Hey anon, thanks for the asking about Chevalier's sequel - yes, I have read both endings.

As always, I'll post below the cut, and once again...

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR GILBERT'S MAIN ROUTE AND CHEVALIER'S SEQUEL (BOTH ENDINGS)

One little fun this that happens in Chevalier's sequel that you don't get to see in Gillbert's main route is Gilbert pretending to be Roderich (Roderic now?) and Roderich pretending to be Gilbert.

In the Dramatic Ending, once the routes split, "Roderich" enters the scene and is completely mad. Everyone is thinking - oh my god, wtf happened to this guy who is usually in the shadows and very quiet and kinda chill. "Roderich" accuses Chevalier of murdering Gilbert and just...it's a major drama scene. You can tell Gilbert was having a blast as Roderich.

Now in the Romantic Ending, "Gilbert" enters the scene, and again, it's known by a few that something is up. After "Gilbert" is done doing whatever evil he was ordered to do, he reconvenes with Gilbert, who was too sick to actually do what he wanted, and that's why he had Roderich act on his behalf. Roderich is spitting mad, and kinda yells at Gilbert that he hated being him and never wants to be him. For someone who hides in the shadows and does all of his master's bidding, it was kinda nice to see him tell Gilbert "no, it sucked being you."

I predict their relationship is at least better towards the end, though they’re not friends. I bet Gilbert will be penpals with Emma.

A/N: Day 1 of my Chevalier Sequel Route Release event I know I'm two days late Pairing: Chevalier Michel x Reader Prompt: Love Word count: 1058 Tags: fluff

While working in the kitchen, you were putting the finishing touches on a tray of beignets for tonight’s garden party. It was a special event, the first time the guest of honor was a renowned author who just happened to be a childhood friend of Prince Keith. Needless to say, everything needed to be perfect. 

You knew he was there before he wrapped his arms around your waist and whispered into your ear. It was the little things that, after being together this long, became second nature. His familiar footsteps. The light rustle of his cloaks that billowed behind him. The scent of roses that followed him everywhere. 

“Someone’s been hard at work.” His hot breath tickled your skin before he pressed a gentle kiss on the pulse point of your neck. 

Making a soft sound, your body relaxed, melting into his as his kisses grew hungry, his teeth grazing your sensitive skin as his mouth traveled down your neck. His arm tightened around your waist, pulling you closer to him. Closing your eyes, you tilted your head, further exposing your neck to him, inviting him to nibble on your sweet skin.

Trembling, you gripped the edge of the counter as your knees weakened. The tip of his tongue felt so good laving your skin, you didn’t want any of this to end. Your lips parted, exhaling a soft moan, the sound of which brought you back to reality.

“Cheva–” you whimpered, your hand lifting, fingers winding in his pale locks, holding his face close to your neck, betraying the words caught in your throat. “We shouldn’t…not in the kitchen…”

“I'm sorry,” he replied, his face still buried in the crook of your neck, his lips barely brushing your skin as he spoke, “but I’m hungry.”

“If you’re so hungry….” Twisting  in his arms, you lifted your hand to his lips, offering the warm beignet held delicately between your fingers. “Try this.”

He took a small bite, graceful as ever, his lips curling into a satisfied smirk. “Keep improving at this rate, and you’ll soon be better than the palace chefs.”

Your face flushed with warmth; Chevalier was not one to offer compliments, so this was high praise from your king. When he finished the beignet, you began to pull your hand away, only to find your wrist tight in his grasp,  his fingers firmly pressing against your skin in a way that was not unpleasant. 

Your eyes widened as he brought your hand towards his lips, his tongue darting out licking the tip of your pointer finger. Your gaze fixed on his; pale blue flames of passion flickered back at you as he slid your finger slowly into his mouth.

“What’s gotten into you?” you asked. Not that you minded the attention, rather quite the opposite. But this affection – here, in the kitchen, where anyone could walk in at any moment – was very unlike him. A little thrill ran up your spine, leaving your body tingling as you wondered what would happen if someone did walk into the kitchen right now.

With your finger sill in his mouth, his lips curled into a smirk, his teeth gently nipping your skin as he withdrew your hand.

“You had some sugar on your finger,” he said nonchalantly, as if he had not just had your finger inside his mouth. He let go of your hand, allowing it to drop unceremoniously to your side.

An awkward silence fell as you gathered your thoughts, unsure if any action would encourage more biting.

“Are you ready to go?” you asked as you noticed his gaze lingering on the tray of sweets behind you. “We don’t want to be late,” you added in a whisper. 

