HEKATE MASTER POST
Tumblr media
(This is one big info post on Hekate, all sources are linked (hekates name) as well as upg post. I will mark which one is which dw. More will be added to the upg and info list and if you have any other suggestions on what I can put there feel free to dm me)
I started to worship Hekate immediately once I moved out of my mother house. I wasn't really allowed to practice at her house so with me finally being free I wanted to get all into it, Hekate showed me where to go. I've been under hekates wing for about a year now and I've learned so much from her and she's opened so many doors! I really hope this post does the same for future Hekate worshippers!!
WHO IS HEKATE?
Hekate is a goddess of Greek mythology. She is the goddess of witchcraft, necromancy, liminal spaces, doorways, crossroads, good and evil. She is associated with the moon, liminal spaces, crossroads, keys, doorways, creatures of the night, dogs, bloodhounds, the night, darkness.
She is the daughter of Perses and Asteria, making her the granddaughter of the Titans Phoebe and Coeus. Euripides, on the other hand, mentions her mother is Leto. Other writers claim her as the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, Aristaion or Night. The goddess was frequently associated with Demeter and even assimilated to her in some cults. It is known that Zeus favored Hekate and gifted her land, sea, and sky, making her the goddess of boundaries.
HEKATES ROLE
Hekate became a household and protective goddess in the 5th century BC. She had cults closely tied to Persephone and Demeter. Rituals done for specificly her were the supper of Hekate: offerings given at crossroads as a sort of libation. The offerer would give offerings of illuminated cakes, meat, sacrifices of puppies, garlic, eggs, water, and frankincense. After the offering was given the offerer will walk away from the crossroads and not look back, as it was said if you looked back spirits would follow you home.
As a house hold goddess, she was given shrines or altars in doorways, it was said that this kept unwanted guest and spirits away. She was also given altars near the hearth of the home as protection.
UPG
Hekate shows herself as a tall hooded figure with chains around her body. She takes her work very seriously and expects her followers to as well.
Some workings that she's helped me with are:
- road opener spells
- spell workings in general
- baneful wards
- lunar magic
Some offerings that I like to give:
- black things (nail polish, necklaces)
- eggs
- wine
- olive oil
- frankincense
- water
UPG/INFO POSTS

- subtle offerings to Hekate (UPG post)

May I humbly ask for some wheat (Themis and/or Rhea headcanons), mi'lord?
okie so i've already done a lot of Themis and Rhea hc's, but not too many of the two of them together, so here we go:
of Gaia's daughters, first came Theia, then Rhea, then Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, and Tethys.
as the first-born daughter, i think Theia would always act a lot older than she really was, and she's a bit bossy too, so when Rhea was born, i think she was a little mischievous, and quite a trouble-maker (this ties into why she got along with Kronos so well hee hee but i'm not here to talk about him so we'll move on) to counter Theia's goody-two-shoesness.
Themis, the third-born, is the titan of justice which is pretty interesting because that suggests she's quite moral and law-abiding, so that could suggest a little friction between Themis and Rhea as kids.
i can imagine Rhea and Themis butting heads a lot-- Rhea flicking food at Themis, Themis being stubborn and unwilling to let things go, so she flicks food back at Rhea, and Rhea flicks it back but misses Themis and hits Hyperion instead, who throws bread at Coeus who cries, and then Crius is shouting and Theia is rolling her eyes and Iapetus is gleefully throwing plates at the wall, and Oceanus is yelling at everybody to shut up and behave, there's food everywhere and it's a mess.
BUT. Rhea's not evil, and Themis isn't always a spoilsport. i think the thing that Rhea and Themis truly have in common is their fighting prowess.
i like the idea of Theia, being the titan of 'brilliance' (i.e., light), and Mnemosyne being the titan of the Arts (effectively), Phoebe with her prophecies, and Tethys with the rivers, etc., i think Themis and Rhea are the only two titanides with that fiery spirit that makes them actively want to fight. idk if i'm phrasing that in a way that makes sense, but i mean, they don't back down from a fight.
in terms of fight or flight instinct, theirs is to fight.
so, i think Themis and Rhea get along best when they're sparring, or hunting.
especially in the lead-up to their attack against Ouranos, i hc that Themis and Rhea stay up late hours, sometimes never even going to bed because they're out in the fields, clashing their swords and spears.
i consider the titans as having become 'full adults' at the point when they've defeated Ouranos. in a sense, when Kronos becomes King, that is the end of their childhood. their innocence. they are fully mature then; physically and mentally.
and i think, as adults, Themis and Rhea become much closer than they were in childhood. the trauma of war and Ouranos' terror unites them.
Themis also becoming an advisor in Kronos' palace means that Rhea and Themis see each other a lot more compared to Hyperion, Theia, Phoebe, Coeus, Oceanus, and Tethys who live the furthest away from Kronos' palace (Kronos' brothers become kings in the corners of the world... so does Iapetus, but Iapetus and Kronos are close, so Iapetus appears more often the other brothers).
of course, Themis and Rhea could not have been too close since no one really knows what Rhea suffers at Kronos' hands until the titanomachy is literally on their doorstep, but i still think Themis and Rhea do get along well in that immediate post-war peace period.

Could you answer 7 13 and/or 25 for Artemis? ^_^
7. What flaws does your character have? Do they give anyone any reason to dislike them? Artemis has a bad habit of saying what they are thinking out loud without realizing, which leads to them abruptly saying things to others that could be misconstrued as them being purposefully rude. Most of the Jellicles know this about them, but younger cats or newer members of the tribe are often caught off guard by their (unintentional) brutal honesty.
They also hate other cats worrying about them, and they especially do not like worrying the cats closest to them when it comes to issues regarding themselves. Because of this, they will insist until they are blue in the face that they are fine with the cats closest to them despite something clearly being wrong with them.
13. What was their childhood like? Their childhood was fairly uneventful, and honestly they do not remember much from their time as a kitten. Artemis spent their free time out in the clearing quietly reading or being around their father when he would visit with the older cats.  They are the only kitten to their father Coeus, who was already much older than most Jellicles are when they have kittens, and most of their childhood was spent under his wing to prepare for when they would take over his position as the tribe historian and archiver. A position they took over as an older kitten when Coeus was picked as the Jellicle Choice one faithful Jellicle Ball. Their lack of having any sort of kitten fun during their own childhood is why they are so adamant that their own kittens get out and make friends and play as kittens should.
25. What is their ‘outlet’? How do they express themselves? Artemis’ outlet is writing, specifically creative writing. Their role in the tribe requires them to write and read a lot, but taking time to write stories of their own creation and fiction rather than documenting the real life of the tribe is how they keep themselves motivated to continue working every day. They love writing stories to read to their own kittens as well as the other kittens in the tribe, and are quite versed in coming up with stories that amaze and wonder kittens. They have a stash of works that are more catered toward an older audience as well, but they keep these stories hidden away as they are much more private.

on state of narrative in D2
okay listen usually I do not post opinions here and when posting on twitter I try to remain brief and calm, but right now I’m delusional and a little enraged and I’ve been pondering these emotions long enough to put them into perspective and form some words.
Lightfall seems to be unnecessary. Neomuna seems to be unnecessary. there are leakers, however unreliable they are, on twitter and reddit claiming that LF is a filler DLC shoved in-between narrative bits of the Witch Queen and the Final Shape. from where I stand their theories are solid, their claims are checking out: Strand looks like something that belongs with the Queen of Lies, the Lucent Brood and the whole TWQ aesthetic; new destination is lacking, both map and new characters feel empty and underdeveloped; new armor and armaments are the old ones actually, just reskinned. a whole expansion being shoehorned into the schedule for whatever reasons — to give studio a bit more time to work on an Actual тм finale or because of profits — just serves a proof that subscription model kills the coherent narrative, that constant updates scheduling fresh content at a certain date, promising people new deep insights and fun, previously unexplored gameplay are incompatible with healthy work environment and high quality of the content being released. there is just not enough time.
on the second hand, lots of people are praising TWQ for its plot and character development, for the subtle ways the story engages with the gameplay, for the finally well structured and solid basics of the lore being introduced clearly for once. though I do have a bone to pick with those who consider the only good narrative the one that states itself in simple terms (because oversimplification tends to kill nuance and convert otherwise good plot points into bland “marvel-esque” tales), I do not consider this the main issue. for me the main issue with TWQ is actually the one that is present in LF, the one TWQ establishes for LF — it is the main antagonist. the Witness in his current iteration is somewhat unnecessary.
