CN: Police violence, murder, anti-Black racism "The intersection of racism and ableism add up to a higher risk of arrest, other forms of physical and mental harm, and even death for Black disabled people when they encounter police."

Cn I ask your top favorite fics that you've written (feel free how much that you want to list)? Why they're special to you? Is there a specific inspiration when you wrote them? Thanks....
Hey anon!!! Thanks for the ask!! Favorite fics...I've written. You've given me too much freedom by asking my why I like them I am so sorry for the wall of text about to hit.
To Veer The Tides
It's a fic for Kuroko no Basuke which is basically just me slapping the character names onto a WILDLY different fantasy setting. It's for Akashi x Furihata. An arranged marriage AU where Akashi is the son of an emperor who went too power hungry and wanted to consolidate 7 mostly independent states(provinces??) into one, but he was defeated by the remaining states and to control Akashi, he is arranged to marry far below his station to Furihata, son of a destroyed noble house which is under the rule of Kagami's state. So it's about Akashi climbing back to power with Furihata initially thinking Akashi is pure evil but he soon realizes that maybe Akashi and his family aren't as evil as the people believe.
I ended up doing so much research, world-building and character expansion. It's more political intrigue than romance, lol. I still love that fic to death, I think I honestly peaked there for world-building, at least. I wrote it immediately after reading and watching Mo Dao Zu Shi and being first introduced to the concept of cultivation as a magic system and really wanted to put all my faves in flowy robes and long hair.
I want to get back to it, but I've discontinued it because I am simply not qualified to right about Dissociative Identity Disorder, systems and alters. Akashi has a terribly stereotypical portrayal of it in canon and I thought maybe I could research enough to write that, but I just, I don't know any systems and I felt like if I can't respect it, I didn't want to do it.
But it's still my favorite in terms of the world and aesthetics I had going on for it.
2. Tell Me Your Story (I'll Tell You Mine)
My current baby. The one I incessantly post about and draw for. Single-handedly over saturating the kyoshi warrior sokka x blue spirit zuko market. It's set in the canon world but I had to do so much research for this one too. I learned a lot, I think, while writing this. Big lesson being never ever write in present tense but if you're 200K+ words into it there is simply no going back RIP.
It started as just a silly romance because I thought it'd be funny to have Sokka and Zuko be completely oblivious to who they like. But as I began plotting and writing, it transformed into me projecting all my issues with colonialism and using the ATLA setting as base to dip a little bit deeper into the themes the show itself brings up, and some issues that it doesn't. Like, how colonialism uses your own culture against you, how it makes you fear who you are, makes you do things you don't want.
I deliberately chose that title because lots of indigenous communities in the world have lost their stories because of colonialism. Oral traditions and tales that are forgotten because people were killed and forced to never repeat them, forced to forget their languages. And that, really got to me. How colonialism slowly strips you of what makes human beings what they are; stories, art, music, dance, etc.
So this fic ended up being about how colonialism steals from you, uses what is yours AGAINST you and how it is important to embrace who you are and fight back.
3. Tell The Neighbours I'm Not Sorry
It's for Jon and Jay from DC Comics and Superfam. I wrote it when I was seeing a lot of biphobia against Jon and racism against Jay. As a bi asian, even if it was towards fictional characters, it was getting to me. People kept talking about how there's a specific way to be bi. Why did Jon never have a crisis about being queer? Why did Jon and Jay move so fast? Is Jay manipulating Jon just to get what he wants? It was all filled with a lot of stereotypes and biases.
Superman comics especially often taken up real world issues and puts it into the story. So I took all my anger and frustration from the biphobia and racism and wrote it into a fic.
It's about how there's no one way to being queer, and about how immigrants and non-white people are immediately classified as some kind of 'other' and 'bad' with zero grounding. It's also a little bit about colonialism on Jay's end. It's so charged with me going "FUCK IT!" and still somehow came out okay as a fic and I think I like that I managed to turn my anger into something productive.
Bonus
4. An Itajun fic I have not published and am still writing
It's my first JJK fic! It's an absolute mess in my drafts right now but I really like it, it's very fun for me. Junpei starts seeing and sensing curses far earlier because of built resentment from his bullies going too far and severely injuring him, his mom finds out and they move to Yuuji's area of Tokyo to get away from the school since they won't do anything about the bullying. Yuuji and Junpei run into each other and meet early at school. So the dynamics are kinda reversed, where Junpei is the one who is into the world of curses first while Yuuji has no clue, but they slowly interact and come together, forming a tight bond.
Junpei trusts no one and is dealing with all this curse nonsense trying to understand what it means. Yuuji is seemingly happy and chipper but he's going through tough times because his grandpa got hospitalized. It's both of them supporting each other and making sure the other isn't alone.

totally understand if you don’t have anything on hand and i’m gonna do some research myself but i was wondering if you have any reading recommendations about anti-psychiatry? really interested in the whole idea but haven’t done a lot of reading about it or anything
hmm i link a few resources & blogs in this ask (link 1), i definitely recommend checking out Mad in America in particular; of course, as a platform for a wide range of psych survivors’ experiences & opinions, i don’t agree with everything presented (including within specific articles i’ll rec), but it’s a great starting place for challenging & developing your own views & learning about our community.
specifically, this article (link 2) is a good starting place on diagnostic violence, especially as it pertains to systemic racism, and this one (link 3) is an amazing example of community knowledges as it pertains to tapering medications without approval of the medical system.
& then i’ll just cite some articles i’ve read, most of which are available online & all of which i’m happy to send pdfs of if you can’t find something & dm me! some of these aren’t directly about Madness & antipsych but are good starting places for unpacking related forms of oppression such as institutionalization.

Filipino* Hetalians are bothered by how vocal people are to criticize the US state but not CN. We only wished for others to be as critical, because Filipino Hetalians have been criticizing the CN state for trespassing — no, literally violating international law that was settled years ago and ineffectively implemented after our former president elected to court the CN state in the name of anti-US imperialism. The coast guard of the CN state rammed the boats of our fisherfolk — one of the, if not the, poorest sectors of the Philippines. It doesn't matter who you are, if you are in their way, they won't hesitate. Why they do this has more to do with capitalism than racism per se (even while racism is ultimately rooted in capitalism).
We're critical because WE DON'T WANT IT TO ESCALATE INTO A CONFLICT THE LIKES OF PALESTINE RIGHT NOW. The White House is literally intervening because the CN state refuses to take accountability. We are forced to invoke a law that most of us did not even exist to protest before. It doesn't help that they have used the military bases they built here as a jumping point for other wars (one example with the keywords: Clark Air Base, Allen Lawrence Pope, 1958 PRRI/Permesta Rebellion). What happens is we end up holding some level of responsibility for something we as a people did not sign up for. Then, we have to pay reparations but our taxes literally get pocketed, so we only further suffer for the sins of capitalist pigs.
But since no children have died yet, I guess it doesn't matter? Our government is debating over the reimplementation of mandatory ROTC for university students. One student was killed years ago for exposing the hazing rituals that have been normalized in the ROTC system. This is the same ROTC that obliges us into military service when the state calls for our specific names, only this time everyone has to go through it, and therefore anyone can be called on. Of course, that is unlikely unless there is war. Now put that next to our West Philippine Sea issue and you see the dots connect.
You would have known that if you had just listened to Filipino Hetalians from the start, instead of scrambling for excuses and copy-pasting racist rhetoric as a clapback to defend your victim complexes.
