Just thinking abt the way blackness is demonized. Thinking about #BlackIsKing. Thinking about folk that have never studied anything but the Bible and YouTube videos calling a thing they have no context for demonic. Knowing factually you don’t know what you’re talking abt because it’s often labeled #Voodoo when it is very decidedly NOT Voodoo and very contrary to the actual practices of Voodoo/Vodou. Thinking about how how excellence is often credited to the Illuminati. Thinking about the phrase I coined when I realized my own CDF, #ChristianDemonicFilter, and how it literally is the central gaze through which we judge all things whether we know what we’re talking abt or not. Thinking about the lack of co text used when interpreting sacred text. Thinking abt the first time I heard my nephews speak out loud the idea of a white God and a white Jesus... their surprise slight disbelief when I read their skin and hair too similar for Jesus to have been anything but Black. Thinking about the critique of a religion that has been displaced from Africa and taught from the perspective of folk that weren’t mentioned anywhere from Genesis to Revelations as being in authority. Thinking about the ways we surrender God as Emmanuel (God with us) for God as the sky (White bearded throated God with no intimate relationship to us). I am just thinking that maybe if we believed that Salvation was complete we could find God in ourselves and love her... love her fiercely! #SundaySermon & Today’s Patreon #BlackHistoryMonth content focuses on the #ChristianDemonicFilter ™️ . . . I grew up with the language of “Thats demonic” for any and everything that wasn’t expressly spelled out in the #Bible and simultaneously having deep Southern Black daily customs that were very #SouthernBlack and #African. Like having to be the one to dispose of my hair from the comb or the brush because reasons 👀 it the specific ritual that followed having your foot swept by a broom 👀 it the inability to have any appliance turned on when it was storming because #Oya said, I mean Grandma said be still God is doing His business - because reasons 👀. When I started my academic career I began writing about this and coined it the Christian Demonic Filter™️ to catchall the rituals we participated in that made us uncomfortable that we weren’t able to acknowledge was really antiblackness deeply disguised as #Christian Supremacy. 🥴😬👩🏾‍💻👀 In this tweet I share every year since the first time @jadetperry my favorite #Churchy #Mystic posted it... This conversation about #DecolonizingAncestors feels very important to me over the last several years because when my grandmother transitioned the only way for me to continue in relationship with her was to know she was 1. Not dead. 2. Living again. 3. In deep relationship with the spirit on my behalf. 💙 That feels very 👀 from a Christian context because the #ChristianDemonicFilter won’t allow for this kind of language but “Angels” working on our behalf feels acceptable. Because the demonizing of ancestors takes ya out of right relationship with the spirit. The #OldTestament spends whole entire books talking about who begat who begat who. It was particularly important for them to know where they came from. Their lineage meant something. More than just pride. Christ was in the bloodline. For my ancestors... I was coming in their bloodline. I was prophesied and here I am. It matters where I came from and the idea that they are no more is not conscionable. 🙏🏾 So here I am in this Carolina water talking abt ancestors with other black women who are talking abt healing inside sacred spaces that we construct on our own... and it feels like I need to be more public in modeling what Ancestor reverence looks like because we do all kind of craziness to get Gods attention and won’t just start with a quick scan of calling out the names of those closed to us in the eternal, “Emma Jane, Bernice Gulley, Raven Johnson, Lydia Goode, #ErmiasAsghedom... and so many more. I have a school. It’s a whole thing. I don’t think I talk abt it enough but it’s dope. It’s centering black womens intellectual authority by putting them in the teacher/preacher/professor position. #BlackWomen and #BlackFemmes in charge is the best learning you will ever have. Period. 💜 I announced my school the day after #Beychella. Because #Beyonce Magic make you wanna fly. I have been dreaming it for years but I was in Houston, Texas in the first stop of the #BlackGirlMixtape tour and couldn’t sleep after seeing some of the clips of the first night of Beyonce at #Coachella and decided it was time. And how appropriate because my Houston lecture was on #BlackGods (and the #ChristianDemonicFilter ™️) And the second class that I launched at #BGMInstitute is “Beyonce & African Spirit Justice” (a Course I taught for my first teaching fellowship in grad school). We are using #Lemonade visuals to consider the intentional use of spirit, religion, conjure for justice. Here's a brief introduction to chakras. Chakras are #energychannels that flow through your body. They're like blood vessels but for #electricity/energy instead of blood. The same way blood vessels allow blood to move from one place in your body to another, chakras allow energy to move through your body from one place to another. (Specifically chakras are the energy centers that energy moves FROM & through). So - in the #science that makes #acupuncture a powerful #healing agent - balancing chakras with intentional effort is both #spiritually and #physically powerful. You know how blocked blood in your body is dangerous? Blocked #electricity in your body is dangerous as well. So, that's a brief understanding of chakras. Here's why believers have to stop being so afraid of everything that's not spelled out in the #Bible: The bible doesn't break down #mathematics (for example). There is no 1 #Neter 2:3 or a #BookOfKemet verse 7, chapter 8 to explain the actual #theorems that make all numbers make sense. Yet - we know 1+1=2. Some things you have to dig deeper with. I call this the #ChristianDemonicFilter (c) that keeps you from being able to accept certain things that are foreign to you. However, God is the God of wonder beyond our galaxy. If you really think every piece of the #MostHigh's wisdom is written down in a single book - you're sadly misinformed. The prophet #Jeremiah talks about asking God for deeper wisdom. This is the proof that some of the #mysteries (aint no #mystery) will be revealed when we ask. So... chakras are science. They neither negate nor disprove God. A lot of the grief that black people in #America as a result of slavery - descendants of enslaved people and other #Free black people, comes from the fact that our reach is in the wrong direction because it proper reach has been socialized out of us. If you believe that God is in the sky you will never look for God who is singing and dancing all around you, even while you are unaware (Zeph 3:17). So we can’t believe in #Magic because our #ChristianDemonicFilter ™️ won’t let us. Anything black is inherently bad so even seeing ourselves as I’m #Relationship to #holiness or #majestic is impossible because black is not glorious. . . . I plan to #believe in my magic in 2019. To know that I don’t have to appeal to some Hopeful hope that I have that folk hear abt black pain and black trauma and that will maybe - possibly - perhaps cause them to see my humanity and love and support me and see me and listen to me and protect me and and and me. How abt I just reach for my magic and know that everything is already alright. Believe that I don’t have to prove my humanity by bleeding out before y’all to say... “Can you see me now?
