Short chapter today! One of Cira's journal entries. Cira has some doubts and some questions, but unfortunately neither her goddess nor her journal are providing answers.
I don't know what to do for a worldbuilding tidbit this weekend, this chapter isn't really giving me a springboard... but let me know if you have any questions and I'm happy to write an entry!
#Escaping Perdition#writing#writeblr#writers on tumblr#worldbuilding#It is sort of wild that in Cira's original POV chapters there was very little consideration and critical thought#but when she sits down in the evenings to write her journal she isn't in 'get shit done mode' and can actually be quite thoughtful#RIP Cira's critical thinking skills#which die each day at dawn and are born anew right before she goes to sleep

His full sprite is finally done! This took me ages to complete but he is here!! ↓ ↓ Want to know about him? Additional info is down there ↓ ↓ ↓
Illari Vichama Twsted from: Yzma Dorm: Reisollamma (Vice Housewarden) Grade/Class: Junior/Class B Birthday: February 18th Age: 18 Height: 173 cm (5'8) Dominant hand: Left Homeland: Empire of the Sun Club: S.T.E.M. Club Best Subject: Magical Science, Blot analytics Hobbies: Alchemy, Jewelry making Pet peeves: Being bossed around Favorite food: Rocoto Relleno Least favorite food: Spinach puffs Talent: Somehow having a great outfit for every occasion At 18, he wields a brilliant mind and a flair for fashion, always donning flashy feathers and handcrafted jewelry. Despite a weakened physical state from a childhood tragedy, Illari turns the tables by harnessing the magical waste, blot, to enhance his abilities through experiments and meticulous research. Assigned as the royal advisor and caretaker to young Emperor and Housewarden Cira, he navigates court and school life with quick wit and sass, supported by his loyal partner, Koka Apusto. His passion for blot is often shunned, and he's deemed as "scary beyond all reason" for even meddling with the substance willingly. Voice claim: Ayumu Murase
The black ends of his hair weren't always there, and are a side affect of his exposure to concentrated levels of blot in youth and the continuous exposure to it to this day.
The name Illari means 'Dawn' in Quechua. Which is a cruel irony given his resentment towards the sun.
Despite his stunted stamina rendering him pretty unathletic, he can actually do a cartwheel pretty effortlessly.
Unique Magic: Snuff out the light
Snuff out the light instantly shrouds any given area or person in complete darkness, within this darkness, apparitions appear as whatever the caster wills. This is usually very disorienting for the target, as it obscures their vision and could cause them emotional distress if what is displayed evokes that.
The tangibility of the apparitions vary on the caster's magic reserves and usage of it, but it is possible for them to cause physical harm to the target at the cost of immense blot accumulation. The same also applies to the area in which the spell is cast. Single rooms/enclosed spaces are much easier than in the open, as the caster needs to concentrate for how large of an area they want to cover. Additionally, the spell is much weaker if cast in broad daylight.

character ask #31: Which OC do you wish you had more art of? (Recieved, making yourself, etc.)
From the oc ask post
I'm sure we've all been there, where we realize we've been hyped about a character for a while and yet have rarely or never drawn them / commissioned an artist to draw them. This is a feeling I know all too well. It's hard to pick any single character that I'd like to see more.
In the end I'd probably have to pick ... Cira Dawn. She's one of my favorite OCs, and I used to make art of her back in the day, but that dropped off when I stopped drawing much of anything. She deserves better though! She's super important in her story and I'm proud of how far she's come. She's even got a pretty decent legacy forming with Elias Dawn, her kid. He wouldn't have gotten anywhere as a character if not for the guidance of his badass mother.