Nobody asked for you to explain your trauma. Nobody asked because we're completely aware and SYMPATHIZE with that. That's not our problem. That was never our problem. Your trauma is not our oppression. The problem is a neighboring government refuses to acknowledge and intervene in the aggression of its own resources. Nobody said iT's yOuR fAuLt ThEy'Re DoInG tHiS, it's honestly worrisome how people hear things that were never uttered...
But what are we supposed to expect when you have informants everywhere to keep track of any form of disagreement so you're basically a panopticon over the fandom that nobody wanted in the first place? Do Filipino Hetalians have to go into detail now about how we here are under constant surveillance from the Philippine state because any form of vocal disagreement will get us red-tagged and possibly killed as retaliation for offending the egos of those in power?
You demand we respect your trauma while irrationally labeling someone else's trigger as racism? Did you actually believe that would contribute one step closer to a ceasefire? Be honest with yourselves and think it through realistically: Did you actually believe that your online, inflammatory retaliation will contribute a step towards a ceasefire?
The honest and realistic answer is NO, because you wasted energy that could have been put into organizing on the ground. You wouldn’t have to get snarky about how you spend time helping elsewhere because your lack of training in working with fellow organizers with mental health issues indicates your lack of experience. Your lack of experience indicates you have yet to touch real grass and organize beyond huddling your friends into online harassment campaigns.
You don’t get to sprinkle disclaimers of not harassing people while adding #hater tag. You literally gossiped about me in your circle. You cherry pick receipts in your favor. The worst part is I’m not the first person you’ve done this, and I doubt I will be the last one. You only visibly condemn public harassment in order to wash your hands clean of your private harassment.
And I’m not even white, yet you spit inflammatory statements about me as if I was a white racist. Between us, who’s the Westerner to the other?
This is not about racism from white supremacists anymore. This is elitism, and we Filipino Hetalians have too much of that already. It’s elitism because you constantly enforce your intellectual superiority over us like some evangelizing conqueror holding dominion over the poor, unenlightened savages. It’s elitism because being Asian by blood doesn’t change the fact that you’re entitled to privileges not so within the means of non-migrants. Note that I write “by blood” because tying identities to the state is conclusively dehumanizing. Does my being Filipino automatically make me anti-indigenous? Does someone being American by citizenship make them racist freaks, regardless if they are also black/indigenous/Asian/Pacific Islander?
We’re as upset over the racist-motivated attacks of Chinese people because of the racist framing of the CN state as the source of COVID-19. We’re as ashamed of the lingering sinophobia in SEA. At the same time, we here in SEA are in closer geographical proximity to the CN state puts us in a higher vulnerability to exposure to aggressions on a state level. You could have also learned of our genuine opinions if you had just asked. Instead, you assumed for us. We may both be Asians by blood, but what happened to the whole respecting our nuances because Asians aren’t a monolith? Please understand where the nuances lie.
Elitism is also satisfying your freedom to freely speak of your traumas while policing the traumas of other people not shared by you, because the conditions you have grown under have instilled a hostile and ableist perspective for mental health breaks in general. That is the fault of the normalization of capitalism that every one of us must live under. The good news is that it can be dismantled. The bad news is having a petty fight with someone you dislike because they explained why they disagreed with your fandom opinion on the internet is not going to leave a scratch on the foundation of capitalism we mutually want to destroy.
Lastly, elitism is also the combination of residing in Western countries — all the more in the core of all cores of imperialism today that is the United States of America — and having a significantly larger following, and therefore influence, on social media than most non-migrant SEAsians in the Hetalia fandom. You hold a privilege and leverage over other voices; I mean, just look at how much traction the racebending disk horse received. As far as I can speak for my commentary — though I wasn’t the only one — we only wish for acknowledgement of the nuances alongside the impossibility of total depoliticization of nation-state personifications.
You speak of fighting racism, yet you constantly patronize the people from the communities you demand more representation of. It should not be any harder to realize the unappreciated double standards than the history of racism against diaspora communities in white-majority countries. I hate that it happens. We hate that it happens. But the internet is not restricted to the Western experience alone. The internet is not occupied solely by Westerners. Sheesh, guys, I know the US is even colonizing the digital space but don't give them that validation lmao?
And at the end of the day, this bizarre drama was never about the Chinese identity or the anti-Asian racism or the genocide of Palestinians. It was about a neurodivergent SEAsian expressing that her sudden quiet presence on social media is because she needed to recover from an anxiety attack that was preventing her from functioning, which includes platforming her support for Palestinians and other obligations in her every day life with sincere intentions. Understand that you are enforcing an unwanted power dynamic every time you make everything about you, again and again and again and again.
Understand that in creating a false rumor in mocking someone's trigger, you are establishing that the Hetalia fandom is not a safe space for the neurodivergent.
Understand that in creating a false rumor in mocking someone's trigger, you are establishing that the neurodivergent are useless, and therefore have no right to participate, in the fight for the freedom of Palestine.
UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE A VICTIM OF RACISM AS MUCH AS YOU ARE AN ENABLER OF ABLEISM.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THIS: It can be unpacked. Here are some articles on the impact of frequent media exposure to extreme violence. Mental health wellness is as much a part of the peace process.
Media Exposure to Collective Trauma, Mental Health, and Functioning: Does It Matter What You See?
Witnessing images of extreme violence: a psychological study of journalists in the newsroom
Media’s role in broadcasting acute stress following the Boston Marathon bombings
You are free to email the authors to argue about why dedicating time for recovery is morally wrong and a privilege that can never be a right. Don't take it to me or to any other Filipino Hetalian anymore, take it to the specialists in the field. Argue against the foundations of their profession. Shake them to the core, for all we care. Tell them how you think their works supplement racism because you want so desperately to be right about your bad-faith reading. Understand that your stubborn inability to hold others in good faith for once is toxic and destructive.
EDIT (01/09/24): Here are abridged infographics of a webinar addressing mental health and systemic violence, and organized by an advocacy network that works with indigenous communities and environmentalists. To quote them: "mental health must be addressed with collective care that is inseparable from collective action in solidarity with the Palestinian people's national liberation movement." If that still does not humble you, then accept that there are Hetalians — not just the non-migrant Filipinos — who are actually uncomfortable with your constant aggression and you just don't know it because you don't listen when they choose to speak up about it.
Now that that’s all said, take the time to comprehend how our pains now stand as equals in magnitude with respect to our dignities as humans.
*Bluntly, me and my friends and mutuals in the Hetalia fandom who are all non-migrant Filipinos. I don’t want to assume for others not in my circle, but I am extremely tired of all the cop behavior over us. This is not Martial Law.
P.S. Stop using “mainlander” like a slur. Not even as a joke. Stop it before it blows into full-out racism.

Aufruf zum Trans Day of Remembrance | 2022 | Köln Demo am 20.11.22, 16 Uhr, Ottmar-Pohl-Platz, Köln Kalk
(English below)
CN: Transfeindlichkeit, Gewalt, Krieg
Was ist der Trans Day of Remembrance?
Call for Trans Day of Remembrance | 2022 | Köln Demo: 20.11.22, 4 PM, Ottmar-Pohl-Platz, Köln Kalk
CW: Transmisia, Violence, War
What is the Trans Day of Remembrance? TDoR is a day for us to mourn the victims of transmisic violence together. Since 1998 we come together every year and read out the names of those who lost their lives to transmisia. Transmisic violence is particularly dangerous and deadly when it intersects with other forms of violence like racism or classism. Our murdered trans siblings are disproportionally often trans People of Color.
