Captain Marvel (2019)
A Kree soldier begins recovering memories of a life she never knew on the planet Earth and begins a journey to become Earth's mightiest hero. Filmed around Los Angeles and Shaver Lake.
Carol has a dream of a fiery crash that she can’t remember clearly that took place on the shore of Shaver Lake.
She wakes up Yon-Rogg and they spar in the defunct Eagle Rock Substation.
Their squad then heads to the planet Torfa represented by the Gillibrand Quarry where she is captured by the Skrull.
The Skrull use a mind probe which shows Carol a past she cannot remember. Particularly she remembers being a pilot out of Hanger 1600 of Edwards Air Force Base.
She also sees glimpses of crashing her go-kart as a child at Jim Hall Racing Club and falling from a rope during basic training at Fulcrum Adventures in Culver City Park.
She also remembers spending time with her gal pal Maria at Tinhorn Flats Saloon & Grill which she later visits.
After escaping custody she crashes into the roof of Blockbuster Video. The Blockbuster and other surrounding stores were constructed in the abandoned Valley Plaza strip mall.
The Skrull come ashore on El Segundo Beach and adopt human forms.
After being attacked by one of the Skrull, Carol follows him to Douglas Station and leaps onto the back of the departing train.
Fury chases the train from the ground through the intersection of East Maple & North Nash and then around the corner onto Atwood Way.
He drives next to the train as it comes down to street level at East 1st & Clarence before disappearing into a tunnel.
Fury drives across a busy street at Wilshire Boulevard & Lebanon Street and then drives down West Temple towards Spring in hopes of catching them.
Carol exits the train in the 7th Street / Metro Center Station bus loses her Skrull target in the crowd.
She emerges from the Civic Center / Grand Park Station which is next to where Fury crashed his car after realizing he had a imposter passenger.
Carol uses a computer at the In & Out Market to look up Pancho’s Bar and then steals a motorcycle from some asshole.
She drives to Rosamond where the Zebra Club is the exterior of Pancho’s Bar.
Carol and Fury team up and drive down the Golden State Highway Old Road to Pyramid Dam where Fury uses his badge to enter the facility.
They drive down a long tunnel and wait for the chief of security for the base. The mile-long tunnel they drive down leads to the Eastwood Powerhouse located 1,000 feet beneath Shaver Lake.
They sneak down to the records level to learn about Carol’s past. These archives are a portion of the UCLA Film & Television Archive located in the Southern Regional Library Facility.
While escaping the facility, they pass back through the hanger at Edwards AFB and steal a Quinjet.
When faced with the Supreme Intelligence once again, Carol is given visions of herself falling down multiple times. The parking lot and baseball field are filmed at and around Culver City Park’s Bill Botts Field.
Yon-Rogg’s ship crashes in the desert off Powerline Road in Lucerne Valley and Carol unceremoniously kicks his ass before sending him back to the Kree.

27 Best Things To Do in Los Angeles
HOW WE RANK THINGS TO DOLos Angeles has an exhaustive array of things to do. If you're a film buff, vintage Hollywood is a must-see. Some classic attractions in the area include TCL Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Paramount Pictures Studios, the only television and film studio left in Hollywood. For a taste of stardom, window-shop along Rodeo Drive or cruise Sunset Boulevard. There are also a plethora of shorelines to choose from, including Venice Beach, Zuma Beach and the Santa Monica Pier and Beach. Arts lovers will want to see a show at Walt Disney Concert Hall or swing by Los Angeles County Museum of Art to admire its collection. If you aren't sure where to start, a daylong guided tour of the city is a great way to orient yourself. And after exploring all LA has to offer, consider taking a daytrip south to Anaheim-Disneyland. Griffith Observatory and Griffith Park Griffith Observatory sits on the south face of Mount Hollywood and overlooks the Los Angeles basin. Its location gives visitors impressive views of the surrounding area, which many rave about. But there's more than just a pretty photo-op here. The observatory hosts fascinating exhibitions and features a top-notch planetarium. Most recent visitors cited the beautiful setting as Griffith Observatory's main draw, though the free entry was certainly a bonus. However, you will have to pay between $3 and $7 to see the planetarium shows. Griffith Observatory is open from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, with extended hours on weekends. Free but limited parking is available along the winding roads leading up to the property, or visitors can park in the small lot by the observatory for $10 per hour. A gift shop and cafe can be found on-site as well. For more information, check out Griffith Observatory's website. The Getty Center The Getty Center is one of the most impressive architectural achievements in the United States – and it also contains some of the finest works of art in the world. The circular concrete-and-steel structure was designed by renowned architect Richard Meier, and it houses an abundance of art from various ages and nations. Here you'll find Renaissance paintings, 20th-century American photography, Baroque sculptures, historic manuscripts and more, all housed inside a sprawling, modern campus amid the Santa Monica Mountains. The museum also offers spectacular views of Los Angeles on clear days.Recent travelers loved the museum for its value and beauty, highlighting the contrast between the art center's subtle refinement and the over-the-top glitz of Hollywood. Many visitors suggest taking a guided tour, noting that the tour highlights interesting parts of the museum they wouldn't have stumbled upon on their own. Tours of the Getty Center's architecture and gardens are available, as