High key hoping that the success of AC6 makes FromSoft realize mecha is popular again and they can finally remaster or sequel Chromehounds, complete with the Neroimus War online 3-way battle campaign.
I want fully modular mecha again.
Yes I'm aware M.A.V exists but the studio is so small and it's been a decade in development, plus the discord and forums are so dead it won't be as populated as a FS game.

I wonder what the modern consensus would be for Chromehounds if it came out today.
Like genuinely, I'm curious how that would pan out in a few key ways.
'From' is like 900,000,000% more famous and obsessed over than they were in 2006. For reference this is THREE YEARS before Demon's Souls. Immediate adoption based entirely on name recognition is highly likely, a vastly LARGER audience is guaranteed at day 1. Beyond that? Curious.
The internet and how gamers interact with information about games has evolved since 2006- gone are the days of months passing before someone figures out what a stat means, between data miners, obsessive testers, youtube guides, and how LARGE an audience day 1 would expect to experience- the evolving meta and evolving understanding of how to play the game would be vastly different than what we experienced in 2006
Appreciation for "Different" games has arguably risen in recent years with the caveat that you (for some dumb reason) usually need a big dev name attached for people to allow the game to be different. It's 'From'. People would "allow" it to be different. But the ways in which Chromehounds is different is... substantial.
Would Chromehounds be shunned for its lack of speed? With the recent explosive popularity of Armored Core 6 it's likely many would shun it, just as they did at launch, for being different in this specific way- but would the exponentially higher initial audience counter-act this loss?
How many people would make videos trying to dig into Chromehounds as if it's a souls game
Would people become half as obsessed as I am about the modular mech building gameplay? It's literally 300x more extensive and interesting than anything Armored Core has EVER done but it's in a game that's slower pace and was banished to an exclusivity deal on 360 before 'From' had a substantial audience- who's to say.
Would either 'From', via creative developing, or the player base itself enact an 'honor rule' in regards to Comms? Would it become an afterthought feature like it did when Parties were added to xbox or would it become a respected part of the gameplay loop? I personally "assume" that From would like, simplify/buff commander by letting everyone see the detailed radar if a commander exists- so actual voice comms wouldn't matter like the OG but comms would still matter. IDK.
I miss chromehounds still. It's been nearly 2 decades. I miss it.

From Software had Framegride (Frameglide? Flamegride? It was Japan only, and Japanese doesn't have the letter "l" so), Chromehounds, Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit, Another Century's Episode, and while they didn't make the original Steel Battalion, they did make Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, the 360 Kinect game.
From Software used to have a lot of mech games.
I'm going to be honest: Up until just now I thought Metal Wolf Chaos and Armored Core were the same series. I guess a company can have multiple mech games or whatever

Pile Bunker:
In game terms, the Pile Bunker can be mounted by Battlemechs and IndustrialMechs on the arms. Each arm can only carry one Pile Bunker. The Pile Bunker weighs one ton per every twenty tons the 'Mech weighs, plus two. The Pile Bunker takes up a number of critical slots equal to one per every twenty tons the 'Mech weighs, rounded up, plus one. It inflicts one point of damage for every five tons the 'Mech weighs. When punching with a Pile Bunker, the user can choose to fire the pile, expending one shot of ammunition (5 ammo per ton) and generating 5 heat, scoring a critical on the location hit with a -2 modifier. In addition, if armor remains after an attack where the Pile Bunker has been fired, roll for a second critical hit with a -2 modifier. For each critical dealt, also deal one point of internal damage to that location. A Pile Bunker that hits an unarmored location has the usual chance for inflicting critical hits. The Pile Bunker may be used as a standard melee weapon without firing, though it loses all effects related to criticals.
(based off of the general idea of an Armored Core/Chromehounds style pile bunker weapon)

Playing AC6 reminded me of a team-based pvp mech game I used to play on 360 called Chromehounds
Which turns out to be a FromSoftware game, of course

Blinx the time sweeper and Voodoo Vince are the first to come to mind despite not having played them outside of my older brother renting them when I was like 6.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Boltswas for some reason the first one I knew for sure was an Xbox exclusive that I'd played.
Gears of war 2&3, Chromehounds, Kameo and Bloodwake are also exclusives that I'd played and thought of, but I had to double check to make sure they were exclusives.
Ultimate gamer challenge
Name an Xbox-exclusive game that isn't Halo or Starfield.

I just saw this on steam yesterday and I couldn't be more excited. It looks like the love child of Sea of Thieves and Chromehounds. I've requested beta access 🤞 but I very much look forward to the development either way!

magic word that makes soulsborne obsessed from-fans do extensive research into hidden From Software gem "Chromehounds" to the point of becoming obsessed with this game they literally can't play today because 90% of the content is unobtainable without the online servers.
And then they, I don't know, spread the vibe until enough people ask From and they finally remake it or make a sequel or buy the rights and re-release it on PC or something.
#my posts#From Software#So tempted to tag the latest from mech game to get their eyes on this but in all honesty- Chromehounds has nothing to directly do with it#So I Will Practice Restraint.

