Bitter Orange
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scientific Names: Citrus aurantium (Synonyms: C. vulgaris, C. amara, C. bigarradia) Other Common Names: Seville orange oil, sour orange, green orange, bitter orange oil (from the peel), neroli oil (from the flower). Overall Safety: 😐
Therapeutic Efficacy and Considerations:
Weight Loss: 😐 Now that ephedra is no longer permitted in weight loss supplements, bitter orange is often being used as a substitute. It’s effectiveness for weight loss is unknown; it has been used in only one clinical trial, but that was in combination with caffeine and St. John’s Wort in patients who were following a controlled diet and exercise regimen. The treatment group did see a slightly greater weight loss (1.4 kg) after 6 weeks. Current evidence is not sufficient to support a recommendation for weight loss. Although bitter orange may carry a slightly lower overall cardiovascular risk than ephedra, there is not yet enough evidence to state this with any certainty. Normal dose is 975 mg (6%synephrine extract) per day used in conjunction with other agents.
Topical Fungal Infections: 😐 One clinical trial has compared 3 topical preparations of bitter orange to an imidazole cream in patients with tinea corporis, cruris, and pedis. Severe methodological limitations restrict the usefulness of the trial’s results, in which 100% bitter orange oil and a 25% bitter orange emulsion both achieved clinical cure (mycological cure rate unreported) by 3 weeks. Although further research is warranted, currently the evidence is not sufficient to support a general recommendation for use. Normal dose is 100% oil once daily for 1-3 weeks or 25% emulsion three times a day for 3 weeks.
Chemistry/Pharmacology: Bitter orange contains multiple components. Those believed to be primarily responsible for sympathomimetic effects are synephrine and N-methyltyramine. Both are vasoconstrictors; synephrine is not a potent as epinephrine but has a longer duration. Synephrine increases norepinephrine release from the sympathetic nerves. Synephrine does not cross the blood-brain barrier to the extent that ephedrine does, due to lower lipophilicity, and this may explain the lower incidence of CNS side effects. Animal studies have demonstrated decreased food intake and weight, but with serious cardiovascular complications and death. Hesperidin, neohesperidin, tangeratin, natudaidain, and nobiletin are some of the flavone components and the volatile oil contains linalool and limonene, among other ingredients. Overall, plant extracts have been found to be cardioactive, with increases in contractility, while smooth muscle contraction in the GI tract in inhibited. Two components seem to have mast cell stabilizing effects, although the clinical significance of this activity has not been established.
Drug Interactions: Serious cardiovascular risks are possible when used with other STIMULANTS. MOAIs can increase the risk of hypertensive crisis. Antagonistic effects occur when used with antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive agents. Additive effects occur with photosensitizing agents. Bitter orange is a CYP450 3A4 inhibitor. Felodipine and dextromethorphan concentrations are significantly increased, but indinavir concentrations are not. Because effects are variable, bitter orange should be avoided or used very cautiously with any 3A4 metabolized drugs.
Contraindications/Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with narrow angle glaucoma, cardiac arrhythmias, and uncontrolled hypertension. Use with caution in pregnancy/lactation (due to unknown effects). Bitter orange could be a trigger, due to synephrine content, for migraineurs. Since the increase in use of bitter orange in dietary supplements (due to the ban of ephedrine alkaloids-containing products), there have been additional case reports of stroke and syncope with QT prolongation associated with use of bitter orange. All three cases of cardiovascular adverse events have occurred in patients using “ephedra-free” supplements for weight loss or energy that combined bitter orange with caffeine and other herbs with diuretic, vasoconstrictive, or general stimulatory actions.
Adverse Effects: Few reports of adverse events exist to date, but include photosensitivity, headache, insomnia, nervousness, indigestion, and skin irritation (with topical use). Due to the synephrine content, increased blood pressure and increased risks of heart attack, stroke, and seizures are possible. Risks can be further increased when bitter orange is used in conjunction with caffeine or other stimulants. One case report does document a myocardial infarction in a previously healthy person after a year's use of bitter orange in combination.

