it's interesting to me that kaidou specifically says that yamato should address him as 父上/chichue. i've talked about it before, but it's a particularly formal and antiquated way of saying 'father.' the only other people we have seen using it (and the corresponding 母上/hahaue for 'mother') up to this point are oden's children (being from a high-class samurai family) and the celestial dragons, and i think the merfolk princes as well?

to me, it certainly says something about kaidou's aspirations that he is expecting that same level of formality and respect from his son- like he is trying to forcibly make them into a samurai family.

What was your first job? Gosh, this really reveals what a nerd I am 😳 but I worked in an immunology lab running antibody assays in high school.

What languages do you speak? English, Cantonese

What is a place you have been to that you love? The Monet room in the ChiChu Art Museum on the art islands in Japan. I could sit and stare at his Water-Lily Pond painting for days.

What is your favorite midnight snack? I have the saltiest salty tooth, so probably kettle chips or Cheetos

“Aunty Nini n’ Jichu, when is mama and mommy comin’ back?” Mina lifts herself onto the couch to try to get away from Chaeyoung who was chasing her with her tiger plushie. “We're not too sure, buddy, hopefully it will be soon.” Jennie smiles reassuringly and Jisoo adds onto Jennie's sentence. “We can always message them if you want to.” Mina's eyes light up and she quickly nods her head. So with that, Jisoo took out her phone and she messaged Jeongyeon.

You: Hey, where are you guys? Your kids, specifically Mina, are wanting for you to come back.

Yoo Beep Beep💚🐶: We're on our way home now, with the newest addition to the family.

You: Oooo, well then see you three soon.

Jisoo looked up from her phone and she saw not only Mina staring at her but also Sana and Momo, which startled her a bit since she felt like she wasn't on her phone for long and within that short time Sana and Momo teleported to her, not in a literal sense though they just moved quickly over to her. “Where are mama and mommy?” Momo questions while Sana attempts to see Jisoo's messages. “They're currently driving back right now so they'll be here at any moment.”Jisoo responds which makes MiSaMo cheer in happiness, in fact Sana jumps off to tell the others.

Meanwhile with Jennie, she was now running around the house because she was being chased by Rosé, Lisa, Dahyun and Chaeyoung. “I thought the teams were meant to be more fair?!” Jennie merely escapes being hit by a flying chipmunk to her head. “It is fair. Nini you're grown up ‘n we awe kids.”Jihyo counteracts since she decided to be the referee for whatever this game was called. Jennie couldn't think of a rebuttal so she just accepted her fate.

As the game was about to start up again, Sana charged through all of them. “Mama and mommy are coming home!” Sana jumps up and down and she points to the front door, while Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Chaeyoung were excited, Rosé and Lisa were confused since Jisoo and Jennie were with them. “Haha Wosie ‘n Lili awe silly, it's not Aunty Nini ‘n Chichu.” Dahyun laughs at the faces Lisa and Rosé made which made the duo pout. “We knew dat! We were just… uhh just… testing you!” Lisa responded now with a smug grin on her face.

Thankfully before any arguing could start, the front door started to unlock and when it was open, Nayeon, Jeongyeon and now Tzuyu had appeared. “Hey guys, I know that you're all excited to see us, but we all need to be quiet, your youngest sister is sleeping.” Nayeon says quietly, the girls plus Jennie and Jisoo nod their heads and they let Nayeon and Jeongyeon enter the house before they all crowd around them.

“Aww she's so cute, please send us pictures whenever you feel like it.” Jennie whispers while she takes hold of Lisa's hand, Jisoo doing the same with Rosé. “We'll leave now so you guys can have some well deserved family time.” Jisoo waves goodbye and Rosé copies her mom, they then swiftly leave and Jennie and Lisa followed them once they said goodbye.

Now it was just the nine of them left, the girls got a better view of their youngest sister. “Chaeng, look you're a big sister now.” Jeongyeon mentions which makes Chaeyoung smile widely at the fact that she was no longer the youngest, however, there was a slight feeling of jealousy inside of her because she was used to being the baby out of them all, but her love for her little sister trumped the jealousy.

“As you guys know, this is your baby sister and her name is Tzuyu.” Nayeon whispers since she noticed that Tzuyu was still fast asleep. Despite everyone's attempts to stay quiet, it ultimately failed after 10 minutes since Tzuyu's eyes fluttered open due to the hushed tones all around her, she then looked around to see a whole bunch of people she didn't know so she had a confused and slightly disgusted look on her face. “Why is she lookin’ at us like dat?” Momo asks her mama and mommy. “It's because you're unfamiliar to her since this is the first time you're all meeting her.” Jeongyeon explained and there was a collective sound of ‘Ohhh’ as they all understood what was happening.

