I was reading the Word today on Psalms 37, and first part of verse 7 says, be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.
Exodus 14:13 says, ‭the Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
And also Psalms 46:10 says again, be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
But me, I do anything but be still. I fret. And I worry.
When the mountains and hills in front of me don't fall away, when the valley begins to look a little bit too deep, or when the raging storms seem to have an eternity to them, I worry.
Like the parable of the sower, I let the thorns of worry choke up my faith.
I want to see things moving. To see ME in control.
I forget the greatest thing I can do is have faith. Being still before the Lord and taking delight in Him.
Because, can any one of us by worrying add a single hour to our lives?
So, if you're sometimes like me, remind your heart to be still.
Remind yourself that whatever you lack that makes you worry, God already knows it.
The birds of the air do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Hold on to your faith, that is more precious than gold, and know that He is God.
He is Jireh. He is El-Roi.

How to Build Strong Character Paul, the author of the letter to the Church in Rome, frequently encouraged the believers in Rome amidst the persecution and adversity they were experiencing. The first half of Paul’s letter corrects some of their thinking, while the second half is focused on their character and actions. In Romans 12, Paul is encouraging the believers to let love be the primary motivation for everything they do. When love is the foundation of who they are, then God can renew and transform every area of life. When they allow God to transform their character, that's when they're able to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Christians have a unique hope in Jesus–we know that Jesus is victorious over evil and will one day return to make everything right. This means we can have hope in the midst of suffering or difficult times. Paul knew that affliction produces steadfast character within us. When we choose to endure through suffering, Jesus forms strength and confidence within us that we couldn’t attain otherwise. But perseverance through affliction also requires constant communication with the One who transforms us through His love. Prayer is a vital part of this. It is the primary way we communicate with God, and it’s also part of how the Holy Spirit strengthens us for following Jesus. These three things create within us a stronger character in life. They mold us into the image of Jesus who was joyful in hope, patient in suffering, and faithful in prayer. So today, take some time to think of a few ways that you can become more like Jesus in these areas.

So there are bibles without chapter numbers verse numbers and headings but I wish I'd know how to find one just without headings (or at least one that has the headings like non disruptively at the top of the page or something)
I don't like the headings. Chapter and verse numbers are useful for reference and they can be formatted so they're not really in the way that much. Headings, I find, do get in the way of my reading and I feel like pretty often a section that should clearly be one section still has headings going through it.
(I mean this is kind of a first world problem and I am glad to have bible translations into the common language but I feel like when people can make "no verse numbers no chapter numbers" bibles they can do this)

Do you sometimes feel God’s voice tell you not to do something, and then you go do it for the 5 billionth time? And then afterwards, you feel awful and feel as though you failed God and yourself, again.
And yes, this whole situation is me. I feel awful and I don’t know what to do to make me feel whole again with God.
thanks in advance! :’)
Oh anon. I most certainly can relate to this and I think all Christians can. Psalm 51, I find, eloquently expresses those feelings. (Seriously, I encourage you to read it.) I'm going to share some passages in Scripture to let the Word of God speak to you instead of what "Mimi says."
*****
Isaiah 53:4‭-‬6 ESV
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Ephesians 2:1‭-‬10 ESV
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Romans 5:6‭-‬11 ESV
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
*****
I encourage you to think about these passages, reread them, learn what the words mean if any are unfamiliar to you, and meditate on them. And keep asking the Lord to help you through this.
Also, try your best to find a good local church if you already don't go to one. God wants us to be in community with other believers to teach and encourage each other about things like this. And (like what I usually say) I also want to encourage you to study the Bible for yourself to understand what it says.
I'm praying for you!

What’s the Point? There once lived a king whose experience exploring and grappling with life’s perplexities was recorded in the book of Ecclesiastes. What’s interesting is that this king—likely King Solomon—reigned in Israel during some of the best years in its history. From the world’s standards, he had more power, prestige, and wealth than any other person before him. Yet, still, he summarized his luxuries with one depressing word: Meaningless! “Everything is meaningless!” (Ecclesiastes 1:2) “Everything is wearisome beyond description.” (Ecclesiastes 1:8) “Nothing under the sun is truly new.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) “I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:14) Though written thousands of years ago, this bleak analysis still resonates with our own restless yearning for more. We want more than meaningless stuff. We want more than surface-level connections and ambitions. We want more than a seemingly thriving, yet secretly unsatisfied life. We want more—but what we want doesn’t typically satisfy us. Like the author of Ecclesiastes, we might find ourselves asking: “What is the point of life?” By the end of the book, “the Teacher” has tried to find meaning in everything under the sun, and he concludes his reflections with these powerful words
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV We can chase after everything this world has to offer and it might bring temporary pleasure. But in the end, pursuing those things apart from God will always leave us empty. The great news is, there’s a God in heaven who created and loves us, and He understands what we really need. He knows that life is best when we follow His design for life. He is worthy of our awe, our honor, and our worship. So, fear God and keep His commandments. Love Him with everything in you and love your neighbor as yourself. That is the point. Only then will life no longer be meaningless.
