CBC video: Stolen Children | Residential School Survivors Speak Out
Since their first arrival in the “new world” of North America, a number of religious entities began the project of converting Indigenous Peoples to Christianity. This undertaking grew in structure and purpose, especially between 1831 and 1969, when the governing officials of early Canada joined with Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, United, and Presbyterian churches to create and operate the residential school system. The last federally-run residential school, Gordon Indian residential School in Saskatchewan, closed in 1996. One common objective defined this period: the aggressive assimilation of Aboriginal peoples.

"What doth it avail thee to delay thy confession for a long time, or to put off the Holy communion?
Purge thyself with speed, spit out the venom presently, make haste to take this remedy, and thou shalt find it to be better for thee than if thou hadst deferred it for a long time.
If thou deferrest it today, for this cause, perhaps tomorrow a greater will occur and so thou mayest be hindered a long time from Communion, and become more unfit.
With all possible speed shake off this heaviness and sloth, for it is to no purpose to continue long in uneasiness, to pass a long time in trouble, and for these daily impediments to withdraw thyself from these divine mysteries.
Yea, it is very hurtful to delay the Communion long; for this usually causeth a great lukewarmness and numbness."

Poll Time!
1. Anonymous: meaning behind a screen or with backs turned.
2. Face-to-face: whether that’s in the booth or in another location.
3. I haven’t been to Confession. This is for people raised Catholic that have gone either not at all or only once to receive First Communion.
4. No preference. You don’t have a preference for confession.
5. I am not Catholic. You’ve never been to confession and likely never will.

Ik the good omens fandom has different takes on God as a character, but I like the idea that she DOES have an ineffable plan, and Heaven is doing their absolute worst job carrying it out.
Most angels never talk to God, and they're usually selfish, they don't do the right thing (only what they're told), and it's even possible they're working under a corrupt power (like the Metatron). I like that theory because Metatron IS the barrier between God and the angels. He could easily lie to them and change plans, and we the audience know that "friendly old man metatron" swindling Aziraphale is not what he seems.
But from the beginning, we see inconsistency. Crowley falls from heaven after asking questions/hanging out with the wrong group while Aziraphale is allowed to lie about the flaming sword and change Heaven's plans. God can see how much he cares about humans and the earth by his actions (Crowley being the same), which makes me think that him getting away with it is intentional, not inconsistent or neglectful. ESPECIALLY if Aziraphale and Crowley run heaven and hell respectively in season 3. They have the power to change things, just like they stopped the world from ending the first time. I think Crowley and Aziraphale ARE the ineffable plan.
Their love could bridge the gap between opposing forces in a way that it couldn't if they were both angels. After all, both heaven and hell think they're doing the better thing while they're both not. Crowley and Aziraphale are the best of both sides.
If bringing them together was God's plan, it'd be a powerful story for queer Christians!! A lot of us have been hurt by the church, but we hold on to God's love, which doesn't fail us. We stay in a religion with a history of fighting queerness not because we're all brainwashed, but because we wholeheartedly believe in a God that loves us. Sometimes I see good omens' heaven as an analogy for toxic churches, and I'd love nothing more than for Aziraphale to realize heaven is working against God. Not to mention God using a gay couple to save the world/save heaven from corruption?? I'd kill for that storyline
Secondly, Aziraphale's devotion wouldn't have been for nothing. If God was awful the whole time, it defeats the times he and Crowley reached out, and the moment in the GOs1 finale where Crowley says, "what if you're going AGAINST God's ineffable plan?" to Gabriel and Beelzebub. (It'd almost defeat the purpose of her being the quirky narrator following their story, too.)
Even Crowley, never fooled by "heaven is all good" calls for God in his time of need ("God listening? Show me an ineffable plan.") (Possibly when he reaches to the sky in order to stop time) (Calling for God before Satan in the burning bookshop) (Looking up and muttering "God" after realizing Aziraphale is going to leave him in s2)
Lastly, after the trauma that both Crowley and Aziraphale went through, with Crowley falling and Aziraphale coming to terms with heaven's corruption (and both being mistreated by their side) it'd be nice to have been for a reason. They have every right to grieve and be angry for all that they went through, and the centuries that they weren't supposed to love each other, but I believe the series will end on a positive, sweet note, like the rainbow after a storm.
Like Job, they're losing almost everything (their relationship as it was, the bookshop, and the life they carved out), but they have each other. I think they'll lose everything to save EVERYONE, and in the end, the reward will top the pain. No holding back, no forces hunting them down, just them together after a PAINFULLY long time with everything they'd wanted.
We know that God doesn't get around to answering many questions, but her speech to Job was in part to say "trust me"
She laid the foundations of the earth. She made every living thing. Job couldn't see past the destruction of his life, but she has a plan. Job is a valuable human being, but he doesn't have the power and knowledge of God. God will share her plan when he can make a whale. Otherwise, he can trust that "Most things are fine in the end"
*Aziraphale voice* That's ineffable!

