Tomorrow will be a vote again on HR9495
The House will hold another vote, majority this time on HR9495 this monday. Do not panic. Do organize.
This would most likely make pro-Palestine nonprofits illegal among others. This is time-sensitive as it'll be back on Monday.
Leave messages on your rep's voicemails if they're unavailable, send faxes, and call back on Monday before the vote takes place. Ill ping again monday. If your Rep is one of the Dems that voted "Yes" on this, tell them this is their chance to stop this bill and not give Trump more powers. Tell them you'll vote for them in the next election if they vote "no" on this bill. If your Rep is Republican, tell them that this bill would also affect the Salvation Army as it is nonprofit. If your Rep previously voted "No" on this bill, encourage them to keep their stand and stick to their "No",and thank them for this. CALL TOOLS : ACLU has updated their call tool : https://shorturl.at/5k3PQ FFTF set up one too, albeit it hasnt been up to date yet I think, but putting this just in case http://fftf.link/no9495 Call in number is 319-313-7674
For democrats there is a script you can use
Script you can also use : "I am calling to urge my representative to vote no on H.R. 9495 . This is a dangerous bill would give the Trump administration unilateral power to label any non-profit as terrorist supporting and shut it down without due process. I am calling on my representative to defend civil rights organizations and oppose this bill. Thank you.”
(No idea what you should say for Republican repreosentatives, I am winging it. with my own.)
You can send faxes with this too if you wish https://faxzero.com/

what I wish people would understand about fundraising for gaza is that while everyone is desperate and I would never say not to fundraise for or donate to individual families-- I currently fundraise to support multiple friends' families-- the overwhelming narrative I see on Tumblr that the best and most ethical thing you can do is send money to individuals and there is no option for anything else is so so incredibly damaging and inadvertently lends support to the marginalization and distrust of any remaining communal social infrastructure. the sameer project, which you should donate to, talks about this in a recent video they put out. the situation in gaza is unimaginable and everyone is in need of a huge level of support, and yet this fundraising discourse by well-meaning people in the west that donating money to individuals is the only moral way reproduces societal divides wherein resources are directed to people who speak English, who have relationships with people outside of gaza, and who have internet access while hundreds of thousands are left behind.
there ARE non-ngo locally based grassroots initiatives working to meet those needs however they can, and your small donation goes a lot further with them because they are able to buy food/water/supplies in bulk at a reduced price and reach more people with less money. again I'm not saying people shouldn't fundraise for individuals because these initiatives are so limited and many people cannot access them -- but as an example, the group I fundraise with is currently serving people fleeing north gaza who are starving and have nothing, and when we fundraise enough to do cash aid distribution there's so much need that our partners can only distribute 100-200 per large family. and then I go online and see people who have absolutely no understanding of this context at all exclusively working towards raising tens of thousands for just a few people when evacuations haven't been possible for months. it's good to do whatever you can but please consider how this narrative being reproduced among westerners trying to help that there are no other options has the potential to damage groups working towards equity and wider reach however is still possible

Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?
Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.
And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.

Hello! As a vegan, what's your opinion on Temple Grandin
Dr. Grandlin has made a career out of pedalling the concept that we can somehow clean up the slaughterhouses and make the exploitation and slaughter of sentient beings for profit an ethical act. I am fundamentally opposed to this as a concept, you can read more about my views on that in my welfarism tag.

It’s not over. It’s not fucking over. Until they steal the breath from our lungs and the last of us has given up or given in, nothing is finished.
Today’s to-do list:
1) Take care of yourself.
2) Take care of each other.
3) Start planning.

Nearly 14,000 mail ballots in Nevada have signature issues
Officials urge residents to use online tool to check if ballot was accepted
The total number of ballots — 13,906 — needing curing include 6,383 from registered nonpartisan or other voters, 4,026 from Democrats and 3,497 from Republicans.
The deadline for voters to cure their ballots is 5 p.m. Nov. 12, officials said. Ballots can be cured here.
The main issue they're having with young voters is that Nevada allows for voter registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the "signatures" are digital (the licensee types it into a form), so their hand-written signatures on their ballots don't match the KEYSTROKES that serve as signatures on their license.
It would be hilarious if it weren't so fucking infuriating.
