I'm having a hard time acquiring media from Colombia. I want to read books and watch shows FROM Colombia BY Colombians. I'm not advanced enough to read Cien años de soledad or La Casa de los espíritus; I need something like Twilight or The Handmaid's Tale, except written BY a native hispanohablante FOR hispanohablantes. I hope this makes sense.
Thank you in advance for ANY help you (or your followers) can offer me. I love you.
I'm not really sure about Colombia specifically (aside from Encanto, though also Casa de los espíritus is technically from a Chilean author but regardless)
As far as Spanish-speaking things, I don't read a lot of YA things in Spanish so I wouldn't know what to say aside from House on Mango Street but that's very specifically YA but not fantasy
One of the more prominent authors that comes up for contemporary YA writers that speak/write in Spanish is Laura Gallego García who is from Spain but wrote the Memorias de Idhun trilogy as well as La leyenda del rey errante and also the Guardianes de la Ciudadela series
I know of some other authors like Mario Vargas Llosa, or Carlos Ruiz Zafón
The closest authors I know of that fit your criteria would be maybe Julian Delgado Lopera though he's not really a fantasy writer... or there's Silvia Moreno-Garcia who I don't know if that's really your thing but wrote Gods of Jade and Shadow, and also Mexican Gothic which I think have Spanish versions too but definitely more Mexican-centered than Colombian
Followers? Any suggestions?

A Feminist Analysis of "Two Words"
A young Belisa discovering a newspaper with words. Artwork by Ratterree (2014).
A web version of this essay is available at: https://bit.ly/42c9lrx
The Twilight Beauty Society Needs
The Chilean author Isabel Allende (2006) once remarked, “A man does what he can; a woman does what a man cannot.” This principle is illustrated in her short story “Dos Palabras” or “Two Words,” written in 1973. It revolves around a presidency-aspiring Colonel hiring a young woman named Belisa Crepusculario, whose power is gifting words that can even drive away sadness, into making his campaign speeches. With her power, not only the people were touched but also the Colonel’s heart. As magical as the story appears, its elements expose the misogynistic standards of society.
The story shows the unbalanced power dynamic between men and women. In the story, men like the Colonel and El Mulato could aspire for positions of power. On the other hand, women were left with low-level occupations, such as “a prostitute or a servant in the kitchens of the rich” (p. 2). Even the gifted Belisa was forced to serve under the whim of the Colonel, “fearing that El Mulato would shoot her” (p. 4).
This power dynamic was shown to be a hindrance in Belisa’s expression of her strength as a woman. At the beginning of the story, Belisa was mentioned to have “survived to cross the [hellish desert]” (p. 1) on her own, showcasing her raw strength. However, the sudden appearance of El Mulato and the Colonel, unfortunately, made her a submissive individual. Had she not possessed the gift of cleverness, she might’ve not taken advantage of her situation to make the Colonel’s “voracious-puma eyes soften” (p. 7).
It is Belisa’s situation that exposes how women are valued. Often, women are seen as objects of lust, just as “El Mulato could not take his eyes from [Belisa]” (p. 4). They are subjected to abuse like Belisa being “thrown like a sea bag” (p. 3). How they are treated is based on the importance of their service. After all, the Colonel would not have valued Belisa had she not written a good speech nor given him the two words he needed in his life.
Overall, the story shows how society creates an uphill battle for women. The patriarchal society dictates that women cannot progress if they cannot immediately prove their worth. However, when given a chance, women can surpass even the titanic contributions of men and fill in society’s missing gaps.
Thus, beauty and twilight are to the Colonel as women are to society.

So, I’ve decided to revamp my video game characters project (I’ll try to find a good name for this, but I’m open to suggestions), changing the format, going for drawings a bit more simple and quick, but not with less details, and also because I think my skill level is better now than when I started the last time (not to mention that I had to change some drawings size, quality, etc.)
So, new project, and to kickstart everything, here’s Midna!
Next drawing: Also Midna, but her regular form.