Sin?
Tumblr media
(For someone who said I never talk about sin)
What is sin?
When we think about sin, usually the first ideas that come to mind are things like the Ten Commandments, the seven deadly sins (lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride), and other obvious examples.
The thing is, sin isn’t limited to those great scarlet sins of commission.
Because sin isn’t about any specific list of “thou shalt nots.” Sin is really about the effect that something has on us.
I’m talking about what sin does. And what sin does is separate you and me from the One who loves us best. Sin gets between us and God. That is what makes something a sin.
The lists of “thou shalt nots” are part of that.
The Ten Commandments, pride, envy, all those things? Those are just universal problems that plague every single one of us.
The thing to know is that sin doesn’t stop with a list of “thou shalt nots.”
The truth about sin is much more subtle, and much more dangerous.
Because anything that can do the job for us, anything that is capable of getting between us and God? That is a sin, for us.
That’s why anger can be a sin. Because it can get between us and God.
That’s why resentment can be a sin. Because it can get between us and God.
That’s why fear can be a sin. Because it can get between us and God.
That’s why bitterness can be a sin. Because it can get between us and God.
That is how you and I have to look at it.
Because anything that is capable of separating you from God? That, for you, is a sin.
That’s true, no matter how small or harmless it may look.
It’s also true, even if it’s not sin for someone else.
For me? There’s a reason why I don’t gamble.
For most of us, gambling is innocent entertainment. Good for you. Thank you for supporting our bingo night.
But for me? It wouldn’t take long for gambling to get out of hand. It wouldn’t take long for gambling to come between me and God. That’s why gambling is a sin for me. So I avoid it.
That is the truth of sin.
Because anything that is capable of separating you from God? That, for you, is a sin.
If you’re honest, you know what those things are for you. So does God.
God knows everything about you, including how those things that separate you from Him mess with you. How they leave you feeling stuck or anxious. How they leave you fearful or angry. How they leave you empty.
And that is what Reconciliation – confessing our sins – is about. Not because God wants to beat you and me up about our sins.
But because that’s not how God wants you to live. God did not make you to live feeling stuck or anxious, fearful or angry. God did not make you to live empty.
God made you to live joyfully, overflowing in His love and abundance.
The first step to getting there? Let go of the things that are coming between you and God. Let go of your sins.
Push them away from you. By name, hand them over to the God who loves you.
In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, priests are in persona Christi, holy instruments of God’s grace and mercy waiting to be poured out just for you.
Not to blame or shame, but to absolve you and to rejoice with you.
Because that is the secret of Reconciliation. One of the greatest joys on this side of eternity is the feeling in your heart after a good confession.
This Lent, make time for you, for your spiritual health. Take a moment to let go of all of the things that are coming between you and God. Hand over all of your sins. Hold nothing back.
Because the God who loves you too much to let anything come between you and Him, delights in mercy and is waiting with open arms to forgive you.

365 Promises of God - Day 282 - There is Neither Greek nor Jew, Slave nor Free
Read: Colossians 3:1-11
Ever had to do one of those ‘compare and contrast’ papers in English? Well, I’ve loved to quote a verse very similar to the one for today, found in Paul’s letter to the Galatians:
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Gal 3:28 NKJV)
I’ve liked the verse in Galatians, and never really noticed the differences with the verse found here in Colossians before. But let’s look at them now.
The verse in Colossians doesn’t mention male and female. It changes the order from Jew nor Greek to ‘Greek nor Jew’. He added ‘circumcision nor uncircumcision’. He adds Barbarian and Scythian. And instead of identifying all as one (promoting unity) it goes to a different focal point that Christ is ALL, and IN ALL. Pointing to sufficiency and identification. So, why are these differences THERE, and are they important? Well, the short answer is, of course they are.
Galatians was written early in Paul’s ministry, around AD 47, and was directed more toward the Jews in Galatia. Therefore, they were addressed first. Although Judaism treated women better than other faiths, they considered women little more than property. Thus, they needed to be instructed that Christ eliminates the gender gap, for all must come empty to be filled. And the Jews needed to be reminded that there was unity with the Gentiles in Christ.
Colossians was written from prison in Rome around AD 62, and was addressed primarily to the Greeks there, so they are named first. The Greeks had a better view of the equality of gender. There had arisen between the letters a teaching that the Greeks would need to keep the Law, at least to being circumcised, to enter heaven. And Paul had a hard time squashing that lie. The Barbarians were foreigners to Colossi, and the Greeks might have treated them with distrust. The Scythians were a conquered race from the East, whose dynasty was long over, and they doubtless were treated with contempt. The promise Paul was communicating in this truth was that all of those barriers are GONE!
We aren’t to treat others with distrust or contempt. Whether an employer or employee, a white collar or blue collar, whether that church member has tattoos or piercings or wears a suit and tie, we should love each other because Christ is IN ALL of us, and He must BE all TO us. Dear Christian, remember that these are your family.
Prayer:
Father God, may I love your children the same, today. Amen