Plant Classification and Scientific Naming
Tumblr media
Classification of plants
✪ The scientific or botanical names of plants are internationally recognised ✪ These names are useful for herbalists as it ensures we are getting the plant we actually want from a manufacturer ✪ Carolus Linnaeus (Swedish botanist) established the modern plant classification system back in 1753 ✩ His system divides plants into species ⋆ A species of plant has plants which share morphological features, and they can interbreed ⋆ Closely related species are grouped together as a genus ⋆ Within a genus, plants with similar characteristics and origins then move together into groups called families ⋆ Families are subdivided into orders ⋆ Orders are subdivided into classes ⋆ Classes are subdivided into divisions ⋆ And finally, from a division we reach the kingdom
Understanding the Scientific Names - Latin Binomial
✪ A plant’s scientific (botanical) name is a Latin binomial (two-part name)
✪ The first word indicates the genus and the second word indicates the particular species in a genus. The genus always has a capital letter and the species has a lower case letter. Both words are written in italics. Eg, Peppermint’s scientific name is Mentha spicata. Mentha (the genus) and spicata (the species).
✪ Sometimes after the genus you might see the letters sp. or spp. and these indicate one specie or several species of a particular genus. So, if we are talking about Mints in general we might talk about the Mentha spp. ✩ ssp. is used to denote a subspecies (eg Lavender angustifolia ssp. angustifolia and Lavender angustifolia ssp. pyrenaica) Yes, it’s confusing. ✩ You may also see the abbreviation var. which is used to indicate the variety. Eg Citrus aurantium var. amara (Petitgrain). ✩ Since plants within a species can interbreed, we can also denote hybrids. Hybridisation is indicated with an x between the genus and the species for example, Mentha x piperita var. piperita.
What’s in a name?
✪ Plant and family names are subject to change. This can happen when a new discovery is made or classifications progress. For example, in old German texts Chamomile is listed as Matricaria recutita, whilst in newer books it’s listed as Matricaria chamomilla.
✪ Family names have also seen changes. Eg, the Compositae family is now the  Asteraceae family. The Cruciferae family is now the Brassicaceae family. The Umbelliferae family became the Apiaceae family. The Libiatae family is now the Lamiaceae family.
✪ Most herbs come from the families above, so being aware of their name changes is important because some people have a family specific allergy.
✪ You may notice other letters after the scientific name and these indicate the botanical authority who named the plant. Sometimes the botanist’s initial will be in brackets and this indicates that there has been a name change for some reason.
✪ The Latin words used in the naming of plants can be fascinating and confusing! Some words are taken from classical mythology. For example, the herb Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Achillia comes from the Greek Achilles.
✪ Sometimes the Latin word will refer to the plant’s geography or habitat. For example, montana means growing on mountains, riparius means growing by rivers and streams whilst hydrocotyle means living in the water.
✪ The name could also indicate where they were found - sinensis for China, californica for California.
✪ Early botanists also named herbs after their uses! For example, cardiaca for the heart, catharticus helping to purge, and for the plants which had officially entered the pharmacopoeia (of medicinal plants) - officinalis.
✪ The names are often Greek in origin. Anethum from the Greek antethon meaning dill or anise. Some names commemorate a historical figure or botanist.
✪The name may also hint at the anatomy of the plant for example Hypericum perforatum. Perforatum refers to the little perforations found on leaves. Yarrow (millefolium)  refers to mille -thousand, folium -leaf. A reflection of the distinct feathery leaves.
✪ The colour of the plant is also used in the names, eg, purpureus (purple), viridis (green), albidus (white),  niger (black),  caeruleus (blue), ruber (red).
✪ And finally, the name can also give us a clue to the fragrance of the plant. Odorata means sweet smelling whereas feotidus means foul smelling.

