Habitual Sin

Habitual sin is a pattern of disobedience against God. It's knowingly committing the same sins, but unable to resist the temptation. At first, it seems harmless but then it escalates to the point where it spirals beyond control. The devil has a way of repackaging things to appear nicer than they are. If he presented the sin to us for what it was, we would be disgusted by the mere thought of it. Instead, he finds ways to spruce it up and then pitches it to us as harmless. "It's only a song, just a kiss, there's no harm in it." One of the biggest lies that the devil feeds us is that he lets us believe that we're in control of the sin. He'll tell you that you can stop anytime, but it's not until we're trapped that we realize the magnitude of that lie. Remember, we can't serve two masters. Once we allow the devil access, he becomes lord over our lives & we're under his authority.  In this state, we've removed our pure robes and put on stained, tattered garments, making nonsense of the sacrifice that Christ paid for our eternity all in exchange for momentary perverseness. Is it worth it? There is no such thing as harmless sin! Sin only brings momentary pleasure and long lasting shame. It's this shame that prevents us from feeling worthy enough to approach our Father.  The ”harmless“ sin ends up wreaking havoc on our spiritual lives. The devil can only rule over us if we bid him welcome. By entertaining certain thoughts, conversations and filling ourselves with unedifying things, we are bidding the enemy welcome into our hearts. The bible tells us that everything we do must be for the glory of God. It's imperative that we remember this the next time our mouse hovers over the pornographic ad or our fingers subconsciously type in the all too familiar artist into the browser. Remember this the next time we're in the midst of lewd conversation or debating that swig of vodka. How is this act glorifying God? The battle begins in the mind. God has told us countless times to guard our hearts and be mindful of what we feed our spirits. Don't grieve the Holy Spirit that lies within you! I urge us to be careful of the thoughts we entertain and the counsels we give heed to.

Clarity

This word has been popping up everywhere I turn. From someone using the word in a conversation on Skype to hearing it in a song and then in a book, and on and on it goes. I decided to look it up in the dictionary. The definitions given are self-explanatory and ones that I expected to be there. But there is one that caught me off guard. 

"the quality of transparency or purity"

It, of course, is referring to things like water or diamonds, but my mind just started to take it in another direction.

I've been asking God for clarity in some situations. Mainly one, but man does it encompass a lot of reeaaally important things. We cannot choose when God gives us clarity on situations we encounter in our lives because it is in His perfect timing that we'll be enlightened, BUT could we have some influence? What is the quality of my purity? Yes every one sins, every single freaking day, but how hard are we trying to look like the pure, sinless being that is Jesus? What is the quality of our purity?

Transparency. Now that is a good word. Our hearts are so clouded. Yet. Yet, to God they are so transparent. He sees right through our false motives. That embarrassingly sinful thing that you can't get away from and hide from everyone? Yeaaaa He sees that. He sees our passions, our loves. He feels that emotion that we try to stifle or control. He sees it all. Bad and good. That should be the most comforting thing we've ever heard. We do not have to pretend. We can just be. And know that he accepts us just as we are. 

I want the quality of my transparency to be off the charts. I want to embrace my Jesus and his all-knowingness and let it fuel a life of intimacy with him, resulting in a purity than only He can give. That's clarity enough, until He so chooses to bring the rest into focus.

We are never more displaying the image of God than when we are operating within relationships that would match His character. Likewise, our fallen state from that glory is never more evident than when it is displayed through the brokenness of our relationships.