Destiny’s core writing is heavily influenced by the man behind it. Seth Dickinson wrote the backbone of the world we know as Destiny universe, his ideas permeate the worldbuilding and some of them are easy to spot in his other works. Sekhmet Hunts The Dying Gnosis: A Computation is one of such works, and it deals mostly with the same existential concepts Destiny does: with life and death and the war between them.
there are three main characters in “Sekhmet”: Sekhmet, the primordial essence of death and instinct and simplicity (you can call her the Winnower); her brother Seth, who is a being of conscience and curiosity and also complexity and life (yes, he thoroughly remind me of the Gardener); finally, there is Coeus — a transhuman entity that pleads Sekhmet to end her war on all things because zir people are so close to discovering a secret, third option of existing (“a way between [Sekhmet and Seth], a melding of [their] strengths”). Coeus is described as “a slender sinuous person, black as carbon fiber” with “eyes of jet, with gleaming cuttlefish pupils that promise some acuity nearly divine”, ze also tells Sekhmet that “[ze] was made in hate of [her] <…> [ze] was made to spite [her] blindness. at the end of history, the end of gods, when [zir people] tried to go forward” — so it’s only natural to see some inspiration Bungie drew for the Witness from that character.
the story of “Sekhmet” is heavily based on the mythos of Ancient Egypt, therefore is quite straightforward: in a space before times Sekhmet hunts her brother Seth, she wants to kill him because he is weak, because it is the nature of Sekhmet to wage war of the stronger against weaker one. Seth only wants to live and explore Thought and Creation and Mind, but because the two of them share an intricate bond of existing within each other, Seth’s creation is always doomed with Sekhmet’s viral rule of strength. Sekhmet traverses the timeline and meets shadows of people, planted there by Seth to instill a curiosity in her, to challenge the simplicity of her nature with nuance — such is the battle between them. at some point Sekhmet meets Coeus who tells her about a civilization ze came from and zir struggle to forge a path between gods. after a short fight Sekhmet devours Coeus (for ze was weak) and continues on her path, finally reaching her brother at the end of times. there Seth berates her for ruthlessness and blindness, but he already lost and so he has to go — Sekhmet kills him and in devouring his flesh learns all the things he used to know, thus realizing they are two parts of the same process (Coeus calls them “algorithms”) and cannot be separated. in the epilogue Sekhmet diminishes into a weaker version of herself, giving way to the rule of her brother, but she also talks to Coeus and asks ze if zir people have found the way to exist beyond the algorithms of divine war, weakness and strength. Coeus tells her that such way has not yet been found, thus leaving the main question of possibility of “a secret, third option” open.
it is obviously unwise to consider Dickinson’s short story a summary to 10 years of carefully crafted sci-fi saga written by dozens of authors, but it is also evident that core concepts were introduced and then developed in touch with particular author’s mindset — the one that previously borned “Sekhmet” and drew heavily upon it. and because of the different scale of media to which those concepts were introduced, Destiny suffers with continuity. it is one thing to read an intimate story about personifications of existential constants and a whole other thing to introduce roughly the same story in an interactive universe scheduled for 10 years of uptime and bound by industrial standards. industry demands that there should be a villain — something physical, manifested — to fight it face to face, to simplify the narrative into clearly understandable fractions, some friendly, some hostile, and here the beauty of Dickinson’s metaphor fades away, shaping philosophical concepts into enemy races.
and while this is sad, this is also understandable. a conscious choice to divulge from already established worldbuilding on the other hand is not. a few days passed since the LF release and I still cannot understand what brought Bungie to a genius idea of introducing Neptune as a whole new destination, previously unmentioned but holding an insane significance for the core narrative. there is already a destination in Destiny that’s well established, well mentioned and is of utmost importance for the characters leading the story: I’m talking about Distributary, the world within a black hole where the stronghold of Awoken civilization remains. let’s check out the boxes:
Distributary is encased within a singularity which allows for time skipping that is necessary to introduce high tech society hidden from the devastation that permeated Sol for eons;
Distributary is a place of birth for one of the playable races, the one that has been under siege since Forsaken but apparently remained a peaceful haven, thus making the stakes familiar, clear and high;
Distributary already operates on concepts that Neomuna tries to introduce as fresh: Exodus Indigo is basically Exodus Green, huge Cloud Striders are the same as Sjur Eido and other genetically altered folk that came from the Yang Liwei, the CloudArk (while being somewhat derivative from SOMA ending) is also suspiciously well described as an Awoken decision to let the civilians on Exodus Green remain dormant until the civilization is well established and can provide — the only difference between the two is that Distributary is already there, with its stories well written and introduced, waiting to be explored, while Neomuna is an empty space that strives to fill itself in record timing, and fails at it;
most importantly, players already fought for Distributary during Forsaken, making the recent Darkness offensive on it a personal deal of seeing your own hard work demolished — once again, clear stakes, personal interest, direct ties between characters players already know and a new setting, that had been teased, but never shown. hell, even the novelty can be explained and expressed through characters of Mara or Crow, struggling with their memory (or loss of it) and the way time changed the place they used to know.
it is also worth noting that when dealing with complex narratives over a long period of time you have to utilize already established characters, concepts and destinations rather than introduce new ones with every other bit of the story. obviously you have to include and establish some fresh plot points over the time being, but it’s a general rule of thumb NOT to start anew with every few pages. and this is where previously mentioned seasonal model tends to work against the writers: the model dictates to start anew and industry demands a villain.

Character Intro: Leto (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- Momma by Artemis & Apollo
Lil' by Poseidon
Modest Dearest by Aphrodite
Age- 30 (immortal)
Location- Delos, Olympius
Personality- Leto is warm, kind, and caring- bursting with maternal energy. Above all else, family comes first. Fierce and determined, she's quite fond of her children. She’s currently single.
As the Titaness of demurity & motherhood, her powers/abilities include having an innate sense of people's emotional auras, limited mystiokinesis (not to the extent of Asteria), inducing a calming effect in others, shapeshifting into/communicating with her sacred animals, vitakinesis (healing), fertility manipulation, and inducing phantom pregnancy in her opponents.
She lives in a large colonial style home in Delos. Leto is an official foster parent- she has fostered several hundred children. She's also a licensed midwife! She's currently fostering an eleven year old cyclops- a boy named Elias.
Leto has a great foundation of family- a close relationship with her parents Phoebe (Titaness of prophecy, the moon, radiant intellect, & mystery) and Coeus (Titan god of foresight, intellect, & knowledge).
As a mom, she doesn't play favorites with her children. She loves Artemis (goddess of the hunt & moon) and Apollo (god of the sun, music, poetry, healing, medicine, archery, plague, light, & knowledge) equally and wholeheartedly. Leto sometimes joins them on hunting expeditions and working with them on their archery, poetry, & songwriting. She loves cooking for them- baked mac n' cheese (with bacon added) and smothered pork chops for her daughter and garlic mashed potatoes & lemon chicken orzo soup for her son.
Leto does have an older brother Lelantos (Lantos) (Titan god of air, the unseen, & hunting); though the two of them haven't been close in centuries as well as a niece named Aura (goddess of the breeze) who she tries to be there for & has been in contact with.
She has a few tattoos- her children's symbols (a sun & crescent moon) on the back of each shoulder blade) and a lily flower on her lower waist.
