Tired of Marvel and DC? How about some Valiant?
Heads up - the trailer and some of the teasers below are a bit graphic.
Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe is a six-episode digital series from Valiant Digital and Bat in the Sun Productions. Aaron Schoenke (Super Power Beat Down) is directing from a script written by himself, Sean Schoenke, Joe Harris, and Andrew Rowe.
Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe stars Michael Rowe (Arrow) as Colin King, aka Ninjak, Jason David Frank (Power Rangers) as Bloodshot, Derek Theler (Marvel’s New Warriors) as X-O Manowar, John Hennigan (Glow) as The Eternal Warrior, Ciera Foster (Two and a Half Men) as Livewire, Chantelle Barry (Entourage) as Roku, Kevin Porter (Dodgeball) as Armstrong, Alex Meglei (Divergent) as Archer, Damion Poiteir (True Blood) as Shadowman, and Craig Robert Young (The Last Ship) as Neville Alcott.
Like what you see? The trailer above was preceded by five brutal exclusive teasers. CBR had the first with Michael Rowe. Gamespot had the second with Ciera Foster. IGN had the third with Jason David Frank. Syfy Wire had the fourth with Chantelle Barry. Comicbook.com had the fifth with Derek Theler.

Series Review: Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe from Bat in the Sun.
Series Review: Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe from Bat in the Sun.
When Valiant announced a couple years ago that they were going to be producing a limited live action series based on their comic book properties, I was immediately on board. Their partnership with Bat in the Sun, a popular YouTube channel featuring superhero battles, was icing on the cake. The premise of Ninjak fighting the likes of Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, Livewire, and more was the whipped…

I thought about my Fancasts for a Valiant Cinematic Universe again and realized, that I had more characters thought out then I thought.
so, here is a current list of my VCU Fancast

the first one is not really a fancast, since I believe Dinesh Shamdasani himself said in an interview regarding the Bloodshot movie, that he wanted to do a MCU-style post-credit scene with Ken Watanabe as Toyo Harada.

I’ve already talked about this before, and while I really liked Ciera Foster as Livewire/Amanda McKee in the series, my dream casting for a big screen version would be Freema Agyeman.

My first choice for Armstrong/Aram Anni-Padda, would have been Bud Spencer, but then I’d need a time machine to make this cast happen and I wanted to keep it realistic.
I’ve recently watched Russel Crowe’s “Unhinged” and while I didn’t care too much for the movie, it showed him in a very different light that made me realize that he could pull of Aram pretty well.

Onto the next of the Immortal Brothers, Timewalker/Ivar Anni-Padda. While reading “Timewalker” Ivar reminded me a lot of a blend between David Tennant as the 10th Doctor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Having Tennant play another time traveler would feel pretty lazy and i feel like he’s too “distinctly British” for Ivar. So I went for Hiddleston, because we’ve already seen him pull of pretty much everything that is needed to bring the Timewalker to life.

the youngest brother, The Eternal Warrior/Gilad Anni-Padda, took me some time to figure out but then it hit me. As much as I dislike casting another MCU actor for a main role in the VCU, I went for Sebastian Stan because he’s just got the right look and could bring the action as well as the emotion.
(also, the official casting for Gilad, according to IMDB, is Dave Bautista, who played Drax im the MCU, so.....)

Lastly, a bit of an odd one..... I am a big fan of Doug Jones and would really love to see him get more roles that allow him to show his face. The extremely sickly looking and almost zombie-like Doctor Silk is not really the typ of monster he usually plays but I am sure he would be able to get Silk’s frail yet menacing nature across and there is even a somewhat romantic-tragic backstory that would give Doug Jones the chance to make Silk a little more sympathetic.