[ad_1] It’s somewhat arduous to consider that Darkish Souls is now a decade previous. A real trendy vintage, this 2011 action-RPG reintroduced mainstream audiences to a devilishly old-school stage of excessive issue, replete with danger-filled spaces and monstrously arduous boss encounters.Developer From Software have been round because the mid 90s, pumping out formidable, bizarre and ambitiously bizarre titles just like the Armored Core and King’s Box collection along cult classics reminiscent of Steel Wolf Chaos and Chromehounds. Alternatively, it was once arguably 2009’s Demon’s Souls that really put the corporate at the map, earlier than Darkish Souls propelled it to family title standing.Following Darkish Souls’ enormous luck, From Device has since made a reputation for itself creating hardcore action-RPGs, together with two Dark Souls sequels along Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and the extremely expected Elden Ring.Alternatively, it’s tough to mention if any of that may’ve been imaginable with out the transformative impact Darkish Souls had. To nowadays, it’s nonetheless one of the vital easiest and maximum fondly remembered video games in From Device’s again catalog. With the intention to have fun the sport’s tenth anniversary, let’s reminisce on one of the crucial maximum iconic bosses that driven our abilities to absolutely the restrict. (Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Capra DemonWhilst it is not the primary boss Darkish Souls throws at you, the Capra Demon represented the sport’s first large roadblock for plenty of avid gamers. And the strangest section is that the boss itself isn’t overly tough. Moderately it’s the sector you combat in and the corporate it helps to keep.Upon stepping during the fog wall into the Capra Demon’s den, you might have mere milliseconds to react to a couple of undead hounds that right away price towards you. That preliminary surprise is typically subsidized up by means of the boss itself acting a perilous lunging assault that can burn up maximum of your well being bar. When you controlled to live to tell the tale that brutal creation, you’re then made keenly acutely aware of simply how tiny the Capra Demon’s area truly is. In essence, it’s an oblong field with a collection of stairs off to the aspect, which you'll use to nice merit by means of operating off to accomplish a leaping assault at the boss (whilst confidently removing one or either one of the hounds in doing so).The Capra Demon without a doubt isn’t the toughest boss in Darkish Souls, however this is a grim creation into how the sport’s stage design can ceaselessly serve to make bosses harder than they wish to be.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Gaping DragonAfter besting the Capra Demon and trawling during the depressing Depths, you’re met with one of the crucial gruesome creatures in all of the collection. The Gaping Dragon is big, and will simply knock you off your ft with its claws, tail and uncovered ribcage. The Gaping Dragon was once easiest handled by means of sticking to its rear, whilst making an attempt to cut off the tail to attenuate the danger of having hit. It’s now not a foolproof technique, then again, because the creature possesses a capability to actually vomit corrosive bile which spreads to hide a considerable portion of the sector.Gamers had to be sufficiently leveled up for this boss combat, because the Gaping Dragon’s well being bar is as massive because the creature itself. The boss does telegraph its assaults somewhat generously, which gave you a good period of time to steer clear of them, however one slip-up was once typically all it took for avid gamers to be despatched again to the bonfire.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Chaos Witch QuelaagYou’ve simply descended during the treacherous Blighttown, one of the vital trickiest spaces in all of the Darkish Souls collection, and trudged during the poisonous swamp at its base. What’s looking forward to you subsequent is a fire-breathing human/spider hybrid.
Yeah, it is not the prettiest position to be.Arguably probably the most tough boss on the level within the recreation you combat her, Chaos Witch Quelaag guards the second one of 2 Bells of Awakening had to growth thru to Darkish Souls’s 2d act: the trap-filled Sen’s Castle and the glistening town of Anor Londo past.Quelaag’s common assaults aren’t an excessive amount of of a ache to steer clear of, particularly if you happen to’ve gotten higher at evading assaults thank you in your dodge roll’s invincibility frames. Alternatively, her talent to respire fireplace and unfold lava around the ground of the sector can very much diminish the spaces you'll safely transfer in. And with out respectable fireplace resistance, those assaults can chunk thru your well being very quickly flat.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Nice Gray Wolf SifA md that’s as difficult as it's totally heartbreaking, the combat in opposition to Sif taxes the participant on such a lot of ranges. Sif wields the greatsword of his former grasp, whose grave he seems to be protective from you. Which means that you will have to be expecting large, sweeping assaults that quilt a deceptively massive a part of the sector, and realizing tips on how to successfully dodge thru assaults was once key to victory within the combat in opposition to Sif, as his assaults with the greatsword tired lots of stamina when blocked with a defend.Alternatively, arguably probably the most harrowing a part of the combat in opposition to Sif was once in having to position the deficient canine down. When his well being is very low, Sif’s assaults grow to be virtually listless, and he begins limping helplessly across the area. The scene is made much more impactful if you happen to whole Darkish Souls’ DLC growth earlier than combating Sif, because the content material provides you with a possibility to rescue Sif prior to now, when he was once only a wolf domestic dog, one thing he recollects when he meets you once more at some point. It’s a sad sendoff to one in all Darkish Souls’ coolest bosses, and its goodest boy.