Trash-Talking the 2024 NCAA Tournament "Sweet Sixteen"
Now that we are past the first and heading head-long into the second weekend of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, some of you may be happy with your bracket, and some are lamenting the fact their brackets are so much smoldering wreckage. That would be me…Kentucky and Baylor on Monday Night? What the fuck was I thinking? I’m blaming low blood sugar. Excuses aside, and no matter which side of the…

Why ACC expansion, frankly, shocked me.
I know everyone looked at this and thought, "Oh this is a done deal. ESPN wants it. ESPN's deal with the ACC opens up for renegotiation should they drop below 14 full members. There are only 4 votes against this. Only one has to flip...It's a done deal."
I think something big and unexpected happened in the last couple of days to turn NC State into a yes vote.
I look at Florida State and I think they actually LIKE the ACC, they just want ESPN to pay all of the schools appropriately... ie say $45M per school with a little something something for Clemson and FSU that would allow them to blow TV money on NIL like the SEC and Big Ten schools are preparing to do.
ESPN isn't going to do that. They have the ACC schools locked in at less money than the Big 12 schools.
FSU makes less than UCF. Crazy.
ESPN looked at this and thought, we will pay $72M (number reported. It suggests an ACC payout is $24M and that ESPN will pay that for Stanford, Cal, and even SMU.) to the ACC if they take this trio. Stanford and Cal will take 50% over the next interval, staggered so they start at 1/4 shares. SMU came in agreeing to not taking a share for 5 years.
That would put roughly $50-60M in the ACC pocket to split as they see fit. Over 5 years, that would be $250-300M or split evenly $3.6-4.3M more each year for the 14 full members. An extra $18-21M overall.
I think the idea from ESPN's perspective was the ACC should give it to Clemson and FSU to allow them budgets that allow them to compete for national titles....to stay on par with the SEC and Big Ten.
Basically it was likely intended to be a "we aren't negotiating, here is the money to not kill the golden goose." payout.
I think FSU took it that way but the rest of the ACC did not.
Which gets you to an FSU no vote.
Now Clemson was probably more than happy to sit back and let FSU be the bad guy as Clemson quietly took 50% of the $50-60M. Clemson's stance was probably save the football golden goose, "Let's give 50% of it to the football champion and 50% to the football runner up." thinking that most years Clemson is one or the other.
FSU is often not, so this was probably a thorn to FSU.
UNC I think was thinking maybe to push the money to them or even just to block the move in order to end the conference sooner and allow them into the Big Ten.
NC State was the interesting one against it initially. It was suggested that NC State believes that they have the political support to force UNC to carry NC State into whatever conference they ultimately leave the SEC to join.
If true, that suggested NC State was going to back UNC until the end of time.
So I thought there just weren't the votes.
But then SMU bumped up the offer to 7 years with no TV share.
The discussion continued, but it didn't seem to be enough to get the vote to pass.
A story broke out that ESPN reached out to the Big 12 and asked them to consider adding Cal and Stanford as well as Oregon State and Washington State and ESPN would foot the bill.
I think this was a "Don't mess with us, ACC" move by ESPN, but it apparently was a toothless one.
The member schools of the Big 12 appear to have politely declined. (My suspicion is that the Big 8 schools abandoned by UT and OU remember the PAC totally shutting down any of their efforts to jump to the PAC over "academic concerns" and they likely blame it largely on Stanford and Cal.)
There was an interesting perspective that ACC schools might be leaning to vote it down because if a school like FSU left and paid a $120M exit fee and "appropriate value" to get the ACC to release their media rights (maybe as high as $600M), that $720M pie would be split 16 ways ($45M) instead of 13 ways ($55M).
Moreover, if ESPN were to reduce their payouts by $600M, that money would essentially go from the 3 new schools not having any of it, to having a equal share of that chunk.
But suddenly last night UNC made a very public declaration that they were a hard no vote. Why do you make that statement? I think it is pretty clear now that you make that statement to tell all the other no voters you will not be alone.
NC State flipped today. Why?
It could be the fact that reports suggest SMU extended their willingness to forego a tv share to 9 years. Maybe.
But I wonder....Did Duke and Wake Forest push back on the idea of NC State going with UNC to the Big Ten? Did they say there would be repercussions?
I think there is an interesting story there.
I am also surprised that no other schools became no votes.
I think in the finally tally Clemson appears to have flipped although they made a statement that suggested they would prefer ESPN to negotiate with them. No reason to be on record voting against Stanford if you lost the vote anyway.
The final arrangement suggests some of it will be awarded on a merit based arrangement (for example if you win the football national title you get $10M) but the bulk of it is being split equally.
What does that do? It still leaves ESPN on the hook for a conference where FSU and Clemson are going to become less competitive due to NIL money. It does allow all of the ACC schools to pocket ESPN's money and throw them the bird.