Did Kai have any sort of family after losing her foster family and becoming the Demon King? Or did she only have her husband?
Yes actually!!! A lot of Kai’s own story involves her own found family collection (i say collection just. cuz she tends to outlive them)
I’ve briefly mentioned she has a few kids and you see them in one of my sketchbook tours
but she also has a group of friends who she was close to
and the opening chapter of one of her ‘stories’ involves her dealing with the loss of a close friend she considered family (she even tried to go through legal means to see him but when humans turned around and said fuck you she snuck in. I can actually post this writing if people wanna read it?)
She also has some of her adoptive family still alive tho the bloodline is thinner. The Hellsing family she was raised in still exists to a point in her story (before the great catastrophe at least) Her whole ‘became the demon king’ thing happened when her uncle attacked her but she was able to get her sister in law and unborn nephew to escape while she distracted the rest (i have a whole ass animatic planned for this to the song “monster” from frozen’s musical. someday. someday I’ll be able to sit down on it weep)
This nephew was the one who hired Ren to help find “the king of fear” as she was known at that point. Alex is a good boy. His son was the one who went to find his great aunt after Ren’s death and she fully became a fallen god and offered her a place to stay and just. try to relax. She ended up falling into a deep sleep for a while and his family was the ones to build the ‘tomb’ she normally rests in when ever she has these extreme ‘low energy’ periods which can last between 5 years to her longest one was 5000. Typically she’ll rest for between 20-50 years at a time. and there’s a legit reason she does this too. But that’s not about family---
Point is that family is still very fond of their matriarchal demoness and she helped them found “Prometheus” a group to help humans deal with monsters and monsters live in peace. (cuz boy howdy do people have trigger fingers) there are other groups in their world with either similar goals or ones to ‘suppress’ monsters (example: The Order is a group who sees monsters as tools and lesser beings. sometimes Prometheus is forced to work with them and normally they send strong demons or dragons and such so that The Order can’t do anything to their operative. it was on one of these collaborations that Kai kidnapped Booberry from them. she regrets nothing.)
Kai often just refers to the current descendant as just “her nephew” as she’s too lazy to shove the amount of “great” in front of it because she’s old. there’s only one case of a niece and that’s where the bloodline ended (again that’s another story all together)
When Kai woke up after the Great Catastrophe alone she ended up meeting a young man named Leo (who if you look in Kai’s tag on my blog you can see him!) Who she bonded with and she likes hanging out with (and there’s other things but I’m not gonna talk about it)
There’s also her ‘generals’ and a few of them are gonna show in TLC soon (just a brief cameo) A group of 4 who’ve met Kai in a few incarnations and they always tend to get along. Original names were Matt, Trisha, Faith, and Maki is Maki (she’s an elf so she lives longer) Current names are Byron, Tiffny, Jacob and Maki. These four actually form Ren’s party when he’s trying to find his wife at the actual start of “Nightmare’s Dream” and you learn they each have a connection to Kai through the story.
Matt/Branden/Byron; he’s featured in the writing I mentioned up top, he’s kinda similar to Leo in the way he interacts with Kai as an almost human morality pet for Kai. He used to be Kai’s student when she was teaching, and his father was the warden at the jail her friend Sammy was in (this is the friend she lost) Matt can see through her disguise when she’s showcasing nightmares. Kai can cause hallucinations on targets using her ‘fear’ hence her title “king of fear” and normally they are only visible to her and her target. But Matt can see them.
He ends up getting in trouble a few times; once with a tribe of demons who want to turn children into imps, once with the literal Anti christ, once with a haunted house. And each time Kai was there and ends up saving him.
Matt later is in an accident and ends up reincarnating as a winged human named Branden and has all his past memories. So when he starts working at Prometheus as one of their ‘informants’ (aka he goes to gather information in both human and supernatural affairs. he’s referred to often as the angel of trust because of his silver tongue) and he meets her again he shouts something from one of his classes with her causing her to snap back on reflex until she realizes (running joke is Kai loathes Julius Ceaser and if you say his name she always whips around shouting “WAS A SLUT AND A HARLOT” in a very aggressive tone. It makes people laugh when she does and she always gets embarrassed afterwards)
The two of them end up working together for a while and become good friends (and maybe a bit more but they never state really) but then when with his new work partner Trisha (nicknamed angel of death, she works in the sector that deals with cleanup) he ends up betraying Prometheus and Trisha rips his wings off and kills him (this is the context between the ‘redraw’ meme I do every few years of a man with a bleeding back drowning)
