Yu Sheng (鱼生）

Yu Sheng is a well-known Chinese New Year dish developed by Cantonese. It typically served on the seventh day of the Chinese New Year called as ‘Ren Ri’. Ren Ri represent is a Humankind day which created by the goddness ‘Nu Wa’ as the goddess spent six days to create animals while on the seventh day she created humanity. Besides, Ren Ri also represent everyone’s birthday on this special day.

Moreover, Yu Sheng also called as ‘Loh Sang’ which come from Cantonese word.  People will eat Yu Sheng during Ren Ri to celebrate Chinese New Year and hope through Loh Sang can bring them good luck and increase their wealth for the upcoming year. Therefore, before people eat Yu Sheng, their will mixed all the raw ingredient together such as raw fish, carrot, cucumber and so on and toss all the ingredients high in the air and shout “Loh Hey!” and other auspicious hopes.