Call for Demo at 20.11.22, 4PM, Ottmar-Pohl-Platz, Köln Kalk
We are filled with Anger and Rage! The situation got even worse over the course of last year. Again and again we are subjected to harassment on the streets and hear about trans people getting beaten up and even murdered. The situation is especially dire in all of the places where wars are being waged. Our thoughts and Solidarity are with all trans people, all dissidents and everyone subjected to patriarchal violence in Kurdistan, Iran, Afghanistan and the Ukraine.
We want to carry our rage against transmisia to the streets together We want to form alliances against transmisic structures like the humiliating and outdated "Transsexuellengesetz", the asylum system, that still does not recognize transmisia as a valid reason to seek asylum or the cops, who do not protect queers of color especially, but poses a danger to life to them.
But we also want to come together to share courage and power with another, because we are not alone and we want to keep fighting for our rights. We want a world without transmisia. It is a long way until we are there, but we are more and we are stronger than ever before! We invite all of you to walk this way with us.

It's potentially even worse cuz CN released a short where Pearl of all characters chastised how humans erased the accomplishments of black historical figures. Suggesting that these real people and the real systemic racism working against them existed in Steven's World.
youtube
“Slavery and colonization isn’t a thing in Steven Universe because the gems prevented it”
Oh so then where are all the Native American groups then? Why do people bother leaving their country to go to the US? “To get a better stable future” nah cuz colonization never happened on Earth so none of its bullshit effects are going to remain here. US wouldn’t be a superpower since it didn’t profit it off of colonization. None of these countries would be superpowers.

The following few thoughts are my justification of my writing choices for the templars in general and Cullen in particular as secondary villains in the first arc of my Revolution!AU. Please be aware of the content notes below.
I want to preface this by saying that fanfic writers have a certain room to decide on how to portray Cullen, especially in AUs. This is a value-neutral statement. I’ve seen some fans of color address the problems he has in canon and giving him actual and meaningful redemption arcs or removing him completely from his canon characterization. Run Home, one of my favorite fan artworks in general, falls into the latter category, completely removing the problematic aspects of him. Such decisions are fair, there is no required way to interpret Cullen.
In DA:O, the canon after which my AU diverges, Cullen is a part of an armed and battle-ready organization that he canonically believes has a divine right to subjate an entire part of the general populace and place them in buildings they are not allowed to leave to keep the rest of the population supposedly safe. You can interpret the circles as cults, and I have certainly unloaded some of my cult trauma onto my Surana, or you may read them as prisons. The political allegory I have imbued into my AU interprets circles as first and foremost prisons, templars as cops, and centers the mage revolution storyline as a way to explore circle abolition as prison and police abolition.
My partner has already done an extremely intricate analysis on why circles can very well be called prisons (and every time I read one of their meta pieces, I fall more in love and awe with them; like, this is such a dedicated and focused analysis of the topic at hand and they write so many of these meta pieces). However, I am aware that circles do not map perfectly onto the modern carceral state. The modern carceral state in the United States stands as  a successor to slavery in the context of specific and structural criminalization of Black and Latin-American communities and the prevalence of prison labour. This isn’t something the allegory formed from canon can easily encompass, and it isn’t my place to fictionalize this intergenerational trauma and systemic violence. What canon does contain is constant unsupported and flimsy arguments for why the templars maybe contain a few bad individuals but are necessary as an institution to protect the general populace from violent groups and individuals. The potential my AU tries to explore within the templars is what is even in canon close to fantasy copaganda. I have chosen to use the templars to explore why arguments in favor the police as an institution are meaningless and simply propaganda to violently upkeep the status quo.
Cullen, especially given how I have come to know him with my Amells and Suranas, does have an extreme aura of a man who is convinced that he holds the right to kill and oppress the inmates of the prison he works for. It is canon that he has thought in detail about and mentally prepared for killing Surana/Amell. Now, given this man that canonically believes his immense power and option to violence is imbued into him by a god, how do you think would he react to that power being suddenly taken from him and him being declared a simple soldier? This is the most obvious point of divergence in my AU: Queen Anora gambles with high stakes when she goes into negotiations with the Sunburst Throne to disband the Fereldan branch of the Templar Order, make the circles self-governed and dissolve the templars into the army of Ferelden to make up for losses in the Blight. She pays for it with her life as the templars rise up when they get wind of their power being challenged. I do not think it is far-fetched that a man like Cullen would turn violent upon the prospect of losing his status, and BioWare desperately wants him to be a military leader, so he leads the Fereldan Templar Uprising of 9:31 in my AU.
I do not think the most pressing question for prison abolition movements is how to deal with crime when cops no longer exist. That cops don’t combat crime, but rather stand as one of the indirect to direct causes of societal violence, isn’t a new idea by far. There are many lived, renewed as well as traditional concepts by Black and Indigenous communities that show that society has no need for cops and states, from neighborhood patrols and community caretaking to community accountability. I establish and try to explore something similar with the reformed Order of Fade Hunters under Velanna’s guidance, something that happens at Imerati’s ascension to the throne but won’t be explored in detail until I get my ass to finish the first half of arc 2. The allegory I am aiming for is also why so much of my AU is concerned with humanizing former circle mages. In the process of police and prison abolition, formerly incarcerated people are no danger to the public, but fanatic ex-cops are a hazard to be reckoned with. That’s my point in villanizing the templars and, in turn, Cullen in TRoT.

Kamino, Cloning and Übermenschfantasies
The Fandom has a pretty unanimous opinion of Kamino as a horrible place. Obviously its horrible. But as how horrible is it actually shown?
Tumblr media
CN slavery, ableism, biopolitics, eugenics, racism, totalitarianism
First, the Kamino scientists specialise in essentially sentient trials and deliver-to-your-door-slavery. It is their business model to make a custom tailored workforce for whoever pays the bills. They have no ethical misgivings about creating and selling slaves. This alone is so inherently evil and makes the Kaminoans on par with the Sith. And this alone should disqualify any positive depiction of them. Yet we see a beautiful Kamino, very little violence of any nature and Nala Se in TBB being somewhat nice to Omega as if that could rehabilitate her character. The cruelty of Kamino is always only implied, making it somewhat comfortable for the audience to engage with the clones as the product of slavery. Which is distressing especially since the actor playing the clones is a Māori man, giving this a racialised edge too.
Second, the clones are perfect. They are the ideal soldiers in body, mind, spirit,... you name it. But the surviving clones of Kamino that get to live - like Rex and Cody - are the survivors of an ableist venting process, meaning the less perfect clones are dead. Therefore not there anymore to be looked at (and fetishised by) the regular Disney audience. The only undesirable clone we ever see is clone 99 who dies shortly afterwards. And the bad batch are variants of the Fett clones, but shown as beautiful and capable (and very problematic), implying that only the useful and appealing "abnormals" deserve to live. This is very much in line with the Kamino philosophy on biopolitics, genetics and usefulness as a determining tool to decide who is allowed to live/shown on screen and who isn't. This shows that the writers of TBB and TCW have internalised much of the inherent ableism and normalised exploitation in our real life societies. They agree at least unconsciously with the Kaminoan line of thinking on biopolitics, genetics and eugenics. And it explains why the writers are so unwilling to depict the evil of the kaminoan society that sees the body as a product to be sold and its creation painstakingly controlled. Just like real-life capitalism and its supportive discriminatory mechanisms.
