We need more Miyuki Kazuya bashing fics. I am still not over how he treated Eijun. And no, being emotionally constipated is not an excuse for him to be an arsehole with Eijun.

Seriously, I will never forgive him for pushing Eijun to his limit and ADMIT that he was wrong but never apologizing for it. Nor will I forgive him for disregarding his promise to Eijun in favor of catching for "ace-sama" also, Furuya too, what's wrong with you? Eijun shouted in front of everyone about how Miyuki had promised to catch for him so why the heck did Furuya just.. Accept Miyuki's help that way?

Don't get me wrong, I am aware pitchers can be selfish and all that but, EIJUN IS ONE OF HIS FIRST FRIENDS, if not HIS FIRST FRIEND, and he just.. Did nothing.

Haruichi too tho, he did nothing during the Yips arc. The only decent people in Seidou are Chris, Kariba and Kanemaru.

Besides, why did nobody say anything about OCHIAI??? That prick insulted Kuramochi, Haruichi AND TOLD EIJUN TO BECOME A SIDEARM PRACTICE PITCHER, which would probably injure Eijun further than he already was! What's up with coach Kataoka too??? Why would you NOT switch out Furuya when he conceded 5 runs during the match against Ichidai??? And then, he put in Eijun who struck out Ichidai's core batters and held them scoreless! Eijun saved their asses again!

Generally, what's wrong with SEIDOU??

& also. just to put this out there. if ochiai has no haters, i'm dead. not saying this just cuz i'm a coach kataoka fan, but i think grooming pitchers into the ace the way he wants to with furuya (aka sacrificing the rest of seido's pitcher relay for one single players' growth) is so. it's so ridiculous to me and just feels so selfish. i'm sick of him hanging around like a devil on your shoulder narrator. & him trying to talk eijun into a southpaw sidearm position? when he already has strong pitches? ok. yeah sure, ok. maybe if someone helped him with his anxiety towards pitching inside and not. yknow. introducing an entire new thing to him he wouldn't be so unreliable.

Uhhhhh. So. I may have been inspired by those fics that made Kasamatsu an ex baseball player. And that one fanart of Kasamatsu and Kise in baseball uniforms in Pinterest, WHICH I CAN'T FIND WHERE IS IT—

Anyway. I love this man. Kasamatsu-senpai best senpai hands down. And my fav captain following Hyuuga.

Which is even funnier considering Hyuuga Junpei has the same VA as Yuuki Tetsuya.

Which is also funny cuz that means Kasamatsu knows 3 Tetsuya's now XD

Idk man. He caught my eye in season 1 and then he's been my fav character since. I love his dynamic with Kise and his team. Kaijo are such weirdos I love them. EVEN THE COACH LMAO. Kasamatsu needs a break :,D

So yeah. I have a fic in the works where Kasamatsu is an ex baseball player and somehow someway his team drags him out of his spiral to play baseball to "practice basketball."

Then shenanigans happen with Kaijo and Seido and now they're being co-coached by Takeuchi and Kataoka, basically incorporating basketball and baseball in their respective sports and vice versa. It makes them unpredictable while also polishing some of their fundamentals.

Realistically, this probs wouldn't work and soccer would've been better for basketball cuz footwork and all but I don't care, I'll make this work.

"You're saying people get drunk at baseball games?" he asked you one night during an evening jog "Yeah, and it won't even be four pm yet and the guy next to you is fucking buzzed. Some get drunk even before they get to the stadium" "Why do people get drunk at games?" "Cause it's a sports game. people get drunk at all kinds of games. probably makes the experience better. He really likes it when you are at his games (you go anyways ‘cause you’re the manager) but he just likes it when you watch him and when you smile at him when he walks into the dugout from your desk where you're scoring the games He gives your hand a little squeeze when he passes you, a quick kiss on your neck after you help him with his catchers gear, or a kiss to your cheek when you help him with his batter helmet

He always wants to know about what nyc was like for you and what baseball was like for you

Sometimes you both go out to the fields after practice in the evenings and you give him pointers on batting (not that he needs it) but you teach him what you've learned from the states

