I'm watching the new live action One Piece. I've watched half of it so far (4 episodes, including the Axhand Morgan arc, the Buggy the Clown arc and the Captain Kuro arc). As a long-time One Piece fan I have to say it has no right to be as good as it is! It's so good.
I have to admit that I was thrown off for a few moments by the fact that it's in English. I've never been into One Piece in translation, so it just feels weird. But that's immaterial.
The actors are amazing. The editing is amazing. It stays true to the source material and the changes made are for the most part good ones that make for a tighter story (One Piece is known to be sprawling, and there's a lot of world building and characters to cover). This is made with love. I'm so happy. :D
There's something so oddly charming about seeing the One Piece world in live action. A lot of the aestetics are very over-the-top cartoony. This is slightly toned down just to work at all in a world with real-ish physics, but it's still there. But at the same - I would have expected it to feel plastic-y or CGI-ish, but it's not. Alvida's pink ship feels real. The Going Merry feels real. It's so well made.
And. The music from the original anime. They played Binks no sake in the background of one of the Shanks scenes. MY FEELINGS. And the Going Merry set sail to the tones of We Are! <3
(The only bad thing is that since this is Netflix, there's pretty much no chance that it'll run for as long as it needs to to make One Piece justice.)

Tumblr users: "I love tumblr's minimalist aestetic"
Tumblr: "here is a new dashboard to clutter it up, the good news is we're doing an experiment, the bad news is we've already decided you're all getting it"
Tumblr users: "I hate it, it's too cluttered, change it back"
Tumblr: "We hear your feedback! Here's a giant unremovable clown pirate, if you don't like it write a program about it lol"

hello! i was wondeing what breed of clown i should adopt? ive never owned a clown before, im a very cuddly person and id like it if it was open to hugs ! aestetics of the clown does not matter to me but i care more about tempement, also can you sugest housing and what would be apropriate? anything a first time clown ownwer would need to know about the breed, thanks so much!
Ah dear one, the choosing of a life companion is a most thought-provoking endeavor. Be sure to give thought to your needs, your lifestyle and the amount of time you can devote to your new-found friend.
Are you perhaps a dweller of an apartment or condo? Mayhaps with a penchant for indoor activities and ample time to devote to a friend? If so consider a miniature juggler or porcelain. Their fragility makes them ill-suited for the more sporty types and they tend to be a bit needier with the affection they require.
Do you perhaps have to travel for work? Nothing but you, a suitcase, the open road and an open seat next to you in the automobile, train or other such locomotive device? Then consider a hobo!
Are you a rancher or a farmer? Do you keep cows, chickens or goats? Are you sporty with an active lifestyle? A Rodeo clown would make for a most pleasant companion!
Are you an avid ren-fair enthusiast? Do you have a taste for the gilded and gaudy? Perhaps with a penchant for comically large turkey legs? Are you an adventurer with a heart of gold in need of some comic relief? A jester would be perfect!
Are you a film major? Do you complain that your friendā€™s music tasteā€™s are too mainstream? Take a mime please. Just take them.
In shorter form, take into account yourself and your life before choosing a new friend to share it with! After that, you may look into the specific breedā€™s more in-depth requirements.
I myself believe that you may be a good fit for a porcelain teacup or a stretchy-armed juggler, but without other information on yourself I cannot be more sure. Do take in your living and lifestyle appropriately!

Reflection 1: Color Theory Reflection
Color theory seems so interesting yet it also seems like an idea that is not taught or discussed at all. After watching the video, I realized that color is more important than it is set out to be, yet it is so underrated. I say underrated because our eyes and brains naturally adjust to different color schemes and make those connections for us. For instance, our brains naturally associate the directions traffic lights are giving, yet I question who came up with red meaning stop, yellow meaning slow down, and green meaning go? This reminds me of what was discussed in my sociolinguistic class where language can be broken up into signs: Icons, Index, and symbols. All semiotics being translated to form different societal meanings. With color theory, it is interesting to see such associations that differ culturally even though the video only discusses color theory that may be limited to one culture and to a color palette that is not color blind.Ā
Our brains also associate colors with emotions. Yellow is happiness, red is passion or anger, etc. Color has meaning, just like flowers have meaning. Flower has color so are the meanings of the flowers derived from color? A lot of things have color and the meanings are closely associated with the meaning of the color in specific societies.Ā
I also thought how color schema can be associated differently in different cultures. For example, in American society, the bride wears white to her wedding and everyone wears black to funerals to show respect. However, there are other cultures where red is the color worn by the bride in marriage and white is worn to funerals to signify purity and show respect. Going back to my point about color being "underrated", these associations are societal because in one culture, wearing too much color is the norm but can be seen as "too much going on" by another untrained eye. Not only culture, but fashion sense as well. Clowns are known to contrast primary colors. However, even though bright color signifies joy and fun, it is ironic how there are still so many people who have actually developed a fear of clowns.Ā
Circling back to actual design and aestetics, color really is everywhere and has a big impact on the message that is being displayed and how it will be received by a specific society or audience. I was surprised to see the many color schema because to most people, there are colors mixes that are so are so natural that they think nothing of the design, like red + green = Christmas colors or purple + yellow+ green = Joker's colors, etc.Ā
I also remember doing a product management assignment where we had to design a sign up app mockup. The feedback I received was about the colors not contrasting enough to include possible color blind customers. It is also interesting to think that people who are color blind may have a different color palette than someone who is not.Ā