Even though she doesn't regret her children, Leto does regret her affair with Zeus (god of the sky, thunder, & lightning), their father & king of the Gods. He was a few hundred years into his marriage with Hera (goddess of women & marriage) when they got together. They had a meaningful connection, but she broke things off once Hera became aware. Now, they've discovered a newfound friendship (with no strings attached) in addition to being co-parents.
Leto is pretty fond of Zeus' brother Poseidon (god of the sea & earthquakes), who helped her while she went through a long painful labor, trying to find a place to give birth after Hera cursed her.
Leto's tried on many occasions to make amends with Hera, to no avail. She knows it's highly unlikely that they'll be friends, but she's still hopeful that they can one day peacefully coexist, as mothers with children who are also siblings.
Her go-to drink is apricot infused lemonade. She also enjoys orange juice, coconut water, white wine, martinis, bellinis mimosas, iced tea, and champagne. Her usual at The Roasted Bean is a medium chai latte.
Her go-to desserts to make are peach cobbler & bougatsa. She also likes the banana cream pie from Hollyhock’s Bakery.
Her all-time favorite meal is baked mac n' cheese, grilled chicken, fried green tomatoes, along with mediterranean tuna salad.
Leto is really good friends with Asteria (Titaness of falling stars, astrology, magic, necromancy, & nocturnal oracles and prophecies), Elpis (goddess of hope), Hestia (goddess of the hearth), Demeter (goddess of the harvest & agriculture), Theia (Titaness of sight & heavenly light), Pathos (god of emotion), Záchari (god of confectionery), Epione (goddess of soothing pain), Zeuxo (goddess of marriage), Aethra (an oceanic nymph), Mnemosyne (Titaness of memory & language), Hesychia (goddess of quiet, stillness, rest, & silence), Sophrosyne (goddess of moderation, temperance, & restraint), Eudaimonia (goddess of happiness), Hesperis (goddess of the evening & sunset), Peitharchia (goddess of obedience & discipline), Philotes (goddess of sex, friendship, & affection), Apheleia (goddess of simplicity), Eunostos (goddess of the flour mill), Soteria (goddess of safety), Themis (Titaness of justice), Pistis (goddess of trust, reliability, & good faith), Argía (goddess of holidays), Lyrikós (Titan goddess of voice & song), Promylaia, Thilasmós (goddess of nursing), and Dione. She also has a great rapport with the island's namesake goddess Delos (one of The Nesoi).
Leto used to be real good friends with Niobe of Thebes before they had a falling out.
Leto still believes in love and hopes to find a great guy. With her son's help, she has made an online dating profile.
She has several businesses- in addition to being a licensed midwife! In Delos, she operates a day care center, has a few boutiques of maternity clothes (Pea & Pod), a clothing line for babies and children (solis et. luna), as well as a line of baby products called Koiogenês. She also does interior design for children’s rooms & nurseries.
Leto also models for/endorses Euryphaessa as well as Glory's Crown (she swears by the vanilla almond leave-in spray & the green tea hair mask). Leto is also a frequent writer of Hearthside magazine. She’s also a photographer- mainly doing portraits of women, family, and children.
In her free time, she enjoys having a girl's night out with her best girlfriends, cooking, sunbathing, reading, gardening, cloud surfing, pilates, baking, knitting, and sewing (she has been a part of The Moirai's sewing circle). She's even taken on learning the art of magic & spells through Asteria!
"A mother's arms are more comforting than anyone else's."

The Magnus Archives: ALIEN AU (Part 1)
So in short I had come up with an AU where the cast of TMA characters are set in the universe of ALIEN. They’re both my FAVORITE pieces of horror media I’ve consumed and so my brain figured- WHY NOT? So I have 13 pages and scenes in my brain that would take place in this AU. If this or the following posts that I’ll make inspire anyone I would LOVE to see what you come up with! In short this story has a mostly good ending.
Here’s a list of the things that ARE and AREN’T in this universe.
- 14 Fears aren’t in this world. It’s fully immersed in the universe of the movie ALIEN/ALIENS. - The xenomorphs however have more powers- they can shape shift into anyone they ‘kill’. So if the alien hatches from the host but somehow the host survives then that creature can pretend to be that person. If they kill someone they can pretend to be them.  They still however take the main biological forms of the hosts they came from in regular form. - Queens are born when there is no other queen in near vicinity detected by the unhatched egg.  - The hatching of an egg takes a lot longer after implantation rather than a few hours like the original movie.  - The aliens acidic blood is still STRONG but not nearly as much. I nerfed that to a slower burn- if left on the surface for more than a few minutes it can still be JUST AS BAD as the movies version. - Cyborgs are a thing in this world- who is and isn’t a cyborg is up in the air- however you’ll find out if you follow the posts. - The aliens are weak to extreme heat and extreme cold. The younger they are the more vulnerable to both. Fire extinguishers and flamethrowers will be a big weapon in both firepower and as a melee weapons. - The technology is slightly more up to date compared to ALIEN’s 80′s tech, as there are in short video calls that can be held. -Mother (MU-TH-UR 4900) is the ships computer mainframe, and can connect directly to Elias with his acceptance of the transmission. Mother also monitors the crew and their vitals when they are under cyosleep. - They can quit. No bindings to ‘The Eye’ here.
ARTIFACT RETRIEVAL VEHICLE: THE COEUS CREW: SEVEN
Captain and Scrivener (Archivist): Jonathan Sims (Age: 31)
Executive Officer: Sasha James (Age: 35)
Warrant Officer: Georgie Barker  (Age: 29)
  Navigator: Melanie King (Age: 27)
Engineers: Tim Stocker (Age 33) & Martin Blackwood (Age: 27)
Science Officer: Nikola Orsinov (Age: 30)
CARGO: OTHER WORLDLY ARTIFACTS UNDER STUDY COURSE: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MOON BASE: THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES
-Everyone shares the role of being a Scribal (Archival) Assistants to Jon- no exceptions.  -The Magnus Archives is a space station on the Moon orbiting Earth.  -The cargo they carry is found from the ships that collect samples from uninhabited planets as well as statements from those who report to them their findings to investigate.  -The Admiral is the ships designated therapy cat to help the crew cope with isolation brought on by Georgie. -Elias Bouchard is the head of The Magnus Archives.
STORYLINE:
The story starts after they’ve collected the last of the artifacts required on the list to retrieve. They’ve been in cryosleep for over 6 months and only need 3 more months of it till they’d arrive to their destination. Everyone wakes up on their own time, Georgie first, along with Melanie and Martin. Followed by Tim, Sasha, Jon, and Nikola, they gather at the dining table of the living quarters. Martin makes everyone their preferred meals, seemingly the most nervous. This has been Martins first time aboard THE COEUS, and his banter with Sasha and Tim prove while not the best at his job there, he makes a mean meal out of the ‘rubbish space food’ provided. Melanie comes back after taking a look at their current location frowning, letting the others know they aren’t even close to Earth yet- not even in their solar system anymore. In surprise they turn to Jon, who himself has only been Captain on ship for only just before this crew was assigned to him. He gets up to check out whats going on, many of the others follow him, much to his disgruntlement as they basically fill the small room. Mother has intercepted a transmission of unknown origins and under contract of their jobs they must check it out. Curious to know more about their new course Jon calls Elias, who informs them it will be a 2 week set back on their schedules course. Jons not exactly excited about this but Tim’s quite happy to be informed it does give them quite a large bonus since it does seem confirmed of unknown (non-human) origins.