What if the Avengers were the Animorphs? I'd think it wouldn't go that well, but I'd like ta hear your opinion.
Nonny, I 100% agree. Assuming this is a universe in which the six original MCU Avengers bump into Elfangor in a construction site just before what would otherwise be the events of the Avengers movie, a few thoughts on just how badly that would go:
None of them would morph. It’s a new technology, it’s a technology they don’t trust, and it’s a technology that threatens their sense of autonomy, which for Clint and Natasha especially would be a giant flashing “NOPE!” sign. They’re intelligent adults, and they’d almost certainly talk themselves (and each other) out of using it.
Probably Tony would express an interest in at least giving it a try, in the name of Science! Probably Bruce would, very gently, tell Tony that attempting to transform one’s own body using untested technology does not tend to end well. Probably Tony would take Bruce’s point, and just not morph.
This is also a team of people who have pre-existing weapons with more firepower and fewer drawbacks than morphing affords. If mind-controlling aliens are invading, they’d probably fall back on tried-and-true methods like hammers and arrows.
Steve would immediately tell The Proper Authorities about the invasion. He would not listen to Elfangor’s (or Tony’s, or Bruce’s) warnings about The Proper Authorities. Not because he doesn’t believe them about yeerks, just that he honest-to-bob believes in The System. He’d believe that 15% of cops being controllers isn’t enough to make all cops bad, and would totally believe that if they can just make sure everyone knows about the invasion then they can surely muster a resistance movement from among his fellow Americans.
Steve would not properly estimate just how many casualties this move would result in. The authorities being 15% yeerks is still plenty of yeerks to get 50% of people killed in the crossfire. And The System is not exactly capable of standing up to a strong battering from within the way that Steve might hope.
Not only that, but an open invasion (which Steve would accidentally kick off) gives Visser Three license to do everything in his power to annihilate the 90% of humans they don’t need for host bodies. And given that the yeerks can cook an entire planet from the outer atmosphere (#52), that would not end well.
If Steve would handle the news of the yeerks the worst, Natasha would handle it the best. Can’t trust anyone or anything? Can’t reveal your secrets to the world? Need to protect your identity at all costs? Cool, she was already on that train well before Elfangor arrived.
Honestly, Natasha might pull an Alice* gambit: grab Clint, burn their identities, and run for the hills. They’d still be working on trying to solve the alien thing from within their safe house in the Chilean wilderness, but if their plan didn’t succeed then they’d be well positioned to just... stay put and let their friends do the vainglorious dying for the cause.
Thor would probably take a far more measured approach to the problem. He’d definitely fight anyone who attacked him first, and he’d be more than happy to destroy yeerk pools and ground-based kandrona generators and the like, but he also wouldn’t concern himself too much with the bigger picture the way that especially Steve and Natasha do.
Honestly can’t decide what the most irresponsible thing Tony could possibly do with yeerk and/or andalite technology, but by gum he’d find it and do it. Possibilities include:
Sneaking off in the middle of the night to test the limits of the morphing tech, Bruce’s warnings be damned. Note that he still wouldn’t be weaponizing the morphing; he’d just be doing things like trying to morph plants or trying to acquire DNA samples without living animals attached or trying to demorph after 1 hour 59 minutes.
Using andalite communications technology to hack all yeerk and human lines to everything. Whether or not he’d actually get anything useful from this big BIG data would depend on how distracted he got by trying to find proof that Nick Fury listens to boy bands or Captain America secretly watches porn.
Trying to make his own chee, at home, in his garage, using only what he’s seen of the chee themselves. Obviously this would end in Ultron, who honestly couldn’t really make the situation all that much worse.
Buying the entire Quaker Oats company, and copyrighting their maple-and-ginger instant blend. Again, this one could go really well or really badly, depending on what he does with that copyright once he’s got it.
Also: Loki would get his ass handed to him by Visser One before he was on Earth more than 10 minutes. And none of the Avengimorphs would ever know that they’d dodged that bullet.
* [Twilight saga spoilers]: In Breaking Dawn, Alice foresees that her family’s well-meaning but stupid plan to challenge vampire authorities is likely to get them all killed. Knowing she can’t dissuade any of them from the plan, she settles for packing up her hubby and running for it. They do end up finding a way to save the day while they’re off in Chile, but it’s strongly implied that if they hadn’t then they would’ve just stayed put, poured one out for their dead fam, and carried on with their lives.

A few months after I drew this comic, I was reading more about astronomy in the Arctic and found that this was completely opposite: the more extreme weather conditions, light interference (aurora borealis), extreme angles found at the poles--makes it harder to stargaze out there. At least compared to a good clear night pretty much anywhere that isn't at the poles.
Kinda hard to see stars when you can't see a lot during an aurora borealis.
Although according to this one paper,
"The most significant feature of the polar night is a massive radiation inversion which allows a cold and very stable weather with very clear skies."
Oh, man, those pics.
...Anyway, so maybe that impression isn't totally wrong but I do hate thinking I might have be unwittingly spreading a wrong impression of an already wrong thing.
The Astronomical Polar Night is a period of the arctic winter north of 8433'N, when horizon during astronomical twilight. The Nautical Polar Night is a period of the arctic winter north of 7833'N, when the most light is a faint glow in the southern sky, but it is impossible for an observer to make out any horizon.
That what now? AUGHHH *takes notes*. This is unfortunately, important for my dumbass Arctic headcanons. This is Tundra's fault.
Anyway, Astro isn't exactly wrong and maybe should know better coz he's a weather robot, but really, Astro's a sweet romantic at heart.
His favorite thing is wishing upon stars I'm gonna cry 😭😭😭
Okay, I've got a million questions about the Arctic (because lol fanfics) and this one of them: so the Arctic is basically a desert.
Because it gets very little precipitation.
The Arctic is a cold desert and the northern areas are among the driest on Earth with less than 100 mm total precipitations per year, as in Ellesmere Island or Peary Land. Most of that is received in the summer due to the increase in moisture capacity of the warmer air and an increased area of open water in the Artic Ocean.
But snow is precipitation. So what is the extreme weather made of? Is there no snow in there? Is it just wind? Just pure wind chill.
Also this paper is mainly talking about conditions in Canada. I wish I could get my hands on Russia information. Although to get the best info, I'd probably have to understand Russian itself.
Its well known that good astronomical sites are at high elevations, slightly inside the land (as the Chilean border) or inside islands (Hawaii). One needs high rising peaks to access high atmospheric layers without changing them very much, but not exactly on the sea border because there is too much moisture.
This is good info. I mean, yeah, to stargaze high points are the best. But the stuff about too much moisture not being great.
Going more inside Greenland is definitely drier but there one finds too the high and wide ice plateau which changes the stability of the atmosphere (the top of this Plateau is a very windy place). However this should be investigated further.
Wind= not great.
Anyway, I should go borrow that book again some time.
I don't think I'll make a major change because it serves the better and would kinda ruin the flow and mostly, because 1) Astro's a romantic 2) I don't think Tundra would care very much especially at his condition at the moment. Astro would probably visited the poles himself. At least not this Astro. So he believes in the beauty of the untouched wilderness of the North.
Also, I can't really change anything because I have my doubts of my own info. But I still don't like of the thought of spreading a misconception!
Not to toot my own horn but Astro is noticeably most excited talking about stars even when the bad shit is going down. Even just momentarily, he forgets all the bad stuff and his eyes and voice lights up when reminded of the stuff he loves most. Good character moment.