For the next couple of minutes Sana, Momo, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Chaeyoung introduced themselves to Tzuyu, who just stared at them with not a single thought behind her eyes, until she saw a dog plushy on the floor, which belonged to Sana. The baby then whines softly and she keeps her eyes on the toy to indicate that she wanted it. Jihyo follows Tzuyu's eyes over towards the toy and she walks over to where the plushy was, picking it up before going back to Tzuyu and giving it to her.

Tzuyu takes the toy and she places the ear into her mouth to suck on it, Sana noticed that Tzuyu had one of her toys and she was about to complain about it when she realized that Tzuyu looked absolutely adorable like that and in that moment an idea popped into her head. “Mommy, can we pway with Tzu?” Sana asks and the other girls also decide that they want to play with Tzuyu too. “Alright then, you guys can play with Tzuyu, but we need to be gentle since she's basically incredibly fragile. Also we can play until dinner is done.” Jeongyeon tells them and they all agree to not play roughly around or with Tzuyu.

So with that in mind, Nayeon left to make dinner for everyone. She decided on cooking pizza since it was quick and easy to prepare. Everyone else was still in the lounge and they decided to play a superhero game with Jeongyeon moving Tzuyu's new toy for her and Tzuyu simply giggled and smiled whenever something interesting happened, in her opinion anyway. After 20 minutes, the pizza was ready and Nayeon sorted out slices so they were as even as possible. She had used two pizzas so people can get more than one slice and they didn't have to argue over the spare slice.

During the time everyone else ate, Nayeon sorted out Tzuyu since she was basically a newborn baby, she had to have something else to fill her up, which meant that Nayeon gave Tzuyu milk to also make her bones stronger. Once Tzuyu had finished her bottle of milk, she yawned which showed that she was about to fall asleep. “We can hewp with Chewy's night woutine. Pwease?” Mina offers to help out because she wanted to bond with Tzuyu more and so did everyone else.

Nayeon found it hard to deny them from helping her out, since it could be beneficial to have some extra hands instead of doing everything by herself or only just with Jeongyeon. “Okay, you can all join me with Tzuyu's bed time.” Nayeon smiles and she goes to go through the routine that she created and used for all of the girls when they were babies since it always worked. However, this time for Tzuyu there were 2 kids at each station to pass things to her. The only difference being when Tzuyu was placed in her crib because Dahyun decided to read Tzuyu a story despite the book being upside down and she was making everything up.

Shinjuro Apology Update: Part 3

Shinjuro tried to wrap his head around what had just happened. Succession-wise Senjuro was supposed to be Kyojuro’s tsuguko, but based on what he had just heard, Kyojuro and Senjuro were in agreement that Senjuro was not to be the successor. He remembered telling Kyojuro that the line would end with himself on Kyojuro’s first mission, but as he tried to search his foggy alcohol memories, he couldn’t remember if he had said that to Senjuro also. Both of his sons were sensitive, and if he had said that to Senjuro he could see his youngest taking it harder than his brother. He was sure Kyojuro would never blatantly tell Senjuro that he wasn’t good enough to join the Corp or that his sword skills were bad.... 

But he would, especially with how he’d been acting these past few years. Kyojuro had forgiven him, but as Kyojuro had pointed out, he had been ill-tempered towards Senjuro. He felt that fear scurry back in. If Senjuro didn’t forgive him, it would hurt. But he reminded himself that he deserved to not be forgiven, and he still needed to apologize and leave the decision in Senjuro’s hands. 

“Senjuro,” he looked down at him. Senjuro looked up obediently, his eyebrows up in that worried expression. Always that worried expression…”Come here a moment.” He walked to the edge of the veranda, set down the dishes then kneeled down. His youngest watched, curious, but followed him over and sat down across from him, also placing the dishes to the side. 

“Yes Chichiue?” 

Shinjuro tried to brace himself by placing his palms on his thighs, “I’ve wronged you Senjuro, and I’ve failed you as your father---You have always been there for me and for Kyojuro, even when I have been and acted less than human…and certainly less than a father should act. You have always been kind, understanding and generous and all I’ve done is ignore you and force my responsibilities as a caretaker on you. I’m truly sorry son.” 