Lastly, none of this is new. The idea of a "perfect human" aka the aryan Übermensch as a planned and maintained creation by man, is part of a set of megalomaniac ideas of socials-darwinists and white supremacists. And in the end it matters little that the original clone is based on a Māori, since he is only the canvas to whitewash and project whatever fantasies of white power and perfection the creative heads behind the shows have internalised. It is important to deconstruct all of that since we, as the projecting audience, deserve to live and be happy without oppression, without exploiting of our bodies as a resource or having to justify our existence as useful. There is no way to show Kamino and the philosophy it represents as tolerable or the lesser evil, that needs to be endured or can be reformed. And Nala Se is not a redeemable character, she is the Dr. Mengele of the Star Wars universe.
Every cooperation with Kamino is complacency with a most oppressive system. And there is no way to show the clones as something different than survivors who not only survived the clone wars and what followed, but most importantly Kamino as the forge of their painful creation - for no one can escape what is etched with malice into their body.

Note
It’s a little disheartening to me that Horikoshi never seems to touch up on ethic related discrimination in BNHA-Japan. I hope he’s mentioned it somewhere and I missed it. I just don’t understand why it wouldn’t be included because it’d surely keep happening in his world.
Well, anon, as I assume you know if you’re aware enough of the issue to raise it to begin with, the issue of Japanese racism is a fairly charged one in the country (though, really, is there a country where it isn’t?). BNHA is running in what is probably a fairly easy call for Most Mainstream Manga Publication, so I would never really expect to see it engage deeply with the matter, particularly when it’s already got its hands full with things like corrupt systems that consciously mirror Japanese government institutions(1), critiquing citizen complacency, and having quite a lot to say about harmful family and social dynamics as they lead to interpersonal problems or outright antisocial behavior.
That said, none of that has stopped Horikoshi from also dipping his toe into discrimination allegory via the heteromorph discrimination plotline, so why no nods to real-life discrimination?
(Hit the jump for some considerations of this, a possibility or three for characters that might qualify, and some Crash Course History Brief on Okinawa.)
So, I admit that my first thought when I asked myself that question was, “That’s probably because coming up with a fantasy oppressed minority and then completely overlooking all real-life minority oppression is an extremely common failing of ethnic-majority creators trying to take on discrimination storylines.” Of course, failing to engage with e.g. a society’s racism is still at least arguably less painful than perpetuating it via, oh, let’s say something like District 9’s portrayal of its Nigerian characters or the vast failure to consider the implications of everything going on in Netflix’s Bright. I think BNHA at least mostly avoids that particular pitfall!
I did give it some more consideration, though, including bringing it over to @codenamesazanka to talk about. We chatted some about the lack of any portrayal of bias against e.g. people of other Asian ethnicities in the country, the Ainu, or adjacent issues like caste-based bias against burakumin.
None of this is anywhere to be found in BNHA; I think as close as it particularly gets is the understated presence of Chinese-born Rin Hiryu in Class B(2) and a note in Ultra Analysis that Rin's classmates like it when he says, "Aiyaa!" so he humors them. This is, at best, kinda Othering (and Rin having somewhat ambivalent feelings about it is hinted at in the "he humors them" phrasing), but it isn't something we ever see happen on-panel.
CNS did bring up one thing I hadn’t known/thought about, though: Ryukyu is from Okinawa Prefecture. Being from Okinawa Prefecture means she’s from the southern part of the island chain south of mainland Japan collectively called the Ryukyu Islands; it's from these islands that she takes her hero name. Much like the Ainu in the north, the group of people native to the Ryukyu islands have their own ethnicity, their own language, their own cultural history. Also much like the Ainu, they have their own claim to discrimination and suppression at the behest of the Japanese government.
If you already know about the basics of this, feel free to skip the next four paragraphs.
For an extremely brief primer for those readers not in the know—and because I’m certainly no expert!—for a long time, the area was a semi-independent power, a sovereign kingdom in a tributary arrangement with China; this arrangement was allowed to stand even when after the Ryukyu Kingdom was invaded and pressed into a similar relationship with the shogunate in 1609. Early in the Meiji period, however, the area was annexed and renamed and, within a few decades, China agreed to sever ties. As Japan was growing more imperialist, a movement to reconceptualize its people as being one nation, one culture, one language, one identity, etc. led to the imposition of assimilationist policies aimed at erasing the native Ryukyuan/Okinawan culture in favor of the “Yamato” mainland ideal.
As with so many things, this state of affairs changed with the American occupation after the war. The U.S. administered the islands until 1972, and were of no particular inclination to continue suppressing their culture (indeed, it seems several analysts during that period thought that it would be more beneficial to the U.S. to encourage the burgeoning independence movement); the Okinawans didn’t like the Americans much, either, though, thanks to the significant number of military bases established in the islands.
The military bases continue to be the biggest issue in the modern day; the statistic I kept coming across is that even though Okinawan land makes up only 0.6% of Japanese land mass, 75% of USFJ forces are stationed in Okinawa Prefecture, in bases that take up nearly 20% of Okinawa Island. This comes with complaints of noise pollution, environmental degradation, military accidents, overcrowding, and some significant high-profile cases of crimes committed by American military personnel against locals.
The Ryukyuan independence movement persists today. While it’s not exactly a hugely popular view—several polls held in the early aughts tracked the numbers to about 1 in 5 Okinawans who supported declaring independence with or without permission from Japan, and it seems to have trended downward since then, particularly among young people—the military base issue remains a reliable way to fire up voters who retain a strong sense of Okinawan culture and identity as distinct from—or harmonious with—the Japanese identity and don't much like the way the rest of the country views them.
To bring all that back to BNHA, then: Dragon Hero: Ryukyu never makes any out-loud nods in the direction of any of this, but she has named herself for the island chain in a way that you can only partially call a nod to her draconine appearance.(3) I admit I’m probably reaching so hard I’m going to pull something here, but it’s about the best I’ve got for characters with potentially non-Japanese ethnicity that could be coded as “political” in ways that Japanese readers might catch that Western readers might not. (Apologies for all the ‘mights’ and ‘coulds’ there.)
There is also, potentially, whatever’s going on with Rock Lock. There’s no indication in his birthplace (Tokushima Prefecture) or his name (all standard kanji) that he’s e.g. of mixed race, but certainly his appearance and (at least to my eye) a few of the flourishes in his hero costume strongly evoke a Black character. Given how distinct that appearance is, I’m inclined to assume until anything in canon says otherwise that his mother, or perhaps a grandparent, is Black, and he’s hafu.
As to whether Ryukyu or Rock Lock face any ethnicity-based discrimination? Does that bias linger in Hero Society, or has it been entirely supplanted by quirk-related bias instead (a common handwave in cases of fantasy oppression)?
Well, maybe if Ryukyu or Rock Lock were students, we’d have a better idea of that; as it is, they’re pretty well sidelined. Major enough that I want to think their presence is intentional on Horikoshi’s part, but incidental enough that he never has to specify whether we don't see them experiencing discrimination because they don't, or simply because we don't spend enough time with them to see it. Either way, he's not likely to run into trouble with an editor over it and the readers are left with just the heteromorph discrimination plotline to chew on. And, as mentioned here, I’ll have more to say on that another time.
Thanks for the ask, anon—and thanks for the consult, Nal!