Or in the evenings when the sunset is pretty and the weather is perfect and there's a warm breeze you're on a field and he's practicing his swings and you've got your legs up on the fence with your back on the grass with this playlist playing in the background (pink & white ESPECIALLY GODDD)

He's probably more quality time based but add quality time and mix it with making something together to swap for a gift giving aspect and it's perfect

Take him to a make and paint your own pottery studio and I think he'll love it a lot

You're both sitting at a table together while you focus on a rectangular box (for him to keep the new MLB cards you'll be gifting him for his birthday) and he's sitting across from you, expertly shaping a bowl

He's oddly good at this (he watched videos on it after you brought it up)

In the end, he got a navy blue box with baseballs painted on it and you got a pink bowl with strawberries and little while flowers scattered around on it (I made a bowl like this today!!)

This one is kinda broad but let's say on off-season, students have their break and you take him to nyc (this happened in character ai last year erm...I HAVEN'T TOUCHED THE APP IN MONTHSSS)

I think he'd like the city though (probably SoHo)

And you guys go to central park and watch the little league games and he's got this super stupid grin on his face 'cause that used to be him

Take him to a Yankees game and he'll get shock from the sheer volume and you screaming in his ear as you and the other people in the stands dance to YMCA dance after the seventh inning during the field refresh

(Make sure you bring him to a Mets game so he knows the Yankees are better)

Your chest is practically puffing with pride as the stadium sings the Star Spangled Banner before the game beings with your Yankees cap over your chest. Nothing is better than patriotism. And Miyuki knows the lyrics cause you've sung it so many times (I have an issue where I'll randomly sing it. When I graduated eighth grade, my homeroom teacher practically drilled it into our heads so it's stuck there forever)

I think he'd appreciate Japan Village in Industry City. A little slice of home in a foreign land. So make sure to take him there

You hit up all the tourist spots with him starting with The Edge (he'd be kinda freaked out by the glass floor section in the center)

"C'mon you'll be fine" you beckoned him over to the small triangle glass section of the huge balcony rising 1,131 feet from the ground "Nuh uh that does NOT look safe" he refused, a few feet away from you "You'll be fine I'll hold your hand. Plus you can take a picture and send it to Kuramochi to boast or whatever. You seriously can't beat this one" "....Fine" he slowly walked over and held your hand as you took a picture of your feet standing on the glass with the view of the city streets 1,131 feet below you

You take him to One World Trade, Empire State, Rockefeller, The MET (he'd like this one), The High Line, Grand Central (which you end up going through anyways to see the Yanks)

Take him to Brooklyn Bridge park in the evening for a picnic or to Roosevelt Island for biking and food trucks

For Godssakes bring him to the Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn while you're hitting up Dumbo and heading up the borough

On his side, I think he'd enjoy introducing you into Japanese culture. He'd bring you to festivals and teach you what to do at shrines

He cooks Japanese food for you so you're able to adjust your palate to it

HE COOKS FOR YOU

If there's a food from home that you're missing and can't get in Japan, he'd find the recipe and cook it for you. Now you can only eat his food cause nothing else tastes as good (he secretly enjoys that)

During break he'll take you around Japan and visit all kinda of places with you during the winter up to the northren parts of Japan or Okinawa during the summer

I think that he enjoys it when you watch him practice baseball LAWRDD

You do the tiktok trend with the lipstick kisses all over his face and he refuses to wash them off until baseball practice begins

AND AND he goes with you to makeup stores and let's you test lip products on his hand

He was lying on bed with headphones in ears, hands placed under his head. The phone with turned on discord was next to his head on the pillow and the screen showed your name with small snowman emoji. A laughing girl with big eyes waved at him from the profile picture. Kuramochi Youichi, stared thoughtfully at the wooden beams of the bed above him, listening to what you, on the other side of the call, had to say to him. There was something in your voice, subtle and soothing as always, that Kuramochi was attracted to from the first time he heard it.

Three years ago you met at a baseball competition in your hometown. At the time, he didn't think this relationship would ever be anything deeper than just friends. He smiled slightly, recalling the fear in your eyes when you inadvertently bumped into him in the hallway where the toilets were located.

