FFXIVWrite 2024 Day 11 - Surrogate
Masterlist Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV Characters/Pairings: Leofard Myste & Warrior of Light Rating: Teen & Up Additional Notes: Takes place at during HW patch 3.5. Major spoilers for the Shadow of Mhach alliance raid questline. Ao3 Link
Lady Raimille. The picture painted by Stacia's tale was everything an orphaned child could want from a parent. Everything except that she'd passed on too soon — but not before giving her foster son one last gift.
The noblewoman’s real portrait hung above them, enshrined in Leofard’s quarters. Presiding over his affairs and his family; watching over the man himself. Moro'a knew that paintings like this cost a considerable sum to commission, and that taking care of them required specific knowledge and attention; unexpected obligations for a sky pirate.
But the painting gleamed, immaculately free of blemishes. “I had wondered as to the origin of his vessel's naming,” Cait Sith said softly, his voice touched with emotion. “‘Tis a most beautiful painting.”
Moro’a’s time in Ishgard had also taught him that portraits like this one were made to memorialise — a likeness captured in brushstrokes, preserved from time. Remember me as I was, in this moment. Remember what this person means to us. Situated where their loved ones could gaze upon them, and never forget.
I doubt I'll ever feel worthy to sit where he sat.
Throughout their adventures, Leofard had pretended as though the portrait wasn’t there, and it was all Moro’a had needed to know not to bring it up. He’d accepted it without judgement, without ever considering otherwise. What was he here for, if not to hide from ghosts and broken hearts; from memory?
But now that Stacia had told them what Leofard would never impart himself, the pieces that made up the leader of the Redbills had finally begun to click: why a man who prized freedom so highly would build his new home a stone's throw from the Holy See, and why the loss of his airship had made Leofard retreat into himself, like a creature seeking familiar refuge.
It seems she kept him safe until the very end, Utata had said, and Moro’a’s heart had clenched so tight that he thought it might shatter.
It wasn’t any of his business. The voidsent had been stopped, and Cait Sith had found a new home. His time with the Redbills was coming to a close. It’d been an engaging distraction, which was precisely what Moro’a had needed; there were no stones left to overturn, no more accidental revelations to be had. He would go his separate way, into the unknown, and then…
Later, as he was stowing the few essentials he’d brought into the manacutter, Moro’a heard footsteps approaching. He turned to see Leofard, who was already dressed in a clean set of clothes and red-tinted goggles. “I almost forgot,” the sky pirate said, as breezy as could be now as he held something out in his hand. A Redbill scarf.
“You didn’t have to,” Moro’a murmured, feeling a strange mixture of reluctance and guilt.
“And I say otherwise, Warrior. I reckon you’ve done more than you’ll ever need to to have earned this.” His hand stretched closer, and Moro’a considered refusing. He was ready to quit this place, to move on. I’m not who you think I am, he wanted to say.
Instead he found himself reaching out for the scarf, and tucking it in with the rest of his things.
If, after he'd said his farewells, his hand reached under the collar of his shirt to gently hold the necklace that rested against his chest, to remember, he was the only one who needed to know.
#ffxivwrite2024#ffxivwrite#kae scribbles#moro'a kihshimo#leofard myste#cait sith#hhhhhh this prompt is loaded with multiple meanings and i feel the need to yap about it#tag essay incoming#obviously it's about raimille; leofard's surrogate mother#and it's also about haurchefant if that wasn't already clear (in which case my bad)#except that moro'a's still deep in grief and coping by. not processing things beyond what he knows is necessary to keep going#so it's also about how this whole adventure is a replacement for what moro'a really needs to be doing; a temporary reprieve#there's the moment moro'a realises what raimille means to leofard and what this almost does to him#he doesn't acknowledge it here but it's because he had a surrogate parent of his own#well sort of#moro was his friend and confidant and inspiration; she nurtured his interest in the world beyond their own when he was a kid#she's the reason he went to eorzea when hell broke loose in their little part of corvos and why he's an adventurer at all#he doesn't know if she's dead; he has no idea what happened to her after leaving his clan#and so he isn't thinking of her here; partly because he's trying not to#but the feelings are still there; buried and waiting to be torn open (that happens in stormblood)#ig if circumstances had been a little different moro'a and leofard may have wound up becoming closer a lot sooner????#but that isn't what happened lol#last thing more of an extra note: the necklace is precious to moro'a and what ties a lot of this together#it was originally a gift from moro which was lost in the sea of clouds after moro'a rescued emmanellain from the vundu#after which haurchefant took it upon himself to replace the necklace by matching the original gemstones as closely as he could#the necklace represents the two people moro'a loved most. after taking up goldsmithing he starts to add more pendants for others#starting with ysayle and mide#okkkkk bye

The Dangers Of Romanticizing Mental Illness And Abuse
Colleen is an author and Booktok sensation whose work outsold the Bible this year.