well as a Collection Highlights tour and tours of art in specific eras. Tour times and days vary depending on tour type. Check the Getty Center's website for a complete calendar. Santa Monica Pier and Beach Just west of downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica contains one of the most legendary beach scenes in the United States. Santa Monica also boasts an abundance of great restaurants and excellent nightlife spots. The 3 miles of shoreline are renowned as some of the best in the area thanks to the soft sands, ideal weather and bevy of attractions. "State Beach," as it's known, has over 200 days of sunshine a year and acted as the backdrop for the popular television series "Baywatch."Santa Monica is a very walkable part of town, and many recent travelers suggest you explore the area by bicycle. Many visitors say the pier is a must-visit spot and fun to see. One of the most scenic rides is along the 22-mile bike path, known as The Strand, which runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean and takes riders through Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey along with Venice, Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo beaches. Travelers also recommend riding the Ferris wheel at the pier and people-watching at the Third Street Promenade. Hollywood Walk of Fame and TCL
Chinese Theatre One of Hollywood's most iconic and memorable sites, the TCL Chinese Theatre (originally Grauman's Chinese Theatre) opened in 1927 and represents the excess of Hollywood's Golden Age. You can tour the theater for $18 (kids tour tickets cost $8 and senior tickets are $14 each); tours are offered from 10:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Monday. Because of this attraction's popularity, it's best to reserve your spot online in advance. This working theater also shows various newly released films throughout the year.Overall, previous travelers said the tour guides' passion for the subject was evident, making their experiences special. However, some wished the area offered a glitzier atmosphere and others complained the tour was overpriced for what you got. Parking can also be challenging to find in Hollywood. Additional information about the attraction's tours and movie showtimes can be found on the TCL Chinese Theatre website. Zuma Beach Malibu has a reputation for excessive wealth and exclusivity, yet all of the town's beaches are public – everyone's welcome. If you're seeking an LA beach spot for sunbathing and swimming, look no further than this part of town. This 1.8-mile beach is far cleaner than those at Santa Monica or Venice Beach.Malibu's Zuma Beach is considered one of the finest beaches in the Los Angeles area. Locals and tourists laud Zuma for its awesome waves, ample parking and easy access to beachside snacks. Plus, there are a plethora of lifeguard stations and bathroom facilities. The Original Farmers Market and The Grove Sitting south of West Hollywood is one of LA's most beloved landmarks: The Original Farmers Market. Founded in 1934, this cream-colored facility reels in both residents and tourists with the promise of fresh produce and the aroma of ready-to-eat snacks. You can visit throughout the week, although hours vary depending on the day. Entry is free, but you'll want to have some cash on hand should any of the treats whet your appetite. You can park for free for up to 90 minutes at the market's two lots, provided that your ticket is validated at the market. (Fees apply for parking after the allotted 90 minutes and for nonvalidated tickets.) For a little help navigating the market, you can also take a guided foodie tour.Though some previous visitors wished this market had more produce and meat stalls, most appreciated the tasty dishes sold by many of the prepared food vendors and many call it a must-see spot. But keep in mind that this market is often crowded and has limited tables, so expect to eat outside the market area or wait for a table to become available. Find out more by visiting the market's website. Sunset Boulevard One of the most iconic thoroughfares in the United States, Sunset Boulevard continues to live up to its legends. In the old days, it represented the classic and glamorous Hollywood lifestyle and became the setting of several famous films, including the obvious classic "Sunset Boulevard." Today, the palm-lined street (which connects downtown LA to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Pacific Coast Highway) retains its cinematic appeal, and the Sunset Strip portion has become a popular nightlife spot. The strip is also home to many classic music venues, including the Rainbow Bar & Grill and The Roxy Theatre.Recent visitors loved driving along this famous boulevard, adding that gorgeous sunsets can be enjoyed during late afternoon drives. But like other parts of LA, this thoroughfare gets congested once rush hour hits, so plan accordingly. Los Angeles County Museum of Art Next door to the La Brea Tar Pits sits the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the linchpin of the Los Angeles museum district. Since its 1965 opening, LACMA has showcased thousands of pieces, from Islamic artifacts to European impressionist paintings to modern art. With constantly shifting exhibitions and unique architecture stretched across more than 20 acres of land, LACMA offers a rewarding experience for both serious art buffs and casual travelers.Currently, the museum is
preparing for the construction of a new building for its permanent collection, called the David Geffen Galleries, which is scheduled to open in 2024. For now, pieces will be on display in the BCAM and the Resnick Pavilion. The Urban Light and Levitated Mass exhibits remain open to visitors. There are three eateries on-site. While travelers commend the food, they note the restaurants are a bit pricey. Many visitors say the artwork on display is stunning, but several lament that much of the art is off exhibit because of the construction.
