So I've been working on an Olympics football Rhaenicent AU for a few weeks now (even before those pics of Emma and Olivia though I thank them for their service) prompted by this post. It's gonna be a bit of a mixed media AU with edits, social media profiles, and written parts.

Summary:

Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, former teammates on the King's Landing Dragons and best friends, face off against each other at the Olympics after Alicent's transfer to rival team Oldtown Greens (and subsequently the girls' falling out) twelve years prior. When Alicent is injured during a qualifications match and Rhaenyra can't stay away, it prompts a tentative rekindling of their relationship. Will they be able to move past the perceived betrayals between them? Will the two weeks of the Olympics be a powder keg for change? Will Otto Hightower ever not be a douchebag? It remains to be seen.

The profiles so far, with young Rhaenicent on their way to their first Olympics as teammates and older Rhaenicent on their way to the third Olympics since they were last there to compete as rivals. I hope to post the first chapter soon.

ok so i have been spending an unhealthy amount of time on a language learning app (i cant really recommend it much lmao). and i just now find out that "전지적 [ ] 시점" (Omniscient [ ]'s Viewpoint) is a popular Korean phrase? like well-used even if not as much now?

and that really surprised me cause I'd only ever heard that phrase in the ORV title. so now i really need someone fluent in korean to tell me. is ORV's korean title really cliched? does it give the vibe of a cliche action story? cause that would be so funny and actually really accurate to the story.

Dani, the Shadow: While Danny was MIA, Dani took up the mantle of Phantom. Later, she transferred the title back to Danny but acts as a frequent stand-in for him since they look so much alike.

Tucker, the Shield: The man in the chair can do more than hack. Tucker was the one to lay the groundwork the destruction of Fentonworks and constantly works to protect those dear to him.

Sam, the Sword: She's killed once, and she's willing to do it again for her best friends. Sam is the tip of the spear in their efforts to defend the Realms and the loudest when it comes to violence.

Jazz, the Scepter: Jazz would do anything to ensure Danny's safety and happiness. And she did. Jazz is now Clockwork's apprentice, and while the others are focused on the now, Jazz must be focused on the then.

I took a little break from "you still have my heart (i'll get it back)" to try and refresh the creative juices this morning, (I was really flagging) and wrote a little bit of a Sal/Tommy fic inspired by my tags on this post. It's also maybe a Tommy Begins type fic?

Anyway! Here's an unedited snippet of the first time Tommy meets Gerrard.

Firehouse 118’s Captain is Vincent Gerrard. He’s tall, and mean, and he approves of Tommy the second he walks in. “You serve?” Gerrard asks, somehow looming over Tommy despite them both standing and Gerrard being a few inches shorter. “Yes, sir. Army, pilot, full ten years.” Gerrard gives him an appraising look. “Left, did you? Of your own accord?” Gerrard assess Tommy, from top to bottom, eyes lingering as he does, and for a moment Tommy wonders what he’s looking for. He wonders if Gerrard can see what Thomas Sr. could see all those years ago, that led to evenings spent at church with the pastor, and his parents divorcing, and military academy, and ten years in the army. Tommy licks along the top of his mouth, in lieu of swallowing, and straightens up. Feet spread, back straight, arms looped behind, not making eye contact and staring ahead.  “Yes, sir. Honourably.” Gerrard hums. “Didn’t want to go back? We’re at war now, son.” Tommy takes a deep breath because he knows these questions. He has prepared for these questions. Tommy has been asked by his buddies if he was going to reenlist, they always need good pilots and Tommy is one of the best. “No, sir, my mother is unwell.” Tommy knows this isn’t a lie, but it feels like one anyway, and his heart beats erratically. “She needs me stateside and with both feet on the ground more than the country needs me in a helicopter over the desert.” Gerrard grunts, his moustache wiggles as he sniffs, and for a moment Tommy expects the man to be displeased. Except, the man surprises him. “Good.” Gerrard nods. “Family is important, and your mother will appreciate it, even if the country doesn’t.”