---
1: The Hero Public Safety Commission is an obvious play—in the Japanese language as well—on the real-life National Public Safety Commission, which is a governmental body that administers the National Police Agency and is also intended to help the police maintain neutrality against political pressure by operating independently from the rest of the Cabinet. Suggesting that the hero equivalent to this body is raising child soldiers and assassinating anyone that could make their system look bad on the sly is—well. Horikoshi is cloaking himself in the excuse of fantasy, to be sure, but it’s hardly a glowing endorsement of the political status quo.
2: One of three students at U.A. with known international ties, the others being Aoyama (French) and Class B’s Pony (American). No one in Class A ever comments on Aoyama’s somewhat exaggerated French affectations—the cheese, the wine glasses, the periodic mercis. Rin and Pony get at least somewhat more engagement on the matter of their places of birth, though mostly in linguistic terms: Rin has the "Aiyaa" thing, and Pony is not entirely fluent in Japanese, something her classmates are helping her with.
3: Especially since, while ryuu is the Japanese word for “dragon,” it's more common to apply the word to Eastern-style dragons. Western-style dragons are more likely to get called by the English loanword doragon—as indeed Ryukyu is, in that her title is Dragon Hero (doragon hiiro).

Temptation Stairway Thoughts™ + Theory Discussion
TW: blood + Death mentions, Implied (forced/pushed) integration (systems), racism (against asians), unreality stuff bc the show is Like That, Trauma causd by therapy
TL;DR = I mainly talk about implied integration, n as some1 in a system tht! mkes me uncomfy! I mainly will talk abt wht I’m calling the multi-ena theory (n anothr theory ill call the Multiple/Multi-Enaverse Theory) thts been popping up n disccng how thts kind of the bggst thng keepng me on board! I won’t LIE I might b a little biased bc I rlly do like thise show b I am NOT blind so I will try 2 address som things. I also talk alot abt the Shepard n Phindol bc I love themb so much they make me very heart Big.
DISCLAIMERS:
Obviously Joel G Highkey/definitely/most probbly did not intend 4 any of thise, but media is very complic8d so u cn end up accidntlly making problmtc things or implyng not great things
I hav a typing quirkkkk so if u cant understand my post I rlly dont blame u! I’m sorry how I type is Incomprehensible™
Not an angry post, more like my brain is holding me host-ge until i talk abt everyth dskfjhd!!
DO NOT Send anyone in thise post hate or angry asks/messages or perish by my sword
OK so this recnt episde has me w vry vry mixd feelngs!!! I’m both happy n exctd! b litrlly 2 things is whts bothrng me. While I CLD jst say :I Am Lookng Away: i rlly do need 2 write it down. Under a Read-more bc im secure SKSJ
Part 0: I’m uncomfortable help
The Section wher i tlk abt n bring up othr ppl’s concerns
So fr most if nt all the frnds I hav who also wtch Ena ALSO has a vry “vr vry mixd feelngs now tht I’ve seen the episde!!” mood twrds Temptation Stairway! It’s 4 a bunch of rsns, like thise post (tw racism) mde by a frnd whch brings up a good point
Part 1: The Actual Intro
Episode 1 = Auction day (AD) Episode 2 = Extinction Party (EP) Episode 3 = Tempation Stairway (TS)
Who is Ena
Ena can b describd as an "abstract girl split in half, w 1 blue side n the other is her yellow side!" Each side (emotion/mood, 2 b specific) seems 2 hav their own voic actor credited along with seper8 credits 4 each mood! So far the canon sides r Ena (happy), Ena (sad), n Ena (drunk)! They seem 2 act accordingly: Happy acts happy n optimistc, Sad acts sad n especlly depressd, n Drunk acts confused n dizzy [In the Credits, it would look like thise: Ena (happy) by Gabe V., Ena (sad) by Lizzie Freeman, (drunk) Ena by Sam Meza
4 Episodes 1-2, thy follow thise pattern exctly! So we cn expect wht 2 see from them, n each voice actor is creditd accordngly as seper8 b all a part of Ena
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On epside 3, Ena is seen as actng diffrnt!! She's suddnly less predictabl! I say thise bc Suddenly, her voic Actors r not stuck 2 Only their sides. Thise is also emphasized when looking at the credit list! No longer is it "Ena (happy) by Gabe V., Ena (sad) by Lizzie Freeman" it's now jst "ENA by Gabe V. and Lizzie Freeman"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy's voic can sound STRESSED n sad, Happy can tlk w Blue's side in mor control n Sad's voic can sound Really happy n optimistic. Somth's Diffrnt n Not The Same
Temptation Stairway Summary
Skipping 2 my point, The summary of the episode Temptation stairway is tht Moony and Ena have a bet 2 race 2 the Great Runas! The Great Runas, can grnt u any wish accordng 2 Moony n som of those Ena passes by on the wy. The wager, is tht "whoever reaches the top of the Great Runas n makes their wish 1st, has 2 pay the debts of the loser" (yes it’s phrased like that) As Ena journeys thru, The DIFFERENCES between Ena Temptation Stairway and Ena Extinction Party n Below, is mor obvious as the epsde progrsses, even 2 wher Happy's voic actor is the 1 screamng in agony 2 jst get murdered already. The Episode ends w Moony beatng Ena (but it's 100% possibl it can be the other way arnd, that ENA Beat Moony, b thats somth I'll discuss in a bit L8r). Moony splits in half, revealing that according 2 her, "she wished 2 be skinny" n a humanoid coms out of her previous form. As 4 Ena, Her blue side slowly dispprs n its not answrd why.
Theories so far, are:
Moony wished 4 Ena 2 b happy (or 4 her sad/blu side 2 go awy. 4 wht reason can b eithr wholsom or 2 Moony's advntge [like so she "doesnt have 2 deal w Sad Ena"]) - b if Moony wished 4 Ena 2 b happy/b rid of her sad side, tht wld mean perhaps she lied about wishing 2 be skinny (her new humanoid form may be how she is "paying her debt 2 the loser"). Unless the Runas can grant u more than 1 wish.
Ena ws the 1 who wished her blu side awy, whch is a little depressng tbh
If both the above r tru, it may b possibl bc it wsnt clarified (afaik) tht the great runas can only grant ONE person a wish (or more). I think we only get tht implica8ion bc we see 1 (open) door while in the distance, ther r more doors tht look like their eyes r closed. We hav 2 remembr Moony said "whoever makes their wish 1st whch means Ena n Moony can totlly mke wishes @ the sme time
Somhow, turning pure yellow/only happy is how Moony is payng her debt 2 Ena(??) (opposite 2 the 1st theory)
OR If Ena won the race, it can even b possibl 2 consider tht Ena did not make ANY wish, n her debt 2 pay 2 Moony is her sad/blue side removed (I do not subscribe 2 thise)
This info that was brought up 2 me is high evidenc that Moony won the race, n it explains how Moony surprises Ena whn Ena arrives. “I’m The Best and you’re the worst! I wonder who got the hair chest?” said by Ena, is a direct reference 2 a phrase usd by kids when they lose that goes “First is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with the hairy chest.”