John Kettler: Chief of The unSUCCESSFULS Invisible Staff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John Kettler is out after only three (3) months on the job. No sympathy for anyone who partners with these two (2) bullies. You're either too lazy to read a book or maybe you like to help bullies.
Tumblr media
"Joshua lives with his wife in Santa Barbara, CA and holds an MBA from Clemson University with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and Innovation."¹
Richard Eden for Daily Mail: When the Duke of Sussex appointed Josh Kettler as his grandly titled chief of staff earlier this year, it was said that he was the perfect man to 'guide' Harry 'through his next phase'. However, the Daily Mail understands that Mr Kettler has suddenly quit his job after scarcely three months, amid much intrigue. Josh Kettler is no longer working for them,' a source in California told this newspaper today. The timing is a particular blow to Harry and his wife Meghan as Mr Kettler would have been expected to accompany them on their 'quasi-royal tour' of Colombia, which kicks off this week."
The total number the Sussexes have lost since they married in 2018 is said to be at least 18, with nine or more having left since they moved to California in 2020.
Mr Kettler was seen entering St Paul's Cathedral with the duke for the anniversary service, which was attended by figures including Harry's uncle, Earl Spencer, but no other members of the Royal Family.
Later that month, Mr Kettler was a key figure on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's three-day 'tour' of Nigeria and was by Harry's side as he met government officials in the West African country. His role on the visit was said to be a foretaste of what he would achieve in the future.

Seasoned in guiding C-suite functions, critical cross-functional program management, high-level strategy development, and board of directors / investor relationship management. Focused on bringing unparalleled products and experiences to customers while working in lockstep with leaders, executing on their vision.

Tommy Bowden
Tumblr media
Physique: Average Build Height: 5’ 9" (1.75 m)
Tommy Pearce Bowden (born July 10, 1954) is a former American football coach. He served as the head coach at Clemson University from 1999 until October 13, 2008. He is a son of Bobby Bowden, former head football coach of Florida State University, against whom he coached in games nicknamed the "Bowden Bowl." He is also a brother of Terry Bowden, who served as the head coach of Auburn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2nd on my list of the “Bowdens I want to fuck” behind his brother, Terry Bowden, Tommy is a member of the winningest family in the history of College Football with a total of 652 wins between himself, his brother Tommy, and his father Bobby; building programs and winning seem to be a part of his DNA. Fitting, since I've definitely spent a lot of DNA on these three.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bowden attended and played football for West Virginia University from 1972 through 1976. After spending several years as an assistant football coach at Florida State, Duke, Alabama, Kentucky, and Auburn Universities, Bowden became the head coach at Tulane University in 1997. In 1999, Tommy took the head coaching position at Clemson University. In that first season, the Tigers set or tied 41 school records, including 26 on offense. He was named Conference Coach of the Year in 1998, and ACC Coach of the year in both 1999 and 2003.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Married to Linda White, his high school sweetheart (awwww) and they have two children, Ryan and Lauren. Again, info I will conveniently forget. Since retiring from Clemson in 2008, Bowden has become one of the nation’s most sought after motivational speakers. So maybe I can hire him and motivate him into a good ass-pounding. Well, he would probably disagree but I'd give it a try.