I'll Be Back
Tumblr media
Another championship under his belt, and Christian couldn't be happier and prouder. It had taken him a lot to get to where he was, almost eight years to feel the glory once again, yet he still felt a kind of dissatisfaction, as if something wouldn't let him be completely happy... perhaps because it had been too easy? Or because there were no rivals?
The views from his hotel room were pleasant. He had just returned from celebrating with the team. Even though some rivals were now emerging, it didn't feel the same... there was no pressure, just jokes... laughter... he feared becoming complacent.
His phone rang, and when he looked at the screen, his expression changed. He had probably just summoned the missing piece... a name that rarely appeared on his phone... well, not since 2021... it lit up on his screen, "Toto."
"Well, what a surprise," he said with his usual sarcasm, trying to hide his surprise.
"I thought it was appropriate to congratulate you since I wasn't there," Toto said from the other end.
"It would seem like it was on purpose... you could have done that operation before Singapore," Christian said.
"Maybe... although the fall wasn't intentional," Toto joked.
"You didn't want to see me win," Christian taunted.
"That's the thing, I never want to see you win, just like you never wanted me to win for years," Toto said, always honest.
"Still, I always congratulated you," Christian said indignantly. "I congratulated you admiringly..."
"I am congratulating you... that's why I called... I just don't fake joy and 'admiration,'" Toto said, throwing a dart.
"So why the call?" Christian asked.
"Cordiality, Christian... politics... have you forgotten that at the top?" Toto teased.
"You could have done it in front of the media then," Christian said bitterly.
"Why bother if there's no relationship... that's what you said," Toto retorted.
"What?... I didn't say..." Then he remembered. "But that was almost two years ago... no one remembers that..."
"I haven't forgotten it.... time may pass, but your words won't be erased," Toto said, and they fell silent for a while; the conversation had suddenly become too deep.
"So it bothers you... is that why you've kept your distance?... is that..." Christian didn't finish his sentence because Toto interrupted.
"Why would I come looking for you if you don't want to engage with me? If it's just about the track, then it'll stay on the track... I don't need to get close... although you have Zack or Fred as rivals now, you can joke with them all you want; their presence doesn't bother you," Toto said, sounding hurt.
"Rivals have emerged, but..."...'they are not you' He was going to say, but the words died in his throat.
"But?" Toto asked, and then there was another silence, only a faint breath could be heard... it could have been many minutes or just half a minute; Christian didn't know.
"It's not the same," he broke the silence.
"Of course not, it's never the same, it depends on where you stand in the championship too, and your confidence..." Toto said, being practical, ignoring feelings, talking about the job.
"No... I mean... it's like a missing piece... something..." Christian said, half-embarrassed, trying to hide the obvious.
"It's different when it's not you," Toto finally said, and Christian didn't say anything; he was in shock. "It's not the same feeling the pressure on Mercedes knowing that Mercedes is fighting... knowing that you're there, putting pressure... it's different fighting against the car itself... against yourself."
Christian sighed... he didn't expect to hear these words from Toto. "It doesn't feel the same if there's no pressure... if someone isn't there, being a thorn in your side."
"Yeah, when there's no competition... you don't really experience the sport," Toto said.
"Will you come back?" Christian asked without thinking.
"Have you grown tired of playing alone?" Toto teased.
"Answer me," Christian ignored the taunts.
"If the car performs well in next year's test, then yes," Toto said, and it wasn't a convincing answer for Christian.
"You don't sound determined," he said.
"It happens to anyone after two years," Toto said; there was a brief silence, and Christian responded.
"It doesn't happen to Toto Wolff... at least not the one I know," Christian said.
"People change..." Toto began with the typical speech.
"Don't lie... will you come back? Yes or no?" Christian interrupted. Toto let out a sigh... but Christian knew he was smiling.
"Look, I still owe that eighth title to Lewis, and no matter what it takes... I'll be a thorn in your side again if necessary," Toto said with a smile, and Christian looked at the city with a glimmer of hope for that rivalry to return.

"We don’t need to reconcile God to us. God is reconciliation itself. God has never turned his gaze from us. It is we who have turned away from him. God had been waiting for us all along. No, not only waited. . .God has run to meet us with such overwhelming proofs of his love that it ought not possible for us to close our eyes to them.
It is not for us to appease God’s anger. God is not angry with us. Love is not resentful (1 Cor 13:5). It is, rather, God who tries to calm humanity’s anger."
