Windlass Christus Imperat Rapier Showcase | Kult of Athena

This rapier is heavily inspired by an original kept within the Royal Armouries. (But not to be confused with the #windlass / Royal Armouries collection.) It has a blade of well-tempered high carbon steel. Christus Imperat (Christ Commands) is etched into the fuller on both sides. The complex and vibrantly spiralled guard of this rapier is made of metal with an antiqued steel finish.

Historically the rapier is used not as a Hollywood-portrayed wildly moving blade with elaborate flourishes and manic blade-to-blade clashing with the foe – it is instead a calculated thrusting weapon. Its long blade length keeps the foe at bay and when an opening through his defense appears a swordsman with a rapier can strike at a significant distance with his sword held outwards matched with a forward step.

The black hilt is a classic, simple look, the invokes the simplicity of Ninth House tradition, as well as matching the somewhat understated description from GtN

The more ornamented swept hilt rapier has a thicker, wider blade than what most people think of a rapier which feels very Gideon, and though the hilt is very simple I’m not sure about the ornamentation

This swept basket hilt rapier is pretty standard fair for a 17th century armory, as well as it being stamped with CHRISTUS IMPERAT, which means Christ Compels or God Commands. That alone feels very fitting for the Ninth if not exact.

What is Christ the King if you ask? Christ the King is one of the most important titles of Jesus. Even though Jesus Christ was not a king in the earthly sense, He is the divine King of the Universe, who unites all of creation with the Father.

As St. Paul tells us in his first letter to the Corinthians (15:25-28): "For Christ must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For God has put all things in subjection under his feet… When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to Him who put all things under him, that God may be all in all."
