If the Pokemon world had their own "Remnants of Despair", who do you think would be in it. (Junko somehow made a portal there or something.)

Ooo okay that’s a super interesting thing to think about! There’s a lot of things to consider when picking remnants in this sort of context (fighting tooth and nail against the instinct to just bonk my favs with the villain au bat but I shall resist!)

I think it’s important take how the Pokémon world works into account, like having Junko just physically torture someone into despair (think Chisa) wouldn’t fly, Pokémon’s ratings as a franchised wouldn’t allow it. So I’ve only picked characters who already had something that Junko could pull on to manipulate them into despair. I also tried to get at least one person from every region! I'm not 100% certain about some of these, so I’d definitely love to hear other people’s thoughts! (And let’s see if anyone can guess which character I had the most thoughts for lol)

Kanto:

Chloe: I think I’ve talked about Chloe’s villain au potential before, but at least during the early part of the Journeys anime she fairly closed off and distant, her dad paid more attention to Goh and Ash then to her, and there were loads of instances where he put his Pokémon work above her needs and family plans.

Jessibelle: Listen, Jessie and James are too whimsical for something like this but Jessibelle was already a physically abusive gold digger lol so I’m sure Junko would have something to work with there.

Johto:

Silver: Not only is his dad a globally wanted criminal, but he also abandoned Silver when he went into hiding (I think that’s the backstory at least), and Silver has a lot of dialogue about treating Pokémon only as tools. If being a strong trainer didn’t get Giovanni’s attention, then maybe being a Remnant would.

Clair: Okay I’m going to be honest, I realized there weren’t enough girls on the list and threw Clair on last minute, but she also is super annoying in the Johto games lol. Like come on I won the battle just give me the badge!!

Hoenn:

Courtney: So in the Pokémon Masters phone game there’s a bit where Courtney is shown to really believe in the Team Magma cause and really hates Team Aqua even after everything had been resolved at the end of ORAS, so I think Junko could get her that way. Have Courtney convinced that it’s her duty to keep Team Magma’s ideals alive even if the rest of the team forgot them.

Sinnoh:

Cyrus: Cyrus failed. All that effort to create his perfect world, catching the lake spirits, scaling Mount Corinette, he got so close— Just to have it all come crashing down at the last moment. His life’s work destroyed by some kid! He already had little to no patience for humanity, so thanks to Junko’s influence fine, he’ll make this world so unbearable to live in that people will beg him to create his perfect world at last.

Saturn: Saturn will follow Cyrus anywhere, both Pokémon Masters and the Chronicles of Arceus movie showed that if the Commanders are put in a situation without Cyrus they will go to any lengths to get him back. Saturn's devotion runs deep, so if Cyrus says despair is the answer then that’s what it’ll be.

Unova:

Roxy: I’ve got nothing to justify this one with other then Junko wanted an Ibuki replacement to preform silly little despair concerts and I needed someone to rep Unova.

Kalos:

Sycamore: I’m not the first person to say Sycamore and Lysander were in love if not in a full blown relationship when everything went down in Kalos. But Lysander died, crushed under the weapon he’d risked everything to restore. The longer Sycamore goes without him the more he notices the flaws in humanity Lysander was talking about. People are selfish and greedy, look at the state of the world! Professors in Paldea nearly caused an ecological nightmare! The president of the Galar region Pokémon league almost plunged the world into eternal darkness! Not to mention what the morons over in Hoenn tried to do. If even people that were supposed to be trustworthy were causing this much chaos then there was no hope for the rest of humanity. If he could just get Lysander back, just see him one more time— tell him he’d been right, Sycamore was sorry for not seeing it sooner, that he missed him, and that if he could go back he’d have never given those kids the Pokémon that he was ultimately defeated by. If he could just get him back— if there was just some way— like if there was a big, giant, ancient machine that was capable of bringing back the dead still sitting in pieces in Geosenge Town…

Alola:

Faba: Is anyone really surprised? Faba is a little weasel of a man and will jump ship to whoever currently holds the most power. He could be a Branch Chief again! Or even better, if he does a good enough job maybe Junko will give him the whole Aether Foundation as a reward! (She won’t, but the possibility would always be held over his head to keep him in line)

Hau: Okay but hear me out— in the Ultra games specifically Hau has a few interactions with Guzma where he taunts him about being in his grandpa’s shadow and never being able to prove himself as a strong trainer. Gladion’s dialogue reinforces this, that Hau is always too busy goofing off and never takes anything seriously. If Hau’s just stuck there, his friends surpacing him, his rivals surpacing him, the mantle of Kahuna an unattainable goal constantly hovering over him, all those expectations and the realization he’s never going to meet any of them— it might become too much to deal with.

