Choices and Consequences

This will be a small rotation that will start off by following seven teenagers and their families. May add families to other worlds slowly as they grow up.

Past stories are set but I use a lot of mods that help sims make interesting choices and I write their stories around that.

Warning: My stories and gameplay can have some violence, alcohol, drugs and hints of NSFW for extreme or more adult scenes I will put them undercut or on a different site with a link in the post.  It will have descriptions like spicy or tw blood or tw violence.  I will try to have warnings for the posts that can need them.

Families

Sage and his son Kolton Hawk

Family Bio:

Kolton was just a child when his mother passed away from a car accident. Sage and Kolton were doing great until Kolton entered Junior High and started to rebel. Sage decided to move to his families old ranch in Chestnut Ridge for a new start for them.

Nodin & Dyani Denton

Their twins: son Calian & daughter Tayen

Family Bio:

The Denton's have always been seen as one of the families that has everything together. When Calian just became a preteen he collapsed during track and was diagnosed with a fatal heart condition. Dyani took her son to live in Windenburg to see the best doctors where it took one year to get an transplant. After a year they have returned home. Dyani and Nodin are trying to get the spark back in their relationship after being apart for two years. Calian just doesn't want to be treated like he can break at any moment by his twin sister and others at the school.

Todd & Sheri Harp

Family Bio:

Life has been pretty easy for the Harp family. The only thing that goes wrong every now and again is being late with a nector order.

Connor & Jon McHugh

Their sons Philip and Chance

All the McHugh's are just learning how to cope with a toddler running around in their later years.

Family Bio:

Melody is just trying to adjust to a new town and all the town folks. She loves horses so she wants to start a shelter for them.

Family Bio:

Jud and Odina grew up in Chestnut Ridge they are glad to share their experience with their children. Logan moved away for collage but moved back after he got married to Ellie. Ellie's parents are traveling right now for some reason her mother refuses to explain. So she took her bother in for his last year of high school.

Dylan Parr and her daughter Jena

Family Bio:

Dylan was rebellious while she was in collage and ended up a single mother. She loves Jena with all her heart and her parents have been very supportive.

Cole Roberts

Family Bio:

Cole bought a ranch in Chestnut Ridge with the idea of starting over. He has some bad habits that he isn’t willing to quit and doesn't do relationships very well.

“Is this a dream, or a nightmare or am I really dead.

Am I never again to wake up in my bed?”

“I tried to protect you,” it said in melodious voice. 

“You played with fire. You made your choice.”

“I was wrong and I’m sorry, give me one more attempt!”

“I love you my dear, but from rules you are not exempt.”

“Please go away,” I whisper and the angel leaves me to cry

i'm tired of feeling responsible for other people's feelings, as if my every words and actions are nothing but a way of hurting them. i feel as if all of my choices always lead to pain. that is the reason why i want to self-isolate so much, if i'm not in touch with anyone, then nobody'll get hurt.

Obviously, there would also have to be a storyline you can unlock where you can become a member of the Court of Owls. Or even another vigilante, working with Batman or Red Hood 👁️

Ooooo, how about during the time that Red Hood first debuts… possible Titans Tower storyline depending on which path you go down!

Imagining a point and click game focused on Gotham ambience and atmospheric music, having you navigate life as either a Gothamite or someone who recently moved there, with the option to get in contact with the bats, become one of the rogue’s goons, or even join Red Hood’s gang and work your way to the top 👁️

Each choice you make influences the story, and by then end of it you could be a rogue worse than the Joker, or the catalyst that brought the batfam back together 👀

So I binge read Dungeon Meshi and I have to say I really love this moment. I hate in fiction when characters get possessed or hurt or have like 99.9% of their life stolen, and they just get better after the immediate problem is solved.

Marcille has been worrying over her hair since the start of the story and it's been plot relevant multiple times. She cared about her hair and the styling alot, and now she can't even remember how she styled it. She can't remember how she did it even if she wanted too. It seems like a light loss at first but her hair was important to her and from what we know of how having a desire eaten works she can't even remember why she cared.