The Broad Philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad founded this museum in 2015 and the structure made for a stunning addition to downtown Los Angeles. The eye-catching, honeycomb building, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, is home to an expansive collection of contemporary art dating from the 1950s to the present. The collection includes works by Jean Michel Basquiat, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker and Andy Warhol. In addition to the permanent collection, temporary exhibits showcase new and emerging artists. The museum gets high marks from recent visitors who loved both the artwork and the architecture.Admission to the museum is free (though some special exhibits may have a fee). For guaranteed entry, you can book timed tickets in advance. The museum is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking costs $15 for three hours with museum validation, and $5 for each additional 15 minutes, with a $25 daily maximum. It is $15 after 5 p.m. on weeknights and all day on weekends. The closest Metro line stop is the Civic Center/Grand Park Station. Visit the museum's website for more information. Runyon Canyon Park Just two blocks from Hollywood Boulevard, Runyon Canyon Park is an often-overlooked urban park that offers some great views. The park boasts several hiking trails and is a popular spot for celebrities to exercise. During your hike, you'll see plenty of palm trees. Atop the canyon, you'll be treated to sweeping views of the San Fernando Valley.Travelers say that the canyon is reminiscent of Old Hollywood with several old mansions and estates scattered throughout the park – keep your eyes peeled as you follow the trail. Because of the hot, dry climate, the hike can be rough (even for those in great physical condition), so bring plenty of water. Some recent visitors lamented the lack of facilities, while others raved about the views. Paramount Pictures Studios Since the 1910s, Paramount has showcased the talents of film's all-time heavyweights, including Meryl Streep and Morgan Freeman. The notable site has been home to everything from classic television shows like "I Love Lucy" to modern favorites like Amazon Prime's "Jack Ryan" to box-office hits like "Mission: Impossible" and "Titanic." Today, Paramount Pictures is the only remaining film studio in the Hollywood area. For an authentic Hollywood experience, set aside some time to tour the grounds. On the two-hour studio tour, a guide will take you around the site's 65 acres in a golf cart, and you'll also be able to hop off and explore sound stages and recognizable studio sets from many current TV shows and movies. Previous visitors praised the friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, although some felt the tours offered at Warner Bros. Studio were better. Also, keep in mind the tours' age restrictions. Studio and VIP tours permit visitors ages 10 and older, while the seasonal After Dark tours only welcome travelers 16 and older. Rodeo Drive Immortalized by Julia Roberts' "Pretty Woman" shopping spree, Rodeo Drive is an upscale shopping street in Beverly Hills that features designer stores and small private boutiques. The area is popular with wealthy shoppers, sunglass-wearing celebrities and tourists hoping to see fashion icons.Don't be afraid to browse. Most shop owners are used to sightseers walking the area with little intent to purchase anything. That said, many recent visitors cautioned that some stores require appointments for entry and are generally off limits to tourists. Others said the thoroughfare can be a bit boring if you don't plan on shopping, although past travelers with a passion for cars enjoyed looking for expensive vehicles parked along Rodeo Drive's curb. Hollywood Bowl If you can catch a gig at the Hollywood Bowl, LA's beautiful outdoor amphitheater, don't pass it up. Since its inaugural season in 1922, this unique stage, set in the Hollywood Hills, has entertained thousands
of fans and hosted some of the biggest names in music, including The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Elton John and Tina Turner. Many travelers praise the Hollywood Bowl, touting everything from the sound quality to the scenic overlook. Several also add that all of the seats offer great views and suggest arriving early with a bottle of wine and a picnic basket.
Venice Beach Developed in the early 20th century, Venice Beach is modeled – canals and all – after its namesake city in Italy. Admittedly, the experiment didn't live up to its Italian inspiration, but the neighborhood has become distinctly Californian, embodying the spirit of the wealthy, the alternative and the just plain bizarre. Rather than towering churches and intimate pizzerias, you'll find canal-side mansions near funky boutiques and restaurants.Venice Beach's claim to fame is its boardwalk. Hosting a daily procession of eclectic characters and scantily clad beachgoers, the boardwalk generally impresses out-of-towners. Past visitors loved checking out the area's unique scene (including the open-air Muscle Beach and the Hotel Erwin's High Rooftop Lounge), although some cautioned that the parts away from the pier were not appropriate for younger children. Other travelers note that the boardwalk sometimes reeks of cannabis. Also, remember that Venice Beach can get crowded on sunny days and is better suited for sunbathing, not swimming. Walt Disney Concert Hall This Frank Gehry-designed concert hall's curvaceous, stainless steel façade is an imposing structure in downtown LA. The hall helped revive this particular section of downtown, which was once dominated by mundane office buildings and lackluster entertainment options. Now, nightlife and culture burgeon in the area, and the concert hall is at the forefront. Music-loving travelers will want to catch one of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's performances here. (For ticket and price information, visit the Los Angeles Philharmonic's website.)But you don't have to invest in concert tickets to experience this performance venue: You can follow a docent-led tour or a self-guided audio tour of the exterior and interior (though the actual concert auditorium is off-limits). Hourlong guided and audio tours are both free; audio tours are offered Monday through Saturday from either 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2 to 5 p.m., while guided tour hours vary by day and are generally available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. For a full tour schedule, visit The Music Center's website. Hollywood Forever Cemetery As morbid as it may seem, your best chance of spotting a celebrity in LA is at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Here, you'll find the final resting places of Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Judy Garland, Cecil B. DeMille and other stars who once worked at the adjacent Paramount Pictures Studios. Maps detailing the celebrities' gravesites are available at the cemetery's flower shop.Recent visitors described the cemetery's quiet grounds as "peaceful and serene," adding that the grounds are well-maintained. Many also appreciated the informative and friendly staff. Angeles National Forest In about a half-hour, travelers can trade in busy downtown LA for the serenity of nature at the Angeles National Forest. The almost 700,000-acre forest is an easily accessible place for locals and visitors to hike, bike, ski, ride horses, swim, fish and even camp. Encompassing the San Gabriel Mountains, terrain ranges from desert to dense forest. Perhaps one of the most visited sites is Mount Baldy, which is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains at 10,064 feet. The 28-mile Gabrielino National Recreation Trail offers a variety of hikes, from moderate to challenging. Recent visitors loved the views and found the range of trail options perfect for different types of hikers.Visitors to the Angeles National Forest must purchase a National Forest Adventure Pass. It’s $5 for a daily pass or $30 for an annual pass; the pass is good at other national forests in the area. There are visitor and information centers in different areas of the forest, which offer general information, activities and education events. Visit the forest's website for specific hours and details. La Brea Tar Pits If your kids go crazy for dinosaurs – and really, what kid doesn't? – then a visit to La Brea Tar Pits is sure to be the highlight of their trip. Although the pits look like the set of a cheesy PG
movie, hot tar has been bubbling from the earth at this spot along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile for about 40,000 years. And from the gooiest part of LA, more than 3.5 million fossils from 600-plus species have been discovered. The adjoining museum houses many of the artifacts found at the tar pits; consequently, it is home to one of the largest collections of Ice Age fossils in the world. Recent visitors loved learning something new and found the site fascinating. You can check out the tar pits completely free of charge, but museum tickets start at $15 for adults; reduced entry fees are available for children, students and seniors. You'll save $1 on each ticket if you buy tickets online. All tickets include tours of property facilities like the fossil lab, lake pit and observation pit. Complimentary admission is offered on the first Tuesday of every month (excluding July and August) and every Tuesday in September, but ticket lines on these days are long, so consider reserving your pass online before you arrive. Even if you have to pay to visit, most visitors agree that the exhibits are well worth perusing.
