Hi, I was wondering what your favorite Clexa fic is? To be honest I’m just looking for new ones to read and I know you are bound to have read some amazing ones! I’ve read every single one of yours and I love all of them so much, you have such a beautiful writing style (and your smut is so tastefully written too).

I gotta tell ya out of all the words in English language I never would've guessed Tasteful as one to describe my smut, but ya know what baby I'm gonna take it and keep 😌💕

If you're going for pure smutty fun then pm anything Nachos writes, but special hat-tip to MAGayA au just because. Sassy's EIB series and her Southern au fics hold a very dear place in my heart. I like The Little Pauna series, watching Clarke and Heda growing into an old married couple with their kids 🥺. What Heart's Ease Must Queens Neglect (queen Lexa makes me bite my fist). Anything by Dreamsaremywords and Aphroditeslaw. Literally anything they've put out is gonna be good I promise. Six by Lingeringlillies as well. If you're looking for more g!p/genderbent type stuff that isn't fetishy or hetero coded, SyngularitySyn is a great author both for their works and could probably rec you some great stories too! There's another one that's canon divergent where Clarke is an alpha and Lexa's an omega and it takes years for them to get together? I can't remember the name but it's very angsty and then sweet. Lexa dies as commander but is revived, but has still lost her title when Clarke finally sees her again? She has an injured leg in it? I know I know the name of this damn thing cuz I've read it like 4 times but I cannot for the life of me remember it now.

(I don't think I'll ever do better than this one. It is by far the darkest thing I've ever written, and honestly still my fave, even after I moved on from the Clexa fandom)

Two people. Children, teens, adults, against the world. They’re strangers, once. Then he breathes an “also,” and she weaves her fingers into his and their lives are never the same.

(This was a different style of writing, kind of an omniscient narrator, but I really liked it. We all needed some fluff.)

Hi there :-) What's your favourite of your own fics? What would you recommend to a reader and why?

Hello dear Anon! Sorry for the delay in answering.

To pick a favorite would be impossible, I love so many of my stories so much, which is why I've been writing the majority of them so many years. So I'm going to gush about my favorites, and why you should check them all out, haha.

To recommend to a reader, it would depend on what you enjoy.

I'm always pushing people to read Stardust. It's got so many good issues tied up in it, I feel like it could benefit people to read such a storyline, but, I know some people are not into the idea of transgender storylines, which, Stardust features pretty heavily. (In the same vein, there's also Screw Stardust, which is the same base storyline, only I've flipped who is trans, which is a WIP, but, I also love it so much)

If you want more canonverse Clexa, I just finished Depths of Love (which I assume is how you've found me, haha). It's unlike any of my other AUs, and has such an amazing idea. Like, I can not get over the storyline, and honestly, would love to see how one of the other talented writers in the fandom would write the same idea. I can not get over the fact it hasn't been done before, and a very special thanks to @sassymajesty for giving me the inspiration to finish it (three years later, but, oh well).

Then I'd say if you want soft and a lot of fluff, check out Softball. It's nowhere close to done, and I don't know if it will ever be, but it's such a soft idea of high school kids growing up and dealing with challenges and Clexa realizing their feelings for each other. It's honestly my most detailed fic, I have like, five pages worth of outlining for it, and a chapter by chapter guide set up, but it's just finding the time and the motivation to write it.

Then, if you're in the mood for some smut, I'd recommend Create Stardust. It's not really a fic, just a future of Screw Stardust (An AU of Stardust, haha) and it does feature Transgender Clarke, which, again, isn't for everybody, but, I think it's just so soft and one of my most beautifully written pieces. And, it's pretty hot, if I do say so myself, haha.

And then, (last rec, I swear) I would say Not the End if you want some angst. Lots of angst, and lots to come. It's a WIP, and nowhere close to done. Starts off full of confusion and hardships, and then realizes the truth, and trying to make sense and understand it from both sides. I don't think enough people start it with an open mind, and are too quick to hate Clarke, but, yeah. It's so fun writing this storyline and seeing how these complex characters deal with their impossible situations. It's not my best writing, but I'm enjoying it.