Once they arrive to their destination, Melanie sets the ship into motion for landing. She reads off all planet signs to the crew on. It’s a nearly isolated dwarf planet of 600 kilometers in diameter (372.823 miles). The surface on landing will be 23 degrees celsius- much warmer than expected but it does seem to be orbiting a sun fairly closely. They prepare for landing and Martin and Tim are set to get the ship in position. Martin and Tim talk together as they prep and make sure the landing legs will be fine against the surface of the planet. While they do so Sasha pops in announcing she gets to go with Jon and Melanie to investigate the source of the spooky transmission on foot. Meaning also she gets a bigger cut in the bonus than them. Tim and Sasha razz at each other but stop when sparks are spat in Martins face for wiring something wrong. He curses and Sasha comes over to help see what's wrong, pulling on gloves. She laughs a bit and gently teases him to choose a different degree to lie about next time he wants a new job as she fixes the wiring for him. Martin shushes her, claiming he didn’t expect them not to do background checks, nor did he expect to be given a position on one of the biggest damned cargo retrieval ships known. While he worked originally as a simple warehouse organizer at The Magnus Archives sister base on earth he had needed cash to help support himself after his Mother had moved out. Tim wraps an arm around Martin, claiming he’ll shield Martin from Jons prying eyes if anything goes wrong on this detour. They laugh a bit before the radio goes off from Jons office room. He’s complaining about the lights not turning on in there and would be thrilled if someone did their job correctly when fixing it before he gets back on the ship. Tim radios him that they’re on it before they tease Martin more on his obvious crush on Jon before Sasha is then called up to suit up.
Georgie is helping the 3 suit up properly, making sure their heart monitors are secure and attached to their neck to get an accurate pulse. Jon seems to be struggling most with the suit up, this unlike the other two, being his first time in a suit outside of the initial training. Sasha after having her camera feed double checked helps Jon out. And while Jon doesn’t say anything about it, it’s obvious Sasha should’ve gotten the job as Captain. Melanie the entire time rattling on about how excited she is to document her findings of a foreign transmission.
They land with ease, nothing going wrong as the planet, while rocky with a constant rain, is also somewhat flat. They make their way to the source of the transmission. Tim and the others are now watching from the ship- cameras live feed and audio coming to them as Georgie talks with Melanie about all the kind of things they could find on the ship to study. Nikola reminds everyone that without the items and everyone following the procedures for quarantine, no one is touching the items that may be brought back. The conversation dies out into aww when they see the space ship the signal is coming from appear on camera. Melanie is excited as Sasha and Jon start to look for a way in. Jon reminds them to stay close to him at all times as they enter the ship- its obvious he’d rather none of them go in here due to how degraded the place looks. Everything seems to have been heavily melted in random patches, but the ship itself seems to be made of a biological element of some sort- comparing it to a ribcage almost as they walk through it.
As they traverse the ship they stumble across multiple dead alien bodies. They aren’t fresh but they also don’t look years old. Melanie goes to take a closer look at them but Jon quickly pulls her back from them, yelling about how obviously unsafe it is as well as the fact that she just broke formation rushing off into a different room. They both get into an argument about what should be done with the bodies, and how far their investigations should go. At this point the feed is hardly coming through via camera, but the audio makes it back to the the ship roughly. Sasha goes on without them as she’s getting closer to decode the transmission. it’s a warning of sorts is what she can gather. Looking at the bodies it may have been an illness of some type, each of them dead from some type of acid but she finds one with an open chest- like an explosion. she gets closer to one, that seems to shift out of the corner of her eye. She tries to let the others know but she realizes that they can’t hear her over their arguing, and she’s almost certain she’s lost on the foreign ship. So instead she brings herself closer to the alien body before something crashes behind her and she stumbles back, tripping over something, and screams as she bashes her head on the back of her helmet. She gets up and looks around and sees the shadow of the creature run off and she chases after it.
That got the attention of the others as not only with the scream but Tim tells them her heart rate is spiking drastically. Jon and Melanie cry out for Sasha and she stops after meeting a dead end. She sighs and tells them she’s fine, she just fell and admittedly was just chasing after shadows. About the Titans
So here’s a bit of a misconception that’s going around, that the Titans are not gods and are instead an entirely unrelated species.
Although even in antiquity the Titans were confused for the Giants, a non-godly group that fought the Olympians and lost, the Titans were still seen as gods. They are a subgroup of gods, much like the Primordials and the Olympians.
So here I have collected several instances where Titans are called gods; for no matter what group they belong to, those individuals were seen as divine, were seen as the same with the Olympians who came after them.
Astraeus and Eos
Theogony (Hesiod):
And Eos bore to Astraeus the strong-hearted winds, brightening Zephyrus, and Boreas, headlong in his course, and Notus - the goddess in love slept with the god.
Coeus and Phoebe
Theogony (Hesiod):
And again, Phoebe came to the bed of desired Coeus; and in love the goddess for the god bore and gave birth to cyan-robed Leto,
Cronus
Saturnalia (Lucian):
ΚΡΟΝΟΣ: ...οὐκ αἰδεσθεὶς πολιὸν οὕτω καὶ πρεσβύτην θεόν.
CRONUS: ...and you don’t respect a gray-haired and old god.
Dione and Themis
Homeric Hymn to Apollo:
θεαὶ δ’ ἔσαν ἔνδοθι πᾶσαι ὅσσαι ἄρισται ἔσαν, Διώνη τε Ῥείη τε Ἰχναίη τε Θέμις καὶ ἀγάστονος Ἀμφιτρίτη,
and there were with her [Leto] all the chiefest of the goddesses, Dione and Rhea and Ichnaea and Themis and loud-moaning Amphitrite,
Hecate
Theogony (Hesiod):
οὐδ᾽, ὅτι μουνογενής, ἧσσον θεὰ ἔμμορε τιμῆς,
the goddess doesn’t receive any less honour because she’s only-born,
Helios
Odyssey (Homer):
δεινοῦ γὰρ θεοῦ αἵδε βόες καὶ ἴφια μῆλα, Ἠελίου, ὃς πάντ' ἐφορᾷ καὶ πάντ' ἐπακούει.
for these are the cows and goodly sheep of a dread god, the Sun, who oversees all things and overhears all things.
Hymn to Artemis (Callimachus):
ἐπεὶ θεὸς οὔποτ᾽ ἐκεῖνον ἦλθε παρ᾽ Ἠέλιος καλὸν χορόν,
and never does the Sun god passes by that lovely dance,
The Sun and the Frogs (Aesop fables; Babrius’ version):
Γάμοι μὲν ἦσαν Ἡλίου θέρους ὥρῃ, τὰ ζῷα δ’ ἱλαροὺς ἦγε τῷ θεῷ κώμους.
The Sun’s wedding was to take place at summer, and all the animals happily celebrated for the god.
Phaethon (Euripides):
[Clymene addresses her son Phaethon]
ΚΛΥΜΕΝΗ: μνησθεὶς ὅ μοὶ ποτ’ εἶφ’ ὅτ’ ηὐνάσθη θεὸς.
CLYMENE: Remind him, what the god told me when he slept with me.
Leto
Homeric Hymn to Apollo:
[The island of Delos addresses Leto]
ἀλλ’ εἴ μοι τλαίης γε, θεά, μέγαν ὅρκον ὀμόσσαι,
Yet if you will but dare to swear, goddess, a great oath,
Mnemosyne
Critias (Plato):
καὶ πρὸς οἷς θεοῖς εἶπες τούς τε ἄλλους κλητέον καὶ δὴ καὶ τὰ μάλιστα Μνημοσύνην.
But besides the gods you have mentioned, I would specially invoke Mnemosyne.
Historic Library (Diodorus Sicelus):
Of the Titanesses they say that Mnemosyne discovered the uses of the power of reason, [...] And to this goddess is also attributed the power to call things to memory and to remembrance which men possess,
Prometheus
Prometheus Bound (Aeschylus):
ΠΡΟΜΗΘΕΥΣ: ἴδεσθέ μ’ οἷα πρὸς θεῶν πάσχω θεός.
PROMETHEUS: See what I, a god, suffer from the gods.
Rhea
Homeric Hymn to Apollo:
θεαὶ δ’ ἔσαν ἔνδοθι πᾶσαι ὅσσαι ἄρισται ἔσαν, Διώνη τε Ῥείη τε Ἰχναίη τε Θέμις καὶ ἀγάστονος Ἀμφιτρίτη,
and there were with her [Leto] all the chiefest of the goddesses, Dione and Rhea and Ichnaea and Themis and loud-moaning Amphitrite,
Hymn to Zeus (Callimachus):
εἶπε καὶ ἀντανύσασα θεὴ μέγαν ὑψόθι πῆχυν...
said the goddess and raised her great hand...