California Science Center A world of fun and exploration await kids, as well as curious adults, at the California Science Center. In the permanent "Ecosystems" exhibit, museumgoers will learn about everything from islands to rivers to forests across eight different zones via interactive displays. In "Creative World," technology takes center stage and explores the innovation in transportation and architecture. But the top draw for recent travelers? The museum's "Air & Space" section which includes the Gemini 11 capsule piloted by Dick Gordon and Pete Conrad as well as a special exhibit about the Endeavor space shuttle. An IMAX theater is also on-site. Recent visitors say the center is wonderful, lots of fun and especially great for kids. The center is free to visit, though special exhibits and IMAX screenings incur a fee. Access to the Endeavor is included with an IMAX or special exhibit ticket. On weekends and holidays, a timed ticket is required to visit Endeavor. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking costs $12. You can also take the Metro Expo Line to Expo Park/USC Station and walk five minutes to the center. Visit the center's website for more information. Dodger Stadium Baseball fans should enjoy a visit to Dodger Stadium, which is home to the LA Dodgers and is MLB's third oldest continually used park. The stadium is carved into Chavez Ravine and overlooks downtown LA to the south and the San Gabriel Mountains to the north, making this ballpark quite unique. If the Dodgers aren't playing when you're in town, you can still see the stadium on a guided tour. Tours of the 56,000-seat stadium last approximately 90 minutes. During the tour, visitors will learn about the stadium's history and may get to go on the field, look at the Dodger Dugout or peek into the Lexus Dugout Club (the VIP restaurant and lounge located behind home plate), which houses the team's World Series trophies and various other awards. Additional specialty tours, such as a Jackie Robinson tour, are also offered. Recent tour-goers say the guides are excellent and enthusiastic. The Dodger Stadium Tour is offered at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on select dates. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 14 and under. Parking is $17 in advance and $25 at the gate, with no in-and-out privileges and no refunds. Tickets to baseball games are seasonal and prices vary. Greystone Mansion and Park Greystone is one of the largest mansions in Beverly Hills and an important landmark for American cinema. The nearly 13-acre parcel of land was a wedding gift from oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny to his son, Ned, in 1926. Construction on the mansion began in 1927 and took almost three years to complete. Greystone now represents a golden age in American cinema. Many films, including "The Big Lebowski" and "Ghostbusters," and television shows like "General Hospital" and "Gilmore Girls" have been shot on these gothic-inspired grounds.Today, the interior of the mansion is closed, except for special events and tours, but visitors are free to walk around the property. Two-hour park ranger tours of the mansion and gardens are held the first Saturday of the month from January through April as well as the first Sunday in March and April. Tours cost approximately $20 per person. For more information or to register for these tours, visit the website. Many visitors call Greystone Mansion a "hidden gem" within LA, saying that it offers respite from the city's hustle and bustle. Travelers describe the park grounds as spectacular and enjoy learning which of their favorite movies and shows used Greystone as a backdrop. Hollywood Homes Tours Once you've seen where the stars shop, where they eat, where they surf and where they party, you'll want to see where they live. A variety of minibus tours provide ample opportunities to spot homes owned by the rich and famous. You probably won't see the celebs themselves, but you can snap pics of the homes affiliated with A-listers like Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Bruno Mars and Halle Berry. Also, expect to see
facades that once housed the likes of Lucille Ball, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. Along with the stars' abodes, buses usually make stops at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Sunset Strip and Rodeo Drive.According to recent travelers, the demeanor of your tour guide can make or break your trip. Visitors stuck on tours with grumpy or mumbling guides wished they had just bought a map and done the tour on their own. Also, be sure to check the weather for the day: Extreme heat or a sudden shower can put a damper on an open-top bus ride. Universal Studios Hollywood One of the most popular attractions in the Los Angeles area, Universal Studios Hollywood features rides and amusements based on some of the most popular scenes and characters from film and television. You can take the famous tram tour past the creepy Bates Motel from "Psycho" and get caught up in a high speed chase with the "Fast & Furious" cast. Kids can shake hands with cartoon favorites like SpongeBob SquarePants and Scooby-Doo. Of course, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is another huge hit, as is Jurassic World – The Ride. If thrills are your thing, there are plenty of hair-raising coasters and rides. On Transformers: The Ride-3D, riders join Optimus Prime in his battle against the Decepticons; meanwhile, youngsters will love the 3D ride Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (complete with a Minion dance party).Universal Studios welcomes hoards of tourists each day; to forgo the long waits, travelers suggest purchasing the Express pass (formerly Front of the Line passes), which cost $179 to $279 each, online. This brings up another pain point: the price. At $109 to $129 for one-day general admission for adults and $103 to $123 for little ones ages 3 to 9 (when purchased online), a family excursion to Universal Studios doesn't come cheap, something some visitors find off-putting. Grand Central Market Grand Central Market, or foodie heaven according to visitors, is located in downtown Los Angeles by the Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Broad. The venue features high ceilings and an open layout, with food vendor stalls offering different cuisines that represent cultures from the Los Angeles