A damaged hard drive is another common cause. In this case scenario, a hard drive might be damaged and it will have bad sectors. Files on those sectors will be unavailable which brings us back to the precious cause.

The third cause is an unsuccessful system upgrade. In rare cases, a system will fail to update all the apps and all drivers which will cause the Mac to freeze on the loading screen.

In some cases, this issue can appear as a side effect of damaged hardware. Usually, peripherals are the ones that are damaged and not working properly. OS won’t be able to boot in order to prevent further damage.

RAM module failures are known to cause this problem as well. In this case scenario, a RAM module will have to be replaced or both, if both are malfunctioning.

Part 2. How to Restore Mac Stuck on Loading Screen

Mac not responding is probably the first phrase you are going to search with Google. Before you rush to the Apple repair center, make sure you have tried all of the steps included below. Chances are high that one of them will work and your Mac will be ready to be used within minutes and you can continue with your usage.

1. Restart the Mac

To prevent that, before reinstalling the operating system you should use Recoverit Mac Data Recovery software and recover your files. After you are done, you can reinstall the Mac OS and move or copy the files back on the computer. 1. Create a bootable USB drive

The first step is to actually create a bootable USB drive. You can use a DVD or CD as well, but USB is a bit easier and works with more computers. Open the Recoverit Data Recovery and click on 'Recover data from system crash'. Insert the USB into the USB port.

This is the same type of process you create when you want to install the operating system from a USB drive. A drive must be created using a special process. Just copying the files on it won’t be successful.

2. Click create

Choose the USB drive you want to use and click create. The software will move to the next screen and you will need to confirm. Don’t pull the USB at this point. If you remove it, the drive won’t work and you won’t be able to recover your files. The situation is the same if you use a CD or DVD disc.

3. Confirm USB drive formatting

Click on format now to delete all the files from the USB drive. This step may take a few seconds, depending on the size of the drive and the computer itself. Keep in mind that formatting will remove all the files and change the name of the drive. This is perfectly normal. We recommend you to use a blank USB drive or a drive with irrelevant data.

4. Wait for the process to complete

On this screen, you can see the entire process and how it is advancing. There is no need to tell you that you should reach 100% and then the process will be done. If you have an old computer you should give it more time to complete the process. Also, make sure you don’t play games or using advanced software during the creation of a bootable USB drive.

5. The process is completed

This is the last step for creating the bootable USB drive and you can see that it was created successfully. Once this screen is presented to you, be free to remove the USB drive. Now you are also ready to move to the next section which will help you extract the data from a failing Mac computer.

6. Boot from USB

At this point, all you should do is to boot from the USB drive or the CD/DVD you just created. To do so on a Mac, turn it on, and when you hear the sound, press the options button. 7. Select Deleted Files Recovery and the drive where the files were located

I recently upgraded to OS Catalina from Mojave. Using Mojave, I went through the painstaking process outlined on militarycac.com to have my Mac fully functional with my CAC reader, to include digitally signing PDFs using my Common Access Card. After upgrading to Catalina, I have been able to successfully use my CAC to access all sites and services, etc. EXCEPT digitally signing PDFs using my CAC enabled digital signature. This must have something to do with the new CAC abilities in Catalina.

Between mid October 2019 and mid February 2020 everyone in the Army was migrated to use their PIV Authentication certificate for Email access. You no longer use the Email certificate for Enterprise Email.

Mac users who choose to upgrade (or already have upgraded) to Mac OS Catalina (10.15.x) will need to uninstall all 3rd Party CAC enablers per https://militarycac.com/macuninstall.htm AND reenable the built in smart card ability (very bottom of macuninstall link above)

If you purchased your Mac with OS Catalina (10.15.x) already installed, you can skip the uninstall part above and follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Is your CAC reader Mac friendly?

Visit the USB Readers page to verify the CAC reader you have is Mac friendly.

'Some, not all' CAC readers may need to have a driver installed to make it work.

NOTE: Readers such as: SCR-331 & SCR-3500A may need a firmware update (NO OTHER Readers need firmware updates).

