Since Chicago Fire is airing its 200th episode (whoop! whoop!) tomorrow, I was wondering if you could share some of your favorite episodes and/or moments over the last 9/10 seasons! There's a lot of discord now around the fandom but personally, I think we should all be celebrating regardless of how tomorrow night turns out. Not a lot of shows can say they'll be airing their 200th episode!!

OMG YES, could I ever! I’d love to! Also, truer words have never been spoken, nonny: we should be CELEBRATING right now and not worrying. Save your tears for the worst case scenario and until then, you’ll get nothing but smiles from me! ☺️ Anyway, I actually have a list of my favourite/top tier episodes for every season so I’ll definitely post that along with some notes for certain episodes on my favourite particular moments!

This list is very long though so you know the drill folks: the good stuff is under the cut!

Season 1:

1x03 “Professional Courtesy” all the way to 1x06 “Rear View Mirror” (and even further)

* Specifically, the Casey v. Voight storyline!! It where we first see Casey’s shining moral code and just how good and decent he can be. He’s stubborn when it comes to those things which ends up costing him but watching him stick by what he believes so vehemently made me fall in love with his character <3

1x19 “A Coffin That Small”

* Genuinely such a beautiful episode! This was such a rare and beautiful episode of television to watch

1x22 “Leaders Lead” (CRY TIME)

* #Halliedeservedbetter

Season 2:

2x02 “Prove It”

* This is the beginning of Casey’s original journey with the Darden boys and going back to watch it now makes my heart full. They might have been tough at first but Matt was adorable with them

2x10 “Not Like This”

* As a Matt Casey stan, this episode gives me anxiety. BUT. I love it (the episode, not the anxiety).

2x20 “A Dark Day”

* Because duh, it’s the first major crossover event between PD and Fire! Everything about it is *chefs kiss*

2x22 “Real Never Waits”

Season 3:

3x01 “Always” (CRY TIME)

* Probably the episode of Fire that is ALWAYS guaranteed to make me cry. Shayveride is the friendship that I will forever miss and watching this episode is like a punch to the heart but is so well-done

3x08 when they do Cruz’s zumba class!

3x11 “Let Him Die”

* My girl Sylvie Brett absolutely SHINES in this episode— so intense but so great! It’s not just her and Mills’ storyline that pulls me in either, it’s everything about it. The Jay appearance, the stinging but warranted Dawsey split, baby Terrance Bode being a-okay after his messy birth in the Squad truck. This episode delivered on all fronts!

3x19 “I Am The Apocalypse”

* Backdoor Med pilot! Super interesting concept and I love going back to see the very beginning of this fictional universe’s expansion

Season 4:

4x04 “Your Day Is Coming” (CRY TIME)

* I was debating whether or not to put this one on the list because this is when you first start seeing the troubling pattern of One Chicago pregnancy and/or adoption complications but honestly, I had to put it on there anyway. Monica’s acting was phenomenal and the scene with Herrmann on the phone was so gut-wrenchingly beautiful.

4x10 “The Beating Heart”

* Christopher Herrmann is amazing and I love this grumpy ol’ optimist. That is all ❤️

4x16 “Two Ts”

* Again, another time for Sylvie Brett to shine! Her “Two Ts” moment was so satisfying and her and it was here you see how well she and Jimmy worked together as ambo partners

4x17 “What Happened To Courtney”

* Two words: PLOUCH. WEDDING. The story of Severide and Stella when they were in the academy, Trudy being hilarious and a mood, Kim and Gabby taking her comments on their guy troubles, all of it is so beautiful!

Season 5:

5x01 “The Hose or the Animal”

* Seeing Severide beat the shit out of Grant and defend himself and Stella was 10/10, and watching Stella cut Grant off made me so proud for her <3

5x03 “Scorched Earth”

* “… or I will lay you to waste and leave nothing behind but scorched earth. Don’t think for a second that I’m not serious” MATT MF CASEY! It’s just that moment that I love so much

5x06 “That Day”

* Such an important episode for so many reasons. A beautiful tribute to the fallen heroes in 9/11!

