He was welcomed by DGP, J&K on his arrival to Police Headquarters. The officers interacted about the general security scenario of the Union Territory and particularly about the vital installations. The DGP J&K during the interaction with the visiting officer said that Jammu and Kashmir Police was doing multifarious duties and has been countering terrorism at different fronts. NEW DELHI: The home ministry is undertaking the mammoth exercise of identifying the total number of central and state police personnel in the country who, as “frontline workers” in the fight against Covid-19, shall be administered the vaccine on priority once the necessary approvals are in. While a meeting was taken by Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla around a fortnight ago with the heads of central para-military forces like the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, etc. to collect the data on the total strength of their Covid warriors, another meeting was held by him via video-conferencing on Thursday with the DGPs/IGPs of state/UT police as well as DG of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards with the same objective. Confirming the exercise, a senior official of a central para-military force told that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were asked to give data on their personnel, which is likely to help the home ministry in assessing the total requirement of vaccine doses for the ‘frontline’ police personnel and to subsequently work with the health ministry on the road map for administering them. A home ministry source said no distinction may be drawn between police personnel on Covid duties such as those deployed in containment zones and those on other routine duties. “The police personnel, including those deployed on the border, work closely with the people and are at a higher risk of contracting the virus. So all police personnel must be administered Covid vaccine on priority,” said an officer. The data on central and state police personnel and their zone of duty is likely to be shared with the health ministry to develop a schedule for their vaccination on priority. The combined strength of central police forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, NSG, etc. is around 10 lakh.

Shah worries rise in Corona cases in CAPF New Delhi:  Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday expressed concern over increasing COVID-19 cases in Central Armed Police Forces like the BSF and the CRPF and discussed with officials ways to check the spread of the deadly disease, officials said.The issue of a large number of coronavirus cases in these forces was discussed at a high-level meeting, chaired by Shah and attended by directors general of BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and NSG and senior home ministry officials.Shah chaired a meeting of the DGs of all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) where he appreciated the commendable work done by these forces and expressed concern over increasing COVID-19 cases, a home ministry spokesperson said.He also discussed measures taken to prevent further spread of the disease and ensure wellbeing of the forces.As many as 530 CAPFs personnel have tested COVID-19 positive so far while five personnel succumbed to the disease - two each from the BSF and the CISF and one from the CRPF.Among the active coronavirus cases, 221 were in BSF, 161 in CRPF, 35 in CISF, 94 in ITBP and at least 17 in SSB.These forces are about 10 lakh personnel strong and they are shouldering a variety of internal security duties in the country.The CAPFs have launched multiple measures to contain the infection by sanitising the premises and asking troops to strictly follow anti-coronavirus medical protocols, officials said.