Note
I just thought that Henry would want to name his daughters after flowers, you know? Rose, Lily (it's not my real name so it's not self-indulgent), Hiacynth, Marguerite, Violet, Poppy, Daisy etc... 😭
(( I also googled male flower names but tbh the only normal one is Basil 🤣 ))
Oh my god, he so would. I know we were talking about flower pet names, but flower names given to children is so much more special. I'm gonna list all the flower names I see Henry would logically name his child, that isn't so outlandish like Chrysanthemum or something (sorry if your name is Chrysanthemum). Also, because I really love baby names and etymology.
NOTE: I got carried away, so others, feel free to use this as resource if you'd like it.

the kitsch diet part II
part one alr posted!! this chunk is about 3,000~ words long... let me know what u think :-) thank u all for all the luv already!!! looks like I really will hit 31 followers by easter!!!!!!!!
  Who is the Kitsch Girl?
I think this is more loosely defined, but The Chic Diet did a truly admirable way of reducing a girl to her YSL bag and her really skinny legs. Now, that implies an archetype, or a population in a specific location. I think kitschness is kind of the niche you fill when you’re not really much of anything else, sort of your own conglomerate of mainstream-specific. One major requirement, though, is being a little too into something somewhat uncool. And the whole illusion falls apart if you have any sort of outward insecurity. See, the Kitsch Girl is somewhat undefinable because she is so much of everything. She exists in multitudes, in a way that is also quite simple to understand; think of a list of axioms, or principles to live by. And now add a section to each one that says “but…” to make a collection of verified exceptions. Say, the kitsch girl will never wear jeans. But she thrifted this pair of vintage flares she just loves. She doesn’t reply to texts efficiently, but sometimes she will within a couple seconds. No mascara, no dinner forks, candles are to be collected not burned; but that was a gift, or something. It’s not personal, of course, those are just the contradictions she exists in. Don’t try to understand it, the enigma is essential to the facade. Or maybe she just lives like this, and her character is so homogenous with her inner world there’s no sense in trying to separate it. You have to have a little bit of an individuality complex about the whole ordeal, which is normally so eugh, but if you’re kitschy enough it works on you. Trust! The Kitsch girl is not someone unlikeable, but amiable and well heeled. I double checked that last one, assuming it meant liked by most, but apparently means affluent. I suppose that is an aspect of the kitsch girl too, having seemingly endless frivolous expenses with no real strain, but that’s not important right now. People that don’t like her think so out of jealousy, or something. Envious that her clothes are all kind of shake-it-up-esque and her highlights desperately need touching up, but she still seems so enthralled with the whole of life… How does she enjoy her own company so much when other people want to know her better? Doesn’t she feel weird about blowing people off to make a joke about reading Kafka in the bath? Why would she document her cluttered, unexciting life on Instagram so delicately, so vibrantly? Of course, no one would say this to her face because they are really baseless claims. She’s nice, generous, and valuable to have as a friend. Trade-offs exist, as they do with anyone. But I like thinking it’s easier to overlook a forgotten birthday when your kitschy best friend gave you a multi strand pearl necklace to celebrate the welcome breeze of June. Or some other made-up holiday. She is so unassuming if you’re not really looking. Girls want in on her inner circle. Or they just don’t care. Nothing wrong with being liked or thought of naught, for the most part. Boys are either enthralled or repulsed by her. Her doctor knows her as something of a hypochondriac, but only minorly. It’s just carpal tunnel, don’t worry… The sales staff at CVS turn a blind eye when she slips an eyeliner pencil into her tote bag. She shoplifts on occasion, just to see if she still knows how. But she is not a shoplifter. $9 here and $6.45 there doesn’t really add up to much. Everywhere she goes, she makes a tertiary friend or two. The term of friend is loosely used here, of course. But it is nice to tell a stranger you like her earrings. Or her phone case is so fun, is it Wildflower? The kitsch girl has an eye for this kind of detail. Simply put, she is sort of unspectacular. But in a way that makes you sort of wish you knew her better.