Golden Bears Knock Out #2 Duke
Cal Advances To ACC Semifinals
DURHAM, N.C. – The California men's soccer team continued its late-season surge and success in the state of North Carolina on Sunday by upsetting second-ranked Duke 2-0 at Koskinen Stadium. The Golden Bears got two first-half goals – a Duke own goal and a brilliant Arik Duncan strike – and five saves from Marco Brougher in the victory.   Cal, which improved its record to 8-7-2, next plays seventh-ranked Clemson in the ACC semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. PT in Cary, North Carolina.   At the 1:58 mark, Cal forward Nonso Adimabua earned a free kick when he was fouled in midfield trying to corral Brougher's long goal kick. Forward Alfredo Ortiz served the free kick into the Duke box, Cal defender Kevin Carmichael headed the ball across the face of the goal and Duke midfielder Kenan Hot – trying to clear the ball while defending Cal's Wyatt Meyer – headed the ball into his own net.   The Bears continued to attack and, at 16:37, midfielder Kieran Bracken Serra sent a perfect ball to the top of the six-yard box, and the onrushing Duncan volleyed the ball into the back of the net.   Cal took its 2-0 lead into the break.   In the second half, the Bears weathered a storm of Duke offense, as the Blue Devils outshot Cal 10-2 in the final 45 minutes and 19-5 for the game. Brougher made three of his saves in the second half.   Brougher and Meyer came up big in the 76th minute, when Duke forward Ulfur Bjornsson had a chance to score on a breakaway. Meyer – the 2023 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year – recovered and bothered the Blue Devil enough to affect his shot, allowing Brougher to make an easy save. At 81:34, Brougher saved a deflected shot by Sol Arbib in what was Duke's last shot on goal in the game.
Cal has now won three straight after a difficult stretch of games where many of their best players were out with injury. The game before that stretch was a 1-0 upset victory at then-No. 1 Pitt. The common denominator during the win streak and in the victory over the Panthers is that all four results came against nationally ranked ACC opponents – No. 1 Pitt, No. 2 Duke, No. 14 North Carolina and No. 22 Stanford – on the road, where Cal is 5-4-0. The Bears are 3-3-2 at home.   "These just guys step across the line and become a different beast on the road," Cal head coach Leonard Griffin said. "We talked about being on the front foot from the start, and we were able to get after them early. Goals change games. They changed this one, and we were also able to keep ball out of the back of our net. Credit to our guys up front, but just as much credit goes to Kevin Carmichael, Marco Brougher, Wyatt Meyer, Santiago Hopkins and all the guys defending. And we had a great team effort from the bench.   "This is the team that we knew we could be. We wish we could take some of those early games back but can only control what's in front of us. The players have just bought in and believe we can play with anyone."

Pitt-Clemson preview: Panthers rebounding woes will be put to test against ACC's best
Pitt (12-5, 3-3 ACC) is in unfamiliar territory, riding a losing streak longer than anything it’s endured in more than two years — and the path back into the win column appears blocked by the ACC’s second-place team.
Clemson (14-4, 6-1 ACC) visits Pittsburgh for its lone regular-season meeting with the Panthers, who are desperate for a win.
Before Pitt and Clemson meet for a noon tip-off from Petersen Events Center on Saturday afternoon, with The CW set to broadcast the game, here's what you need to know.
Top storyline
The Panthers are riding a three-game losing streak that has lasted only 10 days at the time of writing but feels much longer, mainly because these losses have been brutal. They were utterly overwhelmed by Duke, wiped out in rebounding by Louisville, and suffocated defensively by Florida State until it was too late.

College Basketball Preview
Dukes gotta guy. 2 NIL deals is this going to be the guy who succeeds, or is he going to get fucked like the Clemson QB.
Schyer can't get psyched out, so and so never would, little emotional at the end. Push for Caple in works. Woj has gotta get outta there if he hasn't already, just be a HC which is the opposite of what a lot of coaches with good gigs should do.
Sometimes you can back fill a guy if a good coach leaves, sometimes the entire room changes.
They still call them NIL deals? I thought they were Zilch deals. Someone could break through, never know.