5x08 “One Hundred”

* Listen. I’m not a Dawsey fan but this episode in general was great and I have to admit: they had a really cute wedding! I mean it got a little fucked up there at the end with Louie’s dad coming to their doorstep but this episode was a huge milestone for them! 100! To think we’ve doubled that is insane!

5x15 “Deathtrap”

* I love these kinds of super conceptually creative episodes! It reminded me of when Hodgins and Brennan got buried alive in Bones. We see Matt clawing his way out of a tough situation with two civilian lives in his hands. Impressive AF.

5x16 “Carry Me” (CRY TIME)

* I mark all the saddest episodes “cry time” for a reason and it’s because they genuinely make me cry. I love Stellaride so much but watching Kelly lose someone still hurt like a bitch 😭 But Taylor Kinney’s acting came in clutch her and he absolutely nailed it!

Season 6:

6x08 “The Whole Point of Being Roommates”

* THE ROOMDOGS. THE MF ROOMDOGS.

6x10 “Slamigan”

* The birth of the Slamigan! Also, welding!Sylvie is a goddess. She could step on me and I’d say thank you

6x15 “The Chance to Forgive”

* Literally just the Stellaride of it all. Like Kelly breaking protocol to save her, “I can’t go through this again”, Casey’s pep talk, THE SEX SCENE. Soulmate shit!

6x23 “The Grand Gesture”

* I know this was the Dawsey split episode (even though they didn’t finalize it until 7x01) but honestly, it was still a great episode. I really liked what they did with it

* Seeing Sylvie crying alone in a car made me sad though :(

Season 7:

7x02 “Going To War”

* The Infection crossover is everyone’s favourite crossover event but I’ll be honest, this one’s a close second! Stella’s lung storyline, Jay with his dad, Otis struggling after seeing the dead mother and child in the elevator, RITTER’S INTRO. And the Brettsey ambo talk!

7x07 “What Will Define You” Benny’s funeral

7x13 “The Plunge”

* Everyone standing by Foster and helping her

* The actual plunge!! The ladies snuggled together in their swimsuits! Casey holding Herrmann back!

7x19 “Until The Weather Breaks”

* EVERYTHING about this episode is great. Conceptually really creative and sweet, a perfect balance of cute but suspenseful, and the beginning of Brettsey’s journey (Yes, there will be a lot of Brettsey episodes and moments in this list. And what about it?)

7x22 “I’m Not Leaving You”

Season 8:

8x01 “Sacred Ground” (CRY TIME)

* BROTHER I WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS. I think that is arguably one of the best scenes on the show. Beautifully shot and so emotional.

8x03 “Badlands”

* Sylvie Brett storyline!! I love her being back and everyone welcoming her home

8x04 “Infection, Part 1”

* BEST crossover event! No explanation needed!

8x13 “A Chicago Welcome”

* Sylvie and Matt REALLY shine in this episode— together and as individuals— and it’s so refreshing. You can definitely see the compassion in that episode. One of my favourites.

Season 9:

9x02 “That Kind of Heat”

* Sylvie Brett the stone cold slayer who casually gets out of a crashed ambo and saves the life of the man who tried to kill her

* Brettsey kiss! Minus the last minute of course because that did not happen)

9x05 “My Lucky Day”

* Literally one of the best episodes of cable television to ever air. Conceptually BRILLIANT, amazing directing, Joe and David act their asses off. You’re left feeling satisfied but also very aware of the idea that their troubles were only a small fraction of the whole picture which makes it even more astounding

9x06 “Blow This Up Somehow”

* Gallo and Casey father/son episode? Yes please, sign me up!

* THE STELLARIDE CONVO. So. So. SO. Important. And beautiful!

9x16 “No Survivors”

* “My fiancée” *the firehouse proceeds to flip the fuck out*

Series médicas

Casualmente la mayoría de series sobre hospitales, urgencias, medicina en general las podemos encontrar ahora mismo en Amazon Prime Video: 

New Amsterdam.

