War’s End: the Rise of Propaganda and the Fall of States from 1914 to 2228, Author Unknown
Chapter 3, fragments.
Warning: Contains discussion of Avatar 1, Avatar 2: the Way of the Water, Avatar 3: the Daughter of Eywa, Avatar 4: the Mists of Pandora, and Avatar 5: the Bonds of Earth. Students of the period wishing to experience these films as intended by their original creators are advised to forego reading this analysis until they have viewed these forgotten gems of 21st century storytelling on their own terms.
…though all three major transitional ideologies had contributed new styles and techniques (with special consideration to the Mussolinic Triumph of the Will and Marxist Metropolis, among others), demotists remained the undisputed masters of the cinematic form from very early in the war. “Hollywood” was a term referring to both the production center and surrounding urban community of many demotic films, and throughout much of the late 20th century, could be taken to mean films in general, especially those intended for mass consumption (i.e. all propaganda films). Birth of a Nation, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Casablanca, Star Wars, and many other notable benchmarks in the history of propagandistic war films are all demotist projects, and contributed substantially to demotist war victories and popularization. Late in the war, demotist military projects began to adopt filmic nomenclature, such as the Reaganite Star Wars orbital defense laser, or the USS Enterprise, a mobile aeronautical platform.
Even after the final cessation of the first World War in 1991, cinema (and particularly demotic cinema) retained its essential character as a tool of wartime propaganda, such as in Lord of the Rings, with characteristic exhortations to mass violence, manichean absolutism, and ethnoprotagonism. Previous treatments of the subject have claimed that the demotic film project was largely abandoned during the 21st century peacetime; however, this claim would seem to neglect its many artistic and technological contributions…
…of these is the Avatar Quintet, directed by James Cameron. Though largely overlooked today, the film was wildly popular upon release. Scholarship is often confused on this point; it is true that the film has only a minor noötic shadow, but recent efforts in fiscal archaeology provide an estimate of between 350-500 million viewers per film, a substantial fraction of the contemporary global population. This discrepancy can, perhaps, be accounted for by noting that the Avatar Quintet was, unusually for the time, a wholly original narrative. Cultural norms of 21st century propaganda had pivoted towards the refurbishment of existing, popularized characters; the first of the cinematic commedia had emerged in 2008. Late generations of theater attendees may have been unprepared for conversations and community contributions to films which lacked a pre-existing frame of reference to structure such efforts, despite their enthusiasm for the core experience and the novelty of encountering an unfamiliar protagonist.
However, it is precisely this quality of original narrative which makes the Quintet a valuable object of scholarship in the history of propaganda. Which is to say, it is one of the few films that may be said to represent authentically twenty-first century storytelling. Here, we show that not only is the film an exemplary effort of late demotist propaganda, but that it consciously inherits and extends the legacy of 20th century war films towards a post-demotic frame of reference- in other words, that it constitutes true artistic innovation and plays an important role in the formation of Indo-Euro-Sinic identity during the Long Peace.