When Chilchuck does her Hair she doesn't care how it looks, just that it's out of the way. She can't even recognize that it's childish, somthing she would have noticed immediately before. She goes straight to cutting it, somthing she only did when Senshi was at risk or dying. Not only that but before she only cut a bit, here she just goes to chopping it all off immediately.

Basically I love that there are consequences that will effect these people for their entire lives. I love Laios being a little hungry forever. I love Falin having weird feathery bits. I love Marcille losing a part of herself. Because when you risk it all and make hard or bad choices... it should matter.

This is all so true, and it's what made me dislike Bella a lot. I don't really care about her and don't like her as a person. Okay, I can accept that. I don't need to like her. But her actions caused others grief\trouble. There isn't sacrifice, there isn't true suffering in her life because she chose it, and it's mostly others that suffer any consequences of it.

Like both of you said, she made those choices, even if there was some downfall from it. Yet was able to move on quickly and be happy.

Even her depression felt like a choice, because she didn't just slip into it, she refused any help and chose to spend her 4 months like that, it felt more anger and not wanting to accept the situation. She at that point could have chosen to move on, to build up genuine friendships, to distract herself.

Depression can be awful, truly. But her's felt like a tantrum to me. Even when she goes outside again, it's to avoid therapy, it's to avoid moving on, she doesn't actually care about the people around her. She's still very absorbed about herself. She cared about Jacob, but even that started selfishly, and at the end still was all about her.

That feels painful to me, and it was never addressed. Bella's friendship feels often transactional to me. As long as she gets what she wants. She never gives anything up, she never prioritizes another even once. Her actions and choices made others suffer and no one really calls her out or is allowed to. (Because she and Renesmee could have really turned into horrible ruthless killers, and even that thought didn't stop her, she never thought of the possible victims. This would make her into a villain, but no one really mentions it. And when Jacob is trying to it's treated like he's being discriminative, like HE'S wrong🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤓)

She's the main character, but she isn't a likeable character. (And she's definitely not a good friend like Stephanie Meyer once said)

I.e. Bella not suffering any consequences: what I find even more annoying is that Meyer makes such a big stink about the books being about choice but only BELLA gets any big choices. Every other member of the Cullens was forcefully turned, either entirely against their will (Carlisle, Jasper) or to save their life (Alice, Edward, Emmett, Esme, Rose). Every shifter is forcefully turned due to the vampires; not even Jacob chose it in the end and actively fought against it. Imprinting is forced. Don't get me started on Leah. And even if Nessie wants Jacob in her life, the book heavily implies that she wouldn't have a choice either way. Also, she has to stay with her family because she'll never look old enough, isn't as invulnerable, etc. Literally only Bella has any choice over life-changing decisions (even Edward claims that he never had a choice in loving Bella). Bella chooses Edward (actively endangering herself and others), chooses to be a vampire (supposedly an evil, immoral life endangering others), chooses to give birth to Nessie (possibly an inhuman killing machine while endangering herself and others), and so on. And instead of ANY consequences AT ALL for what appear to be TERRIBLE choices (based on every single book except the back half of BD), she's ALSO the only one who gets pretty much everything she ever wanted while everyone else has to live with whatever crumbs of happiness they can eke out. It's infuriating if you care about anyone AT ALL other than Bella.

Totally agree! It's always been amusing to me that SM says the books are about choice. The apple being offered on the cover presents a choice: do you take it or not? Do you eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil? Do you take the apple from the old woman who might be a witch or evil queen in disguise? And the original name of the book was "Forks;" obviously for the setting but also for the idea of forks in the road: which path you will choose?

But Bella's the only one with any real choices here. She actually has a lot more agency than a lot of people give her credit for. SHE chose to move to Forks. SHE chose to pursue a relationship with Edward. SHE chose the reckless actions in New Moon. SHE chose to ask Edward to sit out the fight. SHE chose to become a vampire. SHE chose to keep the pregnancy. She certainly suffers hardships, but they almost all come from choices SHE made for herself.