Phone cases
The phone case is, like, religious for the kitsch girl. Sorry, but there’s just no other accessory as flippant and expensive and single-purpose as a trendy little iPhone case with some semitacky stickers plastered over the design. I used to have an iPhone XS- extrasmall-  with like, 18 phone cases. It was kind of a sordid affair. I jest, but really… owning that many phone cases was kind of sick. We get it, you are frivolous and spontaneous and sooo stylish! Stop posting mirror selfies on your Instagram story, your crush isn’t going to see it. Kidding again. Having an extensive collection of phone cases is just so fun because while attainable, most people just simply do not partake in it. That makes you kitschy and unique. I really thought I had more to say about the IDEA of the phone case, but I guess in practice it is all very, very simple. You can slide your driver’s license in the back of a clear case. At what point does it stop being cool to have legal operational control of a vehicle? I don’t display mine because I don’t really like the photo. I look round. In the eyes but also just in general, swollen, unglamorous. Whatever. Not like I drive a Nissan or anything. I drive my *Mom’s* Nissan. Playing Bladee in the car seems sacrilegious. She would hate it.Back to phone cases. Sonix ones are cute but kind of overpriced retail- unless you have like, an iPhone 12 Pro Max or whatever the fuck is new this year, just go to Winner’s. They always have Xs and 11 cases. I had a cherry one for my previous phone, like the exact one Lana Del Rey had? Thank god I sold it before she got outed as a copfucker or whatever. Casetify is for an inadvertent flex. Flexing your lame, lame taste. Sorry, I know you bought it because you liked it, but what you failed to consider is just how un-Kitsch they are. SO common, and they advertise on Instagram. Sorry, I just can’t get into it! Kind of how I just never liked the Brandy Amara tanks. Or lowtop converse. Otterbox is just distressing. Like, if my boyfriend gave me an otterbox phone case I would probably break up with him because somebody clearly isn’t paying attention- one of my favorite, potentially overused joke is how Otterbox cases are the equivalent of orthopedic insoles. Sorry but if you have poor arch support or whatever, but no pain is worth giving up a good pair of Margiela slingback tabi heels. Obviously I couldn’t afford that right now because all loose income goes directly to Wildflower and my cig boy. But like, one day. I hope you want to punch me in the face a little bit after reading that.  If Wildflower isn’t your thing, at least have the decency to get a beaded phone strap. But not from String Ting. Pray tell you aren’t keeping score, but they are one of my several parasocial enemies. That should have been ME collaborating with Wildflower! Should have been ME mailing shit to Caroline Calloway (more on her later, but she is the only blue check I follow. I adore her! I was on her patreon for a bit I thinkl!!) …. Side note. Phone cases are cute but there is no way to properly protect your laptop without looking just absurd or colossally lame. The foam sleeves… ick.
Having the shittiest music taste ever
So like, here’s the thing. I’m an Apple Music user, which sort of reinstates my status as an unironic My Bloody Valentine Hyperpop Death Grips kinda gal. Read; volcel. My most recent conquest ended up being a huge L on my part, but also… I totally dodged a bullet. The guy had an iPhone 11 (female trait) and didn’t know who Rei Brown was, which just seemed suspicious given his Niche. I just know he had a “making out playlist” comprising entirely of like, Joji. Which isn’t a bad thing I guess but so unembarrassing it horseshoes back to being humiliating.Like I said. Having the worst music taste. It’s nice how subjective and deeply personal your music taste can be; no one really Needs to know you’re a die hard drainer. But there’s also no point in being a die-hard drainer and Not capitalizing off it somehow. I added it up and I have well over 150 hours of just Bladee and Yung Lean. Which is so yass? The more I write, using myself as a case study, I realize just how desperately jobless I am. And Yogenfruz isn’t even hiring! UGH!I think there is something very kitschy about liking hyperpop in the least ironic, least obnoxious way. Sort of feeds into a “I’m not like other girls” thing, but I mean… That’s kind of the idea of kitsch, isn’t it? Be a little different but also the very same as your lipgloss brethren?!Side note. If you make monthly playlists I am genuinely kind of afraid of you. That is just so organized!! I just make playlists with esoteric titles and then make a new one when I’m sick of the stuff on the last. I have exhausted most genres but I think my favorite is the “I’m wearing f****ng air forces and my teeth are SO white”. Guess what genre it is. Or don’t, but it’s probably what you think is. Okay, moving on….