Es impresionante, totalmente diferente a las series convencionales. Considero que está muy bien ambientada en la situación actual tan burocrática de los hospitales públicos (y más en EE. UU., esta serie cuenta la vida del último hospital público de Nueva York y algunos casos son basados en casos reales del director médico al que escenifica el protagonista); por lo que gira un poco sobre el tema de recortes, de falta de recursos alternativos, de centrarse en aspectos más importantes como la atención al paciente, todo por la incertidumbre generada por las iniciativas privatizadoras. El protagonista es un crack, es el epicentro de la historia y ya verás (si ves la serie) por qué es tan importante. La recomiendo muchísimo porque creo que muestra una cruda realidad que es muy equiparable a nuestro caso en la sanidad (solo hay que ver la cantidad de hospitales privatizados en España en la última década). Obviamente se entrecruza la historia del hospital en sí con la de sus personajes y considero que hay historias personales desgarradoras mientras el impulso del protagonista es hacerle la vida más fácil a toda persona que se le cruce, tanto paciente como sanitario/a.

The Good Doctor. 

Imagino que has oído hablar de ella. He de decir que es una maravillosa obra de arte que pretende no solo entretener a sus espectadores, sino que es el mejor formato para concienciar, sensibilizar y dar a conocer el TEA. El papel de Freddie Highmore es excelencia pura. Las tramas, los casos médicos, las dificultades relacionales y también los avances son completamente fieles a la realidad de una persona que tenga autismo al nivel del protagonista. Como ya te digo, es la mejor campaña de sensibilización que he visto sobre una enfermedad y que ésta no te encajona ni dicta lo que vas a ser en tu vida; y es que este mensaje es lo que más la hace destacar entre todas las series del mundo sanitario (si le quitamos a su protagonista, seria una serie que posiblemente cancelarían o ni se habría financiado).

Chicago Med. 

Es difícil ver esta serie suelta, más que nada porque es un spin-off de Chicago Fire y Chicago PD, aunque imagino que hay quien la vea suelta (mi hermana es una valiente y hace lo que le da la gana con el orden de los capítulos por verla doblada). El universo Chicago me apasiona, tal vez porque uno de mis sueños es conocer esa ciudad y ver tres series simultaneas sobre su realidad parece que me acerca un poquito allí. La recomiendo si hay intención de ver las demás, sino se pierden muchas cosas por los crossovers que hacen, la historia de los personajes, las relaciones entre los diferentes departamentos… Chicago Fire fue la serie que inició todo; creo, si no es así, que es la primera serie americana estrictamente sobre bomberos/as. Es a día de hoy y desde 2012 una de mis series favoritas. En 2014 lanzaron Chicago PD, serie un poco más típica sobre policías aunque en el ámbito de Chicago, hay mucha corrupción incluso dentro del cuerpo, y evoluciona muy bien la trama. Finalmente en 2015 iniciaron Chicago Med, basada básicamente en el departamento de urgencias del hospital. Después intentaron hacer una fiscal, Chicago Justice, pero la cancelaron, así que no hace falta ni molestarse porque no es relevante para el trío. En caso de interesarte el mundo de Chicago:

1x06 de Chicago PD realmente es la segunda parte de un crossover con Ley y Orden UVE (15x15).

The Night Shift. 

Esta serie se centra solo en el turno de noche de las urgencias de un hospital de Texas, siendo mucho de los médicos veteranos que ejercían como tal en el ejército. Es dramática y aunque hay líos amorosos, no llega al nivel de Anatomía de Grey. A mí me gustaba mucho y creo que es recomendable, aunque fue cancelada tras cuatro temporadas y no le dieron el final que merecía simplemente porque tuvo poca audiencia en EE. UU., mientras que en el extranjero fue muy bien asimilada, tal vez porque nos gusten las historias del típico americano rebelde que se unió al ejército y tiene un trauma que le remueve.

Ahora, el problema es cuando son series que no hay en plataformas de pago y que, sintiéndolo mucho, me tengo que buscar la vida desde megadade:

The Resident. 