Did he really look that scary? Youichi had always been a problem child which he couldn’t and didn’t deny. He didn't really remember his reaction but you said that he looked down at you with murder in his eyes.

He twisted to the side and slid one hand under the pillow yawning slightly. Fortunately for him, Sawamura and Asada still hadn't returned to the room from their evening training.

“Mochi, are you listening to me?”

“Yes, yes. All the time.” He assured wiping with sleeve his eyes in which tears had gathered.

“I bore you...”

“You don't bore me. I'm just a little tired, because the coach today tired us more than usual.” He sighed, trying to revive himself somehow. He didn't want to sound as exhausted as he felt.

“Kataoka-san hasn't changed in these three years," you laughed lightly. There was silence on the other side for a moment. “Will you miss him when you graduate?” your question sounded more like a statement.

He sighed quietly. Only two months remain until the end of their high school days.

“of course I will.” he muttered while cuddling tighter into the pillow trying to imagine that the soft object was actually you.

He missed you.

He missed you so much and evenings like this were probably the worst.

Three years ago he didn't believe in long-distance relationships. He remembered that one of his cousins was engaged to an American. A big love that ended after less than two years, because the feeling between the two disappeared. And distance was to blame. Distance kills relationships, it was his belief until he bumped into you - this cheerful girl from Sapporo, nearly 800km away.

His eyelids were heavy. He tried to force himself to open them and focus on what you were saying, but sleep was stronger. He felt himself drifting off, your voice in his headphones began to slowly dissolve and his body heaved.

“Mochi? Mochi?” You asked, finally tearing your gaze away from your hand. You looked at the phone that lay next to you on the desk. The call wasn’t interrupted for technical reasons. You laughed lightly as you heard quiet snoring in your headphones.

“and I told him that if he wanted to sleep he should just tell me.” You sighed reaching for the phone and ending the call.

You lifted your head and looked at the board hanging above your desk where a calendar sheet was attached. In some boxes were written the matches that Seido will play in the near future. You rose from your chair and crossed out another day with a black marker.

Another day closer to your meeting.

Kataoka Tesshin (Seidou)

First off, you ignore him for a week after he tells you he’s stepping down if the team doesn’t make nationals

He only tells you because you live together and you were bound to find out before he told the team, but he swears you to secrecy

You keep quiet because you don’t want to stress out the team, but the third years enlist your help in training the team so they’ll make nationals

Now, you’re the same year as Miyuki

All previous years of the team treat you like a little sibling, you always watched practice after school

Yuki’s year were the last to regard you as a little sibling, Miyuki’s year regard you as a close peer, and the current and future first years think you’re the best Senpai

And that’s before they find out you’re the coaches kid

Everyone calls you by your first name at your insistence, so it’s not until one of the first years see your name written out that anyone realizes

Also, it’s Furuya who sees your name first because he’s following you when you change your shoes

He doesn’t put it together, I’m sorry he’s almost as dumb as Sawamura, and it’s Kanemaru who puts things together 

Kanemaru: Does anyone know Y/n-senpai’s last name? Furuya: Kataoka. Sawamura: Ha! That’s the same as the general’s name! Kanemaru: … Wait, is Y/n-senpai coach’s kid? … Y/n-senpai!

Anyways, the team loves you and no one respects you

Like, we’re talking Sawamura levels of disrespect from everyone

Not that you care, in fact Kataoka was worried you might have trouble making friends because of him

Friends are not a problem, you basically gain a hundred brothers and a few sisters

Kunitomo Hiroshige (Inashiro)

Everytime someone learns he has a kid they’re shocked

It, makes him less menacing? No, no it doesn’t they take that back

You are the same year as Itsuki

Mei is even more of a menace when he finds out, you’re his new favorite underclassman

He begs you to try and convince coach of things

Masa-san keeps saving you, he encourages you to kick Mei’s ass

You don’t out of consideration for your father’s team and his role as the ace

However it gives you the chance to perfect your icy glare, you and Masa-san end up as Mei’s babysitters