Then, last but not least, ones that are my favorites, but I wouldn't recommend as a reader (but I'm more than willing to gush about). Keep Holdin' On - This is angst city. It's so sad and I wrote it about 20 different times whenever I just needed a good cry. Not a deep story, but damn, it tugs at the heartstrings, well, mine at least. Not a lady - Game of Thrones AU. It's very different and very fun to write, but I have no idea how to tie my idea's together. I want Clarke to be so much more than a whore, but I have no idea how to make that fit into the GOT universe without changing everything about it. I've got a few ideas, but, I wouldn't recommend waiting around for me to figure it out, haha. Traitors - Harry Potter AU. I LOVE this idea. Griffins vs Woods. Griffins known for, well, Griffindor, and Woods are known for Slytherin, and Clexa coming in and BOTH of them 'ruining' their family's reputation? Clarke, who's always thought of herself as better than, always seen Slytherin as evil, slowly coming to realize, when she's placed into Slytherin, that maybe, things aren't always black and white? Poor baby Lexa, who was already the outcast in her family, giving them even more reason, now a Griffindor. GAH, just talking about it makes me wanna write it, honestly. I need to sit down and make a plan for a story, more than just them being little gay beans (or do I? Honestly, do I?)

Does Clarke keep stealing Lexa’s favorite orange sweater, much to Lexa’s annoyance? Does Clarke’s red scarf fly off in a blustering autumn breeze only to be returned to her by a striking stranger with chestnut hair and the greenest eyes she’s ever seen? Is Lexa new to town and bumps into the most gorgeous woman she’s ever seen while at the annual Fall Festival? Does Lexa’s neighbor, Clarke, offer to rake her leaves for her, and while Lexa is very particular about her lawn care, she can’t say no because the thought of watching Clarke do manual labor is far too tantalizing? Does Clarke hide in a pile of leaves, waiting patiently to scare Lexa?

Day 2 - Pumpkin Spice Pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin carving, pumpkin spice candles, all things pumpkins! 

Do Clarke and Lexa brush their hands as they reach for the perfect pumpkin in a pile of pumpkins? Does Clarke mercilessly tease Lexa for her exorbitant candle obsession but finally give in when she stumbles across the decadent scent of pumpkin spice candles? Is Lexa a barista who makes the best pumpkin spice latte on the planet and Clarke just has to stop by every day, for the latte of course, not the alluringly hot girl making it? Does Lexa bake Clarke, her new neighbor, pumpkin muffins as a welcome gift?

Day 3 - Monster Madness Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, graveyards, aliens, beasts, frankenstein, demogorgons, creatures!

Is Clarke a human suddenly caught up in a civil war between the reigning vampire queen, Lexa, and the werewolves who are trying to overthrow her? Does Clarke lose a bet and has to walk into a graveyard at night, but just as she’s about to totally chicken out, her crush shows up daring her to go with that infuriating eyebrow raise of hers? Are Clarke and Lexa star-crossed lovers, destined to be together but forced apart by ancient traditions? Is Lexa the captain of the USCSS Nostromo, and Clarke is the new Executive Officer who insists it’s a good idea to land on an alien planet? 

Day 4 - It’s Haunted For Sure  Haunted houses, ghosts, urban legends, myths, campfire tales, creepy slumber parties, a spooky thrift store find!

Does Scaredy Cat Clarke try to put on a brave face when her best friend (aka her crush) insists on telling the creepiest stories she’s ever heard at their annual Halloween sleepover? Do Clarke and Lexa attend a haunted house with their respective dates only to wind up clinging to each other instead? Does Clarke buy an old radio from a thrift store when Lexa had a bad feeling about it, only to find out it has a mind of its own? Is Clarke a makeup artist for a haunted house and has to get up close and personal to a VERY gorgeous Lexa? Do Lexa and Clarke buy a house from the 1800s that Lexa insists has charm only to find out the place is being haunted by the little old lady who used to live there? Day 5 - Magic & Mystery Spells, potions, broomsticks, black cats, wishes, curses, witches, magic, murder mystery parties, Clue, escape rooms, unsolved murders, serial killers!

Is Clarke suspicious that Lexa might be a witch because of her massive collection of candles? Does Clarke find an old photograph of a gorgeous woman hidden in a dusty trunk only to be sucked into said picture and meet the mysterious woman from another time? Is Lexa a true crime fanatic who lures her girlfriend on a tour of the most infamous crime scenes in the country? Does Clarke go to a murder mystery party super confident she’ll figure out the murderer before anyone else only to be completely thrown off her game by the annoyingly aloof and beautiful Ms. Scarlett, aka Lexa?

Day 6 - Party Time Costume party shenanigans, clubbing, bobbing for apples, Halloween bar crawl, cider tasting, nighttime festivities! 