I was a fan of Coho YA books when I  was younger. She wrote teen characters, so it made sense some of the male and female characters were so immature in their relationships. They'd fumble things but that was okay because they were young characters.
Her writing was simple and they were fast to get through. But as soon my frontal lobe fully developed and she began to write about adult characters—I was out.
I remember one called Without Merit, it's about a depressed teen, and her “quirky” family. This family included a mentally ill wife whom the main character's father kept in the basement while he had a girlfriend on the side.
He’d occasionally visit his wife for relations, and she'd cook him a special homemade meal. So he got assault a woman who wasn't well enough to consent, and had a nice home-cooked meal at the same time.
Don't worry, there was plenty of racism, ableism, biphobia, sexual assault, and mishandled PTSD too.
In another Coho book, Ends with Us, the abusive male character pretty much acts like every other Coho male lead—but hits the female main sometimes.
Her male has gotten a lot of flack over the years with good reason. They're all tall, ridiculously good-looking, and have absolutely no respect for their love interests' autonomy or set boundaries.
Dreamy things Coho male leads have done:
On November 9, burns down the house of his love interest
In Verity, a husband suffocates his mentally and physically ill wife
In Slammed, a high school teacher dates his student

"Here’s what we know about Julia Felix: she lived in Pompeii from at least 62 CE. She was possibly illegitimate but was definitely not a member of the social and cultural elite. She worked for a living setting up and running a very interesting business and, by 79 CE, she had planned to shift her focus from managing a business to owning property. We know all these things because twentieth-century excavations at her business uncovered an advert, carved in stone and attached to the external wall of her huge building. It reads:
"To rent for the period of five years from the thirteenth day of next August to the thirteenth day of the sixth August, the Venus Bath fitted for the nogentium, shops with living quarters over the shops, apartments on the second floor located in the building of Julia Felix, daughter of Spurius. At the end of five years, the agreement is terminated."
This find illuminated the building it was attached to, bringing what otherwise looked like a very large anonymous domestic house into dazzling focus. With this description of the purpose of each room written by the owner herself, archaeologists and historians could see the site through a whole new lens and they realised that they had discovered a Roman entertainment space for the working middle classes. It is, so far, a completely unique find and it is magnificent. It offers us, as modern viewers, two amazing things: a little glimpse into the lives of the commercial classes of the Roman Empire who are so often completely and utterly invisible, and a brutal reminder that so much of what we ‘know’ about Roman women in the Roman world comes from rules concerning only the most elite.
We’ll do that second part first, because it’s the least fun. Roman written and legal sources are pretty universal in their agreement that although women could own property, they could not control it; they had no legal rights, could not make contracts and were to be treated as minors by the legal system for their entire lives. In order to buy or sell property women required a male guardian to oversee and sign off on any transactions. This is a basic truism of women in the Roman Empire, repeated ad nauseum by sources both ancient and modern including me, and it is undermined by Julia Felix’s rental notice.
The rental ad makes it pretty clear that Julia Felix is the owner-operator of a business complex including public baths, shops and apartments (there’s more too, as we’ll see), and she doesn’t seem to require anyone else to help her rent it out. She names her father – sort of; ‘Spurius’ might just mean that she is illegitimate – but this is effectively a surname, a personal identifier to differentiate her from other Julia Felixes in the area. It doesn’t mean her father was involved. Furthermore, the use of her father’s name as an identifier suggests that Julia didn’t have a husband and was either unmarried or widowed in 79 CE. The strong implication of her advert is that Julia Felix was an independent lady, a honey making money and a momma profiting dollars who could truthfully throw her hands up to Destiny’s Child.
Tumblr media
We will never know if Julia escaped the flames and choking ash of 79 CE, fleeing as it swallowed her business and her home, but one discovery, made on 28 January 1952, suggests that she didn’t. The archaeologists, led by Amedeo Maiuri, uncovered on that day the skeleton of a woman who had fallen while running across the garden during the disaster. It’s clear this fallen woman was well off, because she was wearing a lot of gold jewellery. She carried four gold half-hoop earrings and wore four gold rings. Two of these rings were particularly expensive; both contained a red carnelian gem, one carved with a figure of Mercury, the other with an eagle. Around her neck she wore a necklace of gold filigree, dotted with ten pearls and hung with a green pendant. Someone stole both the necklace and earrings from the Pompeii Antiquarium in 1975 and no one, somehow, had ever bothered to photograph them so all we have are descriptions but the rings that survive are fine and expensive. The woman who wore them – was wearing them when she died – had real money to buy these objects and the woman who wore them did'nt leave Pompei in time.
