The huff that she gives in a sentiment that he could relate to. Any time he was told to sit on the sidelines too, he knew he would be sighing and bemoaning about it until he got himself involved anyways. Sometimes, to the determent of whatever was going on. Hell, he was curious now too.
❝ I've spent the better half of two decades being given vague to no answers from Nat. I think it's in her blood now at this point. ❞ Although, sometimes that usually came from uncertainty and from what he gathers that's where nerves set in, even for someone like Natasha.
Clint sits opposite of her, scratching at his own chin and snapping his fingers until Lucky comes over to let him pet him, give him something to do before he knows he'll inevitable have to pass the tv remote to Ana and be subjected to whatever she wanted to watch.
❝ Junk food is the only food I know. ❞ That's not actually true; he had raw ingredients for cooking when he felt like cooking or knew he'd need the good food boot for training days. Clint scoffs a laugh as she says she wants to learn to shoot his bow.
❝ My bow... or a bow? ❞ Without years of training and familiarity with bows, pulling and shooting from a two hundred and fifty draw weight wasn't just about pure strength. His pride with archery wasn't just spawned from ego.
Ana huffed in her chair, find herself collapsing just slightly at the thought of being stuck there while her parents were off fighting the fight that she had wanted to be a part of. More than once Bucky had mentioned how much like Steve Ana really was. There was a sigh as she looked out the window.
"No...Not surprising though...They tend to try an' not tell me how long there gonna be gone." Made it easier to not get pestered about when they would be coming home if they never knew to begin with.
She never really let herself stay more than grumpy about it. She knew her parents just wanted to protect her. She could respect that, it didn't stop her own desire to do the right thing and protect people. It was so easy for her to not remember that she just needed to worry about being a kid sometimes.
"If we're gonna be stuck here though..." She finally mused, looking up at him almost like she was sizing him up. Even through she wasn't. "Can we at least eat junk food? And I wanna learn how to shoot your bow."

Marvel's The Order (2007) quotes -> Accepting // hey! be nice to your uncle, he is very tired and somebody did try to stab us !! @shootsxruns -> Hey -- toughen up, buttercup. - to uncle clint!
HE SQUINTS AT HER, TOTALLY OFFEND. LIP PARTING.
There's an internal debate of whether he takes the arrow shaft that he was working on to whack her or reach over to flick her on the forehead. It would absolutely be earned, considering he was recording from a stab to his shoulder. Trying to defend him and Ana from a hunter duo who had manged to get the jump on the two of them.
Some of his arrows got snapped in the ensuing fight, and considering he had a thing about using bows? They were taking the lull in infected to craft more, and let his stab wound heal. At least for day.
TRAVELING ACROSS THE COUNTRY WAS GOING LIKE THIS.
❝ Oh, I'm sorry, pigeon! Were you the one stabbed and thrown flat on his ass breaking most of my ammunition? ❞ He snips right back as he lifts up an arrow to wave it around. Clint huffs, grumbles to himself of nothing that could be made out as he finishes up another arrow.
❝ There should be deer up in these parts, and ARROWS are going to be a lot more effective in not scaring them away. So don't toughen up buttercup me. ❞ He doesn't see her being useful at the moment.

HE MEANS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HIS ARROWS AS A JEST. That was something he could get over, craft them both more and if kept being clean with his shots? He could reuse them, which would always be a point he would use against the argument of why not use guns more. Bullets were not reusable like an arrow could be.
Clint looks up at the kid standing over him; his niece was the only living family and the reason that he's burning the oil, pushing himself as hard as he could. SHE'S BEEN THROUGH A LOT. They both had, but they had making this out alright.
At least he thinks so, given the world state and given how Bucky and Natasha left the both of them. IT WAS FUCKED BUT HE'S WORKING TO UNFUCK IT, YOU HEAR HIM? A sight passes his lips, Clint was trying not to be snippy as he could be, usually was.
HE SEES HOW MUCH ANA IS TRYING.
❝ With the arrows, nah, pigeon. It's alright, I can make more unlike bullets. ❞ Ana's already had to encounter and deal with Clint's thing about guns. A couple weeks back they were they moving a small group, and someone tried to put a gun in his hand. HE STILL DID BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE IN PROBLEM SOLVING.
❝ Show me your snare work than, I think I still remember how to make rabbit stew. ❞ He scratches at his chin, and he's trying to give her as many opportunities to feel like she's contributing. It wouldn't matter to him if she did less, SHE DESERVES SOME CUT SLACK. Clint sure as hell knew he needed that when he lost his wife Bobbi and his adopted teenager Kate.
