Okay so. The biggest Marxist party in France is trotskyist and if it's not too much trouble, I would really like a rundown of why every ML I've talked to hates trots? Because there aren't many other options to be honest

basically it is because every trotskyist party is an anti-solidarity dead weight on the socialist left. they're almost inevitably hypersectarian and stuffed to the brim with grifters, opportunists, and careerists. they have absolutely no shame and see everything as a branding excercise and as an opportunity for sectarian digs and relitigating arguments from thirty, forty, fifty years ago. they often take soft-imperialist positions, both-sidesing nato imperialism and scoffing at the idea of critical support.

they also habitually turn into cults of personality that close ranks around sexual predators, but that's not endemic to trotsykist parties, that also happens with demsocs and MLs and maoists and anarchists and [checks notes] uh oh all the liberal bourgeois and right-wing political parties too.

i don't have a particular hypothesis for why trots are so uniquely fucking obnoxious, but i theorize that like--from the 70s onward, most western countries had an ML and a trotskyist org engaged in pointless sectarian warfare as the former toed the CPSU line and the latter railed against them, both to the exclusion of actually doing anything useful. after the dissolution of the USSR, the ML parties more or less collapsed or went entirely directionless for a long time. as a result, trotskyists have been spending three decades in parties that have no particular goal or point, and as such have completely ossified, bureaucratized, and become terminally infested with grifters.

i obviously don't know the french political context, so i can only describe my experience: my ML org has worked happily side by side with anarchists and democratic socialists--we have never been able to work with trots.

i do love spicy food though i have like 15 hot sauces that i use for everything i pour those boys into soup on top of sushi into stews (previously) on toast. i even had them on pancakes 🥰🥰 which was SO good

I'm so glad you like the emotions they carry T.T I really make it a point to base my characters in an emotional foundation, it's a conscious decision I make. I believe that the root of feeling human lies in our capacity to feel things. Not in gratifaction persay, but in how the world impacts us. Living is...traumatic lmao And people are reactionary creatures. We experience life and life, for better or worse, will experience us in return.

Something bad happens, and people find ways to lash out for it. Whether it be by physical or emotional means. They'll inflict something back on the world, but we always have a choice if it'll be a good or bad retaliation. With my characters I try to balance the good and bad things that they inflict on the world and people around them. Keeping in mind that the world will lash back if they go too far. It helps the world and people feel a little more real y'know?

Hey, answering the last ask about echoes of the original in translated texts, try to look for papers about the concept of palimpsests in translation. There's also studies on intertextuality and translation (including some about how older-slash-previous translations can influence newer ones) also, if you want to talk about it, I LOVE translation studies so I'm always willing!!

@chrono197 some more stuff if you need it!! I definitely agree with looking into intertextuality~

Ok but I need to say it, if you ever re-write the first 3 volumes of RWBY I will be HERE for it; especially fleshing out ruby's character because honestly crescent rose is probably my favourite bit of anime engineering and she had so much potential (I've only seen up to volume 4 so I dont know if they actually take her character anywhere).

But yeah, just know that if you DO write it you already have a fan

(I have more to say but this is too long already (please do it though I'm lirerally begging))

ahhh i’m really glad to hear that!! and yeah when i do my rewrite i’m planning on putting a lot of time and energy into actually making ruby the Main character. they definitely give her a little more depth in the later seasons but she’s still the least developed of the main four characters imo, which is a huge shame. happy to know that someone will be reading it when i get around to it!

no you’re so correct, i love this about the show but team rwby hasn’t been the protags since volume 6, time to give them all a chance

one thing i think is kinda cool about rwby is that everyone in the main cast has a bit of a chance at being the protagonist every few volumes. it’s a rotating ensemble cast where some characters’ stories feel a little bit more relevant for a bit before another character’s kinda takes over. is it executed perfectly? not really, but it’s a neat writing idea that i’ve always liked and has always kinda reminded me of how d&d parties usually play out, which is something i find more interesting than just having one main character and a bunch of side characters