Selene
Orphic Hymn to Selene:
Κλῦθι, θεὰ βασίλεια, φαεσφόρε, δῖα Σελήνη,
Listen, goddess queen, light-bringer, divine Moon,
Homeric Hymn to Selene:
Χαῖρε ἄνασσα θεὰ λευκώλενε δῖα Σελήνη
Hail queen goddess white-armed divine Moon
Titans as a whole:
Theogony (Hesiod):
οὐδέ τί μιν Κρονίδης ἐβιήσατο οὐδέ τ᾽ ἀπηύρα, ὅσσ᾽ ἔλαχεν Τιτῆσι μετὰ προτέροισι θεοῖσιν,
The son of Cronus did her [Hecate] no wrong nor took anything away of all that she had been given by the Titans, the former gods.
Now obviously those are not the only examples, there are many out there, but my point is; Titans are gods. So, for example, Mnemosyne is not the “Titan of memory”, she is the “goddess of memory” or the “Titan goddess of memory”. They do not differ, in any meaningful way, from their children the Olympians.

Gaia – The Greek Earth Goddess
Tumblr media
The Earth goddess Gaia, also known as Gaea, was the first deity that came out of Chaos in the beginning of time. In Greek mythology, she is the personification of earth and the mother of all living things, but the story of the giver of life has more to it than just this. Here’s a closer look.
Origins of Gaia
Tumblr media
According to the creation myth, in the beginning there was only Chaos, who was nothingness and void; but then, Gaia was born, and life started to flourish. She was one of the primordial deities, the first gods and goddesses who were born from Chaos, and the presence of the celestial body on earth.
As the giver of life, Gaia was able to create life even without the necessity of sexual intercourse. She alone gave birth to her first three sons: Uranus, the personification of the sky, Pontos, the personification of the sea, and the Ourea, the personification of the mountains. Greek mythology’s creation myth also says that Mother Earth created the plains, the rivers, the lands and is responsible for creating the world as we know it today.
According to some sources, Gaia governed the universe before her sons, the Titans, took control over it. Some myths also say that Gaia was the mother goddess worshipped in Greece before the Hellenes brought in the cult of Zeus.
Gaia is said to be the mother of a series of beings in Greek mythology. Besides Uranus, Pontos, and Ourea, she was also the mother of the Titans and the Erinyes (The Furies). She was also the mother of Oceanus, Coeus, Creius, Hyperion, Iapetus, Theia, Rheia, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Thetys, Cronus, the Cyclopes, Brontes, Steropes, Arges, Cottus, Briareus, and Gyges.
Popular Myths Involving Gaia
As Mother Earth, Gaia is involved in different myths and stories as an antagonist and as the source of life.
Gaia, Uranus, and Cronus
Gaia  was the mother and wife of Uranus, with whom she had the Titans, the Giants, and several other monsters such as the Cyclopes and Typhon, the monster of 100 heads.
Since Uranus hated the Titans, he decided to imprison them in Gaia’s womb causing the goddess great pain and distress. Besides imprisoning the Titans, this prevented Mother Earth from having more children. Furious, Gaia decided to ally with her younger son Cronus, to end Uranus.
Cronus learned that his destiny was to overthrow Uranus as ruler of the universe, so with the help of Gaia he used an iron sickle to castrate Uranus and liberate his siblings. The blood that sprung out of Uranus’ genitals created the Erinyes, the nymphs and Aphrodite. From then onwards, Cronus and the Titans governed the universe. Although Uranus’ reign was done, he continued to exist as the sky god.
Gaia against Cronus
After having helped her son dethrone Uranus, Gaia realized that Cronus’ cruelty was uncontrollable and left his side. Cronus and his sister Rhea were the parents of the 12 Olympian gods, making Gaia the grandmother of Zeus and the other main gods.
Cronus learned from Gaia’s prophecy that he was destined to suffer the same destiny of Uranus; for this, he decided to eat all his children.
Rhea and Gaia managed to trick Kronos into eating a rock instead of eating his younger son, Zeus. The goddess of the earth helped raise Zeus who would later free his siblings from their father’s belly and defeat Cronus in an almighty war to take control of the Olympus.
After having won the war, Zeus imprisoned many of the Titans in the Tartarus, an action which infuriated Gaia and opened the door to a new confrontation between Gaia and the gods.
Gaia against Zeus
Angered by Zeus’ imprisonment of the Titans in the Tartarus, Gaia birthed the Giants and the Typhon, who was known as the deadliest creature in Greek mythology, to overthrow the Olympians, but the gods won both battles and kept reigning over the universe.
In all these stories, Gaia showed her stand against cruelty and was commonly opposed to the ruler of the universe. As we have seen, she opposed her son and husband Uranus, her son Cronus, and her grandson Zeus.
Symbols and Symbolism of Gaia
Tumblr media
As the personification of the earth, Gaia’s symbols included fruit, grain and the earth. Sometimes, she’s depicted with the personification of the seasons, which indicates her position as a fertility and agriculture goddess.
Gaia herself symbolizes all life and fertility, as she’s the original source of all life on earth. She is the very heart and soul of the earth. Today, the name Gaia symbolizes an all-loving mother earth, who is nourishing, nurturing and protecting.
Nowadays, Gaia is also seen as a symbol of feminism and women’s power, since she was a powerful goddess. The idea of Gaia has detached itself from the borders of mythology; she is now considered a cosmic being that represents an intelligent and nurturing cosmic force who oversees the Earth. She continues to be a symbol of the earth and of all life on it.
Gaia in Science
In the 1970s, scientists James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis developed a hypothesis that proposed that there were interactions and self-regulation between the different parts of the earth. This showed how the planet worked as one to preserve its own existence. For instance, the seawater is never too salty for life to exist, and the air is never too toxic.
Since it was considered a mother-like aware system of preservation, the hypothesis was later confirmed and turned into theory. It was named the Gaia hypothesis, after the goddess of Earth.
Gaia’s Significance in the World
As the mother from whom the Earth and all life sprung from, Gaia’s role in Greek mythology is paramount. Without her, there wouldn’t be any Titans or Olympians, so it is safe to say that Greek mythology stands on Gaia’s fertility.
The representations of Gaia in art normally portray a motherly woman symbolizing fertility and life. In pottery and paintings, she is normally seen wearing a green robe and surrounded by her symbols – fruits and grains.
Tumblr media
Millennia Gaia
To many modern pagans, Gaia is one of the most important deities, representing earth itself. Called Gaianism, the belief is a philosophy and an ethical worldview, which focuses on honoring and respecting the earth, respect all life and reduce the negative impact on earth.
Gaia Facts
1- What does Gaia mean?
It means land or earth.
2- Who is Gaia’s husband?
Her husband is Uranus, who is also her son.
3- What type of goddess was Gaia?
She was a primordial deity who came from Chaos.
4- Who are Gaia’s children?
Gaia had numerous children, but perhaps her most famous children are the Titans.
5- How was Gaia born?
Some myths say that she, along with Chaos and Eros, came out of a cosmic egg, like the Orphic Egg. Other myths say that these three beings had existed side by side since time began.
In Brief
First, there was Chaos, and then there was Gaia and life thrived. This primordial deity shows up as one of the foremost figures in Greek mythology. Wherever there was cruelty, Mother Earth stood up for those who needed it. The earth, the sky, the rivers, the seas, and all the traits of this planet that we so much enjoy were created by this fantastic and almighty goddess. Gaia continues to be a symbol of the earth and of our connection to it.