area and beyond. The market has been in operation since 1917 and serves everything from coffee and pressed juices to deli fare, egg sandwiches, falafel, tacos and chow mein.Visitors love this market's lively atmosphere, while others thought it didn't live up to the hype. Regardless, this foodie paradise is popular, so expect lines. You'll also find that meals here are considerably cheaper than those served in other parts of the city. Hollyhock House Warner Bros. Studio Located in Burbank, California – a city that sits just 5 miles north of Hollywood – Warner Bros. Studio gives visitors a close-up look at iconic movie and TV sets and props, such as the original Batmobiles, costumes from the "Harry Potter" movies and a replica of the cafe featured in "Friends." Travelers will also drive around the studio's 110-acre backlot, where 30 soundstages are used for producing shows like "Young Sheldon," "Bob Hearts Abishola," and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."Previous visitors loved exploring this property and appreciated their "fun and knowledgeable" tour guides. Additionally, many enjoyed getting out of their golf carts to go inside a working set and other buildings used for filming, citing this as the main reason to tour this studio instead of others like Paramount Pictures Studios. But keep in mind, children 7 and younger are not permitted on any tour. https://travel.usnews.com/Los_Angeles_CA/Things_To_Do/

(Part 1/3) This week we're exploring the destruction and revitalization of White Plains, NY in the postwar decades. White Plains, just north of the Bronx, was historically a small walkable village with a mix of historic buildings and a train station just forty minutes to Grand Central Terminal. In the 1950s, a large 20-block swath of the downtown center was slated for redevelopment. The urban renewal area – which would amount to a third of the downtown area, essentially the entire central business district – would be rebuilt over the following two decades with high-rise offices, civic buildings, a large shopping mall, mixed-income housing, hotels,, and several parking garages. Parkways, expressways and the New York State Thruway had all either been completed or were under construction during the postwar decades and White Plains would focus much of its revitalization on accommodating automobiles. When the 11-mile Cross-Westchester Expressway opened in 1960, the town built a spur leading downtown, with parking garages and widened streets to accommodate the traffic. After a decade of planning, in 1966, demolition of the 130-acre site commenced with the displacement of 1251 families, 525 individuals, and 59 businesses. Of the families displaced, 781 remained within the city limits, many occupying new mixed-income housing developments. The $33‐million Westchester County Courthouse (1974), the Westchester One office building (1975), the $5.5 million Galleria at White Plains shopping mall (1978), the $13 million White Plains Library (1973), and the drastically renovated $20 million New York Telephone Building were located at the center of the development. The Galleria Mall, located directly across the street from the Library and Telephone Building occupied four blocks and created a large blank concrete wall from along the sidewalk – as NY Times architecture critic Paul Goldberger described, “a harsh world of concrete.” (part 1/3) Visit Brutal NYC for more at nycurbanism.com (at White Plains, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHbehMKHQuj/?igshid=196jqxjtf37o5

Niharika Absolute - The best place to buy a house
The first thing that comes to our mind, while we plan to buy a home for us is the location. And it is apparent why location is our priority, no one wants to live in the most luxurious house somewhere in the middle of the desert. Our desire to buy a magnificent property is always accompanied by the enticing facilities that the location of the property has to bring.
So, which location should we choose in order to satisfy all our needs and desires?
The answer is Navi Mumbai!
Established in 1972, Navi Mumbai is one of the finest and largest well-planned townships in the country. This city is a classic example of the trend of urbanization in India and has grown tremendously over the last five years. The area experienced dramatic development and developed into a modern location, full of shops, hotels, multiplex theaters, and a number of other entertainment venues. Located about 29 km north-east of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai is an attractive town with many beautiful locations to visit, such as Vashi, Belapur, and Nerul. It is a great holiday destination for visitors as the city offers its guests a range of interesting views such as Rain Tree Marg, Kharghar, Central Park, etc. This twin town of Mumbai, located between Thane Creek, the Sahyadri Mountains, and the sea coast, was built to decongest Mumbai. The town of Navi Mumbai also offers its guests a range of fine restaurants and hotels to enjoy their stay in Navi Mumbai. There are also several premium restaurants and luxury hotels in Navi Mumbai for lodging, such as Four Points by Sheraton, The Forest, Fortune Choose Exotica, etc. There are several shopping malls, including Seawoods Grand Central Mall in Seawoods, Kharghar's Little World Mall, New Panvel's Orion Mall, Center One Mall, Vashi's Inorbit Mall, and Raghuleela Mall.

Portal to the World: Cincinnati Celebrates Its New Railroad Terminal
Author: Scott Gampfer
On March 31, 1933, a turn of a ceremonial gold key unlocked the doors of Cincinnati’s brand new Union Terminal. The newspaper declared that a portal to the world had swung open. H. A. Worcester, President of the Cincinnati Union Terminal Company, then presented the key to Mayor Russell Wilson. The mayor accepted the key and declared to the assembled crowd and dignitaries that the terminal was “a temple of civic hospitality, welcoming the traveler through gorgeous gates to the city we love and bidding with architectural beauty the departing to return.” During his remarks, the mayor made reference to the fact that Ohio River flooding had caused the terminal to start train service earlier than planned. He said “The disaster of flood befell us, and like a faithful friend the terminal came to our rescue, and for almost two weeks has functioned in prophecy of what it will accomplish in future decades.”