⧗ ┉┉┉ Life without her parents was...NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get used to sometimes. Sometimes she would wake up in the morning, and expect to hear her mom or dad quip something about rising and shining, and while her UNCLE CLINT did the best that he could to make up where she lacked with missing them...When he would do things like try and help her when she fell, it was a CONSTANT reminder of her parents.
When he spoke, she paused for a moment, rolling her lips before looking down at the CANNED BEANS she had made her dinner for the night, and a stale dinner role she had grabbed when they passed through a settlement who offered to help them. Because they didn't know who SHE was.
ANA thought about adding that they wouldn't be in the situation of needing to worry about ammunition, but given his sore mood about being knocked over on them, she decided to keep her mouth shut for now, rolling her lips again.
"I saw rabbit droppings in the woods. I can make some snares and see if we catch any." She tried to help where she could. She was quite CAPABLE already, but she knew she was still just a kid, and being able to do something like trap often helped her parents...well when they were alive, not be so worried about her. "I'm...I'm sorry about the arrows. Can I help?"

HE'D DO SOMETHING SPECIAL IN THE HONOR OF NATASHA AND BUCKY.
The crazy bastards would manage to plan their own assassination pr execution except Clint knew they were not getting out of the death part. They knew that they would not. Clint feels his own tears start to well up as he thinks about that.
It was a damn respectable thing to do and he knows what it meant. They had dangerous jobs before the world got infected and people died by the masses as humanity started to revert back to a survive first world. It may have been unavoidable but their final fuck you to the world was orchestrating how they went out.
The unit they had been, that kind of thing meant a lot. It's why Clint was angry with the both of them when they pulled him back from his own decision. It's why Bobbi's death had stung because it shouldn't have happened, it had been a necessity. Natasha and Bucky's death had been that as well and one day Clint thinks his own will be as well. Kate's had been neither her choice or a necessity.
❝ I know it's hard to believe, some days I feel like that about Kate and Bobbi; but they are gone and they want you to carry on. ❞ After all the years that had past, part of Clint refused to accept that they were gone and he would wake up from some bizzare coma. That this entire situation was a fucked up nightmare that his brain cooked up.
Clint grabs Ana by the shoulder and guides her to his couch that he had managed to pad up the cushions better. He pulls her to a hug and is silent as he goes through his own emotions. Clint feels like he is probably in shock and the angry sobbing will come later.
He gives them several minutes of him just holding her, waiting for the wave of emotions to go through. Clint gives it time but the clogs in his wheel had to start spinning.
It's going to be feel cruel but he needs to turn on the radio that he has stashed that was patched into the FEDRA's comms so that he could hear the play by play of what was happening. Clint gets it out, starting to set it up so that he patches into the their comm. There's a lot of static and he has to turn his volume up as he tunes in.
❝ Did they tell you anything? Don't get specific, just give me a nod. A location, a name? ❞
The chatter is about sending a team to clear out the zone and recover any survivors but he knows what that meant. They were looking for Natasha and Bucky to confirm they didn't survive.
It was nearly impossible to process much of anything while Clint ran her from where they were to, to where his apartment was. All she could think about was wanting to get to her parents. She couldn't lose them. Being without them wasn't something she was ready to accept, leaving her able to do nothing but sob into his chest where he held her.
She could still feel the heat from the flames, even as they ran up the stairs, well...As Clint ran up the stairs. They weren't gone. They couldn't be. Natasha and Bucky were two of the smartest, most clever, and toughest people she knew, and now it was like they were never there.
Whenever Clint said he was sorry, promising to take care of her, it all made her wanna scream. She shouldn't need that. Her parents should be there with them.
Her world was spinning, and she didn't know how to make it all stop. She'd give anything to make this not happen. She remembered her mom and dad telling her a few days ago, if anything happened, that she needed to get the truth to the right people. Everyone needed to know.
As Clint continued to try and sooth her, she looked up at him, waiting to find out this was some sick joke. But those tears glistening in his eyes told her everything she needed to know.
This was real. They were gone.
She shook her head. Desperately trying to find reason in all this, but she couldn't no matter how much she tried, a world without them didn't make any sense. "They can't be...They can't be gone Clint."

There was no way he was caving this time, even if curiosity did kill the cat and he was the cat. It doesn't help that Ana wanted to follow and know just as much as he did, probably more. However, he was trying this time to respect the instructions he was given and trust that he wasn't needed there, or that they were part a different part of the plan.
Clint follows his eyes over to Lucky as well, whose happily wagging his tail and sticking out his tongue as he receives affection from Ana. ❝ Look at him, how could I not bring him into this? You'd leave him by his lonesome? ❞ He gestures his hand to the mutt.