In this its visual style was distinct from the era’s dominant cinematic commedia, Marvels (though both still used the visual and narrative language of wartime propaganda). Marvels relied on live-filmed human actors to convey character actions, as in the early stages of cinema, but it had matured to the extent of using fully synthetic sets and background visuals otherwise. The Avatar Quintet, on the other hand, relied on a careful mix of synthetic and live filmed representations, semi-textually using synthetic techniques to illuminate the biosphere of its setting, Pandora (including its ethnoprotagonist group, the Na’vi), while leaning as much as possible on live-filming to represent textual humans and human-controlled environments. This was neither arbitrary nor trivial to accomplish; the challenges of producing the Avatar Quintet were noted even at the time. Hence, it must be examined as an artistic and propagandistic choice.
Consider that limitations in style and even in technology in the early 21st century meant that synthetics were often unsophisticated, lacking details and partially breaking narrative immersion. Though less flexible and visually flat, live-filmed settings and actors often carried greater nuance, and could draw the eye as a ‘primary’ feature of cinematography and framing. The live-filmed actors of the wartime-conceived Marvels served in part to advance the core demotist virtues of individualist heroism- simply by virtue of live-filming a character rather than constructing the character synthetically, they could be framed as the central source of agency within an otherwise synthetic scene. To the contrary, the (chronologically postwar) Avatar Quintet’s choice guides audience sympathies in a far more complex way. It begins, as in Marvels, with live-filmed actors representing humans in an alien, synthetic environment, but rapidly adds complexity to this distinction by transitioning the characters’ locus of consciousness to new, synthetic bodies, which hybridize human and Na’vi forms. The films then use fully synthetic (both character and setting) visuals for the middle period of the film, during which both the protagonist and the audience acclimate to the setting and ultimately demonstrate mastery within it, before fully reversing the format by framing the (now totally synthetic) protagonist within live-filmed sets and engaging in warfare against live-filmed antagonist humans. While still fully accommodating the cinematic framework of wartime propaganda, the film visually undermines the assumptions of heroic individualism, aligning the emotional catharsis of narrative to a framing that causes the world, not the individual protagonist, to seem most important and sophisticated. Thus, Avatar anticipates the 21st century’s post-demotist reintegration of Buddho-Christian thought, actively creating a bridge away from the more simplistic heroic individualism of demotism’s classical…
...but this confusion of identity pervades the Quintet on all levels. The titular Avatar bodies are textual and literal hybrids- represented synthetically, but with motion inputs from live-filmed actors. The fictional Na’vi way of life incorporates its own breakdowns in individuality, textually merging nervous systems with other characters within the setting (most notably for use as battle-mounts.) Even from the very beginning, the (still fully human) protagonist is caught in a confusion of self, participating in the events of the film because of his genetic replication of his brother, and in tension between his personal role as a soldier and his brother’s position as a scientist. The spiritual guardian of the setting (Eywa) is essentially a transcendence of boundaries- she is a plural entity expressing the ecosystem as a whole, containing both living and dead spirits, and is seen to move souls between Na’vi and human bodies as early as the first installment- the “Daughter of Eywa” plotline, climaxing in the third installment with both the (Christian) mortal sacrifice and (Buddhist) no-self transcendence of Kiri, weaves both value systems in to an emergent whole reflected in the setting itself by the merging of Pandoran and Earth ecosystems.
Early in the second installment, Cameron creates a scene highlighting the quintessential ironies of his film: a human being, dressed in war paint and a thin loincloth, beating against the walls of his cage and hissing like a Na’vi, while a Na’vi-bodied character dressed in 20th century military fatigues watches on impassively, sipping a beverage from a metal cup. “He’s gone completely feral,” the blue character says. Where, in this scene, does demotist propaganda assign moral agency? Where does it place the locus of identity? Like the film as a whole, this scene is a koan. Every element of the form is there; the film is ‘correct’ in its construction of wartime propaganda, but it nonetheless points towards a philosophy of the postwar.
It must be emphasized that this irony is entirely within the scope of wartime propaganda itself; to say that this propaganda advances a philosophy of the postwar is not to say that it is postwar propaganda as such. Recall that some of the very earliest examples of world war era propaganda, we find the common phrase “the war to end all war.” Cameron’s Avatar inherits this same purpose and scope- the film is not simplistically pro-war or pacifist, but rather, like the radio addresses and leaflets of 1914-18 from which it emerged, the film argues that war is a necessary component of its own dissolution. Thus, the Avatar Quintet glorifies war even as it undermines the distinctions between persons that make war possible. This is no mere lurching reproduction of demotist patterns in a dying art form. It is genuine artistic innovation, extending and elevating the core social role of cinematic propaganda even as it looks forward to a future where its own format is superceded by…
...naturally at odds with the Racial Hygiene movement, which was at its peak from 1807 through the 2130s (widely considered a lagging indicator to the increased mobility enabled by advancing industrial technologies). Boosted by early misunderstandings of the role of natural selection in human development, the Hygienists argued that ancestry was a primary element of human attainment and moral value, and took the preservation of ethnic distinctions as their primary organizing principle. Essentially, they discarded the heroism/individualism axis of demotist philosophy, relying wholly on its ethnic components and striving to minimize ethnic strife through careful use of taxonomy and segmentation of global populations. Though they are not generally counted among the great transitional ideologies, since they failed to establish governing states of their own, Racial Hygienists were nonetheless instrumental as factions within other such bodies under a variety of different names. Even today, many modern transpol ‘plexes can trace core ideological themes directly back to the Hygienists, particularly Mormons and the Free Metropol Network.
The Avatar Quintet, with its core themes of admixture between species, was positioned in part as a conscious refutation of contemporary strains of Racial Hygienics. However, any hoped-for debate seems to have been minor at best; recall again Avatar’s relatively small noötic shadow. It is certain that its opponents would have correctly interpreted the challenge; the mystery is why (despite a viewership in the hundreds of millions) there is so little response during a century when ethnic separatism was a primary diagnostic tool. It is possible that its opponents simply decided that the film was not an opportune battleground- owing to the tremendous social power leveraged in its production, as well as its comparative popularity. They may have reasoned that a debate would counterproductively raise the profile of the film, preferring instead to ‘freeze out’ discussion by simply changing the subject…
...despite this, any relationship to The Smurfs must remain circumstantial pending further scholarship…
...returning, as it must, to the Earth itself in the fifth installment of the work. Here, Avatar scholarship is at its most controversial. Though the film is replete with discussions of the ‘balance’ and impartiality of Eywa’s spiritual oversight, the analogy to actual egregore-class telosic intelligence remains loose at best- despite the extensive discussions in installment 4 (“the Mists of Pandora”) about Eywa’s own past as a cultivated entity.
It must be noted, at least, that James Cameron’s own work takes the development of telosic intelligence quite seriously- his famously obscene Terminator film (itself a product of the late war period) was instrumental in raising public awareness of the immanent development of telosic minds, albeit through a genocidally alarmist lens. The director was, unambiguously, aware of the development of what he called ‘artificial’ intelligence. Is it possible that, if his early Terminator represented the alarmist view of telosic intelligence, then he intended Avatar to represent a more hopeful approach to the same question? Did his experience of world peace and optimism post-1991 allow him to find more compassionate attitudes towards the still-nascent children of humanity?
We cannot, in the end, truly answer these questions. Without those answers, we cannot fully interpret the full Quintet as either primitivist or technopian; the climactic planting of the world tree on Earth can represent both a rejection of technological progress, and the perfection of that path as mediated by the once-alien. But then, the same ambiguity may have been felt by contemporary audiences themselves...

