Alaska & Trish . . . Alaska was rescued by a compassionate 13 year old who overheard a customer talking about turning his newly purchased baby chickens into nuggets. @Regranned from @thehumaneleague - The harsh realities of factory farming. They don’t have a choice. We do. #chooseveg 🌱 TheGreenPlate.com 🐥 📽: @andrewskowron - #regrann #FacndustrialFarming & #IndustrialFarming have proven to be a bust. They're unhealthy and cruel and add to climate change and bio destruction. I haven't been able to continue this path for several reasons. I have too much self respect for my own body & health and I don't just carelessly and wrecklessly stomp on other beings for my own profit. There will be a judgment day.

Low-income vegan guides courtesy of low-income vegans, vegans of color, and vegans outside of the mainland U.S. 'the colour yellow' is a personal friend of mine and a passionate voc advocate for low income vegans.
Remember at the end of the day, being vegan is "trying to limit harm as far as is practicable or possible." We as an empathetic species, do it everyday through actions. Just do your best.
One of my absolute least favourite things about tumblr is how people manipulate the narrative of equality and social justice in order to justify eating animals. People will bring up crop workers as a criticism of veganism, not bothering to find out that their diet requires more crops than ours, or that slaughterhouse workers are working in terrible and dangerous conditions for one of the most exploitative industries in the world. They’ll attack us for eating soy, but are conveniently ignorant of the fact that most soy goes to feed farmed animals, not humans. People will erase poor vegans and especially vegans of colour to justify a narrative where all vegans are rich white people, and never stop to consider how problematic it is to deem believing in animal rights “a white people thing.”
If you’re throwing oppressed and impoverished peoples under the bus to justify the fact that you like to eat steak, then you’re not being “woke” or subversive; you are exploiting their issues for your own ends. It is more than fine to advocate for change and call out issues within social justice movements, including veganism, but these points are seldom made with any nuance, analysis or genuine empathy. The struggles of impoverished farmers are seldom spoken about as anything other than blunt force attacks on veganism; and using them in this way is nothing more than capitalising on other people’s struggles as a smokescreen to disguise your own selfish choices.

hi im trying to vegan but when i eat some foods i look at the label and they always have milk in it. And my mom is refusing to by me fruits and veggies (i only have broccoli and beans) when it costs less than the bacon. what should i do?
Dairy is in EVERYTHING isn’t it. Or at least it feels that way. Ugh. It’s a totally unnecessary ingredient, not to mention it’s the most common food allergy, and the only reason we (at least in the US) use it is because we have an enormous surplus of milk because of government subsidies. But I digress.
Do you own a smart phone? There are some great vegan apps out there, and here is a list of some of them. ChooseVeg is also a fantastic site for people who are brand new to veganism, and they’re one of my faves and they even have a page for how to deal with belligerent family members.
Do you know why your mom won’t buy you fruits and vegetables? Is it just the cost? Most parents are more than willing to buy you healthy foods if they’re produce and on the cheaper side. They do tend to freak out from the word “vegan,” but overall, if you frame it as you wanting to eat healthier they’ll generally be more open to it.
Beans are the best source of protein and iron, so that’s good at least. Lentils are also great, as are frozen vegetables (spinach, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, kale). They last for a long time and are very healthy and cheap. Rice is also a great addition, especially black, red, and purple jasmine rice. Put all of those together and you have a cheap, healthy, complete meal. Maybe she’d be open to buying more of those types of foods?
If you’re a minor without an income of your own, there probably isn’t much you can do besides convince her to buy you more plant-based foods. It’s mostly outside of your control through no fault of your own. I was really lucky in that I went vegan just after I turned 18 and I had a job, so I didn’t have to depend on my mom for food.
But you never know. My mom gave me a hard time when I went vegan, and then she started eating much more plant-based foods afterwards and got a lot healthier. You’ll be surprised at the influence you can have just by following your ethics and morals and being a good example to others.
Sounds like you’re doing your best, anon. We’re at the mercy of our guardians when we’re living under their roof, so don’t beat yourself up about it. You’re doing great. :)