This is literally just what Imperfect Storm has turned out to be. Some badass fights, some quality banter, and of course shenanigans and stumbling their way into furthering the plot. I think they'll make it, but they aren't taking the easy route, that's for sure.
We've got:
Elias Dawn, the demigod trickster who dual-classes as a bard and a ranger. He's the charisma hog.
Eral the Arbor Pixie, a jaded rogue who's very good at getting into and out of trouble in rapid succession.
Joleth Bay, an exiled elf barbarian who is well versed in the Way of Hit With Weapon.
With cameos like:
Gladys, celestial sea serpent
Cira, a bard-turned-oracle with permanent word salad (words get mixed up on the way from her brain to her mouth)
Guinivere, a mage who really should have been in a party of murder hobos when I initially played her.
all of your dnd character are now adventuring together as a single group. what’s that party lookin like and how fucked are they

Na, most, hogy kijöttek az első 2021-es év végi albumlisták, itt a tökéletes időpont megosztani a 2020-as félkész (jó, 7/8-ad kész) albumlistámat.

Release Day Picks: 4/24/20
Here’s our picks for the week!
John Carroll Kirby - My Garden (Stones Throw)
- Wrote about John Carroll Kirby’s surprise release, Conflict, earlier this month here. While Conflict was a beautiful ambient piano album, My Garden is a more playful collection of songs. The album is another impressive example of John Carroll Kirby’s dynamic range as a songwriter.
https://johncarrollkirby.bandcamp.com/album/my-garden
K-LONE - Cape Cira (Wisdom Teeth)
- A cool album by a new artist to me. From melodic electronic to more ambient atmospheres, Cape Cira is a rich collection of sounds.
https://wisdomteethuk.bandcamp.com/album/k-lone-cape-cira-lp
Kenji Kihara - Slow Slope Sleeps (Inner Islands) - Kihara released Dawn, one of my ambient favorites last year. He’s returned with a sprawling 2 1/2 hour release on Inner Islands that he describes as "A series of songs that slowly fall asleep, like going down a slope." Haven’t even had a chance to absorb this one yet but I have no doubt it’s worth our attention.
https://innerislands.bandcamp.com/album/slow-slope-sleeps
K. Leimer - A Figure Of Loss (Palace of Lights)
- We have sung the praises of Leimer a few times already here and you can probably get used to that continuing if he keeps up his current release pace. A Figure Of Loss follows on the heels of the surprise release, Semblance, and it’s yet another gorgeous ambient entry to the Leimer discography.
https://open.spotify.com/album/3MLoQ25ddgmkPvbVdWSxz3
Mock Orange - The Bridge (Bedfire)
- Semi-legendary indie/math/emo band return with three fine new songs. Released on 4/20 because, of course.
https://open.spotify.com/album/5TpsFlCmG5C7IYH9kF5lJA
More Eaze - Mari (Orange Milk)
- An emotional record full of fascinating experimental pop from More Eaze and Orange Milk.
https://orangemilkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mari
SiP - Leos Naturals (Not Not Fun)
- Chicago’s Jimmy Lacy takes you on a wild synth trip of ambient jam.
https://sip-groop.bandcamp.com/album/leos-naturals
Maxwell Sterling - Laced With Rumour: Loud-Speaker Of Truth (Ecstatic)
- Two listens in and I’m not even remotely close to wrapping my head around this album. Sterling has created a spiritual journey across experimental music landscapes.