Curating a scent
I like thinking I smell like mango and peach, Glossier you, whatever citrus is in that Lush shower jelly and mint 5Gum. But of course it is probably less distinct and just kind of generally fruit-floral-mint. Anyway. I think Glossier You is the perfect scent for anyone with a rather elementary understanding of the whole.. Perfume business. Every bottle of intentional fragrance I own was made via aesthetic choices… it really helps that Glossier You is so cute And so universal. Now, Glossier is kind of interesting to me because it really is at the intersection of cheugy and kitsch. Kind of basic, overplayed, unspectacular. But also…. Often popular things are popular because they are good. Glossier has excellent customer suurv, they ship SO fast (and no import duties! W!) and their stuff is just so sweet and nice if not unoriginal, in kind of the same way strawberry ice cream is. Which is still my favorite, of course, especially if there’s a vegan option. I was talking about Glossier. What the hell! It’s really worth trying out. A huge principle of kitsch is just… having as many possible layers and appendages to your composure as possible. And adding a signature scent just really completes that! When curating your own, I say this as a complete amateur, know-nothing; make it something that comes kind of naturally to Your Character. Like, I’m just not a Chanel No 5 kind of girl. Odds are you aren’t either. My bottle (before she asked for it back when I told her I didn’t use it, in exchange for a Nordstrom’s gift card) was from my grandmother. Ummm.. Yeah, I really have no expertise in curating a scent. But it is nice to have a signature. And having a bottle displayed on your dresser next to your aughties McDonald milkshake themed beanie baby and a handful of lip products is just way too fun! This is the kind of girl I am, everyone! Cluttered, but prioritizing pretty-delicate things!
Cheugyism
Cheugy is a relatively new word that has unfortunately wormed into my vocabulary to replace “uncouth”. Which I use to mean graceless or tacky, but if that isn’t what it means…. Don’t tell me. That would hurt more than weighing myself after a “feast” slash pastry binge at my dear Grandmothe’s house. Like I was saying. Cheugy. It’s sort of a fucked up concept to me because it is a critique on consumption, but not the pace or volume or magnitude of it. But rather… the idea of not being “good” enough at engaging in microtrends, or involvement in the fast paced fashion cycle. Don’t get me started on TikTok, or do, but… yeah,. No. That will require a cigarette because I’m so sorry, but writing a thinkpiece on social media is so lowbrow I would need to find about six ways to aesthetically counteract it…. Moving on.  I think the idea of cheugy is good, we really do need a word to simply and efficiently define “out of date/uninspired/lame”. But the way it is used to shame others for not liking the same trends or whatever is kind of gross. If you use cheugyism to put other people down and not as a neutral identifier umm… you will become what you fear. Sorry, that’s what happens. Some things that I think are cheugy or embarrassing, or just not part of my stylistic lexicon are… 1. Hooded or zip up clothing, or things with a large graphic on the back. Bingo if it's all three! I just can’t get behind it. Side note, my summer home outfit is brandy sweats and a tube top (Urban Outfitters tank I ripped the straps off) and a large cardigan that should have belonged to a stoner, but probably didn’t. I can dunk on bulky, uninspired clothes because I would honest to God NEVER be caught DEAD out of the house wearing any of it. I’m so serious. Next segment should be about the kitsch girl’s inadvertent affinity for diuretics. Remind me….. One of the ports of my laptop is dead. Not really sure what to do about that.
Eye makeup and what it means to me….