Shinjuro looked down at his hands, scared to look Senjuro in the eye, scared to see the contempt or anger. “I won’t pretend that I can remember everything that I have said to you boys over the years, and I don’t expect this to erase any of it, but the negative things I’ve said about you and your brother aren’t true. Know that I am ashamed of the harm I’ve caused you both with my actions and words towards you. I won’t ask for your forgiveness, that’s more than I deserve, but please hear my apology Senjuro.” Shinjuro closed his hands into fists then he bowed as he finished, closing his eyes. 

Senjuro sat with quiet patience as his father apologized, he felt the tears come when Shinjuro described him, as he listened to Shinjuro he heard his brother’s gentle request on a spring morning.  “Don’t hold a grudge against our chichiue. Losing our hahaue was too painful. I’m sure someday Chichiue will be the same as before.”

Senjuro got up and kneeled directly in front of his father, he softly put his hands over Shinjuro’s clenched fists, “I forgive you Chichue.” 

Shinjuro looked up as he felt Senjuro’s hands on his, looked him in the eye just as he granted him forgiveness. Senjuro gave him a genuine smile through his tears. He cried hearing the words of forgiveness, cried at how quickly Senjuro forgave him. Cried because he had been blessed with two wonderful boys, two boys who were already a better man than he ever could hope to be.

Why can't I turn into a big dragon like you and Father ?

That's what Nil is saying.

However, in transcription he is saying "boku ga doushite, chichiue ya oneechan mitai ni ooki na ryu ni narenai no ?"

父上/chichiue is a rather old fashioned way of saying "father" compared to the likes of otosan or even otosama/お父様 which Nel use to refer to Sombron.

Literaly chichiue can be translated as meaning "honorable/honored father" while otosama could be seen as meaning "Lord father" (if you are familiar with Genealogy, all the girl who call their older brother onisama have it translated as lord brother). This can be used by royals in video game since it's very old fashioned like Diamant and Alcryst calling Morion chichiue.

However Nil calls Nel oneechan : big sister. Oneechan/お姉ちゃん means big sister in a very affectionate way and is considered to be childish as children use it more then grown up to refers to their older siblings. Veyle calls F!Alear oneechan as well to reinforce her childish and innocent nature.

Now what I'd like to point out is that the use of those two terms is showing something. Nil is a young child, he is at best 10 physically, so him using oneechan makes sense, but what is weird is the use of such a formal and old fashion way to speak of his father, chichiue. This creates a distance with Sombron while reinforces his love for Nel. And I'd point it out but those words are in kanji, like the word dragon/ryu, whereas the rest is in hiragana, this creates an emphasis on those words. Here the use of chichue show the rather cold relationship Xenobron has with his spawn and the warm relationship between the twins.

Now about Rafal

At the begining of the DLC "Nil" calls Nel "neesan"/姉さん instead of onechan. This is still very casual but at first you could interpret it as Nil simply stopping to call her that way cause he is a grown up adult now and that using it, especially in front of someone is no longer seen as acceptable, since he also stopped using hiragana to say boku and instead use kanji. However... Rafal still calls Nel 姉さん after the end of the DLC. And that's the thing.

Did Rafal always called her 姉さん ? Rafal is someone who speaks in a rather old fashion way, so him calling Xenobron chichiue, like Nil does is less surprising, its also possible he calls him that way to emulate Nil. However, if he always called her 姉さん, this indicate something. Rafal took Nil's place when he was still a young child, at an age where Nil would call Nel oneechan, so if when he took his place and from that moment to the current days, he called her neesan instead, this might have been a clue for Nel that he wasn't Nil. If Rafal has a child already had a similar personality to now, it's clear that calling someone oneechan would sound out of character... and he would probably die rather then do this.

So the appellation neesan would actually end up being something more then it actually seems. This would be the one thing that in those 1 000 years the two spend together would distingusih Rafal and Nel's relationship from Nil and Nel's. This would actually explain why Nel and Rafal ended up building, despite the deceit, an actual sibling relationship that would mean this much to the guy, not even realizing that in reality, Nil didn't had that with Nel. That it is the one thing he owes in his siblinghood with Nel, calling her neesan.

don't mind me just thinking it's neat that not only is chichu turtle-rabbit a fan of sailor moon but has strong opinions on exactly which character she is (to which i totally relate as i am also hotaru tyvm 😙)
