🚨: Terrorist attack on Hindu pilgrims in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
In a tragic event, a group of pilgrims met with a devastating accident when their bus careened off the road and plunged into a gorge near Teryath village in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Reports indicate that at least ten individuals lost their lives, while over 30 sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred on Sunday. The bus, returning from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra, a town renowned for the Vaishno Devi temple, was traveling along a link road of NH144A, navigating through dense forests and hilly terrain. Prompt response from locals and authorities led to rescue efforts, while security forces, comprising personnel from the police, Army, and CRPF, initiated a search operation to apprehend the assailants. The area, located 100 kilometers northwest of Jammu, has been cordoned off in response to the premeditated attack. Reasi SSP Mohita Sharma disclosed that the terrorists had orchestrated the assault, targeting the bus as it passed through the area. The driver was struck by gunfire, causing the vehicle to veer off course. Evidence, including bullet casings, was recovered from the scene, indicating the involvement of two masked assailants. Although the identities of the deceased and injured have yet to be officially confirmed, it is suspected that the pilgrims hailed from Uttar Pradesh. This incident underscores the potential spread of terrorist activities into previously unaffected regions, as Reasi district had hitherto remained insulated from the surge in attacks witnessed in neighboring districts such as Rajouri and Poonch. The Pir Panjal route, notorious for its rugged terrain, serves as a favored infiltration route for terrorists moving from the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri towards Kashmir. Intelligence sources suspect the participation of Illiyas Fauji, a former Pakistani army SSG commando turned LeT operative, along with two other militants from Pakistan who have evaded capture since the deadly assault on an IAF convoy in Poonch on May 4. This recent attack in Reasi follows a similar incident on May 13, 2022, when terrorists targeted a bus transporting pilgrims from Katra to Jammu using "sticky bombs," resulting in four fatalities and 13 injuries. The assault evokes memories of the July 10, 2017, attack on a bus ferrying Amarnath pilgrims, which claimed seven lives and left 19 others wounded. Despite facing heavy gunfire, the driver in that instance managed to safeguard 52 passengers. According to data from the Union home ministry, eight civilians have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the first five months of the current year up to May 31. Concerns regarding security have been heightened in anticipation of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, prompting Jammu ADGP Anand Jain to oversee security arrangements on Friday night. The review encompassed preparations not only for the annual Amarnath Yatra but also for the Mata Kheerbhawani mela, Budha Amarnath Yatra, and Shri Machail Yatra, emphasizing the establishment of joint control rooms to enhance coordination among all concerned agencies. The Amarnath cave shrine, nestled at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the South Kashmir Himalayas, is slated to host its annual pilgrimage from June 29 to August 19.

India: Repression Persists in Jammu and Kashmir
Rights Restricted Five Years Since Special Autonomous Status Revoked
Tumblr media
(London) – The Indian government has not restored freedom of speech and association to Jammu and Kashmir five years after revoking the region’s special autonomous status on August 5, 2019, Human Rights Watch said today.
The Indian security forces continue to carry out repressive policies including arbitrary detention, extrajudicial killings, and other serious abuses. Indian authorities seek to justify abuses by contending that political violence in the region has declined considerably in the past five years, with fewer civilian and security personnel casualties. A recent surge in violence in the Jammu region since June has led to the death of 15 soldiers and 9 civilians.
“Indian authorities insist that violence has been contained in Jammu and Kashmir, but in five years they have done little to end the government assault on fundamental freedoms,” said Meenakshi Ganguly, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “Kashmiris are unable to exercise their right to free expression, association, and peaceful assembly because they fear they will be arrested, thrown in prison without trial for months, even years.”
In March 2024, demonstrators in the now separate territory of Ladakh demanded a greater participation and role in how their territory is governed. Since 2019, religious minorities and migrant workers have faced targeted attacks while hundreds of Kashmiris, including journalists and human rights activists, remain in custody under draconian detention and counterterrorism laws.

Why isn’t mass media more neutral?
Disclaimer: I’m not taking any sides here, nor am I provoking any of you to say it, but this has been on my mind quite a bit and I feel like saying it now: Honestly saying, I’ve always felt like the media favours Palestine over Israel way to much even tho media is supposed to be neutral.
Essays in exams, front pages of newspaper, stars on social media always talk about Palestine but seem to be painting a rather black and white “Palestine good Israel bad” picture but never seem to be willing to dwell deeper into the topic, and when they they go somewhat below the surface it’s always from Palestine’s perispective only, nothing explaining Israel’s side of story as passionately even if at all. Even in India vs Pakistan wars, you’ll find motives and aggressions from both sides easily enough if you looked.
“Stars” like Bela Hadid raise slogans demanding Israel’s dissolve under the ruse of Palestine’s independence and no one bats an eye. The founder of Human rights watch left the organisation saying that it was being biased towards Palestine and has forgotten its original purpose. A lot of funding of these pro palestine news channels comes from Pro Islamic nations organisations, most of the said countries being Palestine supporters.
Palestine is suffering, yes, but it’s not just Israel that’s making it suffer. Hamas has a major role to play too. It kills its own civilians more than Israel does. Palestine has seen some serious bloodshed since Hamas came into power but no one seems to focus on that. There’s little to no discussion about how Palestine is bleeding internally due to hamas, but only the stuff that can be used against Israel.
You’ll hear about how Israel “attacked” Gaza and most of the times it turns out to be some retaliation. We always hear about civilian deaths whose names are never revealed but no one ever wonders what civilians were doing around militant bases. We talk about how palestinians are being thrown out of Israel to show them as big aggressors and it turns out that the land was originally Israel’s territory to begin with.
I’m not being pro-Israel here, And I very well admit that it can have its fair share of violations, such as killing of the one Al-Jazeera reporter , accident or not (look, I fucking hate that platform but that doesn’t mean I condone killing of someone who didn’t do anything) but this is something that has always made me curious. It can’t be as simple as “Israel evil”, can it?