Does grumpy Lexa get dragged to a Halloween bar crawl but really start to enjoy it when she keeps running into a progressively tipsier (re: flirtier) Clarke? Does Clarke start a micro-cidery with her friends and decide to launch it on Halloween night, which turns out to be the best idea ever when the reporter assigned to cover the grand opening is none other than her former college crush, Lexa Woods? Do they click at a costume party but have no idea what the other looks like because, duh, costumes? Does one drunkenly confess her love for the other because she’s dressed as Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman isn’t afraid of anything? 

Day 7 - Free Day Happy Halloween, everyone! It’s FREE DAY!

Hi. I don't know about y'all but when I decide that I don't like a story on ao3 and that I won't keep reading it, it's not so much the plot or the writing that I dislike, it is each character's actions and the sets of words used to describe them that bother me. For example, if I see that lexa is always referred to with words like strong, muscles or charismatic and Clarke is always referred to with sweet, soft or curves, I will exit the story. I kind of feel bad about it because I know they probably internalized that in the fandom and they don't even think about it when writing it, and the style and story might be good, but I just can't continue reading it. I feel guilty and like I am too picky and that I should just appreciate someone's hard work instead of reacting that way

Listen, this ask feels like it was ghost written by me and I actually had to question if I didn't have an absent episode and send this to myself!!!!

I am the exact same honestly.... which is why I barely even read clexa fics anymore. There are huge fics out there that have great writing but I just can't get past the character descriptions... I think if there were more fics where their descriptions and personalities matched more how I see them I would be less """"""annoyed""""" when trying to read the ones with the more popular ways the fandom views them, but since there aren't I just get tired and end up not reading them. I have read some of the more popular fics in the fandom and while yes, the writing is fucking good, I either don't finish it or end it not feeling particularly satisfied because I don't feel like I read a clexa fic. It's also the reason why I don't have any particular favorite writer's in the fandom unfortunately and why I take ages anytime someone asks me for a rec list of some sort. I will skip fics that have certain tags because after all, that's what they are there for and you have every right to skip them even if it has a million kudos and everyone praises it.

(About it being a internalized fandom thing.... Even has someone who doesn't enjoy overly feminine curvy "princess" Clarke or all muscles sporty all suits Lexa, I find myself second guessing myself any time i describe them as anything but that because it feels like I'm not describing them as the fandom expects them to be written - which it's a weird insecurity to have because so far I never had anyone say anything about it, neither here not on ao3 and in actuality it only got me some very fun anons to read and respond to!)

Fanfic is supposed to be fun to read and something for you to enjoy. I too feel like I'm overly picky with what I read but if I feel like I'm gonna force myself to read something I don't particularly enjoy then I'm not doing neither me nor the fic writer any favors. As long as you aren't leaving any negative comments on fics simply because you don't like someone's interpretation of a character, it's perfectly fine for you to decide you don't want to read something because of the way a character is being portrait and exit. There are fics out there that are badly written. And I'm sure someone put a lot of hard work into them too and has barely any interaction in it but that doesn't mean you are forced to read them - a fic having a big number of kudos on it and being well written doesn't change that!

This very non linear answer to say: read what you want or don't read what you don't want to read and don't feel like you are just being a picky little thing simply because you dislike the popular interpretation of characters. It happens in every fandom and you're no less right or wrong about your way of viewing clexa simply because your view of them doesn't match the popular fandom interpretation. If you are starting to feel guilty for not reading a certain type of fic or popular fics for what is supposed to be an hobby for you to enjoy (because that has happened to me too) I recommend blocking tags both here and while I don't think ao3 allows you to block tags you can filter them out I'm pretty sure!

This is probably the only message i’ll send you but I feel i have to say it anyway. THANK YOU. really thank you. I haven’t been in a good place for a while now and i’m still having a hard time. The hardest. A lot of times i think about having no point in all this and just give up. But please believe me when i tell you that your fics have been helping me feel even the littlest amount of joy and you have no idea how much that means to me. Each chapter gives me something to look forward to. And after asking someone for some clexa fic recs i found myself searching for all of them good ones. It seems so little but it’s giving me reason to be happy.