Galar:

Rose: He was only trying to help! Why couldn’t anyone see that? Galar needed Eternatus and the dynamax particles it could make, Rose had been saving the world! They were all so ungrateful, locking him in jail for saving them, who do they think they are? He made this region into what it is today! Everyone relies on Macro Cosmos, and he ran the entire Pokémon league on top of that! That Leon would be nothing without him! It was a region of ungrateful brats. But even so, he’ll still keep working to ‘help’ them all again, you’re welcome.

Oleana: *holds up photos of Oleana and of Peko* Corporate needs you to find the difference between these two pictures. They’re the same picture.

Raihan: He had to beat him. If he just trained harder, more sandstorms, bigger dragons, if he wanted it more. Leon couldn’t be invincible, he couldn’t be, and Raihan would prove it. Turn all of Galar to a battle ground if he needed, but he was going to take down that champion once and for all.

Paldea:

Kieran: Again, no one’s surprised. Just take BB league champion Kieran and turn him up to 11, and boom. Remnant Kieran. He’s still on a hunt for a legendary Pokémon, if he can just find one of those then he’ll be strong enough to defeat anyone right!

Bonus, all the Team Star bosses: I’m thinking they’d be like the equivalent of the Warriors of Hope, not really part of the Remnants group but still very much in despair. I mean come on, a group of bullied teens like that, Junko would have a field day.

And there we go! 15 Remnants plus five Warriors of Hope! I thoroughly enjoyed this ask, I know some of the concepts were much more fleshed out then others, I almost went with Misty and Brock for Kanto (his parents abandoned him to raise all his younger siblings while being the city gym leader, and Misty was so stuck in her sister's shadow she ran away from home) but I just couldn’t do that to two of my childhood faves. (Pierce and Gladion also almost made the list).

I had the honor of drawing a few scenes for my author, @golby-moon's very sweet Claire POV fic, which is set mostly in post-canon revolving the relationship Claire has towards her not-quite Dad but Dad. Golby has a way with words that cozy up right next to your heart, but also think "Wow. Claire would definitely do that". Also features Claire, Kaia, and a bit of love for our favorite dummies(Destiel ofc). Please go show them lots of love on Ao3!

So I imagine them swapping for the first time it went like: Hau > Lance, Lance > Steven, Cynthia > Wallace, Wallace > Cynthia, Iris > Geeta, Diantha > Leon, Leon > Diantha, Geeta > Hau

No but, immediately, I know in my heart, Lance's League would figure out it's not him hahaha

I know his League would immediately know it's not him, bc for one, Lance has a resting bitch face, and the Lance that's in front of them rn is smiling at them so softly and so awkwardly and I know Clair's there looking at em all "okay, so, I'm not the only one freaked out by this, yeah?"

After their meeting, they all left except for a few, maybe Clair and Silver, since "Lance" just stayed in the meeting hall, pacing, muttering under his breath, looking around, he's like stimming honestly, and ofc that's odd for Clair and Silver, Lance wasn't like that. In fact, during the meeting he was so quiet, and it's always him who does the talking. Either way, they'll find out what's really going on w him

Imagine the first time they swapped, Steven was exploring a cave in Hoenn, and then the swap happened, and Lance is there in the middle of a dark as fuck cave going "where the hell am I?!"

Oh Cynthia would be fucking vibing she's in Wallace's body now fr, like imagine her waking up, going to the bathroom, looks at herself in the mirror and she just fucking screams. Lisia runs in, almost kicks the door open, panicking, asking what happened. Cynthia had to force herself to calm down and give Lisia a not so convincing smile going "n-nothing's wrong! Don't worry!" Laughing nervously while waving her hand, but Lisia didn't buy it ofc, tho maybe her uncle just wanted some time for himself, and she said he should call her if there's smth wrong, and finally left. Cynthia called Steven in a hurry after that, only for Lance to be on the other end. This was not her day.

