Citrus isn't ending in August, and let me tell you why

We're mid-arc. This arc is about Mei's new fiance after Mei finds out that she truly is head over heels with Yuzu. Yes, this arc could be over in a chapter with the Manager giving up Mei to be happy with Yuzu. Truth be told, he doesn't know that they're in love and just wants to see them be happy

We have an unspoken arc to tackle. Grandfather. We know how he acted when Yuzu showed up at his home, we know that Mei didn't want the picture of her kissing Matsuri to end up with him, we know that he's controlling and wants Mei to marry someone of his choosing. He's not just going to step aside to let them be happy

Ume told Shou to step the fuck up as a father. Has he? No. Will he? I sure as hell hope so

THE WEDDING

They still need to finish high school and graduate

Gays in college? I think YES

Does Mei become the new headmaster? Does Yuzu become a teacher alongside her?

Any other unspoken arcs with characters we don't know yet

Citrus Art Challenge Week 5: Extra-curricular activity

After re-skimming my way through Citrus, it's interesting to contrast to the recent spate of "damaged teenagers in fucked up relationships" that have had quite a few anime adaptations these past few years (most notably, Scum's Wish). Citrus has its characters quickly mature out of those unhealthy dynamics way faster than the characters of series actually of that genre, lol. Really, Citrus only had the appearance of that kind of series in the beginning, but its intent was just a more normal romance arc. My guess is that Sabrouta included those elements in the early chapters just to justify the sobalicious physical interactions. But as soon as the romance actually got going, the sensual artwork evoked the same passionate emotions from the readers via emotional altercations rather than physical ones. After volume 4, almost every hug or kiss gets portrayed at a distance/partially off panel/at an obscure angle. I think it's mainly the execution of the Himeko arc that tainted Citrus for everyone who didn't stick around. The opening arc was salacious, sure, but it also set up some clear character arcs that could have been dealt with in a critically acceptable way, and the salacious bits were in service of that. You can see the critically acceptable point the Himeko arc was going for (which is that Yuzu is a horny teenager whose horniness temporarily makes her selfish) in hindsight. However, the way Momokino as a character is executed in that arc was way over the top, all Oniisama E stuff. Except that Oniisama E was Class S, so it didn't have sobalicious physical interactions on top of that, and the combination is what made the end product feel skeezy in Citrus. If volume 2 had played Momokino as more overtly platonic, not jumping to physical claims of ownership to demonstrate her jealousy, then I think the perception of Citrus would have been quite different. I quite like the Matsuri arc as is, so the Himeko arc should have been a little bit of a palate cleanser (compare to the way Sara doesn't try to jump Mei even when she has romantic feelings for her). Instead, the first 4 volumes basically do validate the joke people had that it had a sexual assault every chapter for fanservice, between every combination of character. Yuzu and Mei making mistakes and being overly aggressive in their hapless horniness is on point for their characters. Matsuri fucking around is also on point for her character. But Himeko is basically a completely different character after volume 2, and she is not one of the ones who should be a part of the casual body language. She's meant to represent the broader world where sex is second to responsibility. (See, for example, how Sabrouta doesn't make the same mistake with Shirapon.)

So, guys

Chapter 41 drops this month. Although I think it's a (false) rumor that it'll be ending, I have some things I want to talk about if this truly is the end.

First thing's first: This has been a fantastic journey with you all. I've loved every chapter of this story and I love all the characters. I love this fandom and the people in it. I wish I had joined sooner so I could see their relationship flourish with everyone else, but I'm glad I got to see the end with everyone here.

Next: I'm going to be creating my own mini comic to cover the wedding, should we never get to see it. We will see the nerds get married. I swear this to you.

Also: I want you all to know that I'm proud to know everyone I've met through this fandom. I know it probably doesn't mean much, but everyone I've ever spoken to has been very polite and kind to one another.

Finally: It's been a good run. Of course, I would have loved it if Citrus could go on forever, but everything has to end eventually. I just feel that it's premature. If anyone would like to discuss anything with me, my messages are always open and here's the link to my Citrus discord

2 citrus questions! One, do you have a favorite special/extra chapter from the series? i think mine might be the one where Yuzu makes Shirapon laugh at her house. Two, would you ever consider doing a patreon or something like that you for your citrus content? thanks for all you contribute to the fandom!! i love your fics and your art!

oof, great question! I had to put some serious consideration into my final picks.  I would say my favs specials are: the amusement park special, the one where Yuzu tickles Mei and fails, and the one where Mei forces herself to eat spicy curry to feel closer to Yuzu. 

Haha, what a beautiful idiot. (and the thought that she probably had to rush to the bathroom later while trying to look dignified and shoving her way through admirers wanting to chat her up is just too damn amusing)

Oh! And the one where Mei and Harumi get caught in the rain and talk about Yuzu! Then Yuzu runs up looking like a wet tropical fish and Harumi and Mei get a case of the gays. Loved that one! The one with shirapon is also up there because I love shirapon and Yuzu’s goofy face!

And thank you for the second question, its flattering to think one person out there might support me in that capacity! I don’t think I’ll ever go the patreon route, simply because I am a bit selfish when creating content? Like, I only draw/write things that I really wanna see for myself, you know? And at my own pace. If people were paying me for content, I’d probably fold from pressure like tissue paper and lose motivation. Also, I don’t think I really produce enough content to warrant one. 

tl;dr, I'm happy to create free Citrus content cuz I feel like it!