“Whoever reaches the top of the Great Runas n makes their wish 1st, has 2 pay the debts of the loser.“ Might be phrased tht way as a weird way 2 pay 4 ur greed? (Last minute addition from me since some people wld think this is quoted wrong in and outside of the youtube comments)
i'm p sure ther may even b mor theories b i dont rmmbr them OOPS
Part 2: The Implied Integration Part AKA: How the System!Ena theory is affected by this episode
TW: Final fusion discussion, medical trauma (Is that the right word)
Disclaimer: This is 100% unintended by Joel G. That’s y the Alternative title 2 thise part is “How the System!Ena theory is affected by this episode”
2 GET IN2 the whole Implied Integr8ion part of my Essay™ I hav a theory calld system ena or sys!ena! (Check out my #system ena tag. This is in chronologicl order!) While thers no canon explan8ion 4 how Ena herslf is how she is, she mkes very intrstng n almst good accdntl Sys Represent8ion 2 me! They even show cofronting rlly well! I headcanon Ena as a system bc of the accidentl system!rep, but it explains 2 me y n how she switches! she has triggers 4 when she switchs 2 a diffrnt side, etc!
Ther hav been theories about Temptation Stairway in the past (before the episode cme out) wher ppl try 2 explain y the trailer Looks Like Tht. Besides theorizing abt the introduction of a new forme (I'm ok w just calling it Scared/Anxiety 4 now until 4rthr notic), 1 of the theories ive seen is tht Temptation Stairway's new introduced forme is due 2 being something akin 2 being "integr8d" (probably by force, accordin 2 the OP) (in other words, all her sides merge in2 one) n Ena being devast8td abt it
While tht theory is now DEBUNKED, bc the new forme clearly did not come out bc of being One Single Mind now, the "integr8ion" part of tht theory is unfortun8ly a littl tru
What is Integr8ion?
Integr8ion is not inherently a bad thing. In systems, ther are 2 definitions: "the breaking down of barriers 2 form healthy multiplicity, n then healthy communic8ion n less amnesiac barriers" and the othr, n mor FAMOUS definition bc its the oldest 1, is "final fusion"
Fnal Fusion is when all the members "fuse/merge" 2gether until ther is 1 single mind left. While not necssrlly a bad thng, final fusion n ther4 "integr8ion" is a scry thing 4 a lot of systems 2 talk abt, because in the history of Treatment, Final fusion is uslly somthng forcd on2 systems 4 the longest time :^(
Very valid 2 hav final fusion as a goal, b showng it as a desire n end goal is uslly seen as a sad n even scry thing 2 promote accdntly or not in media, bc of the previous traumas in the medicl/therapy world of system treatment etc
What's Worse. is tht if we apply the Ending 2 Temptation Stairway to the System!Ena Theory, thts wht hurts!!!
Scrolling back up 2 the possibl theories of who won the race and wht happened aftr, Either Moony or Ena wishing 4 the blue side/Sad Ena 2 go awy is rlly painful!
B I'll be honest, thts a RLLY biased n personal opinion i hav!! I've seen ppl think its rlly wholsom altho a bit Sad, tht the blue side disappears. I've seen ppl think its rlly sweet esp if it was Moony who mde tht wish
BSCLLY If I were to hold on2 the System!Ena headcanon while watchng the Temptation Stairway episode, its Hurtful, not rlly bc of the implied Integr8ion of Sides, but bc most top theories r that the blue side disappeard on Purpose either from Moony or Ena wishing her away or involvng the debt! It's like asking 4 ur sibling irl 2 Disappear and cease 2 exist. it's scary n rlly sad esp whn the audienc can c tht Sad, Happy, n Drunk cn almst b seen as their own persons n mite even b abl 2 interact w each othr (as seen by the many fanart of Happy n Sad having their own seper8 forms)
Ok so Now tht ive described my intro n Main Beef w the Episode, here's a theory I cn rlly get behind tht dsnt mke me wnna cry behind a Denny's. Prsnlly it's a rlly relievng theory even if it mite b hard 2 take in
Ther's no name 4 it, som call it the Enaverse, b just so it dsnt get confusd w other definitions (like, u wldnt call it the Marvel Cinematic Universe theory, the MCU is jst wht it is) I'm gnna call it the Multi-Ena theory! Bsclly, there's mor than 1 Ena in thise universe. But I'll get in2 a sub/partner theory tht is also possibl: ther is mor than 1 enaverse n somhow u may or may not b abl 2 travel between them
Part 3: The Multi-Ena theory
Tumblr media
Something interesting I noticed was that the shepherds says “another ENA troublemaker?” Which definitely means more than one ENA/person has been there before.
(I blockd out the rest of the commnt not bc it ws bad, b i wantd 2 focus on this part of the commnt, but thise commnt will come up again L8r)
Not connected 2 System!Ena or the integr8ion issue I mentioned earlier, the multi-ena theory seems 2 b 1 of the top suggstd theories bc of many thngs! Bsclly n in short, thise theory believs tht in the series (or Enaverse), ther is multipl ena's! So fr i havent seen a post tht RLLY went in2 depth on thise so here is my attempt!
Evidence:
(See: above explanation on how the voic actors r credited 4 their roles individlly 2 explain my system!ena theory/intro) In episodes 1-2, Ena's diffrnt emotions/sides r creditd individually! In Temptation Stairway, Gabe n Lizzie Freeman r all creditd undr the sme nme, just as "Ena" (mening thise is a completely different Ena from the past)
Again, as said in my summry 4 Tempt8ion Stairway, thise Ena acts compltly diffrnt n is not follwng the sme "pattern" or rules as Ena did in Episodes 1-2! (Read above in my summary section) Either ther r stuff we've missd between Extinction Party n Temptation Stairway, or thise is a diffrnt Ena entirely.  I'd hav 2 sy prsnlly tht I'm leanng 2wrds the latter bc of how the VA's are crdtd. but if ur not convinced, let me continu:
Tumblr media
When we meet the Shepard in 7:52 of the episode, they say (verbatim) "Arghh... Another ENA trouble maker." which implies there r more than 1 Ena's
Tumblr media
9:08 - 9:19 when Ena jumps in2 the "Holy Code" where we head undrwtr in2 a sea of diffrnt doors, we see floating Ena models (n the comment section seems 2 gravit8 2 callng them "dead bodies") (Honorary mention: You'll notic they glitch in2 Mannequins if u pay attention 2 them). This piec of info is Direct Evidence 2 the multi-ena theory, bc ther r Explicitly mor thn 1 ena's on screen! wht's concernng n unanswrd tho, is y do they glitch in2 mannequins? Does tht mean all the mannequins we sw on screen in the begnng of the video (n onwards) were all previously an Ena? Is it only an Ena tht can transform in2 a mannequin or cn othr chrctrs also become mannequins?
Tumblr media
Not the strongst evidenc b i'll input it anywy: Ena's Action boxes (Like when she receivs or gives items) spell her nme her as ƎNA (with a backwrds E). The thing abt thise 1 is tht we can't compare it with Auction Day n Extinction Part bc they don't have any action boxes. BUT What we CAN compare is how she is spelled in the dialogue boxes of those speakng in diffrnt languages AND in the Credits! In Episodes 1-2, She's Spelled as Ena with this captialis8ion. In Temptation Stairway the dialogue and credits consitntly spell her as ENA in all caps. May or may not allude 2 her being diffrnt, b i will admit this is the most Strechiest piec of evidnc. Tru or not, I'd like 2 refer 2 Tempt8ion Stairway ena as TS!Ena or ƎNA, prsnlly 2 differenti8 her frm the othr episodes
Pronounci8ion: BUT 2 build on the above evidence, In the beginning of the episode, Moony DOES pronounc Ena's name in different wys a lot, startng w I-NA (ai-na), ENA (ehna), n finally JENA. And this isnt new! She’s been doing it sinc Auction Day (ee-nah/ii-na) n Extinction Party (ay-nah). Thise may or my not sggst that perhaps Moony's inconsistancy is bc these othr pronunci8ions or names cld b of other ena's she's met in the past w similr or diffrnt preferences! I’d say because of her constant switchng in the beginning of Temptation Stairway, it would lean 2wards that she may know different Ena’s @ once. Otherwise, c the Multi-Enaverse theory below
Note: Every othr charctr besides Moony (So far; Merci and the Shepard) Pronounces Ena as ehna (or ehna) so it might be that perhaps Eh-na is the universal way of pronouncng Ena?