Moreover, when she was found it was clear that at the moment of her death she was heading not towards the street or towards safety, but towards the shrine to Isis in the garden where all the most valuable possessions were kept. The valuable possessions that Julia Felix grafted for and maybe couldn’t bear to leave behind. There’s no way to tell whether this skeleton is Julia Felix, whether these bones once stood and looked at the plots of land Julia bought and made plans, or whether they belong to a looter or a chancer or someone just caught out. But it’s nice to pretend that Julia Felix, who shaped the city’s roads around her dream and offered respite and luxury to workers and made a tonne of money doing it, died and was buried with the place that still bears her name."

We can't be friends
Gojo x Reader Summary: You decided to erase Gojo from your memory.
Tumblr media
“Who is Gojo Satoru to you?”
You shift uncomfortably in your seat, before giving the doctor a tight-lipped smile. “W-we were together for 6 years.”
He’s no one important really, just the love of your life.
There has been an on-going trend all over the world— technology has upgraded enough that you can erase someone entirely out of your memory, as if they’ve never existed. If they do, it wasn’t like how you knew them.
You weren’t sure what dragged you in this clinic with all of the most important things that remind you of him. Maybe it was the way he ignored you like the plague, the way the familiarity in his eyes disappeared just earlier last week when he spoke to you so freely like you’ve never been together. It was clear that he got his memory of you erased after that incident. You were just another colleague. Perhaps, the pain in your heart is too much to handle.
You don’t remember the way to the clinic that much. It was a surprise you even got there in one piece considering you were sobbing the whole way there. So even if you aren’t entirely sure whether you’re ready to let go of Satoru, you signed the consent form anyway.
If he’s got you erased completely from your life, then what’s the point of living in hell remembering him? You didn’t want to mourn for someone alive and well.
You never really understood why he left because everything was just working out between the two of you. Satoru provided you with no explanation and packed up his things to leave you behind to your own devices. You almost wanted to back out when you started reminiscing vividly of everything you once shared with him.
You remembered falling in love with him, how it feels like the first day of spring, how his kisses taste like daylight. How he squeezes your hand three times before you part ways for a mission.  How he holds you like you’re the only thing that matters in his world. How it was always you and him against the world, him making you laugh while you tended to his wounds. He would tell you that everything would be okay because he has you and only you.
The bad outweighed the good that you had forgotten that loving him and being loved with him is something that you never wanted to forget, even if your relationship with him crashed and burned. You don’t want him to be a stranger you can’t recognize anymore.
But it had already been done and everything faded into nothingness as you try to grasp with whatever you have left of him.
-.-
You have been working with Gojo for quite some time now, maybe about six years. But you’ve never directly initiated conversations with him outside work. He’s the only one you don’t know much about in Jujutsu High. Today is no different as you’re waiting with him in the clinic for your mutual friend Shoko.
“That’s a beautiful necklace you have there.” He acknowledges you for the first time since you got there. Even if you’re just a few meters away, he doesn’t talk to you. You find that a little bit weird because everyone tells you that he’s obnoxious and loud. Somehow with you, he’s always quiet.
You didn’t remember much of how you got the necklace. You figured that the reason why Gojo’s asking about it is because it matches the color of his eyes. There was a hazy memory though— you were crying, telling a doctor to ‘let me keep it, please. Just this one.’ but you didn’t think much of it. Maybe it was all a dream.
You responded with a laugh before toying with the pendant of the necklace. “Yeah, It was a gift to me.”
“Oh?” He looked at you through his glasses, his intense gaze making you feel a little nervous. “Mind telling me who?”
“I forgot.” You replied,  slowly relaxing in your seat while looking around at Shoko’s clinic. He nodded at you, a small smile adorning his lips and he didn’t say anything more.
You missed the way his eyes linger on you for a moment before putting back his blindfold on or the apologetic look that Shoko gave him before he leaves.
“So, who’s Gojo Satoru to you?”
“He’s the strongest of course.”
But to him, you’re still his everything—because he didn’t really remove you from his memory. Maybe if he was braver, you’d remember him.