A me esce una cosa come Layla Roma, e ammetto che se la trovassi nel mio sito di riferimento porno, un'approfodimento ai suoi video lo farei. Immaginarla fisicamente mi è difficile, scadrei nel banale, invece potrei immaginare che le sue scene più popolari siano le DP, di quelle che iniziano dolci e finiscono molto hard, e le public, e come casa di produzione la Evil Angel. Mi accorgo che potrei scrivere di porno tranquillamente, che come per il cinema classico, riconosco la case di produzione da come sono girate le scene. Stupida memoria fotografica.
Ultimamente mi sono abbonato a Mubi. Fruisco poco di serie tv e molto di film, e Mubi m'ha convito con 4 mesi a 4 euro. Di quelli che conosco, molti si sono fatti la settimana gratuita per vedersi Aftersun, e siccome per me mainstream lo diventa se più di 3 persone intorno a me ne parlano (anche sui social), automaticamente quella cosa la accantono per vederla dopo anni. So fatto così. Testa di cazzo inside anche se il film merita, stessa cosa per the whale che per partito preso lo vedrò tra 3-4 anni. Su Mubi mi sono visto un po' di roba casuale, senza criterio. Oggi ho visto Shiva Baby mentre aspettavo che gli altri venissero a casa per giocare a D&D. Uno di loro è venuto 1 ora in anticipo e ha finito per vederselo con me. Uno che vive di poco cinema e film blockbuster s'è visto sto film di nicchia (nulla da togliere, bel film, premiato, tecnicamente valido, ma se giro al campetto e chiedo di Shiva baby non trovo risposta) e non so come l'abbia convinto, forse sembravo convinto io e lui s'è fatto trascinare. E ora immagino lui che tornando dalla sessione di d&d, va dalla compagna (futura moglie) e le dice di sto film, di Mubi, ecc... e la compagna lo scaga perché non ha tempo per vedersi sti film, oppure la compagna lo ascolta e si vedono pure loro sti film, oppure, come capita nel 99% dei casi, non succede nulla. Lui dirà che ha visto un film, che la sessione è andata bene, lei dirà ah ok, e andranno a dormire.

