Choreography: How to Save a Scene from Too Much Interiority
Warning! This essay contains some (minor) spoilers for the novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. (We’re still in the first half of the book). In her second novel Half of a Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie achieves an ideal to which I aspire: a smart, literary, highly readable love story full of cultural references, history, and vivid, textured characters––just the kind of…

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of "The Thing Around Your Neck," talks about how a person considered a hero by the world at large can be thought of differently by their own family, as told in one of the short stories within the novel entitled 'The American Embassy.' This full interview from a 2009 episode of "Conversations On The Coast with Jim Foster" can be heard now wherever you get your podcasts.

Hello everyone, it’s a new week! I’ve had quite an interesting day being on an interview panel and my brain is ready to go to sleep 😴 but here’s a book haul of three paperbacks I treated myself to just before Xmas - because why not? 🤣 Purple Hibiscus is the story of 15 year old Kambili and her older brother Jaja who lead a privileged life in Enugu, Nigeria. “They live in a beautiful house, with a caring family, and attend an exclusive missionary school. They’re completely shielded from the troubles of the world. Yet…things are less perfect than they appear.” This is the only novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie that I haven’t read and I’m looking to it! Next up, I knew absolutely nothing about These Bones Are Not My Child but was compelled to pick it up from the title and the cover alone! It was written over twelve years and Toni Morrison said it was “a magnum opus…puts the reader at the heart of the horror that came to be called the Atlanta child murders.” Finally, Station Eleven which I have already read but only in the Kindle version. I love buying physical copies of my favourite books if I’ve read them digitally. Does anyone else do that? I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a lovely week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagramuk #anotherbookhaul #scottishbookstagrammer #chimamandangoziadichie #purplehibiscus #thesebonesarenotmychild #tonicadebambara #stationeleven #emilystjohnmandel #favouritebooksever #tbrtoppler #toomanybooksnotenoughshelves #neverstopbuyingbooks #insatiablebookworm https://www.instagram.com/p/CpvWJzqra8J/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“I am Nigerian because a white man created Nigeria and gave me that identity. I am black because the white man constructed black to be as different as possible from his white. But I was Igbo before the white man came. My point is that the only authentic identity for the African is the tribe” ― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Imagina a correria! Hahaha mas eu amo muito, só que eu não vejo a hora de chegar as férias para me dedicar inteiramente ao meu blog que tanto sou…

I am looking for recommendations for books written by black authors about the struggles the black community faces. I would be grateful if you could please suggest some below. I have read two of the books pictured here by @chimamanda_adichie. I highly recommend Americanah and Half of a Yellow Sun. Next up will be The Thing Around Your Neck with my friends, @the.snow.child and @ink.on.us. Have you read any of this brilliant writer’s work? . . . . . . #thethingaroundyourneck #americanah #purplehibiscus #halfofayellowsun #chimamandangoziadichie @houseofzabadi https://www.instagram.com/p/CA-4fNUHhev/?igshid=qkjj4gih2xay

Resulta extraño que en todos los acontecimientos importantes de mi vida siempre haya tenido la sensación de que tú eras la única persona que me comprendería.
