it's kind of funny how tamlin stated there was no such thing as a high lady (because there still isn't; the magic has never chosen a woman and it is just a title) but as his wife, feyre would have been doing more for the spring court as its lady than she currently does as High Lady of the night court

"I thought we got rooms to ourselves," said Teppic.
Chidder, who had laid claim to the least exposed bed in the whole refrigerator, nodded at him.
"Later on," he said. He lay back, and winced. "Do they sharpen these springs, do you reckon?"
Teppic said nothing. The bed was in fact rather more comfortable than the one he'd slept in at home. His parents, being high born, naturally tolerated conditions for their children which would have been rejected out of hand by destitute sandflies.

h-how do you ever finish any of your work? genuine question because you seem to be productive despite your agreste syndrome and I need to learn your ways. but also how do you ever finish any of your work
unclear. last night i stayed up and finished a report worth 25% of my grade at about 5am, arrived on time for my 9am lecture, and spent about half of it zoned out while thinking about seventeen year old emilie agreste. and i was one of the most active participants in the class discussion

People sleeping on this hypothetical tbh.
Oh, First King you grump and unaware old fart. You have no idea how scary and cool you look to these kids <33
Notes n stuff below cut:
I get all the jokes about FK being a zombie and evil n stuff, but like, not really?? He's just the FIRST KING OF THE GLADE that's all. He's probably been unjustly necromanced into today's world when he was just chilling with being dead. He would be the last thing from evil. Maybe kinda rude to other species, but that's normal for older people.
Idk, I just want grandpas in the world who actually want to help care and raise the next generation (cuz peepaw Polokus is doing daedally-shit)
Since I'm self-indulgent and biased to my own ideas, I had this silly idea that when FK was resurrected, he and Markus (the name for the Grand Minumus always hanging with Rayman for me), got into some arguments about just general stuff regarding the Glade and it's management. It might've gotten violent, and this got FK banished to the Livid Dead for a couple years, hanging out in the upper levels with Romeo, Shadi, and Goth (kinda).
When Big Mama found him there, she quickly brought him back to the surface and showed the Fairy Council. Betilla is very conflicted about him being back (cuz daddy issues), but she makes a decree that nothing harmful shall be bestowed upon him. So, he can do whatever without being sent back down to the Livid Dead.
Now, onto the school-related parts:
FK has a had a liking for kids ever since he was known as Aurthr Grandur (shameless The Sacred Dream plug sorry-not-sorry). So, when he was allowed back into the royal ranks, he began basically being everyone's royal babysitter when he wasn't listening in on Fairy Council meetings. That's where someone proposed for him to be a teacher, to which he took up the offer.
History has a tendency to be kinda skewed in the Glade, often neglecting the stuff predating Rayman and the rise of the Limbless race along with every other group in the Glade. Stuff that FK went through first-hand. He was not really vibing with the lack of diversity in the schooling.
As the magic school's history teacher, he always makes an effort to share all kind of history, not just Rayman's. This consists of every kind of creature in the Glade and of course his own. He even talks about the fairies as "kids" on occasion too. He is very well-liked amongst his students of all ages. Also, he doesn't give homework and does live-acting demonstrations of certain events with crazy swordsmanship, so bonus points there.
Many adults were wary about what they thought to be a nightmare teaching their kids but grew to appreciate him more b/c of his old-school "fuck around and find out" methods of teaching and discipline. Kids got better when in his class, which was something not that seen prior to him.
And in the background, he tutors students that show an interest in hand-to-hand combat. He loves seeing younger people actually using sharp weapons and learning the powerful method of channeling magic. He's an actually good PE teacher, I always thought those weren't real
Here is his full drip:
Enjoy the essay and have a good one fellas ✌️✌️✌️✌️

Something that frustrates me whenever I watch or listen to British media is that I know there's a wealth of information about people's class and background encoded into their accents, but I can't catch most of it because I wasn't raised in a situation where making those distinctions mattered. It's like something being lost in translation even though it's still English. There are Layers here and I am missing them.

funny that in a story abt differences between species and the struggle to understand one another there are a few human characters with almost 1:1 exact peers (laios and toshiro, izutsumi and tade, toshiro and hien) that are the exact same age as them and in very similar positions. Serves as an interesting counterpoint to kabru and marcilles why long lived races and short lived races cannot understand each other : these three struggle to understand each other too lmao.

Hi Pheo, I'm curious about the social structure of Platius, you talked about the nobles and the council and the power struggle between them and the Crown but is there a bourgeois class? Or do exist rich commoners who have enough political/economic power or popularity with the people, to start arousing interest/concern in the nobles or the crown?
It's more of like Plaithus has a total lack of a "lower class." No one in Plaithus is really poor-- the only "exception" to this are the urchins in the city, like MC, but they tend to live on the streets on purpose as a means of avoiding the orphanages (and their rather strict, militaristic policies).
The main strain between the Council/Crown + general public has to do with finance-- Plaithus is ruled by two things: agriculture + mining. Plaithus suffers incredibly harsh, difficult winters, and most of their food comes from external merchant families who send crops to the capital of Levont come late fall. Council members are keen to take over this section of the market, as it would give them significant control over both the Merchant Guilds, the entirety of Plaithus, + the Crown itself. To accomplish this, they've been creating new tariffs and taxes in an attempt to weaken the merchants and slowly take over. Naturally, the public isn't very appreciative of this.
All of this is to say, it's a one sided conflict. The public was never a threat to the Crown-- the Council just disliked them because they stood in the way of the Council gaining control over the Crown themselves.

not to be about opera again but to be about opera again. as an art form it has the reputation of being super stuffy and something for snobs who don't know how to have fun only but honestly this was one of, perhaps even THE main theatrical entertainment for centuries. i wish people knew how hard these things can go and how engaging they can be. like characters kill and die and fight wars and (almost) commit human sacrifice left and right. characters fall in love they mourn they're ecstatic they cry they're furious it's an extremely dramatic and emotional art form! and i understand that opera does not appear approachable bc of the general conventions of the art form but i promise old works can be fun and engaging if you go watch them with some preparation beforehand (reading the libretto helps) - not to mention not all operas are old bc there are so many modern operas which engage with topical events! also the music slaps.

I have read some articles about class in "Dracula" and how it is important that Quincey and Jonathan, who are the two least well-off, mostly self-made men, are the ones to kill the aristocratic count, who uses and abuses the people he is lord of.
I think there is also something to the fact that Jack and Arthur have to kind of leave behind their airs of "nobility" with Arthur shoveling coal and Jack no longer speaking into his podcast machine and losing control over Renfield. They just have to be people and do things with their own hands (like writing! So hard!).
I also feel quite bad for the Romani who help Dracula. I know Stoker is very racist about them. But I can't imagine they really want to kill people to protect him. They just think they will be punished later. It really could've been anyone who happened to be under his yoke and forced to do his bidding. Really it could've been any underclass that was put in that position. I don't think any of them woke up and thought, "I want to kill a cowboy today."