Conlusions/thghts on this theory: I prsnlly like thise a lot!! It makes Enasonas Very Possible, b also tht any interpret8ion of Ena cn b corrct or possibl! It knda saddens me tho bc im not rlly sure if we'll ever return 2 the Ena we're used 2, I wldnt rlly want 2 b stuck w/o Sad bc I thnk her role is rlly neat n can b importnt, b im biasd. I also rlly subscribe 2 thise theory bc it means whtvr happend 2 TS!Ena ds not hav 2 be permanent in the long run; Again litrlly the only thng keepng me from gettng supr upset abt the ending of Temptation Stairway, is tht the prev ena’s r not the sme n wld possibly not do thise, or tht ther r othr ena’s out ther besides THISE episod 1, who wld nvr do tht, etc
Part 4: The Multiple Enaverses/Multi-Enaverse Theory AKA The Alternative In Defense of Moony Mispronouncing Ena’s name over and over
An alterntve 2 the Multi-Ena theory, is tht there is MORE thn 1 Enaverse! So bsclly, a multiverse theory. Primarily thise my explain Not jst Ena's sudden Shift in how diffrnt she is in thise episode b may also explain how Diffrnt Moony is actng in thise episode 2. While thise isnt the top theory i prsnlly subscribe 2 (sinc ther isnt explicit evidence besides it bein an explan8ion 4 Moony n Ena's weird/diffrnt behavior), it DOES open a lot of doors 2 intrstng things 2 thnk abt!
Bsclly Moony keeps mispronouncing Ena’s name a lot (in Tempation Stairway) n its Really Rude, esp consdrng she’s always said it properly (As in @ least 1nce in an episode n not switchng multiple times) b4! so 2 Explain her Sudden change in behavior, this is actlly a Different Moony, besides a different Ena. this is a whole different universe/timeline!
LIKE If not multiple Ena's, The different Loca8ions in Ena cn probbly b traversible across dimensions! The Holy Code may b the door 2 diffrnt enaverses. The Shepard's garden cld b an interdimensionl place tht is singular n deals w diffrnt beings passing thru! While i dnt hav mch 2 sy on thise, its RLLY Interestng 2 thnk abt
Like the Multi-Ena theory, thise also opens the doors 2 enasonas being vry possibl :^) Som ppl's evidences r all involvng Moony besides how Ena's rlly diffrnt
Moony can skateboard??
Moony's square shape hole can shrink 2 hold an item
while not strong ATM or frm wht i cn see, its still very inch restng!!! Tho I would sy it is VERY on par w the Multi-Ena theory anyway
Part 5: Honorary Mentions: Mini Theories
The Great Runas is actlly a play on the "Run As" Command! I'm not very Smart engh 2 break thise down vry well, b bsclly w all the allusion 2 "codes" n the Blood ID looking like a Chip, The Great Runas being abl 2 grant u wishes makes a lot of sense! This ws brought up 2 me from a friend (@ambercard)!
like its a command line. so then the great runas being able to grant wishes makes sense if its digital world like all the code stuff says Allows a user to run specific tools and programs with different permissions than the user's current logon provides.
Runas is a command-line tool that is built into Windows Vista. To use runas at the command line, open a command prompt, type runas with the appropriate parameters, and then press ENTER.
In the user interface for Windows Vista, the Run as… command has been changed to Run as administrator. However, you should rarely have to use the Run as administrator command because Windows Vista will automatically prompt you for an administrator password when it is needed.
and my friend who i was talking to said that probably explains what the password was for and the blood id being a login or something?
its possible using the blood id akin to using the run as administrator command since idk their name but one of the people ena met said the blood id didnt seem like her which is like. if she isnt administrator then it would make sense that using that command wouldnt match who she is
My response:
Tumblr media
man do u realiz Ena uslly does not hav the corrct passwrd/admin privileges all the tme? Bc the guardian entity in extinction party askd her 4 1 b i guess it ws so Low Game tht it wsnt supr necsrry in the end
The Enaverse is all a computer code of some sort- most probbaly a game! AKA: This is a digital world
Tumblr media
... If we were too treat this world as a video game this would make more sense since different play through bus and all that. Oh god this feels like a fnaf situation, taking a video that just wants to be a video and turning it into a big serious thing
Tumblr media
Going with the whole ‘there are multiple enas representing the player’ theory, perhaps this ENA realized that she’s in a video game and isn’t taking it too well? But the game is kind of glitching out because of it.
Honorable Mentions: Random Info + Unanswered Questions
Ena seems self-aware of smth! (10:24 Ena screams "YOU'RE ALL LIVING A LIE!") May help the Run as command idea n the video game/digital reality idea! If not a video gme, they sure r Somewhere
What does the Great Runas look like?? is it the door? is ther mor thn 1 Runas?
What is Mariya n Gabo's Job? R they just like the Guardian Entity in Extinction Party but are assignd 2 this part/location of where they are?
In 6:30, wht does Ulysses mean by "Desires r never fulfilled nor quenched"? "You Will fail like the rest of them" Is he referring 2 the other Ena's that's passed by? who else have come n failed?
This Post Also brings up som good points I hvnt noticd yet!
Thise comment pretty much says everythng:
Tumblr media
Standout things from this animation:
-This Ena switches between a male & female voice at seemingly random instead Happy speaking with a male voice and Sad speaking with a Sad voice. The text boxes noticeably refer to this Ena with a reversed E, and The Shepard says "Another Ena troublemaker", implying that there are multiple Enas. We also see some Ena corpses flickering into the mannequin bodies at one point. Third, at the end we see Ena's sad half turn from blue to yellow over the course of Ena & Moony's conversation. My personal theory is that this Ena is possibly 'broken' in some manner. -Moony either doesn't care or dosen't realize that Ena's voices aren't matching the personalities anymore. -The grey personality appears to come out when Ena gets too stressed out. Notably the transformation involves the happy half turning into static and exploding out, erasing Ena's face in the process. It also appears that some physical trauma (in this case, Brick Frog kicking Ena) is necessary to exit the grey personality, unlike the previously seen 'blackout' personalities which can possibly be switched by the other personality exerting themselves (in the auction episode, Ena enters her sad blackout/depressed personality, then switches to Happy!Ena, who apologizes to Moony about her depressed outburst). -Moony's hole is capable of closing to hold things, and she also knows how to skateboard. -Judging by Ena's reaction, Moony's transformation at the end is weird even by this universe's standards.
aaaand thats all 4 now! I really hope thats all my brain can think of skjsdhfsdfkh
Feel free 2 send me asks abt Ena theories n stuff! While this is a Comprehensiv post, it’s definitely mor focused on the Multi-Ena theory n my thghts on the episode whn it comes 2 how it affects the System Ena theory. I’m open 2 questions!!

