Moved the little boy pigs out of the big pen and onto grass. Also moved the girl pigs to a new spot. Then I worked on the mini chicken tractor a bit more. Got the wire, part of the roof and some of the siding put on. Not sure if I'm going to put a third piece of panelling on it or leave that open. Maybe leave it open for the summer heat and then cover the other two sides during the winter. Or cover everything in the winter. The other half of the top will be the door which will be a frame with wire over it. I'd also planned to put some of my summer plants into the garden. But we're actually expecting a night in the high 30s. Our last frost date is supposed to be April 15th so this late cold snap is really weird. Yesterday we moved the younger meat birds to the chicken tractor. The tractor is moved daily around the property to fresh grass, it’s currently being moved through the orchard. I had a little talk with one of the juevies as we strolled to his new location. We spend time with the birds to assess their health and size. The silkies were moved from the brooder to the chicken tractor with the Cornish rocks. That made more space in the brooder for the remaining pullet chicks and gave them more space as well. The silkies will learn how to get water from the nipples from watching and imitating the Cornish rocks. The rocks are meat birds and don’t move around very much but so they don’t mind the 8 new roommates.