Thank god that Ana had a sense of humor, mocking him for his slip up talking to her like she was Lucky who needed a walk. ❝ I think Lucky has one stashed under the entertainment center if you need to bite something. ❞
He mirrors her movements, leaning into the table with a sigh. ❝ Oh, uh- ❞ He hadn't asked, Clint really needed to stop saying yes to everything, at least when it came to threatening superspies. ❝ I don't know, anything get mentioned to you? It could be days, weeks... Wait, what if it's months? ❞ He was not prepared for impromptu god-fatherhood. This was more dramatic speculation than anything else.
Ana knew Clint and her mom were close. She was glad she had someone when the family had been separated. She allowed it to slide for now, though she was far from done with trying to get him to cave on trying to catch up to them. No matter how much that was NOT going to happen.
She smirked and looked to the dog at their feet, seeing his cute dopey face and reaching to pet him behind the ears.
"You would bring him into this?" She asked with a fake sense of drama to it. As if to say 'how could you?' "I'm sure he'd love having the place all to himself anyways."
A furrowed brow watched him as he asked his questions, actually looking to the dog at their feet by the table before looking back to Clint. "Now but I could use a chew toy if ya got one." She mocked before leaning her elbows onto the table. "So how many days do we have to do this anyways?

Don't let her get involved.
That was all. His mission was as simple as that. Clint didn't know anymore than that. It wasn't like he could ask Natasha about what she would be up to. All he saw was the ammunition boxes and her steel herself as she always does. That's not for lack of trying on Clint's part that he know only five words.
The man asked and bugged for any details to no avail.
Don't let her get involved.
❝ You think you can out-puppy eyes Lucky? You're going to hurt his feelings if you do. Do you want to hurt my dog's feelings? ❞
He could play this game all day. Babysitting wasn't the worst job to get assigned. Blue eyes squint as she smiles at him, it's a marvel to look at her and see his two friends in her. Cute. He's so proud. When she brings up what they were supposed to do, that's where Clint realizes the flaw in these plans. What were they going do?
Boredom always was one of his greatest adversaries. ❝ I don't know. You hungry or need a walk? That came out wrong. ❞
━━━━━ * 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐌. She would have to try other methods. She huffed, her shoulders SLOUCHING in momentary defeat. She looked down and kicked at the ground with her booted foot, shrugging her bag over her shoulder and continuing into the house.
As far as people she could have ended up with while her parents were off fighting NAZI's...without her, much to her disdain, Clint wasn't actually THAT bad. He was funny at least. And didn't always act like an old man like some.
"What about the puppy dog eyes." She teased before walking into the house. "Mom and Dad say it's getting pretty good."
She joked MOSTLY. A very characteristic smile that she only could have inherited from her mom. She smiled brighter when he mentioned her mom being far scarier than her. "You haven't seen me with a knife." She countered before collapsing into a dining room chair dramitcally. "So what are we even supposed to do while their gone?"

Why does he always get put on babysitting duty? It's not lost on him that it's because if he tried to fight either Natasha or Bucky on this. Super spies and super soldiers with their super serum. He wasn't going to fight them on this, but they had to at least know he'd be the worst possibly babysitter.
❝ Come on, don't do Buckaroo's grumpy cat face. It's not cute on him, it's not gonna work on me. ❞
He crosses his arms back, matching her in his stance and pouts just as much. It was simple, they stay put. That's all they had to do. Clint's not going to be swayed because his best friend's kid pouts at him.
Although, why they were leaving them behind? When Clint's known to go notoriously off script and interject himself into any mission.
❝ Your mother's looked at me with meaner looks than that while a holding knife. ❞
[ @oceansfirst ] 𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐎𝐍 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐒: " 𝐚𝐡, 𝐚𝐡, 𝐚𝐡... 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞. "
━━━━━ * Ana looked back at her mother's best friend, her arms crossed over the front of her with a bit of an incredulous look. "It seems to be pretty simple." She countered back, aware at how childish she sounded. She didn't WANT to be left behind, even if her parents explained it was for her own good.

IT WAS JUST THE TWO OF THEM NOW.
Clint has one thought going through his head and that was he can't look back. Do NOT look back and keep carrying the kid through the streets, do not stop for anything until he's at his apartment door and do not put Ana down.
It's a fucked up world she lives in and while he can't say to Ana that he nor her parents were better people in the world before the cordyceps outbreak. All of their hands were stained with blood in the service of SHIELD. This version of the world they lived in was a lot worse and she's just a kid. He could say that they were good people who did was necessary, but considering the fact that he can imagine the two of their burning corpses he doesn't think that would be a comfort right now.
