eldest daughter syndrome is so real. my little sis once told me she thinks i've been a mom to her just as much as our actual mom (who is...very much alive and present in our lives). katara having to fill that role is spot-on. sokka not being fully aware of that is probably also accurate on some level. makes me wonder about how their relationship would change as they become more independent adults, if they ever get to a point where they can talk to each other about everything that affected them together as kids. idk it's an interesting topic to me

I'd like to think they would. Here's the thing, i really love Katara and Sokka's relationship (as much as we get of it anyway). It's clear there's a lot of love between them, and I think especially as Sokka matures and gains more perspective, I think he would come to appreciate what Katara sacrificed for him. In my deepest mind holes, I think he'd even get angry on her behalf. But, more likely, he might never realize the depth of what exactly Katara went through on a conscious level, but as leader of the SWT, she would be on his mind a lot when he's considering what kind of society he wants to help rebuild and women's place in it. I think Katara would be on his mind when he's considering who should be allowed to train in waterbending, or what justice will look like in the SWT going forward. I also think they would exchange a lot of ideas on governing over the years, too.

I love this playing the shipping-matchmaking game and twisting everything around. And yes, Rufftoon never said Who is match ed with who.

But My theories are:

Aang/Azula (his expression says all)

Katara/Haru (impressed but not so much)

Sokka/Ozai (Sorry but I don't see other reasons to cause a stroke)

Toph/Aang (the Kyoshi Island's guy prove it)

Zuko/Azula (Sorry for the Prophetess Grey DeLisle and her followers, but this would be the only reaction by Canon Zuzu to Zucest )

Iroh/Ty Lee (he's a good man After all, and clearly he will never approve a similar thing)

Ty Lee/Sokka (I remember this Truth. "CUTIEE!")

Mai/everyone Who isn't Zuko (Well, It's believable)

Azula/Haru (It could explain her embarassed and confused expression as "Who the hell is this guy?")

You know, It's funny that nobody remember Lo and Li (the two old ladies at the bottom, Azula's counsellors), and I understand normal fans (they forget that Ty Lee was attracted to Sokka, and they prefer shipping them with Azula, a respectable choice but they pratically prefer a crackship to a real Canon love interest, that It was one-sided but It happened, a thing that I will never understand), but had the same two principal authors forgotten their existence?

realistic zukka: zuko is swamped with being firelord and righting everything wrong w the fire nation that he has No Time for visitors or personal letters, sokka is busy as chief of the swt and building all his little inventions to speed the rebuilding efforts along. zukka doesn’t speak for weeks bc they simply don’t have the time or mental space to think about that.

that is, until zuko wakes up in the middle of the night to a face over his, grinning like a madman. zuko’s instinct is to fight bc there has been five assassins this week and it’s only monday. sokka is screeching like a banshee bc if zuko breaks his invention-

the guards burst in and light up the room to find chief sokka of the swt desperately scratching at the ground to get away from a half awake firelord zuko who is currently beating him with the first thing he could get his hands on: sokka’s invention.

Seal-Shark Jerky (Zukka)

Chief!Sokka, ExiledPirate!Zuko AU

Sokka stays behind in the village to help his people and only Katara and Aang go away.

In the Tribe it's common knowledge that Sokka loves seal-shark jerky. It's his favorite food. Everyone, including Zuko, a pirate known by the name Blue Spirit, feared in the Four Seas by every Fire Nation stamped ship and revered by any outcast, who likes to spend the crews breaks and recoveries in the lands of the young Chief.

Or so he thought, until...

"I hate jerky" admitted Sokka in the silence of the night, Zuko to be the only ear in miles "I've never said that outloud before..." he laughed shakily "when I first started taking care of the Tribe, when I was around ten-... Oh, by La, I was so young" a hand in his mouth, incredulous.

Zuko couldn't even imagine the pressure, the fear.

"A-anyways, back then, the food started depleting, because all the hunters had gone to war and nobody knew how to hunt. At least not well enough. Later on, people learned"

Sokka shifted, avoiding his eyes, but unable to stop himself.

"Everyone, the children more than anyone else, hated jerky, which was the most abundant source of nutrients, and almost the only one, for a while" a sigh, reminiscent "I knew that I, being the closest to their age, excluding Katara, and having been left in charge by the Chief, my father, that they had begun to see me even more as their role model" he closed his eyes, a small smile touching his lips "So I used that to my advantage"

Zuko couldn't take his eyes away from the young Chief. Even if he had wanted to, which he didn't.

"So I started telling everyone how jerky was the best thing ever invented, salty and impossible to chew as it is. That winter was the first, and the only one, in which jerky almost went out" a soft laugh, Zuko blushes, and bullshits himself into believing it's because of the cold air "The next winter, there was more variety of food, but the Tribe wholeheartedly believed I went crazy over jerky, and gave me their jerky rations all the time, until jerky was the only thing I ate for a while"

A rush of cold air goes through, and Sokka closes the gap between them completely. Zuko is the warmest thing in the entire continent, at that moment.

"And so, they ate other things, and left the jerky to me. I think eating so much jerky may be the only reason why my fangs are so sharp" He laughed, from deep in his belly, this time. He wasn't sad anymore "Now, when I eat it, I'm happy, because it means someone else is eating something better. So yes, jerky is my favorite food, and I hate the taste of it"

Could Zuko actually fall more in love with that idiot?

Okay I need to know something

They climb over a few large spirit vines to discover they’re in Little Wolf Cove, a mostly Water Tribe residency before Harmonic Convergence took it out. Now, just another dead zone. Chief Sokka’s statue greets them as they enter, cracked and tilted by the vines wrapped around it.

Beifong moves to get a closer look. Mako expands the fireball in his hand to brighten their surroundings. She scoffs at the sight of it. “He’d be begging Korra to free it from the vines. Or, have Raiko commission another one,” she tells him. Grief briefly haunts her as she stares up at him. “If he were here, anyway,” she adds before moving on.

Mako takes a moment to look at it alone as Beifong resumes her search. The boomerang once in his hand now lays in the dirt, small vines clinging to it. He thinks he remembers seeing him once as a kid. During a parade, honoring some Water Tribe holiday. Mako waves. Chief Sokka waves back. Dad—with Bolin up on his shoulders—ruffles his hair when he looks up at him, prideful. Mom laughs.