Personally, I am one of those people who never wears foundation and kind of has a complex about it. The kitsch girl wears fluffy eyelashes and owns a plethora of sparkly eyeliner. Or maybe she doesn’t, but she has something distinct and a little ritzy, if not haphazard. We all saw Euphoria and it like, totally imprinted on us. The way glitter sits on your face after a long day is so resplendent. When it’s shining and a little bit melted off from your long, semi-productive day… ugh! Just made for film. Pictures on film. But not the Prequel app. I keep getting fucking ads for it. But it’s so embarrassing. Like, isn’t the whole point of film the authenticity of the moment? The texture of the afternoon? Why would you fabricate that? Prequel is just so cheugy. More on that later. But anyhow. Wearing a ton of eye makeup kind of fits with the idea of film too I think. Like, look at you, in the moment. With your strip lash falling off! It’s all so tres-chic. Plus, for whatever reason, it’s kind of unique or notably dedicated to ~Pull up to the function~ with more eye makeup on than everyone else. Sorry, but it really doesn’t take that long! But yes I will gracefully accept your praise… it’s kind of like the dropshipping of complements if you think about it. Easy to source with little to no effort in the curating. Side note, lashes are like $20 for 40 weeks if you cut them in half and use each pair about 5 times. You could probably do more but I lose track. How the fuck is it almost June? I was trudging through the snow to check the mail for my Online Ceramics shirt just last week, I swear. The trick to cutting your lashes (the way I do it anyway) is pretty simple. Get out two lashes that are symmetrical. Find the middle and cut one slightly to the left and one slightly to the right. This means you have two sets (one set is a little more dramatic than the other but at least they are symmetrical) with longer outer edges. Glue this to the outer corner of your eye and you will look so Composed… obsessed with how this layers with three eyeliner tails (one traditional one pointing up and one pointing down directly below it, sort of like the tail light on a 2019 Lexus UX) and one below your eye, like a clown. Fun, irrelevant fact, is the first time I added this third tail to my eye makeup, my dad had just gotten home from the hospital because he was sure he had like appendicitis or something and it was actually.. Not that. Typical indie hypochondriac. He made me bring him cottage cheese on a plate with a teaspoon that evening. I put black pepper on it for flair, which he hated. Walking up and down stairs with a plate of cottage cheese is much more imprinting than most of the multiplication tables. Don’t forget to use a bright shimmer eyeshadow in your inner corner. It really opens up your eyes. I recommend Too Faced.  One time I got a little bit too high and tried to film an “editorial” makeup tutorial. You will never, ever, ever see that video. But I essentially covered my whole eyelid in the ABH shadow “palermo” and smudged out the edges with a tan Tartelette Toasted shade, coupled with my long-expired Milk Makeup holographic stick. Lopsided lashes and near-blinding eyeliner experience aside, it was kind of cool. My point is, you really cannot go wrong with an arsenal of shimmers, taupey mattes and a good eyeliner pen.

coulorintro!
HI! you can call me piero or citrus. i’m a clown afficionado & owner, and this is my blog for everything clown-husbandry-related, including talking about my babies who i would live, kill, and die for.
🤡 here are the clowns i own! 🤡
LITTLE ONE - aka l.o. ! black, white, and grey mini plush/porcelain pierrot mutt. my beloved bucket kid, my ESC (emotional support clown). they’re a shelter rescue! cuddly and very sweet, currently trying to figure out headstands.
ARANCITA AMARA - aka soda slice, sourboy, etc! tropical-patterned mini bat harlequin mix. one of two minis me and my family had before i went to college. his mom was a family friend’s pet that had a surprisingly large litter of chucklets. fond of pranks— especially the classic creme pie routine— and pretending to be grumpy.
CALAMANSILLY - aka silly man or bapy fruit. tropical-patterned mini bat harlequin mix. second of the minis my family and i had. i took silly and sourboy with me when i finally moved out of the big city so l.o. could have some companionship. can and will try to sit on anyone’s head, including his siblings’; is currently trying to teach l.o. and beebo handstands.
🎪 here are some clowns i help care for! 🎪
BEEBO - my foster chucklet! a black/primary striped jingler party clown. has a single-slit bell which is unfortunately the result of poor purebreeding practice. can’t walk too far on their own yet but that hasn’t stopped them from attempting to mimic the tricks of the house minis.