Union Terminal ceremonial key and plaque presented to Mayor Russell Wilson at the grand opening of the new facility. From the collection of Cincinnati Museum Center.
Construction of the new terminal and its related facilities had begun in August of 1929 and was completed in March 1933. The complete terminal facility included 22 separate buildings, 94 miles of track, almost six million cubic yards of fill, 224,500 cubic yards of concrete, over 45,000 tons of steel, and 8,250,000 bricks. The total cost for the project was $41,000,000.
The terminal was built to serve seven railroads; Baltimore & Ohio, New York Central Lines, Louisville & Nashville, Pennsylvania, Chesapeake & Ohio, Norfolk & Western, and Southern Railway. It replaced in a single consolidated facility, the five previous old passenger depots in the Cincinnati downtown basin area, plus the many scattered freight facilities.
The construction of the terminal and related facilities was a massive undertaking, and Cincinnatians were justifiably proud. An enormous crowd gathered on the terminal plaza for the ceremonies. The excitement of the crowd was palpable, many attendees from the area making Friday essentially an informal “Cincinnati Day.”
While waiting for the speakers and the official ceremonies, those in attendance were entertained by a musical performance from the 45-piece Armco Band under the leadership of Frank Simon. The speakers stand was crowded with dignitaries including, Mayor Russell Wilson, City Manager C. A. Dykstra, Ohio Governor George White, C.U.T. Company President H.A. Worcester, Col. Henry Waite, Chief Engineer for C.U.T. Company, George Dent Crabbs, Vice President of C.U.T. Company, Alfred Fellheimer, chief architect for the project, and former Cincinnati Mayor Murray Seasongood, who held office at the start of the project.
Other notables in attendance were the mayors and officials of neighboring cities and towns, the entire engineering staff of the Cincinnati Union Terminal Company, prominent Cincinnati area businessmen, as well as Irwin Krohn, President of the Park Board and his fellow park commissioners.
Following remarks by various dignitaries, the handover of the key to Mayor Wilson, and a flag presentation ceremony by the American Legion, the doors to the new terminal were thrown open at 3 p.m. for public inspection.
The Times-Star observed that “A note of newness prevailed at the Terminal exercise. Everything from beginning to end was spick and span. All of the accommodations in and about the terminal were fresh. The Cincinnati Street Railway Company operated new special busses on the terminal service. Taxicabs were all ‘dressed up’ and the spirit of newness grew upon the observer.”
The Chamber of Commerce produced an 88-page booklet containing photographic views of the interior and exterior of the new Union Terminal which was available at the ceremonies and which “attracted widespread attention.”
In the forward to its booklet, the Chamber called the new facility a great temple of transportation and wrote that “The Cincinnati Union Terminal has come into being, a perfectly coordinated instrument for the swift dispatch and acceleration of passenger, freight, express and postal traffic. The long, tortuous course of its progress from inception to completion constitutes one of the finest epics in American industrial achievement.” The forward also noted that although dedicated to public use and the promotion of the general welfare, the terminal also was a monument to the idealism, artistry, and courage of the people who made it a reality.
That evening, after the crowds had gone, a celebration banquet was held at the Netherland Plaza, Mayor Wilson serving as the master of ceremonies. One of the speakers, former Governor of West Virginia, John J. Cornwell, congratulated the city on its great achievement, but added a note of cold reality when he said “I should say it [the terminal] came after the need, to some degree, had passed, for the decline of more than 50 percent in railroad passenger business has left expensive passenger stations in this country standing as monuments to civic spirit and unfulfilled railroad expectations.” He said he was hopeful that the magnificent new terminal would stimulate travel to and from the city and that the unified operation of the railroads would result in a savings justifying the expenditures.

Bechloe Prompt - Chloe always come home stressed and tired, but the only highlight of her day/night is listening to her neighbor playing piano. One day/night while listening to her neighbor playing piano, it abruptly comes to a halt and Chloe gets worried (the last song played and Chloe heard being "Lighthouse - Hush Sound"). One week later with no music, Chloe decides to check up on her neighbor.
[A/N: A/N: This took forever and I’m really sorry. But hey, I’m not used to writing piano stuff… except for I kind of am. I’m actually going to link a fic that I’m super proud of. It’s not done yet, but it also centers a piano.]
—> THE BROKEN PIANO
—> SUBMIT PROMPTS HERE
She always thought the piano was too grand a structure. Its looming frame would take up half of any room that it was placed in. It stole the center stage, drawing all attention to the embossed instrument. Someone who sat at the red studded seat with great posture and strong commitment wasn’t someone Chloe wanted to be.
That didn’t’ mean she despised her neighbor; in fact, she admired the musical prestige that would often float through open windows like the notes that hung heavily in the air. The breeze seemed to shift them like eyes steadily flicking across sheet music.
Chloe would often settle herself against the window seat on the second floor of her old Victorian. She had long ago done away with the screen, letting her leg hang into the open air as her focus shifted to her own work of grading papers.
Her mysterious neighbor always seemed to be fiddling with something- tuning up her instrument or running through the same few bars over and over again. Chloe didn’t seem to mind; her eyes would clench shut and her fingers would tap absently to the beat that edged through the mostly empty suburban street.