Trisha is also someone who grew close to Kai (hence she killed Branden because his folly led to Kai nearly going berserk) but she was killed by a sleeper agent from the order. And this is how Kai lost two of her close friends.
Now backing up to Sammy the inmate one; he was with her when Kai met her first child, the young moon goddess Artemis. Arty is a constant for the demoness ever since she picked her up in the woods (her arc also has one of my favorite kai lines: (which i can’t find the direct line but)
Sam shuddered as he looked around the woods, “Do you ever feel like there’s 100 eyes watching you?”
“Yes but it didn’t work out so we broke up.” The demon responded flatly as she looked around with a deep set scowl.
While she was out with Sammy when he was hunting they ended up finding a little girl who turned out to be a new goddess and her elder sister was kidnapped by the embodiment of Greed in his attempt to become a god. Kai ends up stopping this but also kinda ends up becoming Arty’s mom. While she doesn’t raised Arty fully she does do a lot of teaching and such for her and does refer to her as “her daughter” and Arty calls her mom. when the great catastrophe occurs, Arty is one of the few gods who remained when the rest went to new ‘realms’ or simply vanished and is considered one of the main gods of their world because of this.
And then there’s her son Ganon, an Orc Lord she adopted when his village was ruined. he currently poses as her ‘demon king’ while she pretends to be the chancellor (this is the ruse she uses. normally heroes will fight the ‘king’ and lose but if they actually are a threat or have poor reasoning she kills them from behind. this is also how the story starts as someone found a spell to try and incapacitate her buttt)
There’s also morte and her daughter demeter (I’ve shown them before, a set of necromancers) who she’s very friendly with. Demeter even calls her aunty Kaya and loves to sit on her lap and such during meetings. (i have one snippet when Kai was recruiting someone to their side but hadn’t told her yet she was the REAL demon king and Demeter was sitting on her lap laughing) Morte is thankful to Kai for saving her circus (Morte runs a circus that helps those stuck in limbo pass on but at one point demons of sin over took it in a way to gather souls)
There’s also her friend Ciera, the daughter of the girm reaper. she’s Kai’s best friend for the most part of her life, and is the one who helps Ren when the gods of life and death try to prevent him from reincarnating again (which is like other things a whole other story) (she also briefly shows in Bone Stealer at one point. While visiting bunny’s sick grandmother, Bunny and Steve run into Ciera as she’s leaving. Steve stops Bunny from attacking her) She’s over all chill.
There’s also Nicki. Kai’s ‘twin’ brother. He’s the ‘bad guy’ through the arc that contains Leo and sets up ‘the great Split’ that Kai will cause (this is lore/plot stuff) He originally was raised to hate her by their maternal Uncle who’s a arch mage like Ren however he’s fallen due to his hatred of Kai’s birth. Nicki is not really her brother (in the first life) but a failed clone of the demoness. When Kai is reborn Nicki gets to actually be her brother and the two get along really well and he’s very protective of his sister now that he understands what her actual deal is and not the bs his uncle fed him. Before the rebirth too Nicki helped kai solve some stuff and worked with her until his death (unlike her, he was not immortal)
And then Kai actually has two bio children with Ren! Akito her son takes after her and he’s the one who takes over her role as the true demon king of Tir-Na-Nocht so she’s able to die and try life again, and a daughter, Rei who takes after Ren in looks but... she’s a himbo. pure moron. she got her grandpa’s himbo gene strong. She’s a cat girl who works with her brother and she is the head of the guard.
Aki actually has his own story where he grew up in a ‘mundane’ world but then his entire class got ‘isekaid’ to another. it gets shown that this isn’t truly the case. the great ‘split’ mentioned above was Kai literally broke the world in two realms. She made one primarily humans and high tech and then the other was magic and mostly monsters. there are a mix of both but it cut down heavily on the murder. She raised Aki in the human side for his and Rei’s safety due to them being the children of a fallen god (mama worries) and Aki inherited his mother’s odd ‘status’ “Hero/Demon King” so he has to not expose his demon nature and also stay below the radar (it turns out the person who summoned them was attempting to break a centuries old treaty) until his mother and father can figure out what happened to him (thankfully he can go to a church and his older sister Arty can act as a messenger but there’s a bit of a time split in the worlds) That world is actually the one “Fae Rules” takes place in o7o.
She also is friends with a dead prince named “Shade” (yes this is who you think it is) as well as her ‘cousin’ Sena (who she loves to give shit to)
And in her second life she obvs has her brother, cousins, her father (her father’s boyfriend/her manny), aunt’s etc!!!
So yes; she had family other than her husband!!!! And she cherishes them all.
#ask#anon#nightmare's dream#sorry this got long#but i have so much stuff on kai's story and lore and just sfjdokjfkdsgsf#SHES MY BABY OKAYYYYY#KAI HAD FOUND FAMILY BEFORE I EVEN KNEW THE TROPE NAME#also i have a wip animatic of her dad's bf#when she was a kid after rebirth#and she just abused the guy unintentionally

