The market is characterized by innovation, with vendors constantly introducing new flavors, ingredients, and variations to cater to evolving consumer preferences.
Market Driver:
A key driver fueling the growth of the bubble tea market is the increasing demand for unique and indulgent beverage experiences among millennials and Gen Z consumers. These demographic groups prioritize experiential consumption and are drawn to novel and visually appealing products. Bubble tea, with its vibrant colors, customizable options, and playful toppings, aligns well with their preferences for Instagrammable and shareable food and beverage items. Additionally, the rise of social media platforms has accelerated the trend, as consumers actively seek out photogenic and trendy beverages to showcase on their profiles, thereby driving foot traffic to bubble tea establishments and fueling market expansion.
Market Opportunity:
An emerging market opportunity within the bubble tea industry lies in the development of healthier and functional beverage options to cater to health-conscious consumers. While traditional bubble tea formulations can be high in sugar and calories, there is a growing demand for healthier alternatives that offer nutritional benefits without compromising on taste. This presents an opportunity for vendors to innovate by incorporating natural sweeteners, plant-based milk alternatives, and functional ingredients such as superfoods, antioxidants, and probiotics into their beverage offerings. By tapping into the wellness trend and offering guilt-free options, bubble tea brands can attract a broader customer base and differentiate themselves in a competitive market landscape.

When people say “Let's go get milk tea." nowadays it generally refers to getting some sort of beverage. It is not just limited to milk tea, but it could also refers to fruit tea, fruit juice, milk shakes, yogurts or even coffee. The most popular drink is Mixue’s lemon tea or bubble tea because they are generally the cheapest. Bubble tea with boba are not as common nowadays because I think they are not trendy anymore.
In the cities and especially around shopping districts, there are beverage shops in every corner. Competition is high so instead of coming out with new drinks frequently, accessories such as delivery bags, cup sleeves, straw wrappings and toys are released to stimulate purchase. As a result, there grows collectors who collects those limited release.
A word of caution:
This is a consumerism trap.
Milk tea are not healthy. Sugar is added when they are making the tea concentrate so even “no-added sugar” option does not guarantee no additional sugar in your tea.
Milk tea are highly caffeinated, sometimes even more than coffee.

equius likes to buy nepeta nice pieces of china for her tea sets, and to make sure they don’t get accidentally shattered he takes aurthour to the market with him, and then wraps the presents in about seven layers of the strongest bubble wrap before mailing them off. they arrive at nepetas house as beach balls and she enjoys shredding up the layers of protective packaging almost as much as the thoughtful gifts inside

Dread, is the insatiable almost incomprehensible feeling of anxiety pounding in your chest, the miserable closure of knowing your everpending fate… That overwhelming feeling of dread bubbling inside of your chest. That feeling that rises up after a bad score, a friendship lost, or when you know that you’re about to hit rock bottom again…
The smell of garlic chili oil flooded into Zao’s nostrils, and the sounds of arguing in Cantonese surrounded him. The crowded stalls packed with people at the night market felt like a safe haven turned sour. His senses felt heightened; the jittery feeling after not having his fill in so long.
He arrived at the stall at the end of the line. Its dingy red curtains blew shakily in the humid wind. Zao reached out a shaky hand to pull back the curtains before entering. The soft aroma of herbal tea laced with cigarettes doing no good to calm his nerves. The round table at the edge of the small room sat a familiar head of dirty blonde hair. The pair of sunken in lilac eyes stared apathetically into Zao’s warm brown monolids.
“How pathetic are you,” François said as more of a statement than a question his tone remained more bored than anything, his pale hand holding out a small copper container.
Zao grabbed it silently and swiftly as he turned around. The sound of cards being shuffled roughly being heard as he pulled back the red curtains once again. Part of him felt nothing but disappointment in himself and fought to fight the temptation but the part of him suffering from a brutal withdrawal won the battle.
The faint chatter and scent of fresh food layed in the distance along with the night marker as Zao ventured out further. The humid night air leaving droplets of condensation along his exposed body. He pulls open the cool copper container and pulls out the contents. Zao sticks the tip of the sharp needle into the barrel, as he pulls it back out a steady pour of the liquid drip out. His impatience winning as he eagerly flicks the tip of the syringe carefully ensuring no air bubbles remain.
Pulling his belt tight around his upper arm as he jammed the needle into his vein. Zao leaned his head against the cold brick wall behind him as the endorphins flooded his body.
