can't express accurately how happy it makes me that c.s. lewis did not leave room for many interpretations in narnia. it's christian and you can't get around it. susan chose to care more about worldly things than what matters and he said what he said. the lion is Jesus. evil is evil and good is good and people have to choose. and that makes some readers angry because it's nearly impossible to ignore and they want to ignore it. they want it to be something else and they can't make it something else without making it not narnia. love that. that is doing it right
#that's. how. it. should. be#if there's room for interpretation in your writing as a christian you are doing it wrong#if people read your work and get to pick and choose what it means and you left it OPEN to interpretation-#-and they can divorce your fantasy world from the truth? you are doing it wrong#looking at you john ronald reuel#readers you're upset because susan cares more about “nylons and lipstick” than Aslan? 1. that's not really what lewis said#2. you should be upset because she made the wrong decision#and if you're upset because you can't get around the christianity in narnia let me share something with you - that's the point#it's a christian series#it's telling you christian things. this is not lord of the rings. this is not Cool Fantasy World open to interpretation#you can't worship the fantasy world and ignore the christian truths#you can't separate the two. that's what it should be#that's what all christian writing should be#if you write something amazing and centuries later people host parades for your fictional world and there's no God in it? no truth?#wrong. you did it wrong. they should not be able to separate the two - unless the point of your writing was to write a cool story#congratulations you wrote a cool story. but did it point people to the truth? unavoidably? no? then what a waste of freaking time#what a waste of a beautiful God-given talent#okay I got off on a tangent#my point is: be upset because Narnia is Christian and you can't get around that with ease#I am so. glad. you can't get around that with ease#this is why Lewis is my favorite author in the root of me#he did it right. this is what we as christian authors should aspire to#not LOTR. Narnia. NARNIA.#christianity#narnia#the chronicles of narnia#thoughts in the tags#doverstar's thoughts#writing#authors

not to brag but my bf once said to me ''i hope the film adaptation of your favourites books will have an excellent cast, and doesn't miss out any major point in the plot, or nuances in development character ''

I love that even though Lewis sets up some great redemption arcs with Edmund and Eustace, he doesn't make them flawless or one-dimensional. They're both still rude, pushy, impatient, and unkind sometimes.
Even someone like Caspian, who is overall a really upstanding person, makes mistakes, like his freak-out at the end of Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I just really appreciate that Lewis has his characters grow and evolve, but still act like the children/teens they largely are.

Welcome to my Multiverse!
I worked on this piece for a few weeks, colouring a bit whenever I felt like it :) it’s a little different from my usual work, but I wanted to share it.
I did this same challenge two maybe three years ago and I was excited to do a redraw. I put the first version below for you to compare. It’s so fun to do. I have always had the ability to just immerse myself so completely in a world with stories that I can’t help but draw myself in it. Then I can put my mind at ease and allow myself to let it go and return to the real world. It’s a strange thing, but it helps me reign in my imagination. Otherwise I get stuck in it and forget to live my own life :)
I’m curious whether some of you might relate AND I want to challenge you guys! ☺️ I CHALLENGE YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN MULTIVERSE SELF :) You can do whatever you like with it. Choose whichever universes you want to draw yourself in and be creative. I’d love to see what you come up with, so make sure to @ me or send me a message, then I can find you. And add the hashtag #thecolourfulwitchdtiys
I’m already so excited. Love you guys! Good luck if you want to join 🩷💛🧡
Tumblr media
Up here is the first version. And I also have some sketches here. Some are very old, I’ve been chipping away at this project whenever I felt like it the past years, so it’s a pile of old and new stuff :)