Titans:
Here is the start of my research into looking into titans. Here I have made a mind map/moodboard of stuff that I feel like is related to titans and will be really good to look into for this research:
Tumblr media
What Lives below:
Tumblr media
What lives below is a game which people can go ahead and play on itch.io currently. In the game the player must go against 4 different titan bosses in order to defeat them. The player has to however defeat them while trying to repair there boat as well as only being armed with a harpoon. The player before taking on the beast will be given a hint which should hopefully aid them in defeating the titan. Although the player only has a harpoon as there weapon they can go ahead and change them to be lightning or explosive harpoons which adds more variety to the game play. Here is the trailer video:
youtube
In the video it shows off the beasts you have to face and in all honesty I think that they look amazing. The graphics of the game are amazing and think they are very fitting for the game. The different stages the beasts have which can be seen as they change either there stance of change colour is a really nice touch.I have watched videos of the game being played in my own time and I can say that the game looks quite hard. I've never seen someone die in the game but I can tell you that the game is very difficult Players so minimal damage and have to multitask between damaging the monster, steering the boat and fixing their boat. With there harpoons doing minimal damage, A fight against one of these beasts can take up to 10 minutes. Due to there only being 4 boss’s I think that making the fights long was a smart idea otherwise the game would be really short. This drags out the gameplay and put the player under pressure. This also forces the player to get into a pattern as they have to try and survive longer and can't just kill the beast really quickly. One patten may be circling around the beast if stationary.
Titan Chaser:
Tumblr media
Titan chaser is a game where you play as a man trying to guide the titans back to where they live. During the foggy night you go out in your car and try to find the titans before returning them back to their homes. The game is very simple to play and if more of an experience then an objective driven game.I have seen some videos of this game and think that it is a really nice game. You aren't trying to fight the titans and are more trying to help them. This makes the game less scary and more enjoyable to play for some. In the game you are able to get really up close to the titans without fearing that you will be hurt by them. This allows the player to get a really nice up close look at the titans.
I think that this game being on land instead of in the sea like What lives below is really nice. Players with fears of the ocean can play a game like this in order to enjoy a good titan game. The titans in the game also look really good and I feel like they fit the game really well. Having the fog means no extreme detail is needed on the titans as they cant be seen that well.Here is a video of the game;
youtube
I just think that the atmosphere of the game is really nice. The visuals as wella s the audio makes the game really well done. I think the lighting in the game with the fog is really nice and gives a really mysterious feeling to the game. The player being able to freely explore is also really nice as it doesn't really limit them that much.Maybe at some point I might buy the game and play it for myself but right now I am just going to keep watching videos of the game.
Attack on titan:
Tumblr media
Next I am looking into attack on titan which was originally an anime but also now has 2 games along with it. In the world of attack on titan the people have been living inside 3 walls which are around 50 meters tall. These walls are made in order to keep out the human eating titans which vary in heights from 3 meters tall to almost 15 meters tall. However one day a huge titan comes along almost 60 meters tall, This titan destroys the outside wall and lets in the nearby titans. The citizens have to flee into the inner walls in order to be safe from the titans. Later on in the show it is then announced that some people are able to transform themselves into titans. This includes the main character eren Jaeger. Erin can change from a normal human into an almost 15 meter tall titan at will. I find the titan shifting to be a really good concept and think that it would be a really good game mechanic. Especially if you can go ahead and fight other titans while in your titan mode.
For the people who can't transform themselves into titans they aren't completely useless against the titans. People can join the army and become part of the scout regiment. This is the regiment which goes outside of the walls in order to go and kill the titans. They have managed to discover that titans can be killed when the back of there neck is attacked. The only issue was getting to the titans neck which they solved by creating odm gear.
Tumblr media
In the odm gear there are 2 grappling hooks.Gas cans as extra sword blades. The human can use there grappling hooks to attach to buildings as well as titans. The gas canisters can be activated in order to release air which will propel the human forward at a quick speed. Then they use the swords in order to dagae the back of the titans neck. Here is a video containing a character called Levi using the ODM gear to fight some titans.
youtube
As you can see in the video the gear gives the humans a better way to moe about and lets them move at incredible speeds at times. It does however take a lot of skill to get this good at using the gear and requires a lot of training.
Shadow of the colossus:
Tumblr media
Shadow of the colossus is a game where players are able to go ahead and defeat 16 different colossi which reside in the forbidden lands. With this game being 3rd person I dont think it is as immersive as the other games but I think the 3rd person element helps the player with the fact that this is also somewhat a puzzle game. In the game you can't just go ahead and kill the colossi though random attacks. The player may need to climb colossi in order to attack weak spots. Some also aren't bound to the floor and are able to fly. This means the player may need to use bows and arrows to defeat some of the colossi. In the beginning of the video below it shows the colossi size compared to the player.
youtube
Omegladon:
Tumblr media
Omegladon is a game that came out a while ago. In the game you get to play as the Titan which is going around trying to destroy the city. In the online moade players can be on either the red or green team. If on the green team it is your job to aid the omegladon and protect it from the red team. If you are on the blue team then it is your job to protect the city and try to take down the omegladon before it causes too much damage.Although you have to play the game in third person so itisnt as immersive I still think that the game looks pretty fun and that it would be an enjoyable game to play.
The game has a really nice simplistic art style and is more catered towards younger people than the other games have been. The game did come out in 2012 so is quite an old game to  play. I first discovered this game when nerdcubed played in on his youtube channel.
youtube
The Titans Greek mythology:
In greek mythology the Titans was mainly given to the names of the 12 children of Uranus and Gaia.Which were Oceanus,Crius,Iapetus,Rhea,Mnemosyne,Tethys,Coeus,Hyperion,Theia,Themis,Phoebe and Cronus.
Tumblr media
The greek titans were said to be about 25 feet tall and weighing over 14,000 pounds. These titans were said to be gods of things such as the sun, moon as well as the ocean. In greek mythology it wasn't unheard of to be mates with a sibling which was the case for Coeus who became the husband of his sister Phoebe. They then later went on to have 2 daughters called Leto and Asteria. All information taken from:

@lukewasrightaboutthegods hiii i know u said this ages ago,, i just didn’t have time to answer but i’ve been thinking about this a lot!! tbh i didn’t even realise that Lelantos existed. he’s not mentioned in Hesiod’s Theogony so i assume that he might be a later addition to the Titan family tree? either way, i’ve got some hc’s for you if you want them :D
Lelantos doesn’t really seem to be too popular (not as in he was disliked, but rather, he just seems kinda unknown), so that makes me picture him to be the youngest of Phoebe and Coeus’ children..
now, i don’t believe that Lelantos ended up in Tartarus after the Titanomachy, so i think that he was probably too young to fight.
in any case, i think that Lelantos lives freely during the reign of Zeus :)
Lelantos’ wife is Periboia, a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, and they have a daughter called Aura..
i like the idea that Periboia is just a little bit taller than Lelantos. Lelantos is a short guy for a god, i think!
now, let’s talk about the sad and depressing tale of Aura.
Aura is described by Nonnus in Dionysiaca as “a manlike maid... who knew nothing of Aphrodite”.
i take this to mean that she wasn’t very feminine at all.. i picture her as having very chiselled features, tall, and a little bit more than athletic build..
i also don’t think that Aura ever cared about romance and flings.. i think she was dedicated to hunting and the wilderness.