In the summer the notes were lighter; they matched the warm air and the scent of honeysuckle that always took up more than half of Georgia. When the weather shifted to a cold heaviness, so did her neighbor’s music. The pianist would lean heavily on the further ends of the instrument, notes deep and dark.
She balanced the mug within her grasp, eyes watering as she gulped down a healthy amount of red wine- it was soft and sour all at once. Chloe had curled herself along the edge of the window once more but without any papers. There was no resolve left in her patience to pick out the grammatical mistakes that one too many made. Instead, she waited for the music.
Her neighbor worked like a clock, though, Chloe had never seen much of the stranger. The darker side of the young teacher wanted to admit that she sprung up quickly from her mattress each time a golden yellow mix of headlights shown through her bedroom window.
It was part of the allure, though, not knowing exactly who played such heavenly music.
She felt the cold bite of midnight air, letting her head rest against the wood paneling of the window seat. She didn’t mind the cold so much, the light dose of alcohol warmed her skin. Yet, it seemed almost habit to run her free hand up her arm, tracing the pattern of old tattoos often covered up nowadays.
The notes started in a slow and haunting tune, a mix between sharps and flats. The pianist let the music flow, Chloe watching carefully as the sheer curtains lay evenly over a solid window. Warm light bathed the grass in front of the opening. The stranger laid heavily on the keys- Chloe could almost feel the passion put into each note, her fingers tightening against the mug.
There was an earth-shattering crunch. Not one of broken glass, or metal wrapped around a tree at an intersection a few blocks away from her house- no, it was sour notes. Keys all pressed at once as the mysterious stranger weighted everything on the musical instrument.
Chloe drew in a breath so sharp that it burned her throat. She had almost dropped the novelty glass she picked up on her way to Wyoming. It was a little gas station in Limon Colorado, a place that was a mix between a convenient store and a tourist trap. It had worked well enough- being the only thing the redhead had seen worthwhile between civilization and Kansas.
She blinked a few times, staring at the inky shadow that stood in front of the window. She couldn’t quite see an outline, as more of a dark shape. The curtains hugged the frame, two solid arms reaching up as they grasped at the sill, pulling it down with a shaking slam.
Chloe pushed herself harder into the wall, almost as if she was afraid of getting caught. She had never heard the pianist end so abruptly, had never grit her teeth to the point of pain at the sounds that wafted from across the street.
They’re having a bad night she figured glumly, not letting her disappointment of the silence get to her. She had to get to bed anyway, it was too late, even for her.
Her fingers tightened around the steering wheels, knuckles a sickly white against the grey interior. She was trying to talk herself out of this, it was lack of sleep, it was her pure need to be the star of a lifetime movie involving something other than clean-cut weddings- Hell, Chloe didn’t’ know why.
She didn’t know why she was drumming her thumbs against the dashboard as she wiggled around in her seat. Her sapphire eyes snapped up to the rearview mirror every once and a while. She was parked in her driveway, not pulling all the way into her cold garage.
This was ridiculous.
So, what if her neighbor hadn’t played music in upwards of a week? So, what if her mail was collecting on a molded welcome mat? So, what if her grass almost reached the numbers on her mailbox- weeds wicking through the cracks in the driveway.
Okay, so maybe Chloe was a little bit more than curious. But that didn’t’ explain why she had to keep herself from stepping out of her Honda Civic and dashing across the street to knock on a stranger’s door.
She missed the music desperately, and overall, she missed the warmth that it provided with its simple construction. Whoever was behind that grand piano felt with every inch of themselves, made Chloe feel.
Chloe steeled her nerves as she grasped the handle to her car, pulling herself into the cold air. She left a stainless water bottle filled with coffee on her roof- if I’m murdered, they’ll know I wasn’t intending to be.
Her thoughts ate at her bitterly as she pulled back her shoulders and tried to walk across the street. The school teacher cringed at how loud and truth-calling her heels were against the pavement. Sure, a suit like this was a power move at the moment, but not the greatest for sneaking.
She palmed the shoes, used to the rough and chilled pavement under her socks.
Countless papers were stacked in the gutter in front of the large house, the shutters a deep navy against the slate rafters. There was a stained-glass window that was blocked by a large oak, and a car untouched in the driveway. The grass tickled at her legs as she stepped over the offending mail- not sure if she should knock, or if it was considered rude to even touch the stuff.
Her fingers were shaking like she had never spoken to a neighbor before- she had. The old woman to her left had a pension for figuring out about any fling she brought home, and the lovely couple to the right were trying for their second child. But all of them had a mutual understanding not to disturb an artist at work.
Chloe drew in a breath, one that ripped into her throat as she let her knuckles connect with the wooden door. It seemed too hollow, too empty. She took an instinctive step back, tucking her arms around her as she rocked on her mostly bare feet.
This is a stupid idea, they’re not home.
The thought echoed in her mind. Of course, there was a reason that this person wasn’t answering the door- she almost let out a breath of relief. She had done her civic duty and checked on the neighbor that vanished out of nowhere. Good. Now she can go home and eat that salad she made at the beginning of the week.
That’s when the door opened. Its metal hinges creaked and groaned like the ghost of Christmas past. An unfamiliar warmth pushed past the doorframe as Chloe’s stomach dropped. She could catch the faint scent of vanilla and the musty edge of ink.
A woman stood in front of her, a few inches shorter as she leaned against the door. She had a strong frame, shoulders held back in confidence. She held onto the iron doorknob, a black t-shirt stretched over her stature, grey joggers ending in mismatched fuzzy socks. An innocent person who didn’t’ look so scary- her eyes such a deep midnight that they were almost an inky black.
