It might have been sort of an accident the first time he steps into Bean There, Brew That, but it’s a first step in a really good direction. He likes the coffee shop, he likes the people that run it, and he definitely likes the sugar-soaked monstrosities that they make for him on a daily basis.

What could possibly go wrong with putting a recovering veteran in the hands of a bunch of sarcastic baristas with access to legally addictive stimulants? The answer is… not much, actually.

Scarthin Books. One of my favourite bookshops I visited yesterday.

Current obsessions: Pompeii. I read Elodie Harper’s the Wolf Den which is set in Pompeii a few years before the eruption, and it sent me down a rabbit hole of reading articles and watching documentaries/vids. I visited Pompeii once when I was 21, it was a short excursion on a bus tour and I really didn’t appreciate it enough.

Fibre arts. Tour de Fleece starts up on the 1st and I have some fibre I’ve been itching to spin.

Isn’t this fun?

I feel like fic writers have stopped using betas over the years. Spellcheck isn’t enough, y’all.

A good beta is hard to find!  You really need either a very thick skin or a special relationship with a person who’s going to give you that kind of feedback.  Still, another set of eyes is the most valuable writing tool you can have.  I have a live-in beta (reader, I married her) and I still look for help when it comes to long and/or involved stories like Sláinte.  @mashnotesofthemythopoeic kept me honest, saved me, made me a whole person, etc. on that story.

Least favorite character: MmmmmMMMmm ok idk I only have the “other horsemen” from the book and I’m so glad they got cut, so from the TV series no one really?

The character I’m most like: Aziraphale? (Books and food you feel me? :’D No but like really I just relate in general.)

Favorite pairing: Aziraphale and Crowley, doesn’t matter in what way . :)

Least favorite pairing: Madame Tracy and Shadwell? Like is it really necessary? :’)

Favorite moment: Probably the last shots of the show with the Ritz and all. Oh and Crowley blowing away the paint stain!

Steve is a big help, but sometimes, Bucky feels like Steve’s after helping him for the benefit of the person he used to be rather than the person he is. Unlike Steve, Tony doesn’t give a shit about him. And yet, it’s with Tony that he feels like he can be or do anything - Like fall in love with the man he had orphaned all those years ago…

Always in the same way: it’s unplanned, sudden, unexpected, Steve is surprised and eager, his dick goes from zero to one hundred in two seconds, Tony’s touch is electric, everything he does drives Steve crazy, but he never lets Steve kiss him, he very rarely looks Steve in the eye, he never talks, never makes a sound when he comes, never mentions it later.

I’ve never understood this idea that something has to be canon in order to be shippable. Shipping usually happens because we *don’t* see that relationship in canon - example, early Star Trek slash fic. It can be canon, but most of the time it is not.

I don’t get it either, and I dunno where it came from.  I don’t remember this being a thing years ago.  There were always ship wars, but the argument against a ship was never that “it’s not canon, it doesn’t exist!”, but the past few years I’ve been seeing that everywhere and it’s both infuriating and baffling.

Shipping has never been about what’s canon or not.  Somehow people have mixed up their definitions or something.  And it’s so biased too as I don’t see anyone attacking Steve/Tony or Tony/Strange shippers. Funny the only ships I ever see attacked are m/f ships.  I don’t get it.  Let people enjoy things that make them happy!

the last five shows I watched/am in the middle of watching:

In no particular order.

1. Cold Case

Good show, good music (that might have made me feel old as dirt), and a most excellent show for playing ‘spot the actor’. I love Criminal Minds so this hit that vibe though the show stops at s7 so doesn’t have the chance to loose a lot of actors and quality. Plus for a show about murder there’s a lot less violence than other shows. Good background show for daytime viewing while working….with occasional breaks when one gets distracted by a favourite song or murderer/victim of the episode.

2. New Amsterdam

For all your medical drama needs. I cried, several times. I’m going to say it’s right there next to House MD as a favourite show about fictional doctors.

3. School Spirits

Went into this with only the vague notion of it being about ghosts. So worth the watch if you are a fan of teen drama. It doesn’t hurt that I love both the BBC’s Ghosts and the American version. Great if you love Dead Like Me.

4. The Power

I loved this show. Full disclosure I have not read the book yet, I do have it on my kindle just waiting to be read…you know how it is. The show is setting up for a second season, no idea if it is happening but i loved it for what it is. I’m a sucker for sci-fi.

5. The Marvellous Mrs Maisel

In the middle of watching season 5. I just love everyone so much. And not just Midge’s wardrobe.

Bonus: I’m doing a rewatch of True Blood (I don’t think I ever watched the later seasons). Somehow I forgot how frelling annoying it is when Bill shouts SOOKAH. But it’s something to have on while working and while spinning some fibre into yarn.

The mister and I started watching the Night Agent on Netflix tonight. It fulfils his need for spy intrigues and shenanigans until we start up the last season of the Blacklist. The first two eps were pretty good, hopefully the rest will be too.

B:  What was the first fandom you read fic in?  Which was the first you wrote fic for?

X-Files and X-Files. Back in the wilds of the 90s, my town got an internet cafe. My X-Files-obsessed friends and I went trolling the internet and found Gossamer, and we spent the rest of 1997 and 1998 reading every smutty fic we could save to a floppy disk. I wrote my first fic in 98 or 99, iirc. It’s probably still on Gossamer, oh god.

D: What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?

Chosen Family, 100%. I wrote it before we started doing IVF to try to get pregnant, and it turned out to be my way of working through my own anxieties and hesitation around having a child. It still makes me cry when I re-read it.

As a side note, I’ve been kind of thinking about revising it now that I’ve actually had a kid to make some stuff more accurate.

J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

What thing that my fandom loves do I just not get?  I guess John Doggett.  I’m glad people love him, I’m glad Scully has a friend, but just like I never forgave the Tenth Doctor for what he did to Harriet Jones, I can’t forgive Doggett for how he tried to manipulate Scully when they met.  Plus, he’s the coppiest cop ever to walk the streets with an NYPD badge.  If John Doggett were real right now, he’d have a Blue Lives Matter slogan on his Facebook profile picture.

Who is my BroTP?  Scully and the Lone Gunmen.  I love it when they work together.

A headcanon I have that someone should write is...  I just want to dump my whole brain into @lepus-arcticus‘ head and see what comes out.  I don’t have the ability to write the kind of sharp-edged, prismatic stories she’s been turning out based on S7.  I adore Incrementum.