Lelantos’ name means “to move unseen” or “go unobserved”, and because of this, he was associated with the wind, and also, a hunter’s skill in stalking his prey unseen.
as such, i love the idea of Lelantos being very skilled at hunting, and i think he would take Aura often to go hunting. her love for being in the wilderness was definitely nurtured by Lelantos.
there are lots of different parts to the tale of Aura: the first part is that Aura boasts that Artemis is too feminine to be a virgin huntress, and that Aura is far more suited to the role... in anger, Artemis asks Nemesis to take revenge, and so Nemesis takes revenge by promising Artemis that Aura will lose the thing she values the most; her chasteness.
also, it should be noted, that Artemis originally asks Nemesis to turn Aura into stone, but Nemesis says no because she’s worried that Lelantos will get angry with her.. so it makes me think that although Lelantos wasn’t too much involved with the other gods, i think he must have been fairly strong in his own right, and he wouldn’t have stood up for people hurting his family.
anyways, Eros enters the scene (as he always inevitably does), and enchants Dionysus to be overcome with an unrequited love for Aura. i’m not sure, but i think some people say that Dionysus already loved Aura, and asked Aphrodite to enchant her so that she would return his love (not sure about this part though!).
in any case, the story ends with Aura unwittingly falling asleep, being defiled by Dionysus, and then becoming pregnant with twins, and Artemis then mocking her for it.
but.. perhaps the saddest part of the story is that, when Aura gives birth, she doesn’t call out for Artemis’ aid in childbirth (obviously), but she doesn’t dare call for Eileithyia either, fearing that, since Eileithyia is Dionysus’ half-sister, she will sympathise with Dionysus and curse Aura to have even worse childbirth pangs than otherwise... so she just suffers by herself... >:(((
ultimately, Aura is forced into a relationship that she truly does not want.. and when her children by Dionysus are born (twins!), she tears one up and then throws herself into the sea.
in Nonnus’ Dionysiaca, Zeus actually turns Aura into water once she kills herself, but i like the idea that, as Aura’s mother is an Oceanid herself, the sea, under the command of Oceanus and Tethys, rather than Zeus, lovingly sweeps up her body, and it dissolves into foam, returning to the sea once again...
as for Dionysus... i think that Lelantos would truly hate Dionysus.. as would be expected.. but there’s not really anything he can do against him for fear of inviting punishment from Zeus...
i’m also not sure that Lelantos would have any relationship at all with Aura’s children sired by Dionysus.
all in all, the whole story is just so awful from start to finish. it was wrong of Aura to boast, but the punishment absolutely did not fit the crime....
anyways.. it’s very sad that Lelantos’ only myth is so awful and disgusting.. i really feel bad for him.
i don’t think that Lelantos gets involved a lot in Olympian politics. also, the myth of Aura makes me feel like Lelantos’ relationship with his sister Leto must have taken quite the hit. i mean, how could it not?

Voltron: Next Generation
Brittle Relations: I
Word Count: 2815
The days on the Coeus stretched into a heavy monotonous cycle. The team would wake up and perform daily duties: Liz and Allie would check on Keith, who was recovering, Cake busied himself with meals, Caleb and Kenny worked together in the engine room, and Shiro and Kova reviewed plans and caught up with Curtis on Earth. When the Coeus was attacked, only one or two Lions were dispatched if the threat was more serious. Otherwise, they stayed on board and let the Coeus do all the hard work. After that was done, they would return to normal duties and only saw each other during meals and briefings.
Liz, Cake, and Allie could see the wear and tear on the Shirogane clan, but they said nothing. Cake and Liz worked with Kova and Caleb long enough to know they weren't the types to back down, even if they were tired. It tugged at Allie's heartstrings to see the pair with the dark circles under their eyes, that intensity in their eyes was just...gone. Upon cleaning the bridge, Allie heard a strange noise coming from a vent. On closer inspection, Allie found the bottle the teens used during their game. It felt like a lifetime ago when the biggest worry was Keith piloting the ship. Allie finished her cleaning and ran out of the bridge to find Liz and Cake with the bottle in hand. Together, they spawned an idea.
A few days later, Kova was found on the bridge, typing away at her console. Maybe she was updating the info board. Maybe she was writing fanfiction about a life that wasn't completely screwed up. Maybe she was writing a poem about peaches to make herself feel better since it is her favorite fruit. Whatever it was, the teens didn't care. They saw Kova standing alone, looking more stressed out than she had been the entire trip, so they struck.
"Hey, Cap," Cake said, slowly approaching the older teen. Kova gave Cake a small glance before returning her attention to the console. "Cap, listen, we-"
"I'm busy, Cake." Kova's voice was cold.
"Okay, okay." Cake backed away with hands raised in fake surrender. Allie, who stood at the doorway, rolled her eyes and all but shoved the bottle into Cake's hands while he tried to give it back. Liz turned the corner, deadpanning at the scene with Kenny and Caleb on her heels. With Liz's help, Cake walked back into the bridge exasperated. With a sigh, he puffed up his chest and marched (like, seriously marched) to Kova's console.
"You wanna play a game?" He asked loudly, thrusting the bottle into Kova's imaginary bubble. Allie inched herself into the room next to Cake so she could be in Kova's line of sight. Kova met Cake's eyes then stared at the bottle in his hands, and back again into his eyes with furrowed eyebrows. With every second Kova continued to stare, Cake's heart continued dropping lower into his stomach until he was sure it couldn't go any further. Then Kova smiled. His heart shot back up into his chest as Kova gestured to the floor with her head. The others followed until they sat in a circle in the middle of the floor. Liz and Cake explained the game to Kenny, who nodded along.
Kova was the last person that spun the bottle when they played last time, therefore, it was still Kova's turn. Allie needed to think about her question, so it was either Kenny or Caleb who had to ask. Caleb went ahead, lazily turning his head.
"What's scarier: a weblum or a nine-month-old who is just starting to crawl?" Kova let out a dry laugh, looking around the room. She was wearing her lavender sweater, so when she started rolling up her sleeves, the others looked on.
"Caleb, the answer is so obvious that I'm shocked you even had to ask." Kova rolled her left sleeve up until it was around her elbow. "The answer is obviously-" Kova held up her now bare arm to show off the pink starburst scar on the back of her hand to the middle of her forearm, where the pink faded into Kova's natural tan. "The baby."
"The baby?" The other members of their team asked incredulously.
"What baby did that to you?"
"Wasn't that caused by burns on the Fire ship?"
"It was a human infant, right?" Kova's tiredness seemed to fade as the questions were being asked, replaced by amusement at their shock.
"Yes, it was a human baby, no, it wasn't caused by burns on the Fire ship, and it was Cy."
"Cyrus did that to you?" It was Kenny's turn to look incredulous. Caleb looked pleased with himself as Kova was the one to answer everyone's questions.
"Crawling humans are scarier than you think."
"You weren't scary when you were crawling."
"Then you don't remember what happened to Stephen the Hawk." Kenny stared at Kova absolutely confused until his eyes widened.
"What happened to Stephen the Hawk?" Liz asked, leaning forward so her elbow was perched on her knee and her hand supported her chin.
"Stephen Hawkling had a beautiful life, staying with Kenny since he was about two years old until his unfortunate demise ten years later."
"What happened to the plush, Kova?" Caleb said, staring at the side of her head. She rolled her eyes and continued.
"I accidentally crawled over a cord, toppling a lamp that was turned on, and it burned Stephen's head and back. Ken never let me forget it." Kova stared at Kenny pointedly. To his credit, Kenny looked shocked hearing about Stephen Hawkling's demise again, but he seemed to remember the vaguest details, like how big the hole was.
Allie wrung her fingers as she looked around the circle of friends. "It's my turn, right?" She asked, much too quiet to barely be heard over the hum of the ship. Even so, Cake heard her and nodded. "What's the most sentimental thing you kept from your youth?"
"Wow, okay Allie," Liz said. Cake gave a low whistle and a smile. Kova smiled, too, and straightened up. Her arm went to her back, pulling something out. Tied to the back of Kova's pants, a matching black sheath held a small blade about the size of Kova's lower back. As Kova brought the blade forward, she pulled down her rolled-up sleeve.
"I kept Keith's knife." Kova held the small blade in her open palms. "I never had the courage to get rid of it, and I rarely use it. Besides the family picture and a blanket, I didn't keep much from the Kogane household."
"Does he know you have it?" Liz asked. Kova shook her head, reaching behind her to sheath it. "Kenny's turn." The teens turned their heads to stare at him. Kenny opened his mouth when a beeping went off. Liz and Allie checked their makeshift pagers, seeing an alert for Keith, and excused themselves. Cake stretched his arms out, then stood up to go to the kitchen, since it was almost dinnertime. Caleb asked if he could help, to which Cake nodded his head.
"Well, I need to get back to the engine room," Kenny said, standing up.
