Of course. Of course David would drag him to this event, and it was obvious that, to please his partner, Marat would agree.
But, clearly, this wasn't his thing.
He never enjoyed this kind of... This kind of encounter. He always saw them as one of the many meaningless entertainments of aristocrats. But, that was not the case at this time. These people, or most of them... Gived their everything France in battle. Of course that Marat would believe that, it was just fair for them to have fun.
And they even had the kidness to invite him.
So, the only thing left for him was to wait in a corner, while fidgeting with his long cravat. Because of course, aside from bringing him here, David also stripped him of the comfort of his clothing. Currently he was dressed in a red coat... And a pinkish vest. As long as it "matched" with his mask. The flamingo mask.
He really hopes this will be worth t̶h̸e̵ ̴i̵t̷c̸h̸.̵
((Hi! So here's a draw I made of Marat's mask))

Félicitations ! The stars of the evening have chosen you as dance and conversational partners for the waltz and/or quadrille. This thread is for you two to at least talk to each other and either get along or don't get along in an entertaining way.
The entrance to the ball may be found here, with more information and activities to partake in.
We would suggest describing your mask and greeting as a good starting point. Bonne chance !
—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—
Here are some Out Of Character things to keep in mind:
You're both wearing masks, and might not recognise each other even if you know each other. Maybe if you want to be able to recognise your partner, ask OOCly first if you can.
For the specific dance partner threads, only post if you're a participant.
There's no word count requirement for roleplay posts. We encourage shorter, conversational posts to promote interaction, but we won't police writing styles.
Real life takes priority, so please be understanding if dance partners don't respond quickly. We hope for a conversation to develop within 2-4 weeks.
If your dance partner is unresponsive and you're eager to participate, use the general mingle threads. You might find a new partner or even ask a host or staff member to dance.
Remember, this is an in-character high-class event with etiquette expectations. While your character can be rude, avoid excessive disruptions. The focus should be on conversation and relationships.
Remember that in-character actions don't reflect out-of-character feelings. If a character is rude IC, don't take it personally OOC. If you do have any concerns, the messages will be open on this blog.
—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—
We wish you a most pleasant encounter, and may fortune smile upon you and joy guide your steps!

Little Yellow Emperor: the Life of Napoleon in LEGO
Tumblr media
The Battle of Waterloo Domain is hosting a LEGO exhibit called "THE LEGEND OF NAPOLEON IN LEGO BRICKS." As a recovering LEGO addict and an eternal fan of 18th/19th-century French history, I simply had to go. After successfully bribing the husband with beer and fries and the children with waffles, we made the trip today.
The exhibition was smaller than I expected, but some of the builds were genuinely impressive. It traces Napoleon's life from his birth in Corsica to his death on Saint Helena—a neat, bite-sized way to introduce his story, and a fun way of recreating history. However, one thing that did bug me a bit: while the audio guide is available in multiple languages, all the wall texts are in French. In a trilingual country, especially at such a touristy site, that feels like a bit of a miss (plus, it gave the Dutch-speaking husband an excuse to grumble).
Gripes aside (1), the exhibit was a lot of fun. Here are my favourite builds.
1. The Campaign in Egypt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This recreation of Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign is absolutely brilliant. The photos don’t do it justice—every detail, from the Sphinx to the busy French camp, is spot on. It's also huge and apparently took close to 70 hours to build! @chickenmadam can you spot Kléber?
2. Napoleon's Coronation as Emperor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second build, depicting Napoleon's coronation, may be smaller, but it's full of impressive details. I especially loved the grumpy expression on Pope Pius VII’s face, along with the equally unimpressed looks from the rest of the clergy—it really adds character to the scene!
3. The Coup on 18th Brumaire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again not a very big build but... those red capes... the hats... the outfits —need I say more?
4. Napoleon asks Josephine for a Divorce
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment is supposed to be, by all accounts, heart-wrenching for everyone involved—Napoleon asking Josephine for a divorce. But, since it’s LEGO, it ends up looking unintentionally hilarious.
5. The Crossing of the Berezina River
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another brilliant build, capturing what was arguably Napoleon's greatest military disaster. While it's not as large as the Egypt campaign scene, it’s packed with intricate details that make it just as interesting.
6. Napoleon's Civil Code
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes. He has a GIANT parchment.
7. Daddy Napoleon and his son
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because the King of Rome has a purple teddybear and a grumpy statue of his dad in his room...
Bonus: The Battle of the Arcole Bridge
Tumblr media
Not particularly impressive per see as a build, but this is one of my favourite moments in Napoleon's story, so... why not?
Notes
(1) Yes, they recreated the siege of Toulon. No, Bonbon isn't in it. That makes me sad.

Guys, I think I’m going to bite the bullet and do some beta/sensitivity reading, 😂
(I know sensitivity reading is controversial, btw. I don’t want to harp on new creators, just contribute my prospective on issues and groups that I relate to, especially since some of these groups are more niche…)
Wish me luck, because I’ve never done freelance gigs before and I’m nervous af…

Alright. I am back. Levavasseur, Heymes… Where is Jomini?
Levavasseur: He is pleasuring the Russians, I presume? You should have kicked him back, sir.
Captain - Octave... I know how overprotective you are of me, but Jomini really did his best to help me, as much as you two did.
Heymes: We should give him a chance. Everyone deserves a chance.
Yes, Heymes is right. I also gave you a chance after forming a band with Soult’s staff and singing “I will always love you” because guess what - I CARE.
I did it again after you almost ended up duelling the said staff because of hurting Soult which I admit felt rather cathartic, and I welcomed you back because you have always been a great AdC and I didn’t regret having picked you back then. Because I CARE.
This place apparently really works differently. So, let’s explore and get the most out of it, damn, guys, we can’t even die. Let’s get up and kick assess because we deserve it!
Levavasseur+Heymes: Yes sir!
Heymes: Oh wait is that Masséna’s ADC @chickenmadam ?
Oh. Merde.