THE TROUPE OF LADIES - aka the tol girls. a group of three well-loved fancy clowns that i care for on behalf of a mostly-housebound neighbor. one sweets british clown (ladyfingers), one decora clown (melody), and one pink blush birthday clown (rosehip). 2/3s diva, all high-maintenance, all worth all the time i spend out of the house for them.
🎟 important stuff! 🎟
🤹🏽 i ask that truscum, radfems, homophobes, biphobes, anti-BLM/protests, right wing folk, “MAPs”/p*dos, etc. don’t follow me. being a bigot or a creep isn’t very whimsically cool of you.
🤹🏽 my pronouns & name are always in my description. i’m asian, trans, and autistic.
🤹🏽 my askbox is open! i will try to answer questions as best i can but PLEASE remember i’m not an expert.
———————————————————————
[ ooc: this blog is for funsies. don’t say any of this kind of stuff to actual working clowns, it’s weird and creepy. please specify ooc if you’re asking a question about real me, otherwise i’ll answer like citrus would! ]
the design for arancita amara was adopted from @aw-colorcat ! any other clown designs were created by me.

Character introduction. (TBA)
PROMPT:
(“ROUTINE”: Your muse is in their favorite location, indulging themselves with something they enjoy doing regularly.)
I AM SHE.   her body speaks through art .  I am she: untamed wilderness  ,    untended  ,   overgrown  .     Spirit of wind bind by peachy flesh and narrow bones          (    I am the river  ,     ever flowing ,    serene and unyielding  ,     and my feet move with the tide .    I am the wolf  ,    nestled deep in the woods ;   My heated body pulsates to the rhythm of the chase ,   and the bones in my back protrude and shift under my flesh  )
A scent of wild flowers and citrus floods the space where she lingers    — black mane scattered to the wind ,  bird-boned limbs swinging across hardwood tiles ,  laying flat and reviving with each note, each musical bump ; a victim of the strings that play through the old radio violently .   When she falls ,   it’s harsh and unkind, and never beautiful, like the world around her - the wood is unforgiving, merciless, and she loves the cold reality of her routine even as it bruises her palms and knees red .   With heaving lungs ,   she pulls a breath from her chest ,    a longing sigh, skin still flushed and warm  ,     and a long curtain of hair weighing down the arch of her spine .
When it is over and it is done,   she lays flat on her back and feels an immense sense of accomplishment, even as bile lodges down her throat and the soles of her feet ache. She was ready, she thinks. She was ready for today, and whatever it may bring.

you shall participate . you have one day to complete the order , if you do not you shall be punished and withdrawing is not allowed.
❪ ch ❫ ⠀:

❪ parts ❫ ⠀:
amara looks straight into the bronze  masked face of the man before her, his blade pinching the the run of her throat, yet fear does not settle in.. “_________________ what do you hope to get out of this? you’ve a long selection of people who you’ve hunted, disarrayed with drugs and abuses i don’t get why you’d come after us?”  she had thought to go to the police only to be brushed off as though she were a mad women. her  tone is matter of fact, so far the game had required a string of strange events  ( kiss the XXXXX statue on campus on the feet, lick a doorknob , shoplift at  a convenience store.) all that she completes on worry of her brother. she’s practiced physical defensives as well as mental, two aspects her brother had become unstable over.  there were things that if got out would reopen the chasms in his emotions. and so she becomes a knight for them both, and she does as they ask. she knows the golden fox has found interest in amir, and if she wants to save them she would play, for no matter how hard she tried to hide she had secrets as well. in now she waits for his answer, as she pushes her throat back on the blade to see if he’d actually cut her. for she had seen the slowness of him at times, the hunched guilt and tipsy emotions that rolled off him. “ ____________ you wear this mask jonathan to look like a beast, but what is more terrifying is looking at the face of a man who knows what he has been doing is wrong, that it tears him apart but he keeps doing it to belong to the person who has cast them aside.”  she can feel his hand bind her arm tighter rage striking down him like fire and in the hour that they have been muddled together  he speaks his first full statement on his own behalf. ____________ “ who are you to judge me? you and your brother as misfits, accented miscolored and unneeded.” he wants to break her now, he does not want to wait for lysander’s second step, in which she would be tired and punished. she was prying too deep and she needed to be blinded.