Step 2: Can your Mac 'see' the reader?

Plug the CAC reader into an open USB port before proceeding, give it a few moments to install

Step 2a: Click the Apple Icon in the upper left corner of the desktop, select 'About This Mac'

Step 2b: Click the 'More Info' (button) (Mac OS 10.6.x and older), Mac OS 10.7.x (and newer) proceed to step 2c

Step 2c: Click 'System Report..' (button) (Only shown in 10.7.x and newer)

Step 2d: Verify the CAC reader shows in Hardware, USB, under USB Device Tree. Different readers will show differently, most readers have no problem in this step. See Step 2d1 for specific reader issues.

Step 2d1: Verify firmware version on your SCR-331 or GSR-202, 202V, 203 CAC, or SCR-3500a reader. If you have a reader other than these 5, Proceed directly to step 3

If your reader does not look like this, go to the next step.

In the 'Hardware' drop down, click 'USB.' On the right side of the screen under 'USB Device Tree' the window will display all hardware plugged into the USB ports on your Mac. Look for “SCRx31 USB Smart Card Reader.” If the Smart Card reader is present, look at 'Version' in the lower right corner of this box: If you have a number below 5.18, you need to update your firmware to 5.25. If you are already at 5.18 or 5.25, your reader is installed on your system, and no further hardware changes are required. You can now Quit System Profiler and continue to Step 3.

Step 2d1b-SCR-3500A reader

If you have the SCR3500A P/N:905430-1 CAC reader,you may need to install this driver, as the one that installs automatically will not work on most Macs. Hold the control key [on your keyboard] when clicking the .pkg file [with your mouse], select [the word] Open

Step 3: Verify which version of MacOS do you have?

(You need to know this information for step 6)

Step 3a: Click the Apple Icon in the upper left corner of your desktop and select 'About This Mac'

Step 3b: Look below Mac OS X for: Example: Version 10.X.X.

Step 4: Figure out which CAC (ID Card) you have

(You need to know this information for step 6)

Look at the top back of your ID card for these card types. If you have any version other than the six shown below, you need to visit an ID card office and have it replaced. All CACs [other than these six] were supposed to be replaced prior to 1 October 2012.

Click: Go (top of screen), Utilities, double click Keychain Access.app

(You can also type: keychain access using Spotlight (this is my preferred method))

The 'bad certs' that have caused problems for Windows users now show up in the keychain access section on some Macs. These need to be deleted / moved to trash.

The DoD Root CA 2 & 3 you are removing has a light blue frame, leave the yellow frame version. The icons may or may not have a red circle with the white x

Hey guys! I have some not so good news. Apparently my Chromebook (the computer I use for Tumblr and other daily things) decided overnight to tell me that the Chrome OS on it is missing or damaged. So I'll have to go through a recovery process since I had all of my reaction icons and even more on it that may get lost in the system restore. I hope it doesn't, but if it does it means I'll be backed up on so much stuff to do. That said, a majority of my rp blogs, like Ludwig Von Drake, Igor, Donald Duck, and the rest will be out of commission until I can find a solution to the problem. However, this means that there isn’t much in the way of customization or developer-friendly features available at first glance. If you are looking to go beyond the basic capabilities of your Chromebook, the first step requires enabling Developer Mode, which is akin to gaining root access on your Android device.

If you are looking to enable Developer Mode on your Chromebook, here’s how!

Enable Developer Mode on a Chromebook

First, make sure that you back up and save any important information you may have stored on your device. Enabling Developer Mode wipes your login info and any locally-stored data which cannot be restored.

If your Chromebook is on, turn it off.

You will first have to go into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold the Esc key and refresh key (circular clockwise arrow key usually three spaces to the right of the Esc key) and then press the power button.

Keep holding the three buttons until a screen pops up that says “Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Please insert USB stick.” Don’t worry, this is just a part of the process and nothing is actually wrong with the OS.

Press and hold Ctrl and then press the D key.

If required, press Enter.

Wait for the device to restart and go through the Chromebook setup process again.

