 I didn’t explicitly say, but this line implies that yes, his scales are growing back. They won’t show up until his skin has completely healed and he has his first shed, and it will take a few sheds after that for things to fully return to normal.

Olivia is a third year at Asagao Academy and is a member of the hidden block club! She's bisexual and is implied to have a crush on Mai. She's obsessed with the Cash Banooka video game series and is nicknamed after it. She's apart of the tract team alongside Ian and her number is 64. Her and Ian have a friendly rivalry when on the field and even race each other off season. She loves to sing and has done some songs with Yungtown. She doesn't have any of her own songs due to her having troubles writing music but has covered various songs, some featured on the asagao radio show. She's a cheerful yet sarcastic girl from Canada who will sometimes say a pun or two. She talks about a different group of friends from back home sometimes that she still keeps in touch with, this includes an unnamed brother who she has a picture of in her room. She's the only one seen on screen besides continue and Hana that knows about Josh being Joshualina, since Lina is her roommate when she doesn't want to stay with continue. She faces agaisnt Jirard in a variety of rhythm games in the tournament.

Olivia Bandicoot (Real name: Olivia Marie Wheeler) is a 29 year old (born 6/17) video game reviewer, cover artist, and let's player. She makes video game reviews and covers on her YouTube channel Olivia Bandicoot and let's plays on her twitch. She's a co- commentator on the protonjon twitch and YouTube channel and on TheRunawayGuys channel. She's the younger sister to Protonjon and wife to Chuggaaconroy. She came out as bisexual in one of her first videos. She's known for wearing an orange jacket in her videos and in person. Her favorite video game series is Crash Bandicoot and she has a huge crush on the character Tawna. She's one of the very few people in existence to actually like Sonic R. After every TRG lp is finished, she does a review on the game. In all of her videos excluding covers she's standing on the right hand side of the screen with empty space to the left. She's a member of the group Hidden Block and is known as a mother to them and the Normalboots group.

Supernatural sides AU headcanons

-Roman gets Virgil his first phone

I'm sure you've probably already answered this but how did you get your comic to really take off? Was it just consistent posting or luck or something else? What would you recommend aspiring online comic writers do?

What made my comic take off was 

1. Having a reliable fanbase of people who already expected Steven Universe art from me. I already had followers on my main blog who knew I drew SU stuff, and they were already there to reblog my SU related posts, which meant the early comics got a lot more mileage than they otherwise would have.

2. Posting every day for the first uhhhhh 2-3 months of the comic? Reliability is a really good way of building interest and trust in your readership. I posted at a breakneck pace that I would not recommend to ANYONE - it kind of destroyed anything I could call a personal life. But I can’t deny that it did help boost my readership. I don’t want to say you need to post daily. In fact, please don’t do that to yourself. But posting more leads to more chances of people discovering you. 

3. Tagging things properly and making sure the comic was easily found by someone who might be interested in it. That means tagging it things like “Steven Universe” and “Steven Universe AU” and “momswap AU” (a word I had to find because I didn’t realize that’s what these types of AUs were called). Basically, advertizing! I tagged the comic as everything under the sun for the first few months. Just in case.

Also, this one is kinda debatable but I’ll mention it anyway:

4. Having a storyline that is easy to understand even when it’s in its baby-stages!

A lot of young and beginning artists/authors I find struggle with one big thing...

MAKING YOUR STORY READABLE! 

This is difficult. I mean, it’s the most difficult thing in writing. 

I still struggle with it. Published authors struggle with it. 

As authors, we already know our own story. BUT knowing a story and writing a story are different. It’s a matter of organization. 

You can’t just dump everything you want on your readers and hope that they’ll be able to sort it out in chronological or relevant order by themselves. Sure, some really dedicated readers will do that, but most WON’T! 

Your writing HAS to be digestible to the average reader!

A lot of really great stories - really great premises - have really really muddled beginnings. They start in the middle of things, instead of the beginning. They introduce too many characters, or give too many details, or dive into a scene before the reader fully knows the relevance of each participating party. 

Sure, these things are all interesting to YOU because you already know WHY they are interesting. But to a first-time reader, they will be meaningless without the basic building blocks of a story to MAKE it interesting. 