whats the most epic prank you played?
@chickenmadam , I think Kléber already told you this one?
But anyway, I enlisted Davout’s help ( @perdicinae-observer ) for this (he was reluctant but we were getting back at our enemies sooo…). We loaded our cannons with dried grains like rice and beans and shot at the English. You should’ve heard the unholy screeching!
And then Kléber chased after them dressed as a ghost!!! And howling!!! Only Larrey didn’t seem to appreciate the fact that we had banished the English! Some of the soldiers screamed like kids!!!
And then we let all of their horses loose, just to make their lives a bit harder.
A close second in terms of pranks would be one with Kléber on the receiving end. I disguised a log as a crocodile and placed in under his blankets. Nile crocodiles can look like logs from a certain distance. Let me tell you, Kléber was screaming in keys I didn’t know existed! Then he got back at me by replacing my wine with vinegar… Fun times!

I find it almost comedic that you have mastered using Tumblr, Somehow figured out how to navigate the website @chickenmadam sent, and the bookmarks bar, but you have yet to fully figure out how to use the Google Search Engine. Thats like the first thing people figure out.
I'm getting there. I might've learned how to use it already if you weren't using the only computer here for 6 hours a day.
I have homework! My schooling is technically what pays our bills. I'll loose the Stipend if I'm not studying. T-T

So, Citizens, the next review for the Jacobin Fiction Convention will be tackling “Love’s First Light” by Jamie Carie. In case it doesn’t ring a bell, I already showed a sneak peek. It’s that book with the portable guillotine in the year 1789.
So, let’s have fun with this train wreck, shall we?!
(Dedicated to @chickenmadam , @frevandrest and @maggiec70 )
Stay tuned!
P. S. Apparently, this is supposed to be a Christian book, so trigger warning if you have any religious trauma.

OOC: The Napoleonic Askblog/Roleplay Scene Directory
Here's an Out Of Character post listing the blogs I'm aware of in the Napoleonic RPF Roleplay Scene! It's OOC because Lannes would want to make sarcastic remarks with typos.

Turreau, brutal husband and tyrannical father
In this link https://www.tumblr.com/nesiacha/758106798113914880/fate-of-marie-ang%C3%A9lique-lequesne-wife-of-ronsin?source=share, @chickenmadam rightly pointed out that if Turreau was a horrible person with his wife Marie Angélique (an understatement), it's therefore likely that he was also a terrible father to his children.
On this site https://rembarre.fr/g_tur_ec.htm, it seems that Louis Marie was indeed awful to his daughter Alexandrine Cléophée, who was a boarder at the Maison de la Légion d'Honneur in Saint Denis, either in 1809 or 1813. However, her father removed her and forced her into a convent in Conches. Marie Angélique was not able to secure permission to remove her daughter, despite a court order on September 22, 1814.
I feel like this was a final petty act by Turreau, especially since they were apparently separated from 1806 (the official divorce took place later, in 1813). The municipal authorities even had to move her to safer quarters, forcing her to live in poverty to the point that William Thornton collected funds for her so she could return to France. He wrote these words: "It is a shame that such a man represents a nation." A member of Congress stated that Turreau was a savage. Madison Dolley, the politically active First Lady of the United States and a friend of Marie Angélique, despised Turreau. As has been mentioned before, the way Turreau treated his wife shocked the political class. In addition to what he had done in Vendée did nothing to improve his reputation.
According to Plumer, Thomas Jefferson remained cautious and paid no attention to Turreau's private life (in my opinion, to avoid a diplomatic incident, though surely he had his own opinions). As for Napoleon, he didn't recall Turreau until 1811, so I don't get the impression he understood the severity of Turreau's actions. I mean, I wouldn’t expect much from a man (Bonaparte) who laughed at the suggestion/joke that a man could knock out his wife to bring her back forcibly to their home. But honestly, Turreau represented France in the United States, and his frequent mistreatment of his wife shocked the Washington political class, who were charmed by her. Apparently, some Americans even wondered when they saw him if all Frenchmen treated their wives that way. So, if Napoleon didn't see the moral reasons to reprimand Turreau (after all, he promoted quite a few bloody and oppressive laws regarding women), he should have recognized the pragmatic reasons to reprimand him. Fouché was just as criminal and detestable as Turreau but at least he was a good husband and father unlike him.
As for the fate of Turreau’s daughter, here’s an excerpt from the Bien Public of March 24, 1878: “We draw the attention of the Minister of War to a grave misfortune in need of relief. It concerns the daughter of Republican General Louis-Marie Turreau, aged 78, who lived in Nancy, in the Faubourg Sainte-Anne. Miss Turreau, one of our correspondents writes, has no resources; she has lived for a long time in true destitution. In 1876, a local newspaper, La Sentinelle, organized a subscription in her favor, which yielded the meager sum of 225 francs, and that was all.”
I console myself by thinking that at least it was better for her and her mother to face financial difficulties (though it must have been tough to go from having no material needs to living in some poverty), at least they were far away and safe from that man. I wonder why she didn’t receive financial support from her brothers. Did their father turn them against her? Couldn’t they help, or didn’t they want to? I’ll need to look into that.