How to disable Developer Mode on a Chromebook

As easy as it is to enable Developer Mode on a Chromebook, it is even simpler to disable it.

Remember to backup your data once again as even disabling Developer Mode erases everything.

If the device is on, turn it off.

Once the screen that says “OS verification is off” shows up, press the space bar.

You will have to go through the Chromebook setup process again.

Cons of enabling Developer Mode

There are a lot of advantages to enabling Developer Mode on your Chromebook. It gives you access to the developer shell, allows you to install a standard Linux desktop environment, and is something you will need to enable if you are a Chrome OS developer. Developer Mode is certainly not for the average user and some amount of technical know-how is needed to take full advantage of this mode.

However, there are a few disadvantages that you need to be wary of as well.

Google doesn’t support Developer Mode, so you may be at risk of voiding your device warranty.

All the security features are disabled when Developer Mode is turned on.

You lose your data when enabling or disabling Developer Mode. As you can see from the steps required to disable it, an accidental press of the space bar at the wrong time is all you need to lose all your data once again. Making continuous backups if you’re working on something important is definitely recommended.

Chromebooks boot up extremely fast. But that is a feature you will lose when Developer Mode is enabled.

Flux Beamo Is a Powerful, Compact, and Affordable Laser Cutter

You know the feeling you get when something just works right out of the box? That’s the feeling I got when I did my first engraving with the new Flux beamo laser cutter and engraver. The relatively small footprint beamo uses frickin’ laser beams at different intensities and speeds to engrave or cut multiple materials for DIY projects.

Beamo‘s biggest selling point is its size. While many similar laser engravers are over 32” x 20”, Flux designed beamo to be significantly smaller, at 24.21” x 17.51”. For a device that’s meant to sit on a work surface or tabletop, space savings is a big deal, allowing you to store much more on the same surface as the beamo. The beamo also weighs significantly less than many laser engravers, at 48.5 pounds, making it light enough to take it wherever you need it. Unlike some of the larger units, however, the working area is slightly smaller at 11.81” x 8.27”. You have to take cost into account with units like these, and the MSRP on the beamo is $1,499 compared to one of its closest competitors at $2,495. I found the camera to be really helpful in ensuring my design would come out perfectly as planned. You can also use the camera to capture your hand sketches and turn them into digital files and then engravings.

Built into the inner working of beamo is a water cooling system that ensures the unit doesn’t overheat and damage the internal components. Very helpful to avoid a meltdown and a feature that not all laser engravers can claim. Another nice feature is the LCD touchscreen on the unit itself. With the touchscreen, you can perform many functions, including changing settings, browsing previous designs, and starting up the cutting/engraving functions. It looks like there’s a future feature that will allow you to browse the web to download and print using shared designs, but this feature didn’t appear to be working during testing.

The beamo features a pretty decent exhaust fan that helps draw smoke and exhaust from the laser cutting and engraving process away from the project and outside your work area using the included extendable plastic duct. The exhaust fan creates a pretty good vacuum inside the unit in conjunction with the acrylic cover that you can feel when you try opening the cover after a job is complete. While we did have some minor smoke smells in the house while testing, the exhaust fan and duct did a good job removing the majority of the smoke when the duct was routed out the window.

In testing, the Flux beamo was a lot of fun and surprisingly easy to use, assuming the software behaves. I ran into some quirks with Beam Studio on macOS; it will sometimes reset itself or require me to restart the app manually. When selecting the sample beamo image during testing, the language of the application would switch to an Asian language I couldn’t read and would only switch back once I restarted the app. While the application is fairly simple and intuitive, I found there to be some quirks that I had to work through. However, I’m sure they’ll get ironed out over time.

I have to say that I’m really impressed with Flux’s latest laser engraver. The beamo is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than many of its competitors while still performing admirably. While the laser is slightly less powerful than some of its competitors, you only really miss out on the ability to cut through thicker materials or engrave harder surfaces. Beamo is great for the majority of DIY projects, including engraving wood, acrylic, leather, glass, and more.