Hı, my safe place!
Here to confessional!
I am doing my master's degree in the Netherlands. I had the chance to attend Blackpink's concert here. girl, the concert was literally expensive. I paid almost 200 euro for the ticket. I also paid for accommodation in Amsterdam, cause I do not live in the capital. It cost me more than 500 euros in total. We waited in line for hours. I've bought from their merch before too. I work part time here. I also can't get a lot of pocket money from my family due to the exchange rate difference. government scholarship is enough to meet our basic needs. so it was a little challenging for me. but i was hoping that I will have fun. I love Blackpink. I've been following them for about 3 years. I was excited, so not complaining. But then, the concert was a disappointment for me. I want to speak honestly. vocals-stage presence were not good. Except for Lisa, the other members were making mistakes in the dances. Idk maybe you've probably seen the reactions on social media. especially jennie, it was like she was on stage because she had to be there. performances were not as exciting as I expected. There was a lot of autotune and playback support. When I wanted to accompany the songs, I felt a little embarrassed after a while because there weren't many people who did this, and I kept silent and continued swinging my light stick cause I thought I was being noisy and annoying. Most of watched the stages like an opera concert. jisoo's stage was actually nice but not very entertaining. I just watched with a stupid grin on my face. but I loved the vibe she gave. Jennie's was boring tbh. It was like watching a ballet show. After that, rosé's stage.. My bias is Rosé. I was planning to go crazy. As I watched it before, I was extremely hopeful that she will sing live. but i was shocked. Although she had been singing for years, she was not that stable and strong. Of course, the best vocal performance was hers. but if you compare it to western artists, you would think it is very amateur. She sang the song even without a smile on her face and didn't even give a little witty(?) flirty attitude. then she said otg. it was the same way. Even she himself seemed bored. She was sulking. Then Lisa came on stage. we had fun. pole dance was very good of course. she is amazing at dancing no doubt. but that was just it. She used the microphone for, like a minute during an entire performance. I felt like I was watching the stage of a tiktok influencer in a nightclub or something. entire concert was pretty much like that. No one is talking about the facts. concerts were not fun. You would have had the same experience if you had watched it in the cinema. I felt like I was watching their "the movie". There was no real communication with fans. there was no interesting, original reaction or connection. I feel asleep towards the end of the concert. There were also those who had already begun to leave the area. When it finished, I was yawning and then went to my hotel. I was not satisfied at all. This led me to think :'). I was like, why am I paying so much money for what? It still continues like that as far as I can follow. this is so embarrassing. You pay that much money, you wait for hours and you leave the concert with pure disappointment. seriously pr is incredibly effective. none of them are worth support as a singer name. they are just an influencer. It has nothing to do with being an artist. sad.

Rockyrama and the rock’n Roll typographer
Take Rockyrama issue No. 26, published in March 2020. Open it.
  Just here, on the page 5, tell me what you see? I know, there are a lot of things to analyse but try to sum it up. I see old school Japanese advertisements stuck over a yellow pattern of Japanese calligraphy. It’s simple but original. Have you ever seen it inside a magazine published in 2020s ? Rockyrama is punk. I mean it looks like a fanzine from the 70s, without rules, very expressive and popular. A fanzine is a magazine designed by fans. They create a handmade layout which is dynamic and personal. Rockyrama is edited by cinema fans to be read by other fans but it is not a fanzine. It’s a real professional magazine published each trimester for 12 euros 50 and edited by Romain Fravalo. We may wonder why this magazine seems to be both a professional magazine and a fanzine ?

  One layer of paper, and another and another. Did you count the layers of paper on the page 8 ? There are 3. One green background, the Japanese pattern and finally, a picture of the director Bong Joon-ho. This collage reminds me of the scrapbooks I did when I was a child. The use of a pattern or a background which is never white is a way to say « I’m not conventional ». But it’s also under control. There are a lot of elements superimposed on page 8, whereas page 9 is more spacious with a one text column and big margins. This typographic choice harmonises the double page. The only problem is the legibility of the folio due to this collage. Over the pattern, numbers are difficult to read because the black of the type isn’t contrasted enough with the thickness of the Japanese calligraphy. 
  I’m talking about typefaces. Did you see the contrast between them ? The typeface used for standfirsts and subheadings is geometric, sans serif and the type size is quite big. The tone of this type is friendly and represents the style of a fanzine. This style is simple and naive due to the size. The other typeface, used for the main text, is contrasted with serif and the type size is very little. The tone is more quiet here. There’s a big contrast between the two typefaces, as two voices inside one article. It illustrates well the idea of a mix between a fanzine and a serious magazine.