“最后…”

Still here... with a WIP!
...still writing when I can, just not finishing much!
So here’s something different for me. I’m going to post a WIP, only here on Tumblr until it’s finished, then pop it on AO3 when it’s done. Reserving the right to go back and change stuff as I need to, I’m hoping that this will ‘encourage’ me to stop editing the bejeepers out of the written bits and get on with writing the rest!
Only Yesterday  - a Johnlock fanfic based on the outline idea of the movie Yesterday.
Chapter One - Nights Like These
On nights like these John walks.
He leaves work late, finally up to date with all the boring bits he’s been avoiding for weeks. Jacket on, he switches out the lights in his office and says his goodnights to the colleagues he passes on his way out. Outside the hospital he hesitates for a moment, then turns right instead of left - the opposite direction to the tube station that would have taken him back to his flat. He avoids the street that he always avoids and takes the back streets, past St Paul’s and down to the river. Already the sky is dimming through indigo to what passes for darkness in a city this size, and the myriad lights dance merrily on the Thames. Deep, silent and strong, this is not a river to gaze at for too long when feeling fragile so John crosses the Blade of Light quickly and shakes off the memories that crowd him suddenly, trying to drag him down.
Passing the Globe and the Golden Hind, then veers away from the river and through Borough Market. The streets begin to quiet, rush hour long since done. His feet start to ache but it’s easy to ignore that distraction when in his mind he is reliving other times, revisiting the places they’d stood, the restaurants they’d visited, the back alleys and shortcuts and greasy spoon cafes and crime scenes, the details they’d found and the frustrations and successes and the way they had laughed and argued and…
He walks the landmarks only he knows and tries to smooth the edges of memories that still steal his breath away sometimes, even now. He walks to blunt the past , or at least to appease it - to put it back where it belong, back where it keeps bubbling up from. He walks to forget. But he remembers.
Last night he dreamed of a grey sky, a voice choked with bitter tears, a falling bird, and dark hair matted with blood.
And on nights like these, John walks.
&&&
The first weeks are still a blur. He recalls only isolated moments, dissociated snapshots. One particularly perfect flower on the coffin. The diagonal sweep as the daylight moved across the sitting room rug, and still being able to smell his posh hair product every time the cushions on the sofa were disturbed. The chipped teacup in Mrs Hudson’s best china as they drank endless tea for want of anything else to do, trying to make sense of something that plainly didn’t. She’d aged a decade overnight, John recalls and he suspects that he had too.
He remembers the day the headstone had been placed. The morning he’d passed out because he’d forgotten to eat for days. The sound of the doorbell at 221B ringing every ten minutes for days after he… after. The night he’d been convinced the whole thing was a set up and that he was going to come back, a cocky grin on his face and a new story to tell. He’d stayed up for three nights, having convinced himself that several of the obituaries in the Times were actually a code and that he'd have to be ready when the time came for Sherlock to stalk back in, wink at him and drag him back into the whirlwind that was their life together.
In desperation he’d gone back to his therapist but had found no answers there. He remembers watching her pen top describe circles and waves as she wrote and wondering that she’d had so much to record when he’d said so little.
After four months John had moved out of Baker Street. He’d found a little flat in Whitechapel which was about as unlike 221B as it could be - all pine furniture, tasteful pale walls and colourful fabrics. Hateful.
After six months he’d quit the locum work and taken a teaching job back at Barts. Now he teaches the next generation of doctors how to be trauma specialists. He might not be a surgeon himself anymore, but he has skills and experience and knowledge to pass on and it’s absorbing and demanding enough that by the time his working day is done, he’s tired enough to sleep at night.
He’s been there for fifteen months. Mike Stamford stops by his office quite frequently, as does Molly who now lives with a nice bloke called Rob who works in radiology. They seem happy. Mike and his wife have just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary and are still like a couple of teenagers in the throes of first love. It’s ridiculous and delightful in equal measure, but what does John know?
He’s thought about dating once or twice but he feels like he has forgotten how to be that man anymore. He’s vague and evasive if people show too much interest in him, or worse, when they try to set him up with people.
John has learned how to function - ‘live’ would be too optimistic a term.  All he has to do is balance. There is a chasm, or a well beneath him, and it is filled to the brim with grief. It would be all too easy to mis-step and fall into that and allow it to consume him. But it is a familiar threat and is made more comfortable by that familiarity. John can see it, taste it, even touch it whenever he wants to, but as long as he keeps that balance, that perch above the chasm, then he can go on.