Wallace is honestly the same w Cynthia tho, like Cyn's sister running to her room in a hurry too, only for Wallace to try and play it cool, going "I just saw a, uhh, Spinarak crawl by, that's all!" And ofc, he knows abt Cynthia's small fear of bugs, he just hoped her sister would buy it too, fortunately it did, w her sister saying she shouldn't scream like that, shaking her head going, "you scared gran and gramps, you continue to take years off their lives, Thia, I swear" and she finally left.

The Paldea kids also immediately figured out there's smth wrong w "Geeta" bc there was no way in hell Geeta knows a lot abt fandom stuff. Iris was horrible at this, like she's really trying to make the most of it, but she relented bc hey, they really were looking at her weird, so she just "I.. yeah, I'm not Geeta. I'm Iris, the Unova Champion."

"champion Iris??"

"yep, I don't know what happened, but I was in a middle of eating breakfast and suddenly I'm at Geeta's office."

The four of them do help her out, they've trained for this, they always impersonate the league members behind their backs bc they thought it was funny, so they taught her how to act like Geeta and make it less suspicious. It still failed, Rika knew Geeta doesn't know abt this really obscure Unovan show she watches

Geeta was also figured out quick, bc the Alola kids just noticed "Hau" walking upright with his hands folded behind his back all the time. The way he talks too, it wasn't like Hau, ofc it wasn't Hau. Geeta was calmer, quieter, more observant, really the opposite of Hau. They did ask her abt it, and she ended up just telling them the truth, that she really isn't Hau, "I don't know, perhaps this is a pokemon's doing, hopefully you'll have your friend back soon." She said, and it's so weird for the Alola kids to hear it in Hau's voice, to hear his own voice sound so monotonous, they were so used to him being so lively and upbeat.

As much as I want Dia and Leon to ruin each others reputation, I also wanna say that they realized their lives are almost similar yknow.

Diantha woke up in Leon's room, at first ofc she panicked, the place was unfamiliar to her until she looked into the mirror. But hey, she's a seasoned actress, she knows how to play the part, even if it's a role she doesn't like. So she went on her day, got dressed, and went downstairs to have breakfast w his family. And idk, idk I want her to like,, have this lil moment bc yknow, she found out Leon was still w his mother, together w his brother, the three of them having breakfast together, and it reminds her of the times when she was younger, Drasna and Augustine w her on the dining table, eating breakfast too, telling each other about their days and such, and those days were the ones she treasured the most. It actually made her cry, Hop and his mom were worried, asking "Leon" was wrong, but Dia just smiled, "it's nothing, I'm sorry.. I just.. it's nice being with you guys." And it was nice, yknow, maybe when everything's normal again, she could have a normal breakfast w her family at home again too

And on Leon's end, he realizes how lonely Diantha was. She was staying at the League, none of the Elite Four were there, just her, just him. He looked around her room, neat and pristine, ofc, what did he expect, then he got dressed too, preparing for what kinda day he'd have. He should message the other champions, but like, none of them messaged their group chat yet, so maybe this only happened between him and Dia. So hey, he's roaming around the League yknow, it was quiet, it was empty, like his own office at his tower, how lonely it was, how isolating it was. He went out the garden, looking at the statue in the middle, at the fountain, at the Pokémon who were sleeping within the trees. It was quiet. Too quiet. He didn't like it, it reminds him too much of his tower, being on top of everyone, alone on his pedestal. He sighed, "this is what you wake up to everyday..?" He asked, knowing he won't get an answer, he sighed, "no wonder you don't like being alone too."

Ofc, maybe after they all decided to actually message each other abt what's going on, and it's a relief yknow that it's not just a certain pair, but it's also concerning for them bc how did this actually happen?? They ended up having an impromptu meeting, in case they won't return to their own bodies, they'd know what to do at least. But yeah, maybe they did return to their bodies, or maybe it took a while before they did, idk that'd be interesting, that they get to experience how the other champions go on their day, and they find out more abt them too hahah

Lardo flings open the door and makes a beeline for Shitty’s bed so she can crawl out onto the Reading Room. She doesn’t even make it all the way onto the roof before she’s continuing her rant from their text chain.

