Kojiro laughs, wonders if he should perhaps be concerned that laughter comes to him so easily in such situations, and continues to wipe down the glass in his hand as if Adam had done nothing more than remark on the weather. “What, did Langa put you up to this?”

“Maybe so,” he retorts, blandly. “It seemed like a sound idea, at any rate. Tadashi seems to be enjoying it.”

It’s the stuff of stories, what Langa had no doubt proposed: a shared love for a shared hobby rekindled, no words necessary when the wheels and adrenaline will do all the talking for them. It’s what no doubt brought Langa and Reki back together, so seamlessly that it was as if nothing had gone wrong in the first place — and yet:

🔥 female protagonists in video games with self-insert protagonists (or lack thereof)

Like I know especially in fandom there is a culture of treating the Protag as their own character and not as a self-insert which is cool, I guess and people love to say “well changing their gender makes them a completely different person!” And I understand that in p5 especially it changes the power dynamics of at least the Kamoshida Arc if not more and stuff but like DAMN do Persona games especially still really think your self-insert is a teenage boy who like thinks about teenage boy things. I remember playing p5 for the first time and just not getting the maid thing? Or the Operation Babe Hunt stuff. And I am into girls! It shouldn’t feel that dissonant but it does for reasons I can’t really explain

Like if they’re their own character that’s one thing but if it’s a self insert character whom I am naming and getting to use I’d literally much prefer the character be written as gender less than having them be a teenage boy you know?

Side note: I know things like Fire Emblem Fates and Splatoon will use the female protagonist forMarketing purposes and whatnot but has a game ever given the player a silent female Protag self-insert and not given the option for a male Protag?

Sakura begs him not to go, so Sasuke stays. And year by year he falls a little more in love with the girl he couldn’t leave behind. (AU in which Sasuke never abandons Konoha.)

Five Petals by PrecariousSauce (Complete, T)

Several things happen all at once in less than a minute’s time. Sakura’s elbow slams into Sasuke’s side from an angle he doesn’t anticipate, sending him tumbling end over end off the branch. Sasuke rights himself just a second too late and without checking where he’s going to land– When he does his knee twists, he feels a lightning bolt of pain shoot from his sole to his head, his leg gives out. And Orochimaru’s teeth sink down to the gum in Sakura’s shoulder.

There are two sequels to this work: Intermission and Yamazakura

Intermission (Complete, T)

Nobody can put their life on hold for two years, not even for Naruto. Time skips like a stone over water, making contact every so often and getting a glimpse at what's below the lake before flying further. Sakura conspires deep below the earth and Sasuke lives one day at a time.

Everything Sakura’s been working toward, all her efforts over these two years in the dark will finally bear fruit. She can feel her headband sitting heavy in her weapons’ pouch. She resists it’s call. She can only wear it again when her mission ends, however it ends. Sakura takes a deep breath and opens the door. Time to shed her skin.

i am yelling (happily! respectfully!) at the sothis AU because making her the player character could have been such a haunting take on player avatars in general! just this pervasive feeling that you are not in control, that you were NEVER in control because sothis being here at all, in this particular form, was something that was meticulously planned and prepared for. literally anything you do, barring joining up with edelgard, results in a success for rhea.

it's the logical extreme of robin's entire existence as grima's vessel! except sothis is present in a way that grima was not, and there is no chrom or shepherds to just give you a sense of control over your present and your future. does byleth actually exist when it's sothis controlling everything? how much agency does sothis have, when her present circumstances are dictated by forces beyond her control? byleth was somebody to at least one person (jeralt), but does that mean anything at all when everyone either a) desperately wants sothis to return, or b) wants to change a fundamental aspect of who byleth is, personally?

Yeah! Yeah! It’s a question of whose in control and takes the ongoing game writing issue of player agency vs character agency (ie the idea that you want characters to have agency in the plot and make their own choices but you also want the player to have agency in the plot and you have a problem if one overrides the other) and just brings it into the plot and it’s so interesting

Side note: No I have not played Deltarune yet. Yes I should do that