Prologue
When I was a girl, my mother was frequently unwell. In the harsh light of day, it was obvious how her skin carried a sickly pallor, greyish and faded. Her fingertips, the full point of her lips and the ridges of her ears were often tinged blue, a condition I was told was a result of poor circulation or respiration.
The story changed often.
Her hair was of a similar shade, pale ash, near white and straw-like to touch. The only thing vibrant about her was the blue of her eyes and her smile, sharp and cunning and always ready to laugh even if it left her winded and weak.
My father did his best to care for her and then myself, added to the bargain. I was an unexpected arrival to be sure, but never an unwanted one.
Life, as they say, went on. Mom was sick, staying home to brew her teas and her weird concoctions that made the whole house smell like mint and mosswood. Dad would work on her good days and I would go to after-care to kick balls into a chain fence and try to avoid the kids who wanted to talk to the girl with the “ghost mom”.
That’s what they called her. The ghost. Sometimes kids would provoke me, tell me my mom was already dead, we just didn’t notice.
I gave my fair share of split lips and black eyes. I received a few too.
One afternoon when one of the women who minded us came out into the yard, her hands wringing and her face screwed up with the enormity of the news she would have to lay upon my nine year old head, I had assumed she was coming to tell me my mother had died.
It was not so.
A tired man, overworked and underpaid had fallen asleep in the cab of his sixteen wheeler and driven through the medium and into the side lane. I was told with a shaking voice, that my father had died instantly. He did not suffer.
Of course he didn’t, I remember thinking. Because even at that age I knew, suffering was something only the living did.
--
I don’t remember seeing my mother cry. I honestly don’t remember seeing her much after the funeral. With no other family and the dry crackle of her cough spilling blood into her lips, she was placed in hospice care and I was packed off to the nearest foster family.
I never knew what happened to our house, to our old blue sofa and the fridge that hissed when you opened the door. I had a garbage bag full of clothes and a few precious heirlooms. A stuffed rabbit my father had given me for my third birthday, a picture of the three of us at Lake Michigan, a copy of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe my father had been reading to me. I took one of his shirts from the laundry. An old tatter grey t-shirt with some band I didn’t know that still had the smell of his sweat and his shampoo clinging to it.
The first night in the group home, I held it like a blanket in my arms and salted it with my tears. I had no word for the enormity of the feeling inside me. I was too small. I shrunk it down, made it smaller, and stored it in the back recesses of my heart.
Three months later I was an orphan. My mother had passed in her sleep. The state paid for the funeral, a simple box in a simple plot with no marker, no headstone. I asked if she was going to be buried near my father, but was given no response to settle my wounded heart.
Still in the black dress my current foster family had leant me and in the black shoes that pinched my feet, a man with a shock of white-grey hair approached me on the lawn of the cemetery.
“Are you Cyra Clark?”
My name was “Ciera” then, but he spoke it with a strange accent I could not place. I remember thinking he must have had the same illness as my mother, because his skin was of a dark gray coloring and his lips were tinged with blue.
“Yes…” I said, not bothering to correct him. I was no longer unaccustomed to bad news and simply anticipating more with a level of numbness that I could only guess all who lose too much too quickly feel. I met his eyes with my own darkened ones, the same cerulean blue as my mother’s staring back at me.
Coldness spread down my arms and tingled at the tips of my fingers when he produced from within his black suit what I recognized as a sword. It was in a dark sheath, decorated with fine silver embroidery that caught the light even under the clouds of the day. He pulled the blade free, swirling patterns of grey and black emblazoned over its surface, and dropped it on the ground before me.
“You have but two options before you, Cyra, trueborn daughter of Aisline Selzar. You may remain here, live out your days in the world of your father, untroubled… or you pick up that sword, and you come with me. And I will care for you and show you the world of your mother.”
I was nine years old. I was an orphan. There was nothing to go back to and even worse to look forward to. Perhaps if my father had read me more fairytales, I would have recognized the trap laid before me.
But he hadn’t, and I didn’t, and with a trembling hand I picked up the sword.

