in s3ep2, eleanor tells mrs. hudson she doesnt come from privilege, which mrs. hudson immediately denies. but i think its SOOO telling of eleanor's character! she sees herself as a woman in a world full of men, which she is, but she completely ignores the class and racial divides she obviously benefits from. she claims she has no privilege to mrs. hudson, who comes from no money and works as a chambermaid to woodes rodgers, leaving behind her beloved children to make sure eleanor has clean clothes and to empty her chamberpot. eleanor had power on nassau, power she wielded for her own benefit and to the severe detriment of others. obviously she experienced misogyny, but she was never forced into poverty, never forced into sex work, never forced into service of any kind, because her father was wealthy and she was born into a higher class. her experiences of misogyny and oppression are vastly different than mrs. hudson's. but for her to tell a chambermaid she experienced no privilege? it's laughably untrue. eleanor oversaw and directly profitted from the trade of hundreds if not thousands of slaves on nassau, was raised by "chattel property of the guthrie estate" mr. scott, who is never even given a name in his own tongue (on screen, at least), never showed kindness to anyone but those who put money in her pocket because she was born with that money and that trade empire already in the guthrie name. she had to fight to get it, and fight she did, but the fact that those things were so close to her reach just by virtue of the circumstances of her birth? that's privilege, whether or not she sees it that way

☆Momina and Piercings☆

I like imagining that as Momina got older, she got more piercings. Due to cultural reasons, her ears were pierced when she was a baby. I want her nose to be pierced when she's a late teen. It'll be a stud. I want her to have a star stud, flower stud, crescent moon etc. She changes it depending on her mood. She also eventually gets ear cuffs!

I said it already and drew art for it, but in hs, she and Hayato got matching red star studs. They split a pair. This was after some drama and it was her way of showing him that he was important and they are heavily bonded.

When it came to getting her nose pierced, Hayato insisted he could do it...! He's done it before, so there's no need to waste money! She trusted him, and it led to her getting infected and hospitalized. He insists she almost died. [She also felt like she was close to death...] so every other piercing they got was done by a professional.

I'm sorry if this comes off as rude but why would you make Madeleine be a prostitute in your story when she could just be a seamstress as she actually is?

Ah, you're okay, anon. I had actually thought about that earlier in plotting, but changed my mind on it, and that's ultimately for a few reasons:

I write in closed-POV, which means that whoever I'm writing doesn't really get the chance to interact with other characters outside of their individual experiences. The result of that when creating an AU is if there are characters I want to write into bigger roles, they have to be able to interact with the POV-character on a regular basis.

This fic's going to be alternating closed-POV between Louis and Lestat (so chapter 1 will be Louis, chapter 2 will be Lestat, chapter 3 will be Louis, chapter 4 will be Lestat, etc.) so I need the characters I want to write more to be able to transition between Louis and Lestat's respective storyworlds, which is a bit of a challenge because Louis might run what's effectively an escort service, and Lestat might be a sex worker, but Lestat doesn't work for Louis.

I want Madeleine (and Claudia) to be at these society events and to try and seize power where they can, but ultimately still be on the backfoot due to social standing. If Madeleine's a seamstress, she'll be completely cut out from major parts of the story, and less likely to be transitioning between storyworlds / less useful to the plot in the way that I want her to be.

I want to explore Louis' relationship with Madeleine in a way that reflects the complexity of their power dynamic, and while I could kind of do that with her as a seamstress, I think there are more interesting things to explore for me creatively if she works for him, and that there's a neat thread there to tug in terms of her there as someone beneath him who he doesn't truly know falling in love with someone he cares for as a daughter.

I'm also curious to explore a Lestat-Madeleine dynamic, and having them on a relatively equal footing as high-end sex workers in the Parisian aristocratic social court just seems really fun to me?

Also always here for the unhinged parallels between Louis-Claudia-Lestat-Madeleine in every flavour!!

And look, I call it the courtesan au, but that's just a fancy way of saying it's a sex worker AU, which it is. A few of the characters are going to be sex workers.

i feel like Belle is definitely a fiddler, whereas Wise is more stoic

like Belle will constantly be moving in some small way (shifting from foot to foot, adjusting her positions, rocking etc) whereas Wise will be standing completely still, absolutely lost in his own thoughts.

he's probably also super hard to actually catch the attention of, whereas if you stop Belle from moving, she'll notice pretty quickly. Belle's main method of getting Wise's attention is by annoying him in some physical manner- poking and prodding him, swinging his hands back and forth, maybe even hugging him. i also see Wise letting Belle play with his hands if she's restless and stuck in place, or maybe he even carries something on him for her to fiddle with...

the biggest thing that makes elijah my favorite tvdu vampire is the ways in which he feels like your classic vamp, for better and for worse. and that’s also part of what makes haylijah so fun. it’s the classic centuries old vampire x spunky young woman. the experience gap is huge, but hayley is also this extremely competent hybrid, mother, and leader so it’s not something the audience or the show really dwells on.