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Dragonslayer Ornstein & Executioner SmoughThe guardians of the radiant town of Anor Londo, Ornstein and Smough constitute one in all Darkish Souls’ toughest demanding situations, and arguably its maximum iconic. Ornstein makes an attempt to pin you down along with his lightning spear and fast actions, whilst Smough fees in along with his devastating hammer. In combination, the pair make a brutally efficient staff when you’re left scrambling for even the tiniest window to heal or get only one assault in.While you do arrange to take down any such titans, then again, the combat’s a ways from over. Progressing into section two, the surviving warrior will drain the lifestyles power of the opposite’s stays, very much powering themselves up within the procedure. If Ornstein is the rest fighter, he’ll develop absurdly massive and his assaults grow to be much more tough. If it’s Smough, his assaults are imbued with the lightning that made his spouse this type of risk.Taking down each Ornstein and Smough isn't any small feat, particularly if you happen to arrange to do it by yourself with out a avid gamers summoned for co-operative lend a hand. The pair don’t pass down with out a critical combat, although, successfully gatekeeping Darkish Souls’ ultimate act and one in all its Most worthy pieces: the Lordvessel, which helps you to warp between positive Bonfires.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Gravelord NitoGravelord Nito, the lord of the graves. Now there’s a name that instructions recognize. And as a md combat, he’s no slouch, both. You combat Nito within the innermost depths of the Tomb of the Giants, and his look leaves a long-lasting influence. Necessarily a mass of skeletons cloaked in a black gown, this boss’s large sword could also be (predictably) made from sharp bones.Nito’s were given extra tips up his sleeve than simply that bony sword, although.
He can use area-of-effect darkish sorceries to stay you at a distance, whilst additionally summoning skeleton squaddies to do his grimy paintings for him.Whilst Nito’s ghastly cool look is without a doubt his maximum iconic trait, the boss is superb at countering melee-based playstyles, which means that you could have to even the chances with your personal sorceries or pyromancies when you have any.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Gwyn, Lord of CinderIn what would grow to be one thing of a chain custom, the overall boss of Darkish Souls isn’t if truth be told its toughest, however it’s without a doubt its maximum poignant, thank you largely to the melancholic piano melody that performs right through the combat.Because the Lord of Cinder, Gwyn expectedly throws out fire-based assaults, maximum of that are along with his flaming sword. However he’s additionally were given an unpleasant snatch assault that may destroy your try if you happen to don’t give him the dignity he’s due.Gwyn doesn’t pass down simple, but if he does, the combat turns into a reflective capstone for your adventure during the dreary international of Lordran. The general risk has been toppled, and all that’s left to do is sacrifice your self to proceed Gwyn’s legacy, or snuff out the First Flame for excellent, ushering in a brand new Age of Darkish.(Symbol credit score: Bandai Namco)Knight ArtoriasThere’s a good quantity of bosses within the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for Darkish Souls, maximum of that are stunningly tough, vastly spectacular set items. However it’s possibly the DLC’s namesake that gives probably the most memorable problem now not simply within the growth, however arguably all of the recreation.Ate up by means of the Abyss, Artorias is ruthlessly fast at the draw, providing you with slightly any downtime between his onslaught of high-damage assaults. In truth, with such little time to assault or heal your self, the Knight Artorias boss combat calls for near-perfection from the participant, an enormous explanation why as to why the DLC shouldn’t be tackled till you’re a lot additional into the sport.Artorias himself exacerbates the entire procedure at part well being, when he starts to desperately unharness the whole lot he has to ship you hurtling again to the ultimate bonfire you rested at. Besting the knight is one in all Darkish Souls’ hardest demanding situations, however oh-so rewarding while you arrange to position him down for excellent.Nowadays's easiest Darkish Souls Remastered offers [ad_2] #Darkish #Souls #tenth #anniversary #celebrating #Darkish #Souls #bosses, , 2021-09-22 19:00:00 ,

I think for some it is the intimacy, for others it's the "fuck yeah" factor, and for still more it's both, or neither/something different.
Personally I'm 100% on the "fuck yeah cool robots" side of things.
It's why I like very grounded things like BT and Chromehounds over less realistically-treated stuff. I don't get any mileage out of connection with a 'Mech. To me it's solely a cool looking weapons platform to smite bad people with.
So a setting where there's little to no emphasis on the intimacy aspects and all on the "this is a tool of war" aspect definitely is more up my wheelhouse.
no one wants to hear it but you could replace all posts about the intimacy of piloting a mech with "I'm touch starved" and it'd be more honest
#and also imo tumblr (and fandom in general) has an issue with homogenizing similar works#to the point of sometimes ignoring or displacing the themes and tropes of the work they're imprinting these things on#I want to enjoy - for example - “Mecha Setting A” as it is#People adding or emphasizing tropes from other settings that are not part of “Setting A” annoys me#that is my own hang up though - it annoys *me* specifically#but it is a trend I have seen