And the negative effects of those choices are temporary or unimportant to her specifically. Her scars from James are healed in the transformation; Emily's face is still scarred. The toll her pregnancy took on her body is erased in the transformation, but Esme is still 'rounded and soft' from her pregnancy, and Alice is 'thin in the extreme' from her malnourishment. Bella doesn't even burn for the full three days, only two! There's even a line where Edward literally says something like, "Renesmee's eyes are exactly your color, so that wasn't lost after all." She gets to keep Jacob literally forever (he has no choice) and she gets to keep Charlie when no one else got to keep their human families in their lives. Irina dies, but Bella doesn't know her so it doesn't matter.

I fully understand the main character is the main character for a reason; because they're special, because their journey is unique, etc. But this is also the reason I tend to find main characters annoying. This is not a Bella problem or an SM problem but a me problem. I feel similarly about Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen as I do about Bella Swan. I like ensembles; I like when there are lots of narrators, or when there's no obvious 'main' character. And if there is a main character, dollars to donuts they aren't my favorite; I will 100% always sympathize more with the secondary characters and find them more interesting.

Bella gets to choose what she wants for her life and it all works out for her. Good for her! Genuinely! But it's a glaring contrast to the stories of virtually all the supporting characters and, to me at least, less interesting. Forever disappointed Bella being a newborn was such a non-event. I was looking forward to it for three and a half books and she just basically carries on her life like nothing has changed. Meh. The supporting characters not having many choices and making the best of things is personally more interesting to me.

This is one of those "I need a break between my ten other illustrations, let me do a lil sketchy sketch :D" that got too ambitious etc. etc. I never want to see the color red again" moments. BUT!

I really, really like to explore Ratio's viscerality and what's happening between his brain and his nerves, like... all of this thorough control and discipline and he still has to breathe and react to himself and his surroundings, you know? His accomplishments are insane for "his age"* but he's going to run out of "age" at some point! His ambitions are so far reaching that he's not worried about getting doctorate degree Number Nine! Rather, his efforts are pointed outwards, into the universe, for the universe. As you know.

Speaking of his degrees, I had a half thought a while ago that we've seen him with two types of laurel pins.

One is him in his suuuuuper cute mother goose avatar (three leaves) and the other is the hat he's wearing everywhere else (eight leaves).

The thought was, "Aww, what if they're like commemorative pins counting the number of his degrees or whatever :)". Literally only because there's eight in the current one. This is kind of silly because then you'd HAVE to have an obscene number of degrees even for a normal person for your leaf pin to start looking like a laurel in the first place so scratch that BUT it's cute to think that it's still academic regalia. Something something I work in higher ed myself and it's like... it's like that.

The university goldsmith appreciates the job security.

I REMEMBER WHY I BROUGHT THAT UP. FOLLOWING the fantasy where more leaves = more knowledge!, in summary, even though Ratio seems to be a little beyond trying to get a prize every time he learns something now. But he does want to Keep Going. He can only Keep Going.

So I drew him in a bathtub full of an uncountable amount of gold leaves looking at the camera with an indescribable expression born from a hunger that will never be satiated lol DETAIL SHOT!

*Referenced only vaguely in a comment in the context of astonishment, but it could have easily have been "woah he's accomplished so much for his age (young)" as it could be "woah he looks good for his age (older)". There is no canon age and even then, reconciling standardized system time versus planetary time versus "does his particular breed of lizard human have the same lifespan as tumblr user nhura?" is a losing game for everyone involved! Here's what I think: I think he started going grey in his early twenties, whatever that means in spacefantasygame, and that that's very cute on him.

Do YOU think Ratio would be tempted by immortality???? Or would he MIND HIS BUSINESS

I got here as fast as I can. I just wanted to point out that THIS…

Is one of the gayest fucking lines of television I’ve heard in my life.

Even if the presence of the song itself somehow wasn’t a flashing spotlight enough, the literal voice of God directly draws attention to it. Telling us that in universe, a nightingale really is in fact singing in Barkley square, and to know its music is sweet regardless of if we can hear it. Just like there are really in fact angels (one fallen but we’ll let it slide) dining at the ritz, and they’ve been falling in love regardless of if they’ve been allowed to openly pursue that feeling.

And hell, maybe it’s BECAUSE of the traffic that the nightingale finally sings. Perhaps it wasn’t ready until it was sure no one else could listen.