This was enjoyable but admittedly an empty platitude, not because I agree with those who didn’t like it, but it doesn't really say anything that I haven't heard from my mom and my own High School teachers that actually did something about it. Like was this supposed to be for kids and teens? Teachers? School administrators that probably aren’t gonna give a shit about what a pre-teen show has to say?
It says there are black cowboys, warriors, musicians, etc. but gives people no other examples to think about. Lewis Latimer's the one takeaway & even then, there's more to the lightbulb's history than this one man. We shouldn't even be THAT reliant on schools to teach us everything, especially when students can be capable of just... not caring about what other people teach. Sorry but it’s true. Not everyone will know of Dick Gregory, Nat Turner, Lewis Latimer, Charles Drew, Huey P Newton upon so many else and they aren’t as inclined to care either as much we want to believe.
Do y'all know John Brown, a pre civil war abolitionist that actually hunted & killed slave owners and supporters? Bet they haven’t and won't teach him in schools and I bet you didn't know he was white either. Achievers of all color exists, but you gotta do more than make an elevator pitch. Hot take but racism will never go away, however we’re in the era where we gotta do more than pointing out the problem, especially like this.
More importantly, your parents should be as much there for your education as a school that can/will only do so much as you want to put in for yourself. That should've been more of the lesson with this. There is indeed enough wrong with American education system, but you shouldn’t rely on a system to provide what you might want or need to learn yourself, especially when it comes to history.
Tumblr media
That & it'd help CN's case if they actually provided more black talent a chance in showrunning but that’s neither here nor there.

Prayers during an Epidemic
1. A Prayer for the Global Health Crisis MARCH 4, 2020, by my friend Dr. Carlos  Colón https://carloscoloncomposer.com/2020/03/04/a-prayer-for-the-global-health-crisis/
God is our refuge and strength; A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
Our God who is with us, Emmanuel, we come to you asking you for your assistance, and to lend your ear in this time of distress.
Hear, our prayer O Lord.
As you lifted once a paralyzed man from his bed, we ask you to come and visit us, and raise our bodies and spirits.
Hear, our prayer O Lord.
Grant to us the gift of your Holy Spirit, that our bodies and souls may be protected from infirmity.
Lord, Have mercy.
And we pray for those who are now suffering from this disease: we beseech you, O Lord, to visit them, encourage them, and heal them according to your great lovingkindness.
Lord, Have mercy.
As you once listened to the cry of the Canaanite woman, we beseech you to hear our voice, for every country hit hard by this disease, and specially: China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, and many other places in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Lord, Have mercy.
And we pray Lord for the families, friends, and medical personnel who care for the sick, and for those who are being monitored.
Be their Rock of Ages.
Please bless all scientists, researchers, public health officials and governments who seek and prescribe treatments, and for those who are working toward a vaccine.
Be their wisdom!
And for all of us, Lord, guide us so that this may be a time of reflection and good will to work to eradicate the diseases that threaten our bodies, and the hate that threatens our souls.
Lord, Have mercy.
O God our help in ages past, the God who heals and comforts; our Maker, and the Maker of wonders; the one who alone is worthy to be praised: incline your ear to us, and grant, in your mercy, the prayers of your people.
Amen.

2.  Love Thy Sick Neighbor: A Liturgy in Times of the Coronavirus by Kayla Craig,  March 4, 2020 https://www.redletterchristians.org/love-thy-sick-neighbor-a-liturgy-in-times-of-the-coronavirus/
[See link above for an introduction]
Forgive us
As we have feared others,
And in doing so
Have contaminated our hearts.
Forgive us
As we have hoarded our resources,
And in doing so
Have abandoned our witness.
Forgive us
As we have desired control,
And in doing so
Have not loved our neighbor.
Comfort the afflicted among us.
In their loneliness, provide care.
In their sickness, provide health.
In their weariness, provide rest.
We grieve the contagious fear that we consume and spread.
Soothe our anxious minds as we read viral headlines.
And protect those who have been victims of racism and fear-mongering
Because of our dread of the unknown.
Protect us from the evil one
Who aims to use each update, not to inform or guide,
But to stoke the flames of chaos and confusion.
We thank you for health care workers
Who care for the sick and tend to bodies and souls
With great compassion and commitment.
Give them stamina.
Give them wisdom.
Give them grace.
We pray for those who lack access to health care,
Or safe places to rest their heads.
We pray for the vulnerable:
The sick,
The disabled,
The elderly,
The uninsured.
For the Kingdom is theirs.
We pray for the mother working paycheck to paycheck,
Who worries about her children and the job she can’t afford
To take time off from.
For she reflects Your image.
We pray for the chronically ill fighting invisible battles,
Hour by hour, day by day.
Nourish their bodies;
Protect their souls.
For they are never out of your sight.
We lament our roles in an empire
That values profit over human life
And takes advantage of our anxious spirits.
We acknowledge that we are not immune to the human condition,
And we repent from ways we have benefited
From dehumanizing systems and structures.
We ask for your Holy guidance
As we journey into the unknown.
Ignite in us a spirit of generosity;
Of hope and mercy;
Of grace and truth;
Of gentleness and self-control.
Cleanse our spirits,
Comfort our minds,
Care for our bodies,
And make us new.
We give thanks that you lavish your grace onto us,
Not pushing us into shame, but providing a steadfast comfort.
When all else falls away, we turn to You and You alone.
We pray this in the name of Jesus
Who healed the sick
And sat with the poor.
Amen.

3. A Coronavirus Prayer Amid an Epidemic by Kerry Weber, March 02, 2020 https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2020/03/02/coronavirus-prayer
Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.
Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.
Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.
Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders
Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.
Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.
Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.
Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.
Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.
Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.
Jesus Christ, heal us.

Remember Who We Are
In uncertain times like these, it’s easy to lose our bearings and focus on stocking the freezer or finding the last remaining N95 masks from a cousin of an uncle of a friend in Turkey who can get you a special  delivery at an unbeatable price. Yet church history reminds us of the countercultural posture of our spiritual ancestors during times of great affliction.
In 252 A.D., a devastating plague hit the ancient North African coastal city of Carthage. Healthy people fled in droves, leaving everything behind. In response, Carthaginian Bishop Cyprian drew all the Christians into the center of the very city where they had been persecuted and told them, “If we’re going to do what Jesus did, so that through His poverty we might become rich, I call you to give personal and financial aid, care and comfort to all according to their need, not their faith.”
This unconventional posture clearly differentiated these early Christians from the society that surrounded them and contributed significantly to the perpetuation of the Christian faith.
About a century and a half later, the ancient Mediterranean city of Caesarea had already been suffering the effects of famine and war when the plague struck. As citizens began fleeing the city, one group determined to remain: the Christians. As Bishop Eusebius reported, “All day long [the Christians] tended to the dying and to their burial, countless numbers with no one to care for them. Others gathered together from all parts of the city a multitude of those withered from famine and distributed bread to them all.”
Eusebius goes on to state that because of their compassion in the midst of the plague, the Christians’ “deeds were on everyone’s lips, and they glorified the God of the Christians.”
While we face uncertain days ahead, let every Spirit-filled heart remain open and, “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9.
Please join me in praying for the safety and health of our community and that our church can showcase the hope of Christ during this time.
Following a Faithful God, Pastor John Lindow at Arbor Heights Community Church in West Seattle.  (March 2020)