“And like, I’m sort of shocked they waited till now to ask me, like, it’s almost finals? Did they think I just didn’t have my shit figured out already?” she asks, dumping her bag to one side and settling into her customary spot.

“Well—”

“Leaving aside the fact that I don’t have a living situation figured out yet, it just feels like a desperate move. Doesn’t bode well, you feel me?”

“For sure. Bear?” he asks, holding out the biggest bag of gummy bears she’s seen in a while toward her.

She raises a single eyebrow. “Did you accidentally buy a bag with the pink ones again?”

“...Maybe.”

“Bear me.” He passes over the bag and they take a moment to just watch the street, soaking up the breeze rustling through the leaves and the sounds of Beyoncé from the kitchen below them. The first taste of grapefruit makes her wrinkle her nose – she’s not the biggest fan of the flavor – but she’s not about to let Shitty absently snack on something that he’s mildly allergic to, so she keeps eating.

“So did you give them an answer already?” Shitty asks eventually, a weird expression on his face. Lardo squints at him, but lets it go in favor of answering.

“I told them I had to think about it,” she says, picking out the last few pink bears. “It’d be like, fine, but – ‘kay, I ate all the gross pink ones for you—”

“Brah,” he says, fake tearing up in gratitude. She punches him in the side of the arm and Shitty falls to the side with a dramatic groan. Lardo just rolls her eyes and continues her thought.

“—But, it's on the other side of campus. Plus, Claire's gonna sexile Lara weekly, and I don't wanna Judge Judy all senior year.” She leans back on her hands, more glad than ever she doesn’t have to use her brain any more today. “Man. Why the printmaking kids gotta be so damn horn a bajillion percent of the time?”

There’s a beat of silence where Shitty would normally make fun of her (admittedly strange) art friends, and then—

“So, Lards, ‘bout housing…I’m thinking you should have my dibs.” Lardo freezes at the words. Surely she didn’t hear correctly. He can’t have offered her his room in The Haus. He can’t have.

“I mean it makes a whole lotta sense, right? I mean, first, you practically fuckin’ love here anyway,” he says, ticking the items off on his fingers. “Second, it should be your right as manager. And third—” he meets her gaze squarely, more sincere and earnest about this than he ever was for hockey or any of his classes. This is important to him, maybe the most important. Suddenly, she’s fighting down a lump in her throat.

“You’re one of the best teammates I’ve ever had. So like. You know what to do to seal the deal…if you want ‘em, that is.” 

Apparently he can have been offering his room – offering her a chance to live with some of her favorite people in the whole damn world – as though it was a given, a right, a done deal. He holds out his hand for the customary Dibs Shake, but to her horror, Lardo sniffs, and there’s a tear dripping down her cheek that she has to hide in her elbow.

“Shitty…”

The wobble in her voice sets him off, and now they’re both halfway to ugly crying on the roof of the Haus like dumbasses. “Oh no-no-no, dude,” he says, furiously blinking to ward off tears. “If you waterworks, I’ll w-waterworks…”

She launches herself at him with a strangled AGGGHH!! – throwing her arms around him and squeezing as tightly as she can, hoping that her message gets across without actual words.

Shitty squeezes her back, and his words sound a little relieved (did he think she’d say no???) and a lot wet when he manages to speak. “Hugs count too.”

Fuck right they do.

When they finally break apart, Shitty’s beaming at her and she can feel her own smile widening in response.

“I guess I better tell Claire and Lara I’m already set for next year then,” she teases, striving for her normal dry tone.

“Brah, you’re gonna eat a million pies next year.”