This is what some of the earliest stars in the universe might have looked like
New Post has been published on https://nexcraft.co/this-is-what-some-of-the-earliest-stars-in-the-universe-might-have-looked-like/
This is what some of the earliest stars in the universe might have looked like
A cold start
When we look through telescopes, we can see into the past. Light travels fast, but it still takes a lot of time for light from sources spread across the universe to get to our searching eyes. We’ve spotted supermassive black holes from the dawn of the universe, just 800 million years after the big bang. But in a study published this week in Nature, researchers were able to look back even farther than that—180 million years after the big bang—when the very first stars were forming.
“What’s happening in this period,” Alan Rogers, an astronomer at MIT’s Haystack Observatory, said in a press release, “is that some of the radiation from the very first stars is starting to allow hydrogen to be seen. It’s causing hydrogen to start absorbing the background radiation, so you start seeing it in silhouette, at particular radio frequencies. This is the first real signal that stars are starting to form, and starting to affect the medium around them.”
The researchers think it’s unlikely we’ll see further back into the history of stars anytime soon, but they will keep looking for other information about the infancy of the universe, including why the hydrogen gas appears to be colder than expected. A lot colder. Another paper in Nature suggests that this might be due to the presence of dark matter, a fascinating possibility that other researchers are eagar to investigate.
With all the other news going on in the world this week, there’s a chance you didn’t have much space for space. But there was a whole universe of stuff going on. Here are a few other stories you might have missed:
Wet and Wild Moon
There was a lot of lunar news this week. We already knew that there was water on the Moon and that some of it was probably pretty difficult to get to. A new study published in Nature Geoscience found that the water might be even more widespread than we thought, spread out across geographical regions, but also concluded that the water might be pretty immobile. Researchers are interested in understanding more about the Moon’s water reserves because water is a valuable resource for future expeditions—great to use for drinking, sure, but also for breaking down into oxygen (for breathing) and hydrogen (for fueling up rockets).
Water on the Moon also tells us something about our natural satellite’s development. A paper published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters used models to mimic theories about how the Moon might have formed. They found that having widespread water on the moon was still consistent with the leading hypothesis, which is that another planet-sized object collided with the early Earth. The impact sent material flying into space, which eventually coalesced into our Moon.
Go GOES-S
What does it look like when one weather satellite captures the launch of another weather satellite on camera? Something like this:
That little blip was the thermal energy from the rocket carrying GOES-S, NASA and NOAA’s latest satellite. It will monitor severe weather across the United States, and was imaged by its immediate predecessor, GOES-16, which also caught the exhaust from the launch.

See that little wisp heading through the clouds near Cape Canaveral? Yep, that’s it again! Both images were made possible by an instrument called the Advanced Baseline Imager. Read more about the technology that lets this satellite monitor and forecast disasters here.
CIMON says
And last but not least, there’s a space robot in the news. The Crew Interactive Mobile CompanioN (CIMON) will head to the ISS in June. The 11-pound companion equipped with IBM’s Watson technology will follow around the ISS astronauts and help them… wait, what will a round, disembodied ball with a smiley face on it do, exactly?
According to IBM’s blog, “together they will experiment with crystals, solve the Rubik magic cube based on videos, and conduct a complex medical experiment using CIMON as an ‘intelligent’ flying camera.”
Hopefully it works out better than the last robonaut. Robonaut 2, broken since 2015, is packaged up on the ISS and awaiting an unceremonious return to Earth.

🖊 + Elias
( Want me to gush about my OCs? )
Elias has many middle names, and listing them all off gets tedious for him. The city/culture he’s from tends to have a tradition of adding more middle names based on titles earned and accomplishments won. He was already born with a few: Elias Orson Phineas Kingspeaker* Dawn. Since his mother is the Oracle of a temple, he assumed the role of a temple speaker just by being born. Very few people can make sense of what Cira Dawn says due to her difficulties communicating, but Elias always had a knack for it.
He takes after his mother in looks. Since his father is a deity with no set physical form, his natural physical traits were all inherited from Cira (deep red hair, sapphire eyes, sienna skin, strong nose). He’s met his dad a few times, and while there’s no animosity between them, a part of him does blame the guy for the way Cira’s mind was broken.
Elias is pansexual and genderfluid. Since he’s a shapeshifter, he can play around a bit with his presentation. Usually, he will give the people close to him an easy visual cue so they know which pronouns to use, but not always. He sometimes enjoys dating and develops crushes fast, but the thought of anything like marriage or any implication of “forever” sort of freaks him out for reasons he keeps quiet (he has a set “destiny” and he already has a hard enough time with that).
Elias as a character is fun to write because he’s what most people would call “overpowered”. He’s a demigod with a lot of abilities, including storm manipulation, shapeshifting, summoning items out of thin air, and making copies of himself. He also sort of combines his storm and mischief aspects into something he calls “electrickery,” in which he manipulates the electric impulses in someone’s brain. He saves that for dire circumstances since it’s hard to do.
* ”Kingspeaker” is the most convenient translation from what the word is in his first language, since it doesn’t have a distinction between a male and female sovereign.