Many people have stories with LoTR levels of worldbuilding, history-crafting and character-building. And they try to cram this into the opening paragraphs (or opening scenes) as if that’s what readers want. 

(And yes, that’s what readers want. But like... there’s a time and place for everything.)

But if I have to drudge through 13 pages of Who-The-Fuck-Is-This-Guy and Why-The-Hell-Is-She-Depressed-And-Why-Do-I-Care and What-Is-The-Great-Event-This-Isnt-Interesting-If-Everything-Is-A-Mystery then I’m putting the book down and walking away.

MAKE. READABLE. CONTENT.

A lot of the greatest hooks are simplest. People like understanding stuff. Concepts that can be explained in one sentence are the key. 

“Evil ring needs to go into Lava, but it’s being delivered by a hilariously unqualified crew.”

“Boy realizes he is a wizard, life is good after all”

...

Basically, I didn’t plan my story to be digestible. I ain’t that smart. 

BUT I got lucky in the fact that it WAS digestible. It was simple. 

The premise was - White Diamond Steven exists. White Pearl watches him sleep. They decide to run away together. Funny shenanigans ensue. 

Literally when this comic started, although I already knew the larger, more dramatic and more complicated plot, I decided to forgo it because I really just wanted to make funny comics about White Pearl pulling stacks of cash out of her gem. 

And that kind of humor and storyline is VERY easy to follow, because it’s very simple and to the point. You don’t even need to know anything about SU to enjoy it. 

Boy needs money? Magical forest cryptid friend procures cash by PROBABLY illegal means. Ba dum TSS!

Anyway, the readability of this got me a lot of people commenting things like “I know nothing about Steven Universe but this is hilarious” and I later got people telling me that they were reading my comic and only THEN going back and watching SU for the first time to catch up on relevant background details. That SHOCKED me, to be honest, but I later realized that the readability of the comic was basically my saving grace all along. 

And now I can preach to you about it, which is hilarious, because I didn’t even mean for it to happen, but here we are!

Hey, so I saw you put that Childhood Anxiety post about children being applauded for being mature but you tagged it under child abuse? Is it actually considered child abuse?

I don’t believe everyone would agree with me, but from my perspective, it is absolutely a form of emotional abuse.

The issue with rewarding children for being quiet and passive is that it stunts their emotional and personal growth, and teaches them that being an inconvenience to others is the worst thing a person can be. Of course children need to be taught good social skills and respectfulness towards others (such as the teacher of a class), but currently, it’s done in such a way that children are being taught to take up as little space for themselves as possible. Personal growth is ignored in favor of learning the ability to make themselves pass for decorative wallpaper.

It’s the age-old idea that children should “be seen, not heard.” Adults treat children like their property, like unruly work animals that need to be controlled and contained, instead of like equals who just so happen to need more patience, care and guidance. In current society, childhood is basically one long fight for the right to retain individuality and interest in one’s surroundings, while adults try to trick you into withdrawing from the awesome world you’re born into. Though they’re not aware of it, adults are essentially encouraging the growth of symptoms of serious mental health issues.

Far too many children become stressed, anxious and depressed because of how our school systems function. Even if it’s a socially acceptable form of abuse at this point in time, I personally believe that children’s rights to unconditional love, understanding and positive developmental guidance is a serious issue that needs to change if we want a future with happier, more well-adjusted adults. The fight against institutionalized child abuse has gone on since forever in our society, but if you ask me, it’s far from over yet.

Yoo sketcher! Do you play LoZ? If so, have you played Skyward Sword? What's your opinion on Fi? I ADORE her. I've only watched a recent playthrough of Skyward Sword, but I'm in love with her character and her dances and all that.

I’m afraid I never really got into LoZ, even though I rly adore the art design and the world and everything, the gameplay has always been a challenge for me because I’m used to much snappier controls and less strategy

I started my gaming days with PS2 platform beat-��em-ups, so I’m way impatient and generally prefer slamming buttons over thinking I look up walkthroughs when playing pokémon

the only LoZ game I own for myself is the 3DS version of Majora’s Mask, I simply could not miss out on that vague spookiness, it is right up my alley

I’ve never finished it, but I’ve actually been meaning to get back to it, I should do that