The fact that they did what was necessary and Clint has to wonder what it was that the both of them had to have known that the gig was up. That they couldn't plan an organized strike with the Fireflies or run their way out of this. He's pretty sure that Natasha knew the building they were meeting in was rigged.
Isn't that fucked up? Clint tries not to laugh in pain, at the thought that he found it comforting, that he realized his best friend must have known her execution day and this was the way she chose to go out, with Bucky. A part of him is glad that he didn't know that, that he didn't figure that out until right now as he's holding Ana against him, carrying her around like when she was little and could barely utter a word.
❝ I'm sorry, Ana... ❞ Fuck, he was angry at them, he was angry at FEDRA but marching up to anyone who wore that uniform and decking them in the face would earn him four shots to the chest.
Yet he's still glad that he didn't know about this. Still it asks a bigger question, what was it that led Bucky and Natasha to figure that letting FEDRA succeed at killing them was the better outcome here. The fact they knew and chose this day to die. Clint knows he would shouted from the rooftops that they were idiots if they had clued him into grimdark conversations in that room.
It must mean that they knew too much and he's guessing not even the Fireflies know as whole. It had to have been a nuke worthy secret and one that would start a war that the maybe no one was ready for. They had to die with that secret, except Bucky and Natasha were smart and Clint use to run cons in his youths and was part of their team in SHIELD.
Ana's gotta have some big secret that maybe they downplayed the importance of, told her not to say, or one that they were banking on no one guessing they'd tell their kid to. FUCK.
He didn't want to be part of this. Clint had been done when he was trying to be an ex-carny, he was done when he retired from SHIELD. He was done and thought he had been done. He didn't do the Fireflies thing like they did. Now he was in it.
They make it back to his apartment, up the flight of two stairs and into the door without too much fuss. The radio would be flicked on that was ran by FEDRA to hear about what the story to explain why a building was nuked.
❝ You know you're not as light as you to be, pigeon. ❞ He tries to be light, joke a little as he does deposit her down. Clint's hand stays at her shoulder, giving a tight squeeze and guiding her in.
❝ I'm sorry. ❞ He really was at a loss for words. Fuck, what was he suppose to do? What was he to say? Your parents are insane?! ❝ I promise you I'm gonna take care of ya. ❞ She probably doesn't know about how much he had wanted to give up on living after Kate got hot and Bobbi got bitten when she was still so small, maybe too small to remember them. Now he's just lost both Bucky and Nat in one go.
❝ It's- fuck, you know they- fuck. ❞ Maybe let the both of them process first before he has to figure out everything else. Clint feel his own eyes start to glisten with tears.
THIS COULDN'T BE HAPPENING. Her parents were the toughest, most amazing people in the whole world. They'd survived the impossible time and time again. The thought of them being gone...That was a concept she couldn't even fathom.
Ana shook her head, tears now falling freely while she clambered to get free from his hold. She needed to get to them. She needed to help them. She needed to do SOMETHING.
"No! No we have to do something. We have to go get them!" She pulled away from him, reaching out to the building where they had been. This wasn't real. She wasn't being pulled further and further away from her parents. They were coming. They were coming any minute now. They HAD to be.
Their found family had lost so much. They had strived to hold on while still trying to do what was right. Kate, Bobbi, now her parents. Her and Clint were all that was left. Her eyes stayed on that building, watching the flames get higher and higher as they got out of the vicinity as quickly as possible.
When she couldn't see the building any longer, she turned her face into Clint, burying her face in his chest, but her sobbing didn't cease. It wouldn't for some time still.

DAMN IT ALL TO HELL. EVERY LAST THING.
The world erupts into shit, the biggest shit that he's ever seen before and there's no coming back from that. A lot was lost and everyone had a hell of choice to hold onto what was left. Survive or die. Hold on or let go. Technically, he's living on the other choice.
The choice he hadn't made. As the infrastructure of the world started to fall swiftly as the Cordyceps outbreak was no longer containable, as whole cities were lost and a new government infrastructure came in its place. As everything about the world before came valueless and everything about the world now came to be the normal. Things were still falling apart and in that falling apart.
Clint lost people. Two of the most important people. Kate, adopted, shot. HIS FAULT. Bobbi, wife, bitten and put down. HIS FAULT. Of course, his ex-bio-scientist wife one more surprise for him when the Firefly scientist she had said could conduct research on her if she ever passed for THAT reason. What he found out about her, about what they were gonna have, that had pushed him to an edge that his best friends Natasha and Bucky pulled him back from. Barton family was gonna have one more.