🥺 well thanks you lovely, and I'm very glad for that. And that you haven't given up. Don't ever give up. I may not know much but one thing I do know is that times will always be better. Even when it doesn't feel that way. The thing is, life and happiness, it really is in the moments. There's no destination or some point on the horizon when you'll stop and think "ah, now everything's great." That just doesn't happen. Situations change and ebb and flow. And looking for and waiting for that elusive moment? That's what leaves us feeling lost.

The point in all of this is the tiny things. The moments when we hear a good joke that makes you laugh or reading a fic that makes you smile. That feeling when you finish a project or feel fresh out of the shower or say something that makes someone feel good. When you enjoy your favorite food or do something that just plain makes you feel good. It sounds so fucking cheesy, but it really is the truth and it was such a hard thing for me to understand and accept when I was younger. The point and truth of happiness doesn't lay in the big picture, but in the small moments, and taking joy in those. And I'm really glad you're finding those little moments for yourself, and that I could help create something that could be one of them. i've been shamelessly rereading my old favorites and catching up on my to read list now that i'm taking time off school, so i'm not sure i'm very helpful with the newer stuff — not yet, anyway, because i've been looking for new things to read once i'm where i want to be with my reading. but just in case i'm reading something you're not, here you go!

between our love by @dreamsaremywords. you probably know this one because i mean, it's surrogacy au. it owns my entire heart despite how much it hurts it. clarke is the surrogate mother for costia and lexa's baby, but costia dies suddenly before they even find out she's pregnant. it has everything — tenderness, angst, sweet moments, heartaching ones, a baby. 

hearts of silver and gold by��sapphicstardust. it's royalty au! in medieval times!! forbidden love and friends to lovers!!! princess clarke is engaged to prince aden, who happens to be lexa's brother. he's a sweetheart and really wants to make clarke happy, but the woman is falling fast and hard for his sister. i have the softest spot for royalty au, and this is aching in all the right ways

i really thought i was following more on going stories, this is sHAMEFUL. if anyone has recs for newer stories, please please send them my way!!

You say it's hard to come into a new fandom because you're not a "moderately well known" writer there. You say people should leave more comments and kudos. And that's all true. But when was the last time you gave an unknown writer a chance, the last time you left a comment? In my experience the well known/popular writers rarely give anyone who's not well known the time of the day. Looking at your bookmark list, full of the same popular names when it comes to supercorp and clexa, I doubt you do.

that’s not rlly what i was saying about entering new fandoms I was more being annoying & complaining bc i was feeling whiny, it’s no ones fault except mine that im not deep in any other tumblr fandom communities I knew it wasn’t good analysis just wanted to b annoying for a moment

I’d encourage you to look through my bookmarks tag, bc while ya there are a lot of clexa & supercorp fics because those are my main fandoms for reading (they are also some of the largest f/f fandom fic communities on the internet, so there’s constantly new & amazing content there), but it is full of a bunch of other weird rarepairs and couples from lesser known shows & things that are not very well known

also if i get to the end of a fic & i like it i literally always comment! or at least I try to. i didn’t always used to do that but the more involved I’ve gotten in writing fic the more active I’ve been as a fic consumer. I don’t spend all my time reading fanfic, so it’s harder for me to find unknown gems, which is why I like to put out calls for other ppl to send me fic recs! Bc there are some fandoms I’m not deep in so I end up finding stuff people have already read. ive left comments on hundreds of fics and I follow tons of different writers on here to keep up with their work & posting schedules! idk for sure if this is true I guess, but I think I’ve commented on every fic that’s in that bookmark tag, & I usually add a little note in the bookmark too, & if I revisit a story I try to comment again. Even if it’s just a “still love this” I do that, so would love for the accusations & assumptions to cease lol

(also it isn’t like a bad thing to like work that other people also like — sometimes there’s a story that’s so good you have to bookmark it.)

My bookmark page is not representative of the amount of fic I read / kudos / comment on / enjoy! I don’t bookmark every fic I read & like, only WIPs I want to follow & things that really impacted me & blew me away, or things that gave me joy & I want to revisit some day. U cannot judge my fandom behavior on my bookmarks list alone (also those fics are all bangers so no h8 to those authors pls I literally love them). I try to have good fandom etiquette because that’s what I hope my readers would do too! idk if you’ve been following me for a while but I am pretty liberal about sharing fic recs & fanart on my own blog, like if I see creator work I like I always try to reshare. I don’t have very many followers but I don’t think that matters too much

sry obv I’m not perfect & don’t expect anyone else to b perfect so im sry if that’s how my words came across but it rlly is something fandom has lost since the boom of tumblr & fandom. idk sometimes I get comments or messages from ppl being like “I’ve read x y z stories of yours and I finally just had to comment” or “I’ve been reading fic for 5 years and have never commented before” and it’s like thank u! this is probably the ultimate fav. just the writing and the characterization and like the absolute spot on understanding on clarke and lexa’s personal relationship, the past vs present timeline and how it shows growth. like im a ho for this fic.

i love coldmackerel’s style of writing and this one takes the cake for me. serious but also humorous in just the right ways, especially considering this fic’s subject matter.