When Masa graduates he jokingly says he’s leaving Mei to you

Itsuki is your bestie, he was the first one to find out the coach was your dad

You don’t visit practice when you’re younger, and Kunitomo is a very private person so only the staff know about you because he’s had to call in sick once or twice or take a day off

And like, one or two students who’ve asked about the picture of you in his office

He’s a good dad, despite what his demeanor might make some people think

Back to Itsuki finding out, he asks you about it during lunch on your first day

It’s your little secret because no one else can fathom the idea, so no one asks

You stop by practice one day with a packed dinner for your dad and everyone tries to stay cool but they’re radiating confusion

Y/n: Dad. Dad! Where do you want me to leave your dinner. Kunitomo: In my office, please. Itsuki: Y/n-(chan/san)! Good evening! Mei: DAD?! Masa: Mei, shut up.

Masa-san also knows because you were really sick once just after he became captain

So Kunitomo felt he had to explain because he wasn’t sure how much time he would need to take off

Todoroki Raizou (Yakushi)

You get adopted

I’m sorry, but Raichi basically got adopted and so did you

You’re a year older than Raichi, so Sanada’s year and your dad maybe tries to set you up

If men are your thing, if not he just wants you two to be friends

Also, I say the teams adopts you but you more adopt the team, you get so many new brothers

You’re the manager, Raichi got infinite baseball playing skills and you got the logistics

The brains and the brawns

You’re especially close with Mishima and Akiba because your dad trained them

Also, it was never a secret Todoroki was your dad

Todoroki: You’re going to take me to nationals! Y/n: Shut up old man. Todoroki: Wha- Y/n, my darling eldest, I would expect this from Raichi but you? Y/n: Well Raichi’s not here, so someone has to keep you in line!

You become an older sibling to all the players, even the third years

It’s just you, your dad, and Raichi so you’re kind of used to taking care of people

You have a part time job, Sanada makes sure you’re taking care of yourself because you don’t seem to share your father’s lax attitude

That’s not to say Todoroki leaves all responsibility to you, for all his shortcomings he does try to be a good dad for you and Raichi

The team loves you, and you may look after them like little brothers but they take that role very seriously

No one messes with their manager

This has set in my box for a while along with several others, but I said I'm going to get back to maintaining this and I will.

Anyway, if you look into sports manga you have a good chance of finding ojisans. While sports manga normally focuses on youths typically an ojisan will be a coach, commentator, or even a legendary athlete.

Eijun Week; Day 2: Prompt: Victory

Sawamura blanks out, the voice of the umpire getting farther away, he can't even hear the cheers from the stands as he just stands there on the mound

He just released his final pitch for a third strike, a changeup. The batter swung his bat but missed

Did they win? Was he able to bring his team to victory? The thought hasn't even been processed properly in his mind. If he were to tell this to any of his teammates, they would surely say it was the usual for the ace pitcher

"What the hell are you just standing there for?" Kuramochi's foot on his back was the one to wake him up from his trance

Sawamura turned around just as the fielders and players from the dugout were running toward the mound, some were smiling widely, some were crying, and some (Zono) were doing both

"We won!" He could hear his teammates cheer around him as it slowly, but surely, dawned on him. They won. They were able to bring home the national title. They were able to make Seidou the champion. They were able to make Coach Kataoka the number-one coach

Sawamura could feel himself tearing up, looks like Zono wouldn't be the only one crying while celebrating

"We won!" He cheered as he finally heard the cheers from the crowd more clearly, the people on the bench were cheering with him, and he swears he could hear his grandfather yelling proudly in the stands

"Sawamura!" He hears Miyuki's voice as he turns to the catcher who has his hands up

Sawamura grins, rubbing the tears from the corner of his eyes away as he also raises his hand, high-fiving the catcher's glove with his own

my current loml is Kataoka Tesshin, and he's a high school baseball coach at an extremely prestigious school known for it's academics and regularly gives scholarships specifically for baseball players. the teams regularly have between 90-100 players. only 40 of them may get game time; 20 for the first string or "main" roster and 20 for the "second" string, or b team.

he's also a japanese literature teacher.

his priorities are elsewhere but i fell in love with him because of how much he loves all of his players. even, and especially, the ones who never get to play in a game but give their 100% anyway.