How come they were lucky ones when they were the ones who had gotten themselves and Bobbi involved in this Firefly group? Telling him that he had to survive; that he hadn't lost everything. He had them, and their little Ana too. So, Clint was walked back into the other choice of survive. Maybe he shouldn't have thought so bitterly about Nat and Bucky's luck because it was only a matter of time before it ran out.
They knew it. He knew it. Clint still screamed at them about the damn suicide, how come they wouldn't let him die back than, and now he has to leave them behind to die? WHAT ARE NINJAS GONNA COME OUT AND BLOW YOU UP? Natasha's eyes had darted to Bucky and than something in the room. She knew something. I HATE THIS. Bucky even hugged him goodbye. I REALLY HATE THIS.
When they told him to take Ana and get out of town, it was with the heaviest heart he had felt in the years since Kate and Bobbi. DO NOT LOOK BACK. Clint's holding Ana's hand so tight, and there's a moment he remembers when he was a small child crying because he didn't want to go back to a bad situation.
Now here he is with Ana wanting to run back to a bad situation, and he knows why because her parents were amazing parents; even for all the trouble that they got all of them in. He never wanted to be part of any of this, even if he was more than capable. The three of them, four of them, hadn't exactly been the most normal people before all of this. SHIELD came to mind. It was in their blood, and Clint has a good guess that they probably taught Ana about a lot of that and than some. She's just a kid.
When they said GET OUT WITH ANA, Clint knew that meant way more than get out. Get far, so fay away, until he was certain they weren't tracked by FEDRA or Fireflies or anyone; than find out what Ana knew. So far, that he forgot what they were doing.
The building goes up in flames, a sound blast, and it's that stark reminder that all the QZs were still own by FEDRA, that any were that was civilized was controlled and if you were blemish you would be wiped out to keep everyone else safe. At least that last part was what they told people.
Those goes two more people that Clint loved. Clint feels his own tears want to well up, and they do but Uncle Clint still has Ana to be concerned about. I REALLY HATE YOU GUYS FOR THIS. He didn't hate them, they were the last of their family unit. From five to what could have been six to three to four and down to two.
❝ No, pigeon, we can't go back for them. ❞ He does give her any false hope that they got out, even if he wished they were more than human and did. Clint goes to pick her up, pull her away and figure out how they were getting out of this QZ and where they were going to next.
❝ Shh, it's not safe here anymore. ❞ He holds her so tight to his chest, and they need to at least get out of sight. Clint won't deny her the chance to cry but it's best to flee in the panic and chaos before the FEDRA soliders come to clean up the mess.
He starts to lift her up, Ana's not as little as she use to be and Clint does so with a grunt. Part of him does expect her to break out of this, to fight him on it, and he really hopes she just lets him be. He's got to get them back to his apartment and than work out the rest of the details.
He could go to the Fireflies, he probably should. That was Nat and Buck's scene, the agency they were running with after SHIELD all fell apart. Clint did some running for them, but he wouldn't go around wearing their pendants and definitely wouldn't call himself one of them.
EVERYTHING WAS MOVING A MILLION MILES A MINUTE, and Ana was feeling the panic from the dire situation. The clock was quickly ticking, FEDRA was on their way to where they were, and Bucky and Nat's first priority was getting Ana to safety. That was where uncle Clint came in.
They were secretive to Clint about why they needed to stay behind, something about tying up loose ends, leaving out that those loose ends, were ensuring that the information they gathered was safe. They had their fail safe in the form of their daughter. Natasha and Bucky never kept anything from her, and truth of the cause of the outbreak had been no different. It was vital information, that they needed to get to the right people as soon as possible. It didn't take FEDRA long to find the hole where they had gotten in and gotten the intel, but they knew where to find them, and they new how to silence them.
A bullet was too tricky with Natasha and Bucky, plus they wanted to leave a message, what happened when you messed with FEDRA, and allied with the Barnes family and those loyal to them and the Fireflies. As she was pulled out of the building that had served as their home, backpack on her back she saw the fog of her breath and pulled on Clint's hand.
"What are we doing? We need to go back for them!" She yelled back at her uncle as far as she was concerned, letting go of his hand and taking matters into her own hands, turning around and taking all of two steps back toward the building down the block, when they building went up in flames.
Ana stumbled back, taking a minute before it processed what was happening, what HAD happened. In a matter of seconds her expression moved from shock and confusion, to horror and heartache. "NO!" She ran for the building screaming for her parents before someone grabbed her, holding her back, but not her tears.