Do you have any high fantasy book recs? I have enjoyed asoiaf and would like to explore more of the genre
Sure, you can see a lot in my book recs tag, with plenty of details, but here's a quick list of my favorite high fantasy series:
The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien (yes, everyone knows this one, but you might be a complete newbie to fantasy, so hey)
The Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett (ditto; also note I detest those reading order guides you may see around, I read the books as they were published (almost) and I was better than fine ok)
The World of the Five Gods, by Lois McMaster Bujold (I recommend again going with publishing order for the novels, then moving on to the Penric novellas, either publishing or chronological. I also rec her Sharing Knife series, though it's not a top favorite, her Spirit Ring novel is sweet and should appeal to YA fantasy fans, and I highly rec her Vorkosigan Saga to ASOIAF fans, though it's SF.)
The Chronicles of Amber, by Roger Zelazny (love this series so much, always rec it to fans of ASOIAF, and like GRRM I agree it desperately needs a tv adaptation)
The Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander (utter classic, very badly served by the Disney adaptation, needs a much better one)
The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis (another classic, and lol publishers really like "chronicles" don't they)
Pelmen the Powershaper series, by Robert Don Hughes (out of print for a long time sadly, but you may be able to find cheap used books)
and there's so much more, in low fantasy and other sub-genres (Naomi Novik's various series and novels are big loves of mine, and I adore Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series), check my tag!

“But we don’t need a reboot of Narnia because the last movies were so good—” I am eating you. I am tearing you apart with my bare hands. IT’S NOT A REBOOT OF THE NARNIA FILMS, IT’S AN ADAPTATION OF THE BOOKS. 3/7 BOOKS HAVE NEVER BEEN ADAPTED TO SCREEN. THE SILVER CHAIR HASN’T BEEN ADAPTED SINCE THE BBC MINISERIES. IT IS NOT ABOUT THE PAST FILMS. IT IS ABOUT TELLING A COMPLETE STORY.
But by this logic we don’t need, say, season 2 of [insert beloved yet cancelled television show here] because the first season was ~✨so good✨~

Prince Caspian x female!reader
[The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader]
Part II of Silver
Tumblr media
Plot overview: Three years after being crowned King and Queen of Narnia, the newly-wed rulers embark on an adventure over the unknown sea, where rumors of disappearing people and a mysterious green mist have shattered the once-peaceful waters. Only so many other surprises in their wake and difficulties will come for them, their reign, their trust, and their relationship. Thankfully, a couple of familiar faces won't let them face it alone.
Series warnings: female!reader, yet reader *still* has no name other than her alias (the Silver Knight, y'all, keeping it cringe), also queen of narnia for obvious reasons i guess, hehe. canon-typical violence, the fic follows the plot of the third movie (so if you haven't seen it don't come for me), cringy dialogue too, anything else i remember will be specified in each chapter ;)
A/N: you asked for this, and i delivered. hope you enjoy this. also, this moodboard has been in my drafts ever since silver ended. also, when i thought i was done writing, i kinda suffered a whole mental breakdown and decided to start again, so that's why it's taken me a WHOLE YEAR to bring this to u (pls don't hate me). I'm still baffled at all the love silver received, so let's make this one golden (I'm so good with puns omfg)
Taglist: @sskhair, @sassyandclassyx, @thefictionalgemini, @glimmering-darling-dolly, @just-levyy, @noortsshift,
Chapter I - Voyages at Dusk, Treaders by Dawn
General Taglist: @angiewhoohooo, @azaleaniath, @mishaandthebrits, @celestialcharles