In visuals: Terrorists shift focus to Jammu region
No civilian or security personnel had been killed in any terror-related incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi since 2012. That changed on June 9, when terrorists killed nine pilgrims and injured 41 others – a clear signal that the Jammu region is the new focus of Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. According to data compiled by India Today and the New Delhi-based Institute of Conflict Management (ICM), 42 civilians and security forces have been killed in 29 incidents of terrorism in the Jammu region, nearly twice the number of such deaths in the Kashmir division since January 2023. The South Asia Terrorism Portal of the ICM shows 24 civilians and security personnel fell victim to terrorism-related incidents in Anantnag, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kulgam, Pulwama, and Shopian districts of Kashmir until June 13, 2024. At least 42 civilians and security personnel were killed in Jammu region compared to 24 in Kashmir between January 1, 2023 and June 13, 2024, data shows. During the same period, 17 civilians lost their lives in Rajouri district, and 25 security personnel laid down their lives in encounters and ambushes in the Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Reasi, and Udhampur districts, the data shows. As many as 53 civilians and 29 members of the Army, CRPF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police were injured in terror-related incidents during this period. The terrorists’ strategy to shift the battleground to J&K’s Hindu-dominated Jammu division became evident when terrorists gunned down five people in Rajouri’s Dhangri village on the first day of 2023. Two children later died in an IED blast planted by the terrorists. Nearly a dozen armed personnel lost their lives in the ensuing months-long anti-terror operations in the jungles of the Pir Panjal range. The nation was up for another grief when terrorists ambushed and killed five soldiers in Poonch in April 2023. The attacks have since continued and expanded into more districts following the June 9 attack this year. DECODING ENEMY INTENTIONS The question on the minds of many Indians is: Why are terrorists targeting the Jammu region? It has become difficult for them to operate in Kashmir due to a crackdown on the terror ecosystem and funding. Additionally, the forests of the Pir Panjal serve as a natural hiding space for intruders. “Obviously, Kashmir is difficult to go to today,” said Lt Gen (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain, who commanded the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. Strategic affairs expert Sushant Sareen said, “The center of gravity has shifted to this region. We should have woken up to this many years back.” In an interview with India Today TV, Lt Gen Hasnain said terrorists chose to attack the pilgrims’ bus in Reasi at a time when Narendra Modi was taking oath in a grand ceremony in Delhi to send a message. “One or more layers of (Pakistan’s deep state) decided that they needed to convey a message to the world that while the NDA government may be talking about its achievements, it has not got Jammu and Kashmir under control,” said Lt Gen Hasnain. June 10 (UPI) -- Armed militants over the weekend opened fire on a bus transporting Hindu pilgrims in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region, killing at least eight people and injuring nearly three dozen others, officials and authorities said.
The incident happened at about 6:10 p.m. local time Sunday in the Reasi district of the Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir, which both India and Pakistan lay claims to and control a portion of.
Reasi police said the bus was transporting the Hindu pilgrims from the famous Shiv Khori cave shrines to Katra when the vehicle came under fire.
"The driver was hit and lost control, resulting in the bus sliding into the nearby gorge," Distric Police Reasi said in a statement.
All passengers were evacuated from the vehicle by 8:10 p.m. with the injured transported to local hospitals.
According to police, eight deaths have so far been confirmed and another 33 injured. Police had earlier said that nine were "feared dead."
The Resistance Front has claimed responsibility for the attack, India Today reported, citing a statement from the Pakistan-based militant organization.
TRF is a proxy group for Lashkar-E-Taiba, a Pakistani terrorist organization based in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region. It has been designated by India as a terrorist organization.
TRF warned in its statement that more attacks on tourists and locals would be conducted, calling Sunday's assault the "beginning of a renewed start."
Lt. Gov. Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a statement saying local security forces have launched an operation "to hunt down the terrorists."
"I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on a bus in Reasi," he said.
"My condolences to the family members of the martyred civilians."
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has taken "stock of the situation."
"All those behind this heinous act will be punished soon," he vowed.
He later said he visited injured pilgrims in the hospital.
India and Pakistan have feuded over Jammu and Kashmir since Britain's withdrawal in 1947, with their first war over the region ending with a U.N.-brokered cease-fire in 1949.
India has repeatedly accused Pakistan of harboring militants who have committed terrorists attacks in the region, and there were a number of skirmishes between the two countries over the military Line of Control in 2019.
The recent attack comes days after Modi's Hindu nationalist party declared victory in national elections.