"I'll join you." Kova jumped to her feet, dusting herself off. "I don't have anything better to do." Kenny nodded and made his way to the engine room with Kova right behind him. When they got down there, the room felt warmer than before, and the pair got to work on lowering the temperature, not saying a word to each other. Eventually, they figured out the heat was coming from an exhaust vent and it was facing the wrong direction. The two ran diagnostics on the entire ship, and when it came back as clear, they stood facing the other.
Kenny stared at Kova then down to his hands as she redid some cables, organizing them in their compartments. Kova noticed Kenny's mood darkening and finished quickly.
"Hey," She said. "You okay?" Kenny gave a small nod, still staring at his hands. He had turned around to rest his butt on the console panel. Kova found an engine box covering to sit on across from Kenny. "You didn't get to ask me anything while we were in there. What was it?"
"It was nothing," Kenny muttered. He laced his fingers together so they were holding each other.
"Kenny." Kova continued, crossing her arms so they rested comfortably on her thighs.
"Everyone at the Garrison wants to be you." Kenny's voice was firm, making Kova flinch. "It doesn't matter what life. You're the Jax, near-perfect at everything you try, no matter what it is. Engineering, programming, even communications." Kenny looked up at Kova with those blue-gray eyes that sent Kova back. "You're just like him, y' know."
"That's not true."
"Isn't it?" Kenny looked angry. "You're both half-Galra, you're both the perfect soldiers, you're both the best of the best, and-and," Kenny shouted then grew quieter as his sentence trailed off. "And I never saw you guys again. You both left, one way or the other."
"You're just as talented."
"You're just saying that." Kenny looked down. "I've been a Holt my entire life, and I still can't be on your level."
"Just 'cause you think you're not good at tech doesn't mean you're not good at other things!"
"Like what?" Kenny met Kova's eyes. They were flicking back and forth in their socket as Kova searched through her memory for something, anything to make Kenny feel better.
"Remember that spider plant you used to have in your room?"
"It was plastic."
"No, it wasn't." Kova shook her head. "Pidge switched yours out with the one in the living room because yours looked better." Kenny stared at her. "And! And remember that hybrid flower you made?"
"The juniberry hybrids?"
"Yeah! Colleen took them! The Altean soil is the only place they'll grow, so they were grown there."
"You're joking."
"I'm not!" Kova's eyes lit up as she saw Kenny's dark mood disappear. "You can ask Allie about them! She worked in the inner courts!"
"What about me and the inner courts?" Speak of the devil.
"Allie, can you tell Kenny about the juniberry hybrids?" Kova scooted forward so that Allie was in full view. Allie stepped forward, her lips pursed and eyebrows furrowed.
"They're hybrids between Earthen flowers and juniberries. What else can I say?" Kova nodded her head, gesturing to Kenny. "They can only grow on Altea, and because of their rarity, they reside in the Royal Gardens."
"That's only an acre or so, isn't it?" Kenny crossed his arms as Kova looked to a confused Allie and rolled her eyes.
"It was expanded a couple of years ago because the formula was being repeated on so many flowers."
"I love juniholts," Allie remarked. Kenny all but jumped out of his skin at the mention of the playful name he gave one of the hybrid flowers.
"What do they look like?" Kenny demanded, scaring Allie. She looked to Kova for help, to which the older girl put a comforting hand on her back.
"They're about my height, covered in green foliage, and they bloom pretty pink juniberries from bottom to top." Allie described, retreating further into Kova's bubble until she was in between Kova's legs and Kova's hands were messing with the braids on Allie's head.
"That's the hollyhock hybrid." Kenny was astounded. His heart was about to burst out of his chest. "They're seriously called juniholts?" Both girls nodded.
"There's a lot more, but that's my favorite one." Allie and Kenny stood in silence while Kova sat, unbraiding and rebraiding Allie's hair. Kenny had a hand over his mouth as the information sunk in. His hybrids survived. On Altea. He fathered an entirely new species of hybrid flowers because he didn't want to do his programming homework. Like she read his mind, Kova smirked.
"Seems you have Colleen's green thumb." Kova looked up from her work. "Sounds like a pretty good deal to me." She continued to sift through Allie's now curly hair to attempt a new hairstyle on the girl. In the end, Allie wound up with six small braids pinned to the back of her head over the rest of her hair in a modified half-up and half-down. That's when Allie remembered why she went down there, to begin with. Dinner was ready.
The next morning, the teens were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in their places on the bridge for their daily briefing. Keith was still on bed rest but will be fine. The Coeus is approximately two wormhole jumps away from Pidge's location based on current capabilities. Food was beginning to run low, so they would have to land somewhere to harvest food and water. The filters needed cleaning and the Coeus needed minor repairs, too, so they would need to land anyway. The prisoner had given more information about himself and the place he came from. While he described the area he grew up in as 'the colonies', it was enough for Allie to figure out what he meant.
"Allura, this better not be-" Romelle began to say as her face appeared onscreen.
"Can I have access to the Galtean colonies?" Allie immediately asked.
"Allura, unless you-"
"Romelle, what is the status of the Galtean colonies?" Allie looked annoyed and determined. An odd mix. Romelle sighed with exasperation, typing away at something off-screen. Her violet eyes went wide as she searched for something she clearly was not found.
"There is no status on the colonies," Romelle said, standing from her chair to call for guards. "Go to the last known location of the colonies!"
"Romelle!" Allie shouted to get the woman's attention.
"Right!" Romelle sat down in her chair again and typed something up again. On Kova's console, Romelle sent a full folder of information on the colonies. "Do make good use of it. I will alert you if we find them." While Romelle disappeared, the folder and its contents appeared. Allie hurried up the stairs to Kova's console as Kova stepped back. All the documents were labeled and written in Altean, and unfortunately, the teens don't learn languages at the Garrison.
"What was the name of the prisoner?" Allie asked Shiro, who was standing on the floor.
"He said his name was Darrar," Shiro replied, turning to look at the screen. Allie typed the name into a search engine under a subfolder. Fifteen different individuals popped up on the search, only about half of them with pictures because they were grown. Thankfully, Shiro was able to point out the prisoner. However, Darrar was much younger in the picture. Only a teenager since the pictures were time-stamped.
"I didn't even know Galtean colonies existed!" Cake exclaimed, staring at the folder. "You think that Yorak has been recruiting from the colonies?"
"He's half-Galra," Kova said, crossing her arms. "It makes sense he'd go after other half-Galra."
"Stupid question over here." Liz raised her hand as she spoke. "What's a Galtean colony?"
"Galteans are an uncommon hybrid of Galra, the people of Daibazaal, and Alteans, the people of Altea. The colonies, however, are a consolation gift between Daibazaal and Altea to foster peace between the two," Allie explained, showing a map of the colonies' last location. "There were four colony groups. Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Sirius. Darrar is from the Gamma colony."
"The colonies are designed to move and interlock if the need arises. They aren't attached to anything, just themselves." Kova explained even further.
"A moving colony?" Liz looked from Kova and Allie to the map on screen again. "How do you even keep track of it?"
"There are supposed to be satellites constantly supervising them, with monthly updates."
"Supposed to?"
"Darrar has to tell us where the colonies are!" Allie ignored Liz's question. "Yorak is pure evil!"
"I'll try my best, but Allie, I doubt he knows." Shiro sighed, meeting the young girl's eyes. "Kova, what's the closest planet so we can make a landing?" Allie stepped away from the console and returned to her chair as Kova closed the Altean folders and opened a map.
"Senfama is the closest to us," Kova reported, and Shiro nodded his head.
"Set a course for Senfama," Shiro said, climbing that stairs. As he approached the door, he paused and turned to stare at the teens, who seemed more upbeat than they had in weeks. "Are you guys okay?" Shiro asked with a half-smile. The teens looked at each other than at him, just as curious.
"Never better."
"I feel fine."
"I think I'm okay. Am I okay?"
"You're fine, Cake."
"Yeah, we're good." Kova arched an eyebrow. "Are you?" Shiro laughed and walked out the door. The teens stayed on the bridge until it was time for lunch, then prepared themselves for a wormhole jump.
