2016 Fit Con and setting to break the all time raw squat record for the 275 class wearing just sleeves. The plan was to #squat 855 on my second attempt. An accident in warm ups injured me and I was never the same. I actually bombed my first meet ever! Now sometimes just walking is painful just 5 years later. Life happens. So what do you do then? Work with what you have. Use what you can. Squatting heavy use to be my happy place. Now #yoga and walks in the sunshine or #hiking are exactly what I need at this point in my life. Being the best you can be isn't always about the destination/goal. It can be just using the tools you have with integrity, passion and #Thanksgiving. God bless and have a peaceful weekend! I have been a #strengthcoach for over 25 years. I have written for magazines, set records, worked for top supplement companies, and been “the guy” in the industry. These experiences have allowed me to learn and grow while building my training company, Raw Power Training Systems, and now as #CoachingbyShawnBellon. If you watch while I'm using the bands for my lateral raises, you notice that I'm changing position, turning my body, moving my hand and increasing/decreasing the tension of the band just to find how it feels best. This was years ago before that very leg would have a total hip replacement. I'm guessing around 2015 or 2016. The real point of the video is to be innovative with meeting your goals. At that point in time I was finding a lot of shifting so I found unilateral work to be helpful in improving imbalances. Also note the time under tension that I'm utilizing with the movement. I'm trying to work on building muscle so I'm controlling the eccentric and concentric of the lift. Additionally I'm careful not to overextend at the top and cause any extra pressure on the patella.