It’s not quite a life but it’s better than he was.
&&&
It’s late by the time John starts to think about turning for home. He glances up at a nearby road name and is surprised by how far he has come tonight. He hesitates before he rounds the corner to face the familiar sight. Angelo’s is a rectangle of welcoming, golden light tonight. It’s busy and obviously doing very well to judge by the groups who arrive while he is standing there. John recalls awkward conversation and the smell of oregano, the candle on the table, and then they were running and laughing and feeling guilty because there was a murderer they were out to catch but he’d never felt so alive or hopeful or grateful before.
John buttons his jacket, realising for the first time tonight how cool it has become. His hands fumble for his pockets and he glances up as the first lights go out further along Northumberland Road, casting darkness over a row of smart terraced houses. He thinks it’s coincidence or a glitch at first, but then, one by one the streetlights flicker out and as the wave speeds up and spreads, shop windows, signage and vehicle headlights die away leaving crazy after images on his retinae. People begin to murmur in alarm and John turns to look at Angelo’s, but they too are in darkness. Stepping into the road, John cranes his neck to see if there are lights further on down the street, any light at all but there is none. The voices get louder and someone shouts. There’s the sound of brakes and a car careers out of nowhere and gives him no chance to escape. He doesn’t feel the impact straightaway, only the way he is thrown several metres into the air before he hits the ground, rolls a few times and then joins everything else in the world by slipping abruptly into darkness himself.
His last thought is of him and what he’d think about the irony of the location and manner of his demise.

that's two blatant ass queer dean/destiel open promotion cycles on social media for two episodes and 2p0 is still making confused unga bunga noises on what's happening. Meg all "it's all about the narrative parallels" literally what I have been telling these morons for over a year while they dogpile me and deny it.
how long until they accept reality that they all fucked up, and that 2p0 isn't getting what he wants?
Tumblr media
I really
really
hope you remember that "only jensen's opinion matters" take of yours. Truly. Because you know, that man doesn't exist in a bubble. he talks to people whether you know it or not. and boy son him innocently smiling at low grade crew is not the dunk you think it is. nor is any sad semantics about dialect going to change it for you, or aggrandizing a scene being moved to a later episode for flow only for it to come back around like my old script draft process post indicated. None of it is going to change the end of the road, my man
jensen isn't a pokemon. he doesn't stay in a little capsule outside of the world until invoked for articles or appearances. he has like friends, and opinions not recorded by the media, and conversations about shit. And these people don't all magically turn up in consulting credits. But these people also are never, ever fucking serpentine ladder climbing fans, not even ones like jules being used as a political badge she's too daft to figure out. They're real industry colleagues and friends. They don't want you fuckin gremlins knowing their real shit.
Catch up. the system is built for DECADES to screen out goblins like jules and leave them rotting at the bottom of shit mountain never to be hired on another project again
welcome to destiel town. if you look on the right you'll see your mountain of failures and to the left, all the blatant ass deancas shit and overt marketing for the whole show complete with dean winchester shooting rainbows out of his head and the main account, meg and danneel all online all acknowledging the parallels you guys denied this shit is about. Either get in the clown car to fix the narrative or get out.
i know you and wigglebox threw in all your clout chips and lies to high school drama me but kids, no matter what childish drama rings you run, reality is reality. sorry you burned your chips. they're my chips now.
hey banned stalky pololers, remember all my history about the gulf? Unless you think I lied for 6 years in advance you might want to tell 2p0 and jules and wiggs to stop fucking around. I know wiggs never had real access to the tea because she wasn't trusted then either, but a few might. genuinely funny that the same people that screamed "nono never add wigglebox back here she can't be trusted!" ran to her the second they were told to stop being assholes. They'll all eat each other in time.
