While A. Kovacevic's backhands frequently let him down in the first set, C. Eubanks' more spinned shots (including some from his backhand side as well) helped him to adapt to the rhythm as the rallies became slightly more extended in the second set. The former had several forehand winners midway, but his slight chances came from C. Eubanks' unforced errors, which might have implied that C. Eubanks controlled most of the flow, including the earlier mini-break in the second-set tie-break that got blown due to a double fault. As a result, C. Eubanks' sole break of serve came at the first set after outhitting A. Kovacevic, thus his 50% break point conversion rate.

Somehow, both players had distinct service game strengths throughout this match. Even though C. Eubanks scored 16 aces than A. Kovacevic's 11, he was 8% behind the latter when it came to the first serve percentage, mainly due to his inability to land some of them in the second set. However, even if both players double-faulted thrice, C. Eubanks had the slight edge with 62% second serve percentage, 6% more than A. Kovacevic, who rushed his final shots in some occasions.

In the second round, C. Eubanks will face the winner between fourth seed Taro Daniel and qualifier Alexis Galarneau, who will take the court later today (local time). This could either be an intriguing match or a one-way traffic depending on how the latter handled the former's rhythm, but a slightly more aggressive appearance could make a difference in this match. Should be interesting to see how their groundstrokes fare as well!