Otro drama médico donde un excirujano militar muy peculiar es el centro (sobre todo al principio) de la historia. Es una serie que también trabaja bastante la burocrática hospitalaria aunque de forma menos contundente; también se centra mucho en la ética y la ambición relacionados con la corrupción del sistema y el negocio que se hace en el mismo. Ambos aspectos evolucionan de forma que pasan desapercibidas hasta que echas la vista atrás y recuerdas cómo era al principio. Es una serie sencilla, quiero decir, no busca que aprendas y/o te sensibilices como The Good Doctor o Transplant, tampoco es una serie drama (dramón) personal como Anatomía de Grey; se ciñe en su línea médica sin resaltar y eso hace que sea peculiar. La destacaría sobre las otras por la importancia que le da a la enfermería y a los diferentes niveles que hay en esta práctica, cosa que en otras series apenas se aprecia.

Nurses. 

Hablando sobre enfermería, este año han lanzado esta serie canadiense íntegramente sobre la formación de residentes de enfermería en el servicio de urgencias. La trama principal, que parece que pasa desapercibida hasta que conocemos un poco más a la protagonista, es novedoso en una serie de televisión de esta índole. Muestra de cerca el trato de las enfermeras/os, le dan el valor que tienen y que otras series han desprestigiado, como si todo fuera solución y/o invención de los cirujanos/as.

Hart of Dixie. 

Aunque tiene ya sus años, es una serie que empecé a ver sin ningunas expectativas (excepto la de ver a Rachel Bilson de nuevo) y sin embargo cuando acabó me quedó un vacío. No sigue la trama dramática de las series convencionales del mundo de la medicina, sino que es una comedia (con sus dramas, pero comedia). De hecho, se trata de una consulta médica tipo familiar en un pueblo perdido de Alabama. Describe a la perfección la vida sureña a la que se tiene que adaptar una joven que ha vivido siempre en Manhattan. Es graciosa, simple aunque con líos y triángulos amorosos por doquier, realista en cuanto a dificultades e inquietudes personales y profesionales (e incluso para adaptarse a un nuevo entorno). En fin, es otra forma de hacer una serie sobre médicos que no es la convencional ni a la que nos tienen acostumbrados las cadenas de televisión.

Transplant. 

Es una serie de este año y está muy difícil verla incluso online (yo la veo aquí aunque tardan bastante en subir/subtitular, pero merece la pena http://pobrenetflix.openhdporn.xyz/?tvshows=transplant , aun así ha habido veces que la han subido antes a megadede). Está en inglés y árabe. Está muy relacionado con el tema de los refugiados, el propio protagonista encarna a un médico sirio refugiado en Canadá. La serie se centra en su vida como médico a raíz de su experiencia en la guerra civil de Siria con las dificultades personales y relacionales que conlleva su situación y lo que ha vivido, y la realidad sobre el racismo que se entrevé en países donde hay tan alto índice de intolerancia, siendo aun así Canadá uno de los más protectores en este aspecto. Destaco esta serie ya no solo por el tema sanitario y la adrenalina y la empatía que me produce ver este tipo de series, sino por el gran trasfondo que tiene en relación a las personas asiladas y refugiadas, a las que si no les ves ningún talento que a ti te sirva potenciar o tener a tu lado, no lo vas a tener en cuenta, como por ejemplo el chico maliense que en 2018 salvó a un niño de caerse por el balcón y le dieron la nacionalidad francesa…

Anatomía de Grey.