now the whole lot has sold out so bad they're working with wincels and lowkey j2 tinhats to spread bitter narratives and try to maintain old fandom clout proxy Wiki breaking her NDA for 8 months running and it's just sad all around
it's okay, banned people. you can just say you're salty as fuck you bet on the wrong horse, don't have meaningful leaks, leads or access, and zero meaningful involvement, and have been flying blind driven purely by grudgewank you're trying to pose as about leaks, when you lied to your followers for 8 months about the pilot, consciously. People that were banned that WERENT dipshits and figured it out politely requested to come back and did, but yall are just digging a hole all the way to fucking china
i've got people i don't trust now banging on my doors demanding to know how i knew what i knew, about things that haven't even aired yet, that you guys aren't even aware of, to the point a person begged and pleaded and apologized for how they mistreated me to know, mentioned "they" (wiki) were laughing and i reminded i didn't care because i been through this rodeo with mary manchin too and these kids dont understand their capacity limits. Manchin was wrong, I was right, and history is about to repeat. That person got it straight from jensen too. So like. you guys can all sit here and deny into the void. it is what it is. you've lost.
your grudges and malice and parasocializations and bad M&G spins and your anger at not being involved or meaningful or even having info worth two shits and realizing your wiki line is even moot, that's your shit to unpack, but you won't. Because the second you guys unpack that, your server driven by vendettas, five year old gotchas and denial is going to fall the fuck to pieces.
you guys don't even have spn scripts to hock anymore and nobody cares. any new attempts at sekrit info you or 2p0 spin are moot because they're getting disproven in matters of days. The only sustainability is trying to pspsps people with jules feeding scripts as they air, and pretending she hasn't been feeding you shit under the radar the whole time. but nobody cares, because it's fucking airing, and so far only one account in the fandom has been able to accurately stay on track on what's happening.
figure it out, douchecanoes. we won't need your scripts for the arguments you'll try to make about the end of the road in denial. it's pretty damn clear. you might want them to try to find some semantics to argue but the rest of the world won't
and it won't matter how much the outdated but self proclaimed cool kids screech or cry or throw drama bombs or twist things or lie, we're going where we're fucking going, so if you guys just want to convert to an anti server now, just rip off the bandaid and get it over with.
kids learning real quick that just because you don't like a fact or a person doesn't make the fact or person untrue. It just means you've been on the wrong side. enjoy that.

How did we get to this point? The origin story of Taiwan most familiar to Americans begins in 1949, when Chiang Kai-shek’s nationalist forces, locked for years in a civil war with Mao Zedong’s Communists, were defeated. Along with much of his remaining army, Chiang fled to Taiwan and set up a government-in-exile called the Republic of China. That government was recognized by the United States. But within a few years of Richard Nixon’s 1972 Cold War opening to Beijing, the U.S. formally switched diplomatic recognition to the People’s Republic. Ever since, Taiwan’s status has been cloaked in ambiguity. The U.S. acknowledges Beijing’s claim to Taiwan without recognizing its sovereignty over the island. To help deter a Chinese effort to seize Taiwan by force, the U.S. has pledged to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself.
That origin story explains Taiwan’s curious geopolitical status, but it leaves a lot out. When Chiang fled to Taiwan—with roughly 2 million Chinese from the mainland—there were some 6 million people already living on an island that was just emerging from 50 years of Japanese rule. Most of the people living on the island when Chiang arrived could claim roots in Taiwan going back hundreds of years. They had their own languages and culture. So too did the island’s many Indigenous groups, such as the Amis, the Atayal, and the Paiwan. To subjugate the island, Chiang killed and imprisoned tens of thousands over decades—a period known as the White Terror. He set up a military dictatorship under the leadership of his Chinese nationalist Kuomintang Party (KMT) and, from this offshore platform, vowed to reclaim mainland China.
Taiwan is different now. With its broad boulevards, glass towers, military monuments, narrow side streets, night markets, and ample signs in English, Taipei today presents an ambience of blended cultures: Chinese, Japanese, Western, and distinctly Taiwanese. Bubble tea, a Taiwanese invention, is everywhere. But consider what it was like to grow up in the shadow of Taiwan’s postwar history, and you can better understand the profound ways in which younger generations have been remaking the island’s politics and identity.
Emily Y. Wu is a professional podcaster who blends a focus on youth culture with an urgent concern for Taiwan’s political present. (One of her shows is called Metalhead Politics.) She is among dozens of Taiwanese I spoke with during the past year, first on Zoom, then in person in Taipei. Wu was born under KMT martial law in 1984. Her family did not come over with Chiang; they had lived in Taiwan for generations. “Chiang Kai-shek brought China over,” she told me. “I grew up always knowing that there was this alternate history: It was Taiwanese history, which was not taught in school.” Students were taught Chinese history and geography under the presumption that the KMT would one day govern China again. Mandarin was spoken in class, and speaking Taiwanese was discouraged. Wu recalled Lesson 9 of her childhood textbook: “ ‘Hello teachers, hello students, we are Chinese!’ ”
But a movement for democracy was building. “We grew up hearing these names, knowing that there was a group of activists, scholars, lawyers that tried to imagine a free Taiwan,” Wu explained. Many of those people were members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which currently governs Taiwan. In 1987, the KMT lifted nearly 40 years of martial law. Wu’s political consciousness was shaped by the protests, marches, and hunger strikes that led to Taiwan’s first true presidential election, in 1996.