  The final point I want to highlight is about spaces. Look at the variation of marges and leading. All the informations written near the margins (folios, the title of the magazine, the title of the article) are close to the margins. This detail is important because it’s clumsy. It gives the impression of an error as if they didn’t cut the paper correctly. However the leading is spaced too much. Lines float because they keep the same leading for the both typefaces. The leading of the smaller one seems very big due to this choice. I admire this kind of harmony in the page because some elements balance others. That looks uncontrolled but it is, there is a serious typographic choice. The only thing that shocks me is the line length. The space between each word is changing. The wide spaces in the same line are incompatible with the narrower ones. This detail slows the reading that’s why this typographic and aesthetic choice isn’t professional. A layout can be original but respect for the reader is essential.

  We can now close Rockyrama, issue No. 26, to conclude what we see. The identity of the magazine is based on the duality in the graphic choices. Comparing Rockyrama with a fanzine is a kind of trap because this awkward layout is the work of a typographer. Whether if you like it or not, rationally it’s readable. But this original layout is complex. The typographer has to be attentive to all the details that can slow or stop our reading. You are now see and judge this kind of layout for yourself  and I hope you will open again a Rockyrama.

La rassegna, promossa dall’Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e Spettacolo – Centro Nazionale di Fotografia e curata da Enrico Gusella e Brasilia Pellegrinelli, presenta una particolare antologia di immagini dell’artista italiano Mario Schifano (1934–1998), nella quale il mezzo fotografico diventa il pretesto per un’azione pittorica di appropriazione e comprensione del mondo. L’esposizione mette in luce un aspetto meno noto al pubblico della sua arte, aggiungendo un elemento prezioso di ulteriore lettura dell’immagine fotografica.
Nato con l’anima esclusiva di pittore, Schifano sceglie di contaminare la pittura con il flusso e le retoriche narrative del cinema, con l’asserzione e la corporeità ambigua della fotografia. Cattura, scatto dopo scatto, con meraviglia, immagini di un mondo televisivo da scoprire, dentro il quale ritrovare altri percorsi artistici. A seguire è l’intervento pittorico, brusco e veloce, provocatorio ed eccentrico.
Schifano non riceve le immagini, ma le “guarda”, “scava” dentro, padroneggia, anche quando è più appariscente il suo rapporto con la casualità. La superficie dell’immagine originale, sottratta al mondo televisivo, diventa il campo di apparizione iconografica su cui si intrecciano l'occhio meccanico dell'obiettivo fotografico e l’istintività della mano che segna la foto. Il suo sguardo si posa senza filtri né preconcetti sull’immagine, ed egli assume su se stesso il compito di ritrovarne il respiro, riaccende le riproduzioni, le rimette in movimento, le smonta e le manipola, consapevole del fatto che si tratta di un processo senza fine, perché l’immagine compiuta non può essere che morta, e dunque nessun processo deve prevedere il proprio compimento.
Le fotografie sono ritoccate a pennello, quasi a sottolineare alcuni atteggiamenti o rafforzare un’espressione attraverso l’uso di colori vistosi ed esagerati; una cornice nera che assume il significato di finestra di congiunzione tra due mondi in continuo dialogo: il tubo catodico e l’occhio fotografico di Mario Schifano.