i've always wanted to write a pokemon ranger: guardian signs long fic where i play with the idea that ben and summer are just. incredibly codependent with each other.

figuring out how i think they first met, and which ranger bases they were stationed at prior to going to oblivia -- why they specifically were picked for the oblivia mission. their relation to past game characters.

i want a purple-prosey look into ben and summer's relationship with the air; being aerial rangers. how they met their initial staraptor partner pokemon. (also probably a look into early underwater training bc so much of that game goes underwater and like...that's not something you Just Do. you gotta be trained for that lol)

a deep dive into summer's time with rand and his family while ben is missing. i want lost of bonding with the whole family, leanne being a large help as summer navigates things. what it's like for the both of them to suddenly be without each other after years of basically being glued to the others side. (and how that played out as area rangers)

i've played with the idea of summer doing voice logs for the union, and so there'd be this block of dialogue where it's summer giving a quick recap of the day, with little confessions and emotional slip-ups in there. the occasional voice log being for ben instead of the union. eventually finding out that ben is no better in that regard, he's doing the same for her. the fear he has that his styler will eventually lose charge. it has a long battery life, but not infinite without the sun. the conditions of being held by the pinchers. i don't think blue eyes would have kept him in total squalor, but he wasn't comfortable, and i imagine it was dark and damp, given it was a submarine hold.

giving a proper timeline to things since as far as i remember, there was only ever one or two moments in the game that indicated a day had passed. making it go on over two or three months, instead of over a long afternoon.

going from a very unhealthy, "i don't know if i could live without you" to, "i lived without you for a while and it wasn't the end of the world. we still came back to each other."

but most importantly: refusing to make murph the constant butt of the joke because i LOVE HIM!!!!! he did nothing wrong!!!!! he's going to be just as much a mentor to summer and ben as any other character nO MORE murph slander!!!!!

Something that irks me when I remember and think about it, is how some movies and or series mess with the already stablished myths and mythologies just so they can fit to their story.

Let me explain further. The problem is not that said movie/serie has their interpretation of the Gods, Goddesses and myths, I myself have my own interpretation about them, BUT it is when they have to just forget about what CANNONICALLY happened because yes or because whatever reason.

And I know sometimes you can't just show the whole truth but like... Is it really necessary to just mess with an already solid story written thousand of years ago?

Because the Gods and Goddesses are always a representation of human nature, due to obviously being written by humans and they already had their personality stablished, so just mess them to create another personality and story for them is just that: A mess.

TL;DR: Watching sometimes mythologies and mythical characters being rewritten into two different people with the same name just so they fit into the story coveniently feels like canon vs fanon.

FFXIVWrite 2024 day 4: Reticent

The full thing I had in mind was too ambitious, and then the shortened version I had in mind was still too ambitious because I had a long day yesterday and I'm still recovering. So. I hope to expand on this later, but here's the first taste.

Also, I'd never written Oak as a character before, since they started out more as a vessel for playing the game, and only developed characterization more recently, so uh, enjoy!

The first thing he notices is the raw emotion, roiling and twisting and darkening the air around him. It’s scarily familiar; it settles around him, shaping the air, his gut and he remembers.

He turns. Slowly, cautiously, prolonging the inevitable.

And it’s him. It’s the Doctor. Standing poised at the far end of the field, scanning his surroundings like a trapped rabbit.

He holds his stance for a moment longer, feeling the snowflakes settle on his lashes. And he watches himself, through the warp of too many years.

The brown suit. (He loved that brown suit.) The stupid, stupid tennis shoes. The hair. That resolute, determined, heartbroken expression on his face, like he knows how heavy the world is and has made up his mind to carry it anyway. (He doesn’t know. Not back then.)

The Doctor turns and spots him, and then he’s crossing the field to meet him, vibrating with naked urgency. “You!” the Doctor calls. “Are you from around here, by any chance?”

The air is heavy with resonance, that unnerving double-echo that saturates every encounter with his past selves. He has to answer; he has to engage. It’s what he remembers doing, after all.