“‘Swawesome.”

je me suis forcée à aller cimetière pour me faire sortir et pas passer la journée dans ma chambre comme hier mais en attendant quand je suis dehors je travaille pas. en plus c'était bien hier dans ma chambre j'écoutais de la musique j'avais la fenêtre grande ouverte mon nouveau tapis sous les pieds et j'écrivais un texte pour le open call du haus für poesie. j'avais commencé à essayer de traduire marrons glacés en allemand mais j'ai laissé tomber, y avait trop de subtilités, ça change toutes les sonorités, impossible de traduire délicat, délicate parce que c'est pas genré en allemand et en plus c'est moche (zart). c'était clairement au dessus de mon niveau de compétence. j'ai passé la matinée à regarder des tutos et à lire des forums sur le microkorg pour savoir de quoi j'avais besoin pour m'en servir sur scène parce qu'ils demandent une fiche technique dans le open call mais j'ai pas trouvé de réponse claire alors j'ai écrit à r., après de longues hésitations, parce que j'avais peur d'être ridicule, ce qui à la réflexion est encore plus ridicule, mais je suis tellement intimidée par le monde de la musique que je me sens ridicule rien que d'avoir eu l'idée de vouloir utiliser un synthé. le monde des câbles et des adaptateurs et des prises et des machines me mystifie totalement et il me fait peur. ou plutôt il m'ennuie. il m'emmerde profondément. j'ai bien vu l'année dernière à genève quand on a fait le setup pour la perf avec ru. à quel point je servais à rien. alors qu'elle non plus à la base elle y connaissait rien. bref, il m'a dit qu'il me répondrait ce soir tard parce que grosse journée de papa et j'avais envie de lui envoyer mille coeurs.

hier j'ai découvert la signification du mot limérence et je crois bien que c'est de ça que je souffre. ça fait citron vert et ça fait liminal. entre deux. transitoire. sur le seuil. avec un goût acide mais frais. rafraîchissant. mouais. ils disaient que la différence avec l'amour c'est qu'en limérence on se soucie pas du bien-être de l'autre, c'est très autocentré, tout ce qui compte c'est de savoir si l'autre nous aime ou pas. l'autre différence c'est qu'on met l'autre sur un piédestal et qu'on voit pas ses défauts. ok. moi je pense que c'est juste une forme de tomber amoureuse spécifique aux gens qui ont vécu un trauma d'abandon/de négligence dans leur enfance et j'aurais pas appelé ça limérence, mais bon.

(je viens de voir un écureuil!) hier soir je suis quand même sortie prendre l'air et ça s'est transformé en promenade de deux heures, je crois que c'était la meilleure jusqu'à maintenant. à part la toute première le premier soir. j'ai vu le coucher du soleil au tempelhofer feld, je voyais jamais l'intérêt de cet endroit ni l'engouement qu'il suscite parce que c'est juste une piste d'atterrissage vide sans arbres ni rien, mais hier j'écoutais de la très bonne musique et y avait pas trop de monde et le ciel était entre deux averses à moitié gris-mauve à moitié doré, tout était doré et beau et spectaculaire et y avait une atmosphère très paisible. quand le soleil s'est couché il s'est mis à pleuvoir à grosses gouttes c'était le moment entre le jour et la nuit et je savourais l'eau qui me tombait sur les jambes et trempaient mon short gris en molleton les néons étaient allumés dans les rues et les gens mangeaient et buvaient des coups sur les trottoirs mouillés abrités sous les auvents magie magique j'étais enchantée par tout. j'aime bien être dans cet état, quand tout m'émerveille. j'aime bien quand ça arrive. je sais pas à quoi ça tient.

je continue sur ma lancée des efforts, ce soir j'étais dans un bar lesbien avec une fille d'un groupe telegram qui m'a demandé si je voulais l'accompagner au public viewing de princess charming, je le sentais qu'à moitié mais bon toute occasion est bonne à prendre pour rencontrer des lesbiennes alors j'ai dit ok et j'ai passé la soirée à me dire putain je pourrais être tranquille sur mon canapé en train de travailler sur mon texte avec la fenêtre ouverte. il faisait super chaud à l'intérieur et on était collées à l'écran juste à côté du haut-parleur qui me perçait les tympans parce qu'y avait pas de place et les gens qui passaient devant le bar me rentraient continuellement dans le dos et je pensais encore au squelette qui dit if it sucks, hit da bricks!! mais je voulais pas être impolie, alors j'ai patiemment attendu que l'interminable épisode de téléréalité lesbienne se termine en faisant du eye contact avec une fille très grande sur le trottoir qui ressemblait à un des grands frères de stranger things avec son mullet bouclé et sa chemise à manches courtes ouverte sur un marcel blanc.