By the beginning of the 21st century, Taiwan was becoming ever more democratic—and ever more Taiwanese. The school curriculum changed: Taiwan’s distinct history was taught, as were Taiwanese languages. Taiwan also began to celebrate its Indigenous population. After the election of President Ma Ying-jeou, in 2008, links of trade, investment, and travel helped reduce tensions with China. Ma was from the KMT, and the party’s Chinese heritage and its ties to Taiwan’s business elite eased the way to détente with Beijing. But many Taiwanese, particularly the young, feared that forging too close a connection could ultimately give Beijing leverage over Taiwan. In 2014, in what became known as “the Sunflower Movement,” named for the flower that served as a symbol of hope, students occupied the Taiwan legislature to oppose a free-trade agreement with China. After a tense standoff, they succeeded in stopping the deal. They also helped propel a political wave that in 2016 brought the election of the DPP’s Tsai Ing-wen as president.
As Taiwan was becoming more democratic, China was becoming more autocratic. And as Taiwan was becoming more Taiwanese, China was becoming more fervently nationalist. After the ascent of Xi Jinping to the head of the Communist Party, in 2012, Beijing shifted from incentives to coercion. Xi’s government proved adept at bullying companies and entire countries to stop doing business in Taiwan and to recognize China’s narrative of sovereignty. Xi also began escalating crackdowns on China’s periphery—in Xinjiang province and in Hong Kong.

Week 5: Solo Trip Around China!
Hello hello! Something I was told over and over before coming here was that I needed to travel around China rather than staying in Shanghai so this week I took the advice of travel bloggers and went on a solo trip to Hangzhou and Nanjing! I am writing this post solo trip and to my parents’ surprise, both of my kidneys are in my possession—I think. Here is a brief summary!
I arrived at the train station 2 hours early because I was expecting airport security but I was through security in less than 20 minutes (oops) so I was left stewing in a pool of my own nerves for way too long. But my unease immediately went away when I took my seat on the train amongst the funniest and friendliest aunties (older ladies) I’ve ever met. My limited chinese lead me to do a lot of listening rather than participating in the gossip but it was fun regardless! One of the aunties actually lives quite close to my dorm so I have plans to play Mahjong(Chinese Poker) with her sometime!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I arrived, I walked to an ancient town to explore! This town seemed to be a bit less of a touristy spot than the places I’ve been too which was a fun new experience (except when a wild dog chased me)! Actually, a photographer asked to take some photos of me for free which was a really fun experience and really nice of him but I think he put a really strong filter on the final product.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, I explored the night market in the downtown area which had so many stalls! The street food was so yummy and filling, I didn’t end up eating dinner and ate wayyyy too much sugar.
Tumblr media
The next day in Hangzhou, I hiked around a mountain that grew Hangzhou’s famous Longjing Green Tea and visited a temple dedicated to an ancestor on my mom’s side King Qian where a fellow traveler helped me look for my mom’s family’s jaipu (massive family tree for a certain surname). We found it but was unable to flip through it :(.
Tumblr media
In Nanjing I took a bullet train, wandered, met fellow foreign exchange students studying at Shanghai from Poland, Italy, and Germany. While sitting on the Nanjing City wall, I met some students visiting Nanjing from Wuhan where they helped me pick out good food and find cool places to take pictures. Afterwards, I met up with a friend from Michigan that also happened to be in China. We went to some crazy bathrooms and a beautiful temple before I took the train back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I felt this trip really pushed me out of my comfort zone as I had to communicate using Chinese all on my own since my bilingual friends weren’t there as a crutch. It also was really fun having the freedom to just explore China the way I wanted rather than having to consider a million and one opinions and needs. I also made lots of unexpected friends that I would have never talked to if I had stayed in my own bubble. If you do travel abroad, provided the country is safe, I 10/10 recommend solo traveling.
See ya next week!