A rose quartz necklace is a stunning piece of jewelry made from rose quartz, a pink-hued crystal known for its beauty and metaphysical properties. This necklace not only serves as a fashionable accessory but also carries a rich history and symbolic significance. Rose quartz has been cherished for thousands of years, dating back to ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Greeks, who believed in its healing powers and ability to attract love. Today, it remains a popular choice for jewelry, symbolizing unconditional love and emotional healing.Rose quartz is a type of quartz crystal characterized by its delicate pink color, ranging from pale blush to deeper hues. It is composed primarily of silicon dioxide and gets its color from trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese

Frido's Princesse II
Pernille Harder x Toddler!Reader
Fridolina Rolfö x Toddler!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: Frido moves to Wolfsburg
Tumblr media
The switch from Bayern to Wolfsburg wasn't the easiest decision in the world but it wasn't the hardest either.
Bayern was good, very good but Wolfsburg (apart from their league titles) had one thing they didn't have.
A happy little toddler with Eriksson features and Harder attitude.
"Well, hello, princesse," Frido coos as you come toddling over to her," Oh! Are those your toys?!"
"Girl-swan!" You say," Girl-moose!" You hold up your toys to her, shaking them around a little bit as you come closer into Frido's arms.
"Little miss was very excited to hear that you'd signed," Pernille says in amusement as you babble to Frido nonsensically," She really wants a new shirt to add to her little collection."
"Is that right?" Frido gets up from her crouched position, bouncing you on her hip," You want my new shirt, huh? Is that it?"
You giggle with every bounce, a wide smile splitting your face as Frido refuses to relinquish her hold on you.
"You know," Pernille says dryly," You're going to have to give her back at some point."
"Never!" Frido declares, holding you a little closer as your hands grab at the necklace around her neck," I never see her. She barely comes to camp with Magda. I'm starved of y/n time."
She gently wrestles the pendant from your hand when you attempt to put it in your mouth.
"You're her favourite," Pernille says as they walk," She leaves Denmark camp, comes back and remembers no one. She'd spot you from a mile away."
Frido's smile only widens and she cuddles you a bit closer. You smile too, rubbing your cheek against hers as you play with your toys.
"She knows a good player when she sees one," Frido teases, hefting you up higher on her hip as you all head out onto the pitch.
It's fairly easy to settle in at Wolfsburg.
Football is an easy thing to settle into again. It's familiar and normal and bucket loads more fun now that there's a tiny little cheerleader on the sidelines to support her.
"Looking good!" Frido cheers as you toddle over in her new Wolfsburg jersey, tugging at the collar in thought.
"Leave it alone," Pernille warns you and you huff.
"Itchy," You say and Pernille rolls her eyes.
"It's not itchy. You didn't think it was itchy yesterday."
"Itchy!" You insist, tugging at it again.
"Maybe it is itchy," Frido says, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth," She looks uncomfortable."
You bob your head up and down, parroting back your aunt's words, sounding it out. "Un-com-for-table."
Pernille is still not convinced. "Uh-huh. Well, if it's so uncomfortable what would you want to wear instead?"
A smile splits your face open. "Sweden!"
"Oh, yeah!" Frido agrees, nodding her head," Let's put her in my Sweden jersey!"
Pernille laughs, shaking her head as she kneels down to your level. "You know how I feel about those Sweden jerseys. It's Morsa's jersey or nothing."
"Frido!"
"No. We can get you a Morsa jersey from your bag if you really want Sweden but we've got so many Denmark jerseys you can choose from!"
Everyday, Pernille packs a spare bag for you.
You love wearing your football shirts but chop and change your opinions so often that you could leave the house in one and in the space of a short car ride, decide you want another.
"Frido!" You insist again, stamping your foot and Frido has to smother her laughter.
"We don't have a Frido shirt in your bag," Pernille says, hoping that will make you drop it.
She much prefers you in a Denmark jersey. She goes out of her way to buy you a new one whenever it drops but flat out refuses to do the same for Sweden unless Magda insists, often leaving it up to her girlfriend to get one for you.
Frido clears her throat, a small smile on her face.
"No," Pernille says," Don't tell me you-?"
Frido shurgs. "I think it's a crime she only has Magda's Sweden shirt."
You whip your head around excitedly. "Frido Sweden?"
"Do you want to wear my Sweden shirt?" She teases," I bought one just for you."
You look back at Pernille, tugging at the collar of your shirt. "Itchy?"
She sighs, admitting defeat finally. "Fine. Go and get Frido's Sweden jersey."
You don't take it off until the next day.