"Peter William Pevensie!"
There was more fear in the cry than anger, but the boy was too young to tell the difference, and he flinched, but did not hide his face.
"Oh, Peter!" Softer she spoke, as she crouched down to lightly brush cool fingers over the bloody cheek, and the boy relaxed, grinned gamely.
"I'm alright, Mummy. Was just James, got me with his sword."
*
Peter, from the Greek Petros/Petra, meaning rock, stone. The name bestowed by Jesus, who is called Christ, on His disciple Simon (bar Jonah).
"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
One of the first disciples of Christ, denied his Lord three times, saw the Christ after His resurrection, received forgiveness, lead the early church from Jerusalem, died a martyr's death upon an upside-down cross.
*
"And that explains why your shirtsleeve is gone, hmm? And this tear in your knickerbockers, I suppose."
Her hand was gentle on his hair, and he sighed, proud of the way his arms hurt, his knee ached, the taste of blood that still lingered on his tongue. He was a knight, after all, like King Arthur. He had friends to protect, and battles to fight. Wounds were things to be proud of.
"Did you fight honourably?"
He looked up into his mother's face, and her eyes told him this was important, even as her lips smiled.
Peter knew what 'honourable' meant; Daddy had told him. It meant not hitting a girl, and not hitting a boy when he was down, or hurt, or smaller than Peter. It meant being fair, and not cheating. It meant being kind, even to people he didn't like.
He nodded. "I think so. Least, I tried." He had almost taken an extra swing at Billy, after the other boy had lost his sword, but James had stepped in front of him, and made sure Billy got his wooden weapon back, before the fight continued.
"Good." Mummy's whole face looked happy then, and she stood up straight, took his hand. "Come along then, and we'll clean you up."
*
William, from the Germanic, will-helm, or more often rendered resolute protector. The name of England's first Norman king, 'William the Conquerer', as well as that of Scotland's guardian, William Wallace.
Of Wallace: "He was appointed Guardian of the kingdom not so much by election as by divine intervention..." — Walter Bower
Also the name of that prolific playwrite and poet, William Shakespere, and of England's passionate abolitionist, William Wilberforce.
*
Peter followed obediently, only slowing as they passed the baby's bassinet on the way to the kitchen.
"He's asleep," his mother said quietly, "Don't wake him."
Peter was quiet, glancing back as he stood by the table, while Mummy fetched a rag, wet it at the sink.
"Will Eddie be able to play with me soon?" he asked at last. "I know he's still small, but he'll get strong soon, won't he?"
There was a little pause, before his mother came toward him with the cloth, and with a smile, picked him up and seated him on the edge of the kitchen table. He dangled his legs, delighted, but not distracted.
"Won't he, Mummy?"
"Oh, I expect so." The rag brushed his cheek, and he couldn't help squeaking, just a little. "He'll be out there in the street with you before I can turn around." She stopped wiping away the blood for a moment, and looked him in the eye, quite serious. "You'll still need to watch out for him, you know. Even when he's bigger. You're already so sweet with him, but try to keep being kind, always. Try to remember that, alright?"
Peter looked back at her, feeling like he was a knight being told something very important by the queen. "Yes, ma'am."
"Good child." She kissed his forehead, and went back to the work of cleaning his cuts.
Peter sat as still as he could, only swinging his legs gently, careful not to kick his mother, going stiff whenever a fresh burst of pain came.
She was cleaning his knee when Susan started in roaring from the nursery upstairs, and almost at the same moment, Ed gave a little cry.
"Oh, dear." His mother made a face, something he didn't usually see grown-ups do, and she lifted him down to the floor. "Peter, dear. Try to keep the baby quiet while I fetch Susie?"
"Yes, Mummy."
Peter didn't mind being told to look after Eddie, he liked his baby brother. Peter was tall enough to rest his arms on the edge of the bassinet, and he leaned in, murmuring gentle things like Daddy did.
"Hullo now, Eddie. It's alright, little fellow. I'm here. Big brother's here."
The thin mewing noise stopped, and dark eyes peered out of the pale face at him.
"Don't worry, Mummy will be back soon, she just has to get Susie."
Peter put out one hand, knuckles still scraped and red, dirt still under his fingernails, and stroked a gentle finger down the baby's cheek.
"That's right. Big brother's here. You're alright, Eddie."
He was surprised by the force with which the tiny fingers wrapped around his, but then he grinned, delighted.
"See, I knew you were getting stronger! It'll be just as Mummy said, you'll come playing with me in no time. And I'll let you have my best sword, I can make a new one. I'll teach you how to fight, don't worry."
The little blond boy was still talking when his mother came down the stairs, holding her now mollified second-born, and she stood for a moment, watching and smiling, a deep sudden gratefulness welling up in her heart. He would be well, Edmund would. How could he not with such a loving protector as Peter?