Es esa serie a la que siempre comparé con Mujeres desesperadas en mi adolescencia. Sinceramente, no sé por qué ya que había visto capítulos sueltos de la segunda, pero nunca había visto nada de la primera, ni siquiera un avance de capítulo en la tele, pero sabía que sería un culebrón en toda regla; y lo es, motivo por el que lleva más de quince años emitiéndose, porque no se centra en la medicina en sí como principal recurso de entretenimiento, sino en las relaciones de los personajes. Tampoco recuerdo por qué empecé a verla, pero creo que es lo mejor que he hecho en mi vida en cuanto a series se refiere, porque me ha marcado muchísimo e incluso puede que haya influido en mi punto de vista sobre algunos aspectos. Sobre Anatomía de Grey hay opiniones para todos los gustos, y aunque yo tengo mis personajes y temporadas/época favoritas, no puedo negar que es la serie que más me ha gustado y también que más he visto. La empecé sobre el 2010 a lo mejor ya que no lo recuerdo bien, pero ya llevaba un buen trecho la serie y puedo asegurar que desde que empecé a verla por la temporada seis o siete, casi cada vez que estaba a punto de estrenarse una nueva, volvía a empezarla desde el principio. Es una de las series con las que más he disfrutado por su humor, sus personajes carismáticos, sus líos amorosos… Pero también es con la que más he llorado; sé que suena absurdo decirlo o incluso que eso sea una realidad, pero siendo una persona tan empática y sensible como soy yo, esta serie es casi que lo que más veces me ha roto por dentro con tramas (dramáticas a más no poder) que, si se trata de algún personaje favorito tuyo, te desgarra viva. Creo que lo que tiene que cualquier serie envidia de ella es que sigue evolucionando, es una serie resiliente que se va superando ante todos los trompicones que se va encontrando (marchas de actores y actrices, despidos, problemas entre el elenco, homofobia, enemistades, chantajes económicos), de forma que no te das cuenta porque lo hilan bien y no dejan cabos sueltos como pasa en otras producciones. Shonda Rhimes es una gran creadora de contenido y una muy buena vengadora cuando se oponen a ella. Ha creado todo tipo de personajes, de forma que considero inevitable que alguien no pueda empatizar con alguno de los que se presentan en la serie. Trata tantos temas… Temas tabú, temas estereotipados; el racismo, el sexismo, la ética y el código deontológico, las presiones burocráticas para privatizar la sanidad, las negligencias, las adicciones, el feminismo, los traumas, las agresiones y abusos, las relaciones difíciles tanto de pareja como familiares, relaciones a distancia, con infidelidades, la maternidad/paternidad, la homosexualidad, las relaciones con cargos de poder… ¡Es que lo toca TO-DO! No es una serie donde la protagonista tenga una vida de lujo, para nada, nos muestra la cruda realidad de alguien que puede ser tu vecino el que trabaja en una residencia, del que todo el mundo espera que sea excelente, el orgullo de su madre… No muestra personajes simples, etán bien construidos, tienen una base que hasta que Shonda no quiera no vas a conocer, y puede tardar temporadas y puede hacerte pensar cosas para luego darte con el canto en los diente, cogerte de la cara y decirte “¿pero qué te creías?”. Crea casos clínicos que te impactan y los externalizas (no la enfermedad en sí, sino la relación establecida), casos que pueden incluso volver a salir años después y tú te acuerdas y dices “¡pero si esto fue hace mil temporadas! ¿Cómo puedo acordarme?”. Hay evoluciones de personajes que simplemente emocionan, que te dan esperanza en que la persona más capulla de tu alrededor, a lo mejor no hoy ni mañana, pero en ocho años sea una persona maravillosa o al menos que se merece tu respeto. Otras veces te hace perder la fe en toda la humanidad, porque Shoda es una killer como George R. R. Martin y puedes llegar a odiarla lo más fuerte, porque todo fan de esta serie sabe que si piensas mal, vas a acertar. En fin, no acabaría nunca de alabar esta maravillosa serie y me entristece profundamente que esté a punto de terminar.

Sin Cita Previa (Private Practice) es el primer spin-off que se hizo de Anatomía de Grey, más concretamente sobre uno de sus personajes que se muda a Los Ángeles. Se presenta esta serie con el 3x22 y 3x23 de Anatomía de Grey. Los crossovers que hay son:

Station 19 es el más reciente spin-off de Anatomía de Grey. Imitando a Chicago o movidos por la inevitable finalización del año que viene de la longeva Anatomía de Grey, movilizan algunos personajes de la serie original a pasar bastante tiempo en su segunda hija como ancla para atraer a los fans. En el 14x13 se presenta a una de las que forman el cuerpo de bomberos de la estación 19 para dar paso a la nueva historia paralela de la ciudad de Seattle.