She squinted, scratching at the back of her head as a few strands of brown hair fell from a messy top bun. “Can I help you?” Her voice was raspy. Sexy.
“I just uh,” Chloe said, “I didn’t’ think I would get this far.”
The stranger lifted her pointed brow, the ghost of a smirk pulling at her lips. “Ah, I see, trying to get the neighborhood recluse out of her house?”
“No!” she rushed, a little too quickly. “I just… I heard you playing last week, and you stopped so suddenly, and your mail has been collecting- like, what if you dropped dead or something? I couldn’t’ not check on you.”
She was laughing. The woman was laughing at how flustered Chloe became- she must have looked like she was mad. Her shoes were still clenched in her hand, her blouse was half pulled from the hem of her pants with all the nervous fidgeting she had subjected herself to.
“That was very kind of you,” The beautiful woman spoke, dragging her thumb along the edge of her eye “I didn’t die, promise.”
She whispered the last word. It sent Chills up Chloe’s spine, one that made her once again trace the ink that graced her arm during a simpler time- the stranger guiding her stare to the exact spot Chloe had called attention to. “I like your tattoo.”
“Thanks.” She said.
“Got any more?” She leaned forward slightly, squinting her eyes “Can I see them?”
“Depends on if you’re the type of composer who runs of coffee.”
The woman scoffed, stepping aside as she let the door creak even louder. Chloe almost flushed at her own words. She was never too forwards when it came to stuff like this- but it felt different. Like she knew this woman for years just based on the music flowing through a grand piano.
Maybe she did know her, maybe they both knew.

I was in high school and I was going to a gas station when this older fellow held the door open for me. He did it in this grand gesture, with one arm held out wide and the other holding the door. For some reason my brain registered that this guy wanted a hug, and instead of thinking it be weied and creepy for a strange old man to hug a 16 year old girl he doesn know, I give him a hug. Within about 3 weeks of being back in the UK my chin, jawline, and quite a bit of my cheeks were covered in these small, little whiteheads that when popped seemed to be filled more with clear fluid than pus. I also noticed that, when picked at, a weird film that I'm not quite sure how to describe would form over the area, which I had never experienced previously. How I began to think this was different than any acne I had in the past was that the affected areas itched. I bought some hydrocolloid bandages for acne last week. Game Changer! I have been putting them on all sorts of things on my skin and they work. A couple of zits, one that had head and the other more cystic. But in popular parlance, I think this scene alone has really helped reshape people notions of the character of Hector. 장수출장마사지 You see tons of people talk about how Hector was the real hero, how the petulant crybaby Achilles got what he deserved in the end, and all of that. And of course Hector was honorable in the original story, and Achilles was still a jerk, but that just wasn quite the point. I slept under blankets in Civic Center Park before. And I been 장수출장마사지 one of the women living the story you described, about having to choose between being seen and possibly approached by police versus staying in more secluded and therefore dangerous places. I get how that struggle goes. When we first started dating, I didn have friends because I was new to the state, I was literally on the opposite coast of the US. So I just hung out with him because I had no one else to hang with. We moved in together after about 9 months and have lived together ever since. It my life and livelihood. My specific personal bias is that the issues I care about should be taken care of and I vote for someone who will. And Conservatives will do the same for them. In the photo, the star is wearing a face mask with the caption: "Treat Ya Self Tuesday When in doubt, face masks are EVERYTHING. The actress always looks stunning, and her skin is eternally smooth and glowy. Luckily for anyone who doesn't appear to be out of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Berry recently shared one of her antiaging secrets on Instagram. Oh hm, strange. I got pet insurance through Nationwide as a benefit through work and it includes the wellness plan. I had to get a fair amount of documentation to prove that the behaviorist was recommended by a vet before we got the sessions scheduled but they eventually covered 90% of it.. He raised me the best he could. He worked a lot to make the money to do it, but always found time to go do things together. He sacrificed a lot for me. As far as application, I would definitely avoid matte and liquid lipsticks for a beginner. Go for the classic sticks or crayons. I find that exfoliating my lips with a sugar scrub before applying lipstick makes it go on smoother and less patchy. Plot sucked the life out of me but I enjoyed Eddie Redmayne. The whole salamander eyes thing was cute. They did Queenie and Jacob dirty, with the latter having absolutely nothing to do in this sequel due to the addition of new characters.

Approaching its 100th anniversary, the building is perfectly poised for redevelopment and a return to its former glory.Īnchor & Pillar is the real estate development firm behind this project. Surrounded by historic civic and church buildings, the location has served as a community mainstay, bringing people together in downtown Albemarle. From its warm and stately hotel rooms to its fine dining lobby restaurant, the hotel was a picture of class and southern hospitality. The Hotel has been a landmark icon since its opening in 1923. The Hotel building is positioned in the center of downtown, surrounded by local shops and only a block from the new Pfeiffer University Center for Health Sciences. This project is bringing the Historic Albemarle Hotel back to life. The Stanly County Public Library moved into the retail space in 1927 and the first local radio station, WABZ, began its broadcast from the hotel basement in 1947. It also boasted retail space housing a clothing store and barber shop. The first floor contained a ballroom, dining room and a grand lobby filled with fine furniture. The space was used by civic organizations such as the Civitan, Rotary, Lions, Optimist club, and the Chamber of Commerce just to name a few. Thanks to numerous local shareholders, construction was completed in 1923 and the hotel became the city’s business, civic, and destination travel stop for many years. The Stanly News Harold's words became a self-fulfilling prophesy as members of the community rallied quickly around the new development. “It will mean a new start toward building up Albemarle.”
