Being a bootleg deck of cards, there are certainly many flaws and imperfections.

The trimming around the edge was uneven. The text font were different from cards to cards. The shading of the drawing looks flat compare to the original Clow cards design. I later found out that this was actually the Sakura version of the cards, the colors were changed to match that of Clow cards.

It bothers me at first when I got the deck. It's what i got for paying such a low price for an unofficial deck afterall. I sat with it. But still, i felt like it affected my feeling when working with the cards. I knew almost all its abnormalities, I could even recognize some of the cards before turning to see what they are. And so uncousiously, i would shuffle the deck again because i didnt want certain cards being pulled.

Maybe that's the feeling of "wasn't right" at the time i first bought this deck.

When i pulled the deck of cards out of its dusty slumber and getting to know the cards again. I thought to myself: What is magic, if not adding my own touch?

And that began my journey of coloring in the cards xD It is a risky move because there's no way of erasing the colors once i added it in. But that's the fun part of it. I feel more connected to the cards. And in a way, i feel like the cards were more alive as i color them in. Maybe the magic isn't because it was officially approved by the distributors, the shops, the sellers. Maybe the magic is what we made out of what we have.

I am consistently so proud and thankful for my cards and how they share their power. I love how genuine and caring each entity is and how willing they are to offer advice, even to new friends. That’s not to say they aren’t mischievous and can even be dangerous at times if summoned incorrectly. (I have a story of how a combination of cards inadvertently brought several well-established magicians to their knees, but that’s perhaps for another time.)

For context, this is my personal deck that I created several years back drawing inspiration from the various decks Sakura Kinomoto wielded throughout Cardcaptor Sakura and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card and applied attributes from those cards to a system I have been helping my partner develop. While I also own a facsimile deck of Sakura Cards, I find my personal deck to be much more honest and in tune with the intentions of each entity.

I generally only do readings for myself (with this particular deck or by utilizing other methods) but I am involved with a small community of practitioners and we occasionally do readings for each other. Last night I received an amazingly quick and auspicious geomancy reading from my partner and I had the opportunity to read for one of my friends. I wasn’t provided a question to tailor my responses to so I used one of my ‘avatars of divination’ (read: magicaly charged fortune telling toy) for the novelty of a ‘yes’, ‘no’, or ‘inconclusive’ response before doing a single card pull. For my friend, Watery, the Agent of Process made themselves known. She is one of four reflections of the self, or the querent, present in my deck. While they have the ability to be tempestuous and destructive, she is arguably most powerful when fully cooperative. She offered that people would be more willing to open up and work with my friend if they were gentle and understanding. Apparently this, in addition to the ‘inconclusive’ response from the chosen avatar, was just what my friend needed to hear. (It was great hearing that another friend, who was privy to the situation, agreed with this sentiment!)

This is all to say that I love my cards. I love their gentle natures when they are called upon earnestly and I love them when they surprise me with their great power.

To kick this off, I want to admit that I've never fully watched the CCS anime, nor read the manga in its entirety. But the idea that of each of the cards holding unique magical attributes has always been intriguing to me. And because of that, despite never watching the anime fully, CCS still have a very big place in my heart.

I finally bought a bootleg version of the Clow cards somewhen 2021, because it was at a price i could afford. And since I had never intended to dive deep into reading Oracle or Tarrot, there was no point for me to buy an "official" (expensive) version. In short, i just want to have some silly ol fun xD

Another honest confession: the deck of Clow cards was collecting dust on my shelf up till now, 2024. Maybe it just wasnt the right time back there. And now, what makes it the right time? Do i know? Nope, i just feel like it is. I have been talking with the cards, through the cards. It was still, at its core, a fun experience. It's like finding an old friend bluntly telling me what's going on around me

I created this blog because i had this idea of writing down my own interpretation of each cards. These interpretations are, of course, inspired by the clow card instruction book (the many versions of it), what I made of the anime episodes (from reading the wikia), and the many many Clow card divination blog posts by writers and bloggers all over the net, and finally, based on my own feeling and intuition. I want to document my journey of learning about this form of expression.