A LIGHT-WORLD" - L'ÉNERGIE ARTISTIQUE À L'ÈRE DU POST-CINÉMA  Un film en continu et une œuvre participative par Yann Toma.
Venez découvrir une installation originale dans laquelle Yann Toma invite des compositeurs et musiciens à réagir spontanément au film **A LIGHT-WORLD** sur une période d'un mois et demi. Les compositions qui en résultent seront présentées au fur et à mesure de leur émergence. Dans ce contexte inédit, le public peut se rendre dans la salle 3 du cinéma Reflet Médicis (DULAC CINEMAS) à tout moment de la journée pour 1 euro, et rester aussi longtemps qu'il le souhaite.
**A LIGHT-WORLD** est un bain dans l'Énergie Artistique Résiduelle (EAR). C’est une projection qui évolue au fur et à mesure que de nouveaux sons sont transmis à Yann Toma, une œuvre qui agit et opère. Comme dans ses explorations photographiques, et sous l'égide d’Ouest-Lumière, Yann Toma présente pour la première fois **A LIGHT-WORLD**, la capture d'un monde insoupçonné à travers un travail de « contemplation active » qui considère à la fois le film et son contexte (l’espace où se trouvent les spectateurs). Ainsi, en agissant à travers la pré-présentation de segments distincts opérant comme autant de captures sensibles d'une réalité vécue, l’artiste-observateur suit les traces de **SLEEP** d'Andy Warhol (1964) et conçoit cette installation autant comme une expérience cinématographique qu’un « anti-film ».
En produisant des images atmosphériques, Yann Toma se transforme en anti-cinéaste, déployant une méthode d'observation empirique autant qu'une vision quasi-chamanique d’un monde qu’il perçoit à travers le prisme de la lumière. Il fait ressortir des polarités où les émotions et l'absurde se déploient, oscillant entre chaud et froid. Ce processus créatif étend irrésistiblement une forme de pouvoir pour diffuser l'Énergie Artistique (EA) à travers un champ singulièrement vaste et chromatique. Cette curieuse combinaison de temporalités fragmentées nous permet d’appréhender un film sans début ni fin, et de nous engager dans un ailleurs parallèle.
Yann Toma est artiste-observateur, chercheur, et Président à vie d’Ouest-Lumière. En récupérant des matériaux de l'ancienne société d'électricité Ouest-Lumière au début des années 1990, il s’est approprié un réseau symbolique, une infrastructure in-industrielle dans laquelle il a fait son territoire de recherche et l'essence de sa pratique artistique. Son travail croise énergie, réseaux et éthique. En tant qu’artiste, ses projets expérimentent une redistribution de l’énergie créative entre l’artiste et le public, donnant souvent lieu à des œuvres communautaires et participatives.

Recensione di Uglies IL FILM senza spoilers
Breve recensione del film Uglies disponibile su Netflix tratto dalla trilogia letteraria intitolata appunto UGLIES di Scott Westerfeld, distopica YA pubblicata nel 2006.

Come ormai sa chi mi segue io non sono una fan dei romanzi young adult in generale, ma ciò non significa che non esistano le eccezioni. Ci sono libri validi anche tra gli YA, e vi parlai di una trilogia young adult veramente interessante, ben scritta e disponibile in italiano ancora nel lontano 2006,Si trattava della serie UGLIES di Scott Westerfeld, un uomo dai mille talenti., web designer, musicista e compositore, e scrittore.
La serie composta da 3 LIBRI + 1 SPINOFF SEQUEL fu pubblicata in Italia da Mondadori prima in libri singoli (solo i primi due della serie: Brutti, e Perfetti), poi in un volume unico che comprendeva tutti e tre i romanzi ( Brutti, Perfetti e Speciali) intitolato Beauty -La trilogia. Volume molto corposo che costava sui 18 euro…..

Ebbene ora dopo ben 18 anni dalla sua pubblicazione, questa serie è diventata un film tv di Netflix. Ci sono voluti giusto un po’ di anni…..
All'epoca la serie mi piacque molto per l'argomento che è sempre attuale oggi più che mai: che importanza diamo e vogliamo che gli altri diano al nostro aspetto esteriore?
Che la distanzia dai soliti romanzi distopici che l'eroina di turno deve solo liberare il suo popolo dalle bugie e dal controllo del Governo, qui l'eroina prima deve cambiare interiormente e non è subito forte e decisa e perfetta.
Intanto vi ripresento i libri che compongono questa serie ad uno ad uno dopo ben 18, mi fa uno strano effetto pensare che ve ne parlai già così tanti anni.
- SERIE UGLIES
Il nostro aspetto esteriore è importante? Quanto? E se contasse quanto la nostra stessa vita? Se in base ad esso rischiassimo di venire uccisi o banditi? Se la chirurgia plastica fosse la norma e noi fossimo l'eccezione, cosa ne sarebbe di noi?
Ormai viviamo in un mondo in cui esere belli conta molto, la televisione il cinema ci danno modelli da seguire e la chirurgia ci permette di modificare il nostro aspetto per migliorarci….e se fosse lo Stato ad imporci di modificare il nostro aspetto per rispettare i canoni di bellezza che lui decide per noi? Se la simmetria di naso occhi e bocca contasse più del nostro cervello ….che mondo sarebbe il nostro? Non un bel mondo.
Con una trilogia avvincente, intrigante e troppo vicina alla realtà per i nostri gusti, Westerfeld ci mette in guarda contro la moda di seguire modelli di bellezza altrui, e ci ricorda che la libertà è il bene più prezioso dell'uomo e non vale la pena perderla in cambio di bellezza e denaro.