Kells followed Ciera Foster who‘s a political activist and is always present at the LA protests. I think that‘s how they met bc she followed him back and he‘s been liking and commenting on her stuff since. I could actually see him become a bigger part at those protests and collab with her for maybe a speech or something. And side note - she‘s freakin prettyyy and I would love to see him with a woman like her.
I assume that they met at one of the protests too. He also gave her the opportunity to speak at one of the demonstrations, which is great :). I don’t think that he would like to hold a speech to be honest, because I don’t think that’s how he fights his fights. I think that he prefers to take action to support the protests like walking with other protestors, providing them with water and snacks and covering a protest song than trying to convince and motivate others with his words. I think that a woman like her might be a bit too fierce for him :D!

Michigan Teen Disappears, Mother Desperate To Find Her
“I’m spastic. I’m desperate. I want my baby back,” Ciera Milton said.
A 17-year-old Eastpointe, Michigan girl went missing on Jan. 4, after her cousin reportedly picked her up from her home.
According to WXYZ, Zion Foster, 17, traveled with the family member to Detroit’s west side (Eastpointe is a suburb on the east side of the city). Zion’s mother, Ciera Milton, revealed after her daughter disappeared, she discovered some disheartening information regarding the cousin after reviewing the teen’s phone records.
Milton alleged that the cousin had been inappropriate and told her that he hadn’t seen Zion.
“He was trying to talk to her and get with her and things like that. She’s underage, then I find out that drugs and things like that are also included in this. So, I don’t know what their lifestyle is. I don’t know what they’re about,” Milton told the news outlet.
Eastpointe Police aren’t saying there’s a connection between the cousin and Zion’s disappearance.
Witnesses have come forward claiming they’ve seen the teenager, including one tip that Zion was near a service station where her cellphone last pinged.
Other tips have come from more sinister sources attempting to take advantage of an extreme situation.
“They’re coming with information stating that they have my baby held hostage or that she’s going to be sold or she’s going be killed.”
The desperate mother expressed that she just wanted her daughter to come home. She also spoke about receiving alarming text messages that demanded money. They also claimed that Zion was no longer in Michigan and threatened to exploit her sexually.
One tipster swindled Milton out of a couple of hundred dollars.
“I’m spastic. I’m desperate. I want my baby back,” Milton said. “I ended up giving $200.”
Two police agencies– Detroit and Eastpointe– investigated a potential location for Zion, but it didn’t pan out.
A former FBI agent, John Anthony, weighed in on Zion’s disappearance and the actions Milton has experienced, telling WXYZ, “It’s not all that unusual in this age of technology. The problem is, how do you decipher the good from the bad? If someone was truly helping, wanted to help to locate the missing person, that would be the last thing that they would do.”
An Eastpointe police officer told the news outlet that three detectives are currently working on the case. He says Zion’s disappearance is a top priority.
Black and Missing Foundation also posted a picture of Zion with information about her disappearance on Instagram.
”MI: – 17y/o Zion Rachelle Foster was last seen Tuesday (Jan. 4) at her home in the 22000 block of Melrose Court in Eastpointe. Family members believe Foster is being held against her will. They believe she could possibly be a sex trafficking victim in another state, according to police. Zion is 5’1” and weighs 120lbs. She was last seen wearing her Detroit Wing Company uniform.”
If you have any information on Zion’s whereabouts, call Eastpointe police at 586-445-5100.