Muunfel Lore Bits #5
Cira Dawn isn't the first Oracle that has ever taken up residence in her temple, but she might be the most decorated. The power that grants her the position enables her to see not only the futures, but a lot of the past as well, with almost all of time accessible to her with some effort. It also gives her the ability to create and resolve paradoxes on a whim.
Cira also communes with beings not on the physical plane, especially the gods. Many of them find her amusing or endearing, and would protect her if the need arose. In return, sometimes they are allowed to ride along in her headspace to view the world from a slightly more mortal perspective.

Throwback Thursday
How Elias discovered his gender identity
Elias, in his original form, was a D&D character (dual class bard/ranger, for those interested). He was actually introduced as the son of my previous D&D character, Cira Dawn, who had survived three campaigns prior and deserved to be safely retired with all her loot so she could take care of her lil baby.
Becoming an oracle of a significant temple (a development that I kept in her story when I moved it into the Muunfel project) gave her a stable place to call home, but it also meant many visits from all kinds of importan people. Elias grew up meeting dignitaries, gods, vessels of gods, royals, and the like. It was a very accepting household, though he saw his fair share of trouble growing up there. His mother's importance made him the target for more than one kidnapping attempt, but Cira Dawn can and will move mountains for her baby, so it never stuck.
Elias grew up confident and well-loved, but still he set out on his adventures to see the world and figure out his own place in it (all with his mother's enthusiastic support). This is, more or less, how he ended up with his original D&D party.
Fast forward to the thick of the Plot. One of the other party members, a very pretty cleric, had gotten kidnapped. She was being held hostage in a warehouse, and part of the rest of the party's plan for attack was to create diversions. Elias' diversion, since he could shapeshift, was to transform into the likeness of their kidnapped friend to make the bandits think she'd escaped her cell.
Sometime during this mission, it clicked. The form, presenting as female, worked well for Elias, and she was almost reluctant to shift back.
After that, more shapeshifting and experimentation occurred. Elias learned that he is a man sometimes, a woman others, and neither or both on some occasions. He's very fortunate to be able to play so freely with his presentation, too.
Fun fact: Sometimes, when presenting female, she changes her name to Elisa to match and thinks she's the cleverest about it. For agender/nonbinary days, El is a suitable name for them. However, Elias is fine with his given name as a general way to refer to him.

Excerpt: Birth of a Storm
I've written here and there about Elias and Cira Dawn, and their time being the strangest pseudo-royal family that their temple has seen in many many years. The interesting thing to note is that Cira was deeply depressed after being declared the Oracle. It meant she could not wander as freely as she used to, and the friends she lost would stay lost out in the world. When she learned she was pregnant, some of her joy came back.
Twenty two hours of labor and the baby still hadn’t come. Cira let out another raspy cry as her body shuddered with pain. The nurses bustled around her like a kaleidoscope of moving figures. Someone held her hand, but between the intense false figures in the room and the storming outside, she couldn’t tell who. All that mattered was the baby that was so ready to come out, but couldn’t.
Something had to be wrong, but Cira lacked the words to ask. The speakers of the temple were standing by, but most of them had no idea what to make of her yet. She was a new Oracle and her prophecies were more obscured than most.
Words simply minced together in her head. After everything that she had seen and done, she was quite rightfully mad. She didn’t usually mind.
Thunder cracked and something in her shifted. Cira cried out a wordless plea, a prayer that she would at least get to meet her child. It was so lonely, being the way she was. The baby, she told herself, didn’t have to understand her. She would love it just the same.