Trama: Tally è una ragazza normale. Ma essere normali, nel suo mondo, equivale a essere brutti. Brutti solo fino a sedici anni, fino a quando non si è sottoposti per legge a un'operazione di chirurgia estetica che rende bellissimi e uguali a tutti gli altri ‘perfetti’. Ecco perché Tally non vede l'ora di compiere sedici anni. Ma poco prima del giorno fatidico incontra Shay, che la convince a figgire dalla città verso i territori inesplorati dove vivono coloro che hanno rifiutato l'operazione. Queste persone, tutt'ora cercate dai governanti della città che li vogliono uccidere, rivelano a Tally il brivido dell'imprevisto e il fascino dell'imperfezione e la mettono al corrente di un'inquietante versione dei fatti. Tally incontra inoltre un ragazzo e se ne innamora ricambiata. Ora però deve affrontare un piccolo problema. Trama: Tally si è sacrificata per salvare gli ultimi brutti, figgutivi del regime della città, si è lasciata catturare promettendo al suo ragazzo che anche dopol'operazione a cui l'avrebbero costretta l'avrebbe ricordato e sarebbe fuggita portando con sè nuove informazioni per aiutare i ribelli a smantellare il regime. Putroppo il suo piano non sembra aver funzionate, durante l'operazione che l'ha resa bella le è stato fatto il lavaggio del cervello, e ora non ricorda più il suo scopo. E’ bella e popolare, ha un bel ragazzo, ha tutto ciò che ha sempre voluto eppure sente che c'è qualcosa che non va, qualcosa che dovrebbe ricordare. Tutto le diviene chiaro quando i fuggitivi riesco a mandarle un messaggio e lei finalmente ricorda. Ora deve solo trovare il modo di fuggire di nuovo, stavolta senza farsi ricatturare o stavolta non si limiteranno a cancellarle i ricordi la uccideranno.
3. Specials (Speciali)

Trama: Ancora una volta Tally è finita delle mano del Governo e ha subito una nuova operazione ora non è bella, è perfetta, gelidamente perfetta, una degli Speciali, le guardie che il Governo usa per dare la caccia ai ribelli, dotata di velocità e forza sovrumane. Tally è ora un arma al servizio dei suoi ex-nemici, spietata senza passato nè futuro, eppure possiede ancora un cuore che batte e che ricorda i sentimenti che una volta provava….
La mia opinione: Una trilogia veramente bella, adatta ad un pubblico adolescente, ma anche agli adulti. Per ricordarci di cosa rischiamo di diventare. La protagonista è una ragazza spesso indecisa e nel primo libro non molto coraggiosa, ma che sente di essere sempre diversa, sente che le manca qualcosa……e allo stesso tempo vorrebbe essere accettata, sarà l'amore a cambiare lei e a permetterle di cambiare il mondo intorno a sè. Se avete amato Twilight non potrete non amare anche questa trilogia.
Unica cosa che non mi è piaciuta di questa trilogia? Il fatto che due anni dopo la sua conclusione l'autore ha deciso di aggiungere un quarto libro alla serie…..so che l'ho già detto, ma ultimamente tutto ciò che leggo sono trilogie che diventano quadrilogie e o saghe infinite, perciò mi ripeto: Se hai scritto una trilogia, affermando che era una trilogia, dopo non puoi rimangiarti la parola data e aggiungere nuovi libri !!!!!!!
Scusate lo sfogo, ma è una moda che sta prendendo piede purtroppo, se non altro Scott Westerfeld si è limitato ad aggiungere solo un oibro alla serie e uno puù benissimo non leggerlo e limitarsi ai primi tre, che hanno la loro conclusione (tra l'altro molto bella) in Specials. Comunque mi sembra giusto parlare brevemente anche di questo quarto libro:

Trama: Il mondo è radicalmente cambiato grazie a Tally, il regime è morto e ora la gente è libera anche se molto confusa…..la chirurgia plastica è ancora molto usata e le telecamere sono ovunque, tutto viene registrato e messo in onda, apparire è ancora una volta più importante di essere, e la popolarità è tutto. Aya è una ragazza con una bassa popolarità ma molta curiosità, decisa a trovare una storia da raccontare al mondo e per farlo intende uscire dalla città e andare a esplorare il mondo selvaggio…chissà magari incontrerà Tally, la leggendaria ribelle ….
