sorry to say but the maker-fledgling/parent-child relationship dynamics make DM so much juicier. and i don't mean that in a kinky way in the slightest i mean it's insane to be adamant about never having a child for 500 years, break that vow on a whim and then be a deadbeat dad for a bit. and also on the more lighthearted and sappy side of things it's really interesting for a dying man in his 70s to be given another shot at life, with eternity ahead of him and the power of an ancient in his veins to inherit over the course of that eternity. idk idk! it's just neat.

When the first half of the novel was adapted for season one, Louis was consistently made more instrumental to the events of the story; giving greater consent to becoming a vampire, bringing Claudia to Rue Royale, heavy-heartedly participating in the murder plot, and ultimately ensuring that said plan failed. It is a compromised agency which Louis intermittently, and often simultaneously, feels caged and protected by. Altering the original novel this way not only centres Louis more firmly within the story, but further elevates themes of power, narrative control, and the complexity of truth. As this pattern is doubtlessly going to continue in the upcoming season, it is all too plausible that Louis will be given a greater role in the trial and Claudia’s subsequent death. Perhaps when cross examined by a sneering Santiago, knowing that everything depends on what he says next, Louis fails yet again to convincingly lie. Perhaps what seals his and Claudia’s fate is the culmination of years of bottled resentment and hurt between the pair (“It’s never been about me!”) finally exploding before a baying crowd. Perhaps Louis intended to protect Claudia by making a false confession that would damn himself, but was unable to say that he desired Lestat dead while his former lover looks on. However the trial ultimately plays out, the intense grief and shame that Louis displayed when speaking about Claudia in the first season shows that he still blames himself for what happened.

I have to wonder, if Madeleine and Louis could feel each other, could the same be said about Claudia and Lestat? Or Louis and Lestat?

Or did the sense of being able to feel each other disappear after they thought Lestat was dead? Claudia's rage alone could have been enough to cover up the feeling. Louis's own hatred of Lestat, mixed with his guilt and love for him anyway, could have clouded it as well.

But if they had been able to feel him, would they have known he was in Paris? Would it have been enough for them to sense the danger and to get away? And, most importantly, would that have been enough to keep Claudia and Madeleine alive?

tldr: they might just guillotine Madeleine and Claudia, saw the bits together, possibly even make a spectacle of it on stage, throw the unsuccessful horror in the sun and out of its misery

for claudia, womanhood and being with men are deeply entwined, both because womanhood = adulthood and adulthood = sexuality and because of more specfically gendered assumptions. she's the one who says "housewife." the power of the idea that to be a woman is to be desired by men and to be desired by men is to be a woman and that same-gender relationships are on some level imitations of heterosexual models is potent and they're all swimming in it. now that we've established this let's have a roundtable discussion about what complexes she'd develop if she liked a woman

This is not a response to any specific post because I've seen so many of them (and I don't remember any specific post(s), I just know I've seen this take), but like I don't really understand why there are people who think Claudia healing Soren was some kind of selfish act done because she wanted it and didn't care about what Soren wanted or whatever. Soren, throughout the entire show up to that point, prides himself on his physical capabilities. He's always on the move, he's the captain of the Crownguard (also something he's proud of), etc. Also I don't think there's anything Soren says to indicate he genuinely is okay with being unable to move.

Like there are plenty of things to maybe analyze/criticize about Claudia there, but it's really hard to get where "Claudia is just being selfish" from, in that specific situation.

I mean the only point I can maybe see toward it is that she doesn't ask Soren directly what he wants. But idk it feels kind of weird to see someone injured and be like "Hey are you okay with this?" while they're clearly upset about it. Plus Soren has been in her life since the beginning, so there's some extra understanding there that would be different than if it were anyone else. (I do think she should have given him some sort of heads up before actually doing the spell, but I don't think that equates to not caring about what he wants.)

Like idk I'm always open to hearing other opinions (if calmly/respectfully discussed), but I find it really confusing.

Pendulum in my head swinging between Armand was willing to kill Louis because he thought he couldn't have him in the way he wanted and Armand didn't plan to kill Louis, but was willing to break him in order to have him in the way he wanted.

Claudia's always unwanted and abused and finally she has something that gives her some hope and she has a friend and it could be something more but the guy who's illegally fucking her adoptive father says no. Just like the last guy fucking her adoptive father said no. "You have to stay so I can be with him" well fuck him. She would never be free until Louis died but even then she still looks 14. Eternally 14. God this story makes me want to rip my teeth out

Claudia sighs in front of the Undertaker's desk

"Okay, I run out of jokes, but I really need that information. What do you need from me? I have only..." she looked through secret pockets in her dress "A cookie stolen from the kitchen behind Tanaka's back, a new comb and a thin knife I use for opening letters and criminal throats. Say something, I'm going to do anything. Maybe you need a braid? I'm a very good in braiding hair." she joked.

Well, she was a little desperated. The Queen demanded results and the Countess felt like a dog chasing it's own tail.

Undertaker momentarily laughed but not enough for it to count as payment for such important information. He agreed to the braid, though he didn't think this would provide enough mirth, either.

Claudia picked up the comb but then thought better and set it back down. While Undertaker watched with keen interest, Claudia took up the knife and meticulously cut little slots out, about a third the width, from the stolen biscuit. After a few minutes, she'd turned the biscuit into a crude sort of comb.

"I'm going to comb your hair with this, before braiding."

"Wha-- heh heh... okayyyy...."

She tried to brush his hair with the fragile makeshift comb, but it fell apart, leaving crumbs all over the right side of his hair and face. Undertaker lifted a hand to wipe away crumbs, but she stopped him.

"Leave it."

"Now wait just a moment, Lady Phantomhive--" but he stopped trying to clear away the mess. And started to giggle as Claudia began braiding his hair.

"The braid has trapped the crumbs!"

"Yes, and you giggled. Where's the information I came for?"

"It's still not enough", as he slowly eyed her up and down. "What else have you got hidden away under there... under all those layers?"

Claudia took in a quick breath but said nothing just yet. Her shocked expression gradually gave way to a wry smile, as she reached for a button on her traveling coat.

Then she said "I thought you'd never ask," and it was Undertaker's turn to look surprised.

I've been a third all my life. Not saying that to fight, just saying that it's true. I feel like I get to pick one thing for myself, and it's her. A weird white lady I met by happenstance.

♡ — THERE'S A MOMENT OF SILENCE SHARED BETWEEN THE TWO, almost as if he had to take the time to register what the other had said, but once it finally does... Koui can't help the rather large smile that begins to spread across his features. That's right, Claudia was his family now. Being with Vincent had assured such a thing after all, which meant that the original little family of six was now beginning to grow that much bigger. With how things were going, it wouldn't be much longer until his siblings found someone to fall in love with themselves. That truly would be the most favorable outcome.

♡ — "I suppose that you have a point there..." There's a small nod of his head when he speaks, FOLLOWED BY A LIGHT LAUGH. "If that's the case... then you can help me take care of the children. Surely you can change a few diapers, right~?" He claps his hands in a pleading manner as he tilts his head slightly to the side, then quickly lifting his youngest child into his arms before handing him outward towards the female.