ace of the diamond makes me so emotional 🥹 the main character roster itself is a little bigger than the size of 2-3 haikyuu teams 🥰

please i feel like every time you mention this show i want to watch it too cuz everyone who talks about it truly is so in love with it

eijun’s raw emotions here are, in a way, very fascinating to me because it’s not often a sports anime has its characters competing for something the way eijun and furuya compete - not to mention kawakami is also in that competitive pool.

circling back to my post about miyuki as captain, he has a lot on his shoulders in a very short time that tests his abilities to not only direct a team, but be a sturdy figure that his members can fall back on to eventually build themselves back up again. kawakami dealing with the stress of their “one more out” loss, eijun coping with the hit-by-pitch to the head on top of his anxiety with pitching inside cuz of raichi’s homer

after the third yrs retirement, even some of the second yrs struggle filling their shoes. coach kataoka himself acknowledges the holes in their batting lineup and without tanba, there’s no ace and no player in shape to be the ace. that pressure on eijun in particular grouped with the competition from furuya and kawakami and his pitching anxiety has to be mentally, physically, emotionally exhausting

hearing “one more out!”, “it’s expected of the first string”, etc as a player from a small town and smaller team like he is, i wish there was someone better than miyuki (better than tetsuya, even) that he could talk to.

tbh, everyone on the team could use a counselor but i don’t imagine a sports anime ever getting that introspective with characters

My other idea is a first meeting with hopefully all the fun exciting beginnings of a friendship and potential romance. Coach Kataoka has volunteered himself and the team to help with the first planting for the new community garden near Seidou. A lot of work has already been done (cleared up the debris and garbage from the lot, figured out layout, built the shed and greenhouse, etc.), but there’s still a lot of work to do finish the raised beds and mix and prep the soil before the seedlings can go in, and that’s where the team comes in. Coach thinks this is a good way to warm them up and let loose a bit before spring training (I’d have to double check on the timing of the training/game schedule though to be sure of when it would be.)

This idea is less fleshed out, probably a one-shot. I just think it would be so much fun to be able to write teammate banter & dirt shenanigans! I also personally love vegetable gardening and it’s the beginning of planting season so it just feels very indulgent hehe. I haven’t fully decided who to center it on yet, but I’ve narrowed it down to Chris, Eijun, or Kuramochi. They all have very different energies, but I’m leaning toward Kuramochi because he’s kind of a dweeb and that’s endearing.

Don’t know how well it fits with his personality, but for you, I’ve conjured up some lines below!

“Watch out for th—!”

He lets go of Eijun and the ground falls out from under his feet, like one of those old old cartoons, he thinks wryly, as he pitches forward into thin air and hangs suspended for what feels like minutes. His hands automatically reach out, trying to grasp anything within reach to keep himself upright. His fingers close around the first thing they touch. He’s dimly aware of a shriek, then he lands flat on his back, something landing on his chest right after and knocking the wind out of him.

Shouts, heavy footsteps, muffled voices. “Everyone take a step back.” He recognizes the deep tenor of the coach’s voice.

Kuramochi cracks opens his eyes, everything’s a haze. It feels like there’s a weight on his chest keeping him from taking anything more than a shallow breath. Something itches his nose, and— The weight lifts (with a groan?), the dots clouding his vision clears, and he gasps, coughing and sputtering as he gulps a lungful of air. He props himself up, about to look around when—

“What the hell was that?!”

He leaps to his feet, spinning around (a bit wobbly still) to confront the person yelling at him. But the words die on his tongue when he sees you. Beside him, Eijun is apologizing profusely, Miyuki is egging you on, but Kuramochi just stands there dumbly while you scold them. (“Seriously? You’re supposed to be here helping prepare the community garden and the two of you are just dicking around instead. Both of you could’ve gotten really hurt! I could’ve gotten really hurt!”)

You stop to brush some of the dirt off your face and overalls.

“Sorry,” he mumbles, so uncharacteristically timid that even Eijun and Miyuki pause their antics.

You glare, not at all intimidated by him or any of the dozen other athletes crowding around you, and maybe that’s what makes his mouth run dry.