Tumblr media
Chris . . . still had a lot to get used to. His senses were still prone to being overwhelmed and it was . . . getting difficult to live his everyday life. Glasses and earplugs helped with the new sensitivity to light and sound. But it was his new sense of smell wasn’t something he could easily handle. At least not without looking like a complete idiot wearing noseplugs in public.
All manner of scents, good and bad, were flooding his nose and mixing to form nauseating concoctions. Strong enough that he felt they could’ve burned off the nose hairs in his nostrils.
He supposed he could only get used to it though. Forcing himself outside in an attempt to desensitize himself. And, well . . . he no longer actually threw up when passing the dumpster of the nearby seafood place. That was . . . something.
Fortunately, there were no restaurants on this street. Only those clothing stores with their massive front windows. Displays of mannequins donned in the sort of clothes he bet Mia would love if they could afford it. Maybe Amara could recommend something he could get her for Christmas? She worked only 3 stores down. Maybe she was on today?
Tumblr media
But as he passed an alley, he smelled . . . citrus? Lemon with jasmine? It was a familiar scent ...
A perfume Lazuli wore a lot.
Chris wasn’t sure what he expected to find. She’d been gone for weeks. Dead for weeks. And it was probably a popular perfume. But he followed the smell down the alley anyway. Following notes of lemon and white lilac. Until he neared the other side of the alley. Finding a small scrap of fabric. Tied around 3 small blue flowers. Still fresh. Very much alive. They must’ve been a day old at most.
It was weird. A memorial of sorts? He didn’t recall ever hearing of an accident in this area. Maybe it was from an anniversary? He placed the tiny bouquet down. Didn’t want to be disrespectful. Though it did seem like a bit of a coincidence. Her perfume. Her favorite flowers.
     “. . .”
His eyes locked onto a camera on the nearby street lamp. Overlooking the shop next to him. Though given the angle, it may have been able to see into the alley as well, right? At the very least see who placed the flowers there.
     Chris pulled out his phone.

“Hey, Rowan. Would it help if I gave you a specific camera to look into?”

What did I just put in my Bath?
Have you ever looked at the ingredient list on the rear of a bath product and wondered what it all means.
The list below is from a standard quality bath product;
Aqua – Water [Provides bulk]
Sodium Laureth Sulfate – Makes bubbles and dries skin [can cause eczema]
Cocamidopropyl Betaine – Foam Booster [ irritant and linked to contact dermatitis]
Sodium Chloride – Salt
Parfum – aroma compounds to give it a strong smell
Sine Adipe Lac – Softens skin and Moisturises
Citrus Amara Extract – Extract of Bitter Orange Flower
Camelia Sinensis Extract – Tea Extract
Sodium Lactate – A natural salt made from Lactate acid [water retainer]
Lactic Acid – Helps clear dead skin cells, naturally found in tired muscles
Glycol Distearate – Makes the product pretty (Pearlescent) and thicker
Limonene – Herbal cleaner [Normally from Lemon or cloves]
Steareth-4 – Emulsifying Agent [prevents the oils from sitting on the water]
Polyquaternium-7 – To give a luxury consistency
Dipropylene Glycol – Fragrance and another thickener
Trisodium Ethlenediamine Disuccinate – Extends shelf life [prevents discoloration]
Glycerin – Moisturiser [vegans be warned it can be animal product]
Sodium Benzoate – Preservative
CI 15985 – Sunset yellow Colourant [Linked to ADHD in children]
This chemistry set is not unsafe but if you ignore all the unnecessary padding (thickeners, texture aids, colours, pearlescent material, bubbles, foam booster and perfume)
What’s left is basically salts, plant based oils/extracts, moisturisers and an emulsifier to prevent it looking like a cheap salad dressing. This is why I feel it is far nicer and cheaper to make your own.
Why not try making your own bath bomb (Click here for a guide)