Families Of Jammu Twin Terror Attack Victims Block Highway, Demand Justice
The victim families sought identification and arrest of the culprits behind the attack without any further delay, officials said.
Tumblr media
Rajouri/Jammu: The family members of the seven civilians killed in a terror attack in Dangri village of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district in January this year blocked the Jammu-Poonch National Highway on Monday.
Demanding justice, hundreds of villagers marched in a procession from Dangri and blocked the busy highway near Muradpur, half-a-km away from the scene of the terror attack in Rajouri district.
The victim families sought identification and arrest of the culprits behind the attack without any further delay, officials said.
Terrorists had struck Dhangri village on January 1 and targeted villagers before fleeing the scene, leaving behind an improvised explosive device (IED).
While five people were killed in the firing by terrorists, two others died in the IED explosion the next morning. As many as 14 villagers were injured in the twin attacks.
On May 6, the army killed a terrorist during an anti-terrorist operation in the forested Kandi area of Rajouri. Some locals later identified the terrorist as one of the Dhangri village attackers.
Carrying pictures of the killed civilians and chanting slogans in support of justice, the villagers staged a sit-in on the highway around 9 am on Monday and also burnt tyres, leading to traffic jams.
Senior civil and police officials rushed to the scene and are trying to persuade the protesters to disperse, officials said.
Saroj Bala, who lost her two sons in the terror attack, said she had been waiting for justice for the last six months. "We have been hearing that the case has almost been solved, but there is no trace of the terrorists involved in the attack. The terrorist supporters, who facilitated the attack, are also yet to be identified," Ms Bala, who was leading the protest, said.
She had addressed a press conference in Jammu on June 5 and said "I simply want justice for my children". Ms Bala's two sons -- Prince and Deepak -- were killed in the terrorist attack, leaving her the only survivor member in the family as she had lost her husband to a disease sometime back.
"Six months have passed since the attack happened, but no solid action has taken place till date," she added.

Civilian shot dead by suspected militants in J&K’s Anantnag
Tumblr media
A civilian was shot dead by militants in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, the police said. Deepak Kumar, 26, from the Udhampur district of the Jammu region was attacked when he had gone to a nearby market to purchase milk. He was part of a circus crew that was camping at the Janglaat Mandi area and was provided security. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, two persons on a motorcycle fired three bullets at him from a close range at around 8.30 pm. “He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the police said in a tweet. “Case registered, investigation going on.” A little-known militant group called the Kashmir Freedom Fighters has claimed responsibility for the killing, reported The Times of India. The group is believed to be a shadow outfit of banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the killing. “Our security forces remain committed in their resolve to thwart the designs of terrorists and all efforts will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said, according to The Indian Express. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said he was pained by the targeted attack on the civilian. “The murder of Deepak who worked with a travelling circus to earn an honest living is an abomination,” he... Three civilians were killed on Monday when a MIG-21 military aircraft crashed into a house in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.
The Indian Air Force said in a statement that the plane had taken off for a a "routine operational training sortie" from a nearby base.
"Soon thereafter, the pilot experienced an onboard emergency, following which he attempted to recover the aircraft as per existing procedures. Having failed to do so, he initiated an ejection, sustaining minor injuries in the process," the Air Force said.
"The aircraft wreckage fell on a house in Bahlol Nagar in Hanumangarh District, unfortunately leading to the loss of three lives."
The Air Force said an inquiry had been set up to ascertain the cause of the crash.
Patchy safety record, India modernizing arsenal
MIG-21s have had a shaky history in India, although for decades they were the backbone of the country's Air Force. First acquired from the Soviet Union in 1963, several later variants were added to the fleet over the years.
However, India's continued reliance on the outdated technology is a point of contention for its aviators, with the model among the handful of planes downy the years that some dissatisfied crews have taken to nickname a "flying coffin" after multiple fatal crashes.
Last July, two pilots were killed when their twin-seater MIG-21 trainer aircraft crashed near Barmer, also in Rajasthan. That was the sixth MiG-21 crash since Janauar 2021, with five pilots killed in all.
India's military has also suffered several other recent fatal air accidents.
Last week, an Indian-made army helicopter with three people on board crashed in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
And two Indian fighter jets collided mid-air during routine exercises in January 2023, south of the Indian capital of New Delhi. One of the pilots died in the collision. That incident involved two far more modern planes, a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30 and French-made Mirage 2000.
In January 2020, India's most senior military officer, then-Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat, was one of 13 people killed when a Russian-made military transport helicopter crashed en route to an air base.
India is trying to modernize its air force with a mixture of acquisitions from Russia and France, and also by trying to develop a domestic aviation industry of its own.