I just love modern aus so much ok and this one hits all the right buttons. the pining, the longing looks and touches and the way clarke and lexa’s friendship just evolves like it does. *pacha meme*

mmm the good angst, but also like very much in my preferred vein where its more clarke/lexa vs the world. Im surprised i didnt think to include this on that other rec list from a couple days ago.

you’re a never ending song in my soul by bapplejack - Elyza finds Alicia or maybe Alicia finds Elyza? It’s unclear but they’re stuck with each other because maybe they’re also soulmates but noooo that’s far too emotional they’re both allergic to emotion if they close their eyes maybe it’ll go away (two stupid teenagers are stupid together but there’s also zombies and Aden) Uncompleted Series but they don’t leave you on a cliff hanger.

Never Say Die by 10milestereo - listen I don’t know what to tell you it’s a lexark one shot there’s lexark and there’s zombies and Elyza calls Alicia a dumb pet name and Alicia gets annoyed it’s got everything. Completed.

the definition of winning (is flawed) by FloingMachines - Lexa is a POW, Clarke is her prisoner taker, prisoner-er, you know what there’s no good term for it but whatever's going on neither is very happy about it but they’re stuck with each other (or: in a post-apoc, post civil war America modern au, Clarke and Lexa find love with the person they least expect.) In Progress.

blood rush in the hazy glow by firetestsgold - Lexa is a local, Clarke is an upstart college kid trying a cool dive bar. Neither are happy with the other. Someone is about to get destroyed in pool. Completed.

I Wish (you Were Mine) by holcene - Lexa loves Costia. So much. Unfortunately she needs some help from Costia’s best friend, the ever annoying Clarke Griffin if she wants to get with the girl of her dreams. Completed.

Except You Love - this fic is beautiful. Bittersweet, so so so well written, the character development and characterization is to die for… It’s a fave of mine. And it will keep you busy for a while because the average chapter length is over 20k words (I know it keeps me busy, I still haven’t finished it - but I’m close!).

At the risk of being repetitive, everything by faithtastic, orangeyouglad8, Steklir, mopeytropey, DreamsAreMyWords, blindwire (Mystic Coffee!) is great.

The White Queen Running is complete and its sequel is almost done as well. Everything by this author (KL_Morgan) is 🤯 in the best possible way.

A Long Time Ago in The Future is a really beautiful take on the soulmates trope.

I’m always a sucker for great historical au’s so most ardently is also a fave.

in love and war and politics OF COURSE. I don’t even need to explain why.

funny story: I didn’t make the connection to theproseofnight, who wrote Except You Love, when I read Cherub (which really deserves a rec). It’s perhaps the most unique thing you’ll ever read on AO3 (or, at the very least, in the Clexa tag). So imagine my reaction when I found out that the same person wrote both fics, which are pretty much worlds apart. It’s like realizing that Tatiana Maslany plays ALL the clones. I was mind-blown. I I love it. I love both of them.

speaking of funny, nothing has ever made me laugh as much as Sweety Tweety.

Empath by RaspberryTree is also a very peculiar - and very sweet - fic.

And, ok, it’s not a multi chapter fic, but it’s over 20k words long, so I’m also recommending Gold, red, this one, too, a very sui generis work. It’s amazing.

breathe into my lips the life I do not have by @ur-the-puppy is definitely a favorite. 35k of ghost!Lexa falling in love with the newest resident of her house, our one and only Clarke Griffin

doing the impossible (with you) by snowandwolves. A time travel fic with Clarke basically being the goddess of death. Only two chapters, but 21k of amazing shit.

And for nostalgia reasons and also lots of fluff, The One Who's Fallen by The_Sarcastic_Dork. One of my very first clexa fics (a Wattpad read, actually, kind of crazy) and it's forever a favorite.

I have so many more that I adore and I'm kind of tempted to make a rec list now lmao.