“No, of course not,” he said, his smile soft. “I’ve heard how busy you have been planning this soiree.”

“Oh?” Warmth mixed with surprise filled your heart. 

He nodded and cupped your cheek in his hand. “I know the lengths you have gone to in order to prepare for this event. The lunches you shared with Maeve to discuss the details. Working with Yves to plan the perfect menu. Reading the copy of Sonia’s book that Maeve gave you in the few spare moments of your day.”

Your heart swelled with pride. He didn’t have to say it; his eyes did:  I see everything you do and appreciate it. The knowledge that he found you worthy – worthy of his love, worthy to stand by his side as the future queen of Rhodolite – was honestly a bit overwhelming in a good way.

“Run away with me,” he said, his eyes warm pools of pale blue water. 

This was hardly a thing Chevalier would normally say to you. But recently, he had developed this habit of quoting lines from books you both had read or were reading. Maybe it was his teasing way of testing your memory. Or maybe it was his way of expressing himself in ways he otherwise couldn’t. Either way, you found this new habit of his to be quite endearing.

The line he was now quoting was from a scene in the middle of the book, and you were grateful you remembered it so well. The protagonists – a young couple in love – dreamt about running away instead of dealing with the expectations imposed upon them by their stations in life.

It was hard not to relate to the young couple given everything you and Chevalier had faced together, burdened by the sheer fact that he was born into royalty and you were not. It was not an easy path to walk along, but it was the one that you chose. Everything you had gone through and will go through, it was all worth it to be able to stand by his side. 

You smiled wistfully, a part of you wishing that you could simply run away with your love. Even for a day. Wishing for a moment you were the characters in the book and had the luxury of even dreaming of running away.

“And where are you taking me?” you replied in a soft whisper.

“To the stars.” He held your gaze as he spoke; the way he looked at you made you wonder if maybe, for just this moment too, that he shared your wish of escaping together.

Anon....I am so sorry for taking forever to get to these asks. I read both ends of his sequel in 36 hours and then couldn't process a thing afterwards 😭

I can scream for a while about this, but I'll try to keep this under a novel's length lol

MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT GILBERT'S MAIN ROUTE / CHEVALIER'S SEQUEL ROUTE BELOW:

Alright, you asked about Gil and Cheva things, so here it goes.

There is so much Gilbert in his sequel. So much that it starts to feel like Comte's route when it becomes the Vlad show (if you read IkeVamp). And I guess, like Comte and Vlad, they can't shake that friendship that was there since their youth.

In Cheva's sequel, Cheva and Emma go to Obsidian (along with Leon, Yves, Cyran and Lucien - wow that's a mouthful) because of...well, things that happen in the prequel that are barely even important here. Gilbert spends a bit of time with Emma - for obvious reasons, if you read his route, and Chevalier spends some time digging around Obsidian Castle.

One thing that will be nice for players who don't read Cheva's events is they will see his emotional development that was lacking in his route. You will see a Chevalier who is free to be affectionate with Emma in front of his brothers (to which Yves and Leon were thoroughly disturbed). His love for Emma is on full display....and guess who is witnessing all of this.

When the routes split, they deal with the a similar conflict, but one puts the problem solving on Emma, the other puts it on Chevalier. And it's interesting to see how they both handle it - which is they handle it the same way. Chevalier puts all his trust and faith in Emma - and this love is something Gilbert ends up being jealous of.

My favorite saddest part of Chevalier's sequel comes towards the end of his Dramatic Route. Chevalier is put in a terrible, awful, horrible situation, one where we truly see how mad Gilbert is - did you think you saw his madness already? Guess what, you didn't. Anyway, after all the horrible things Gilbert has done to Chevalier (which Leon saved him from!) Chevalier asks Emma and Leon to leave the room.

Gilbert and Chevalier have a heart to heart chat, best that these two can. Gilbert admits that he has known about Emma for some time now (cue shocked Chevalier). He tells him he is in love with her and he had wanted to save her from being tainted by royalty. They are only engaged, and there was still hope for her. He then adds that despite all of Gilbert's obstacles, their love for one another won out and neither betrayed the other. Can these two hug it out now?

Chevalier also had figured out Gilbert is sick and dying. He tells him to get himself better and that Obsidian needs him. Obsidian is nothing without him. This is after Gilbert tried to kill him and even shot him with his gun. That just shows the deep (and weird and twisted) bond these two share. And I think it also shows immense emotional growth for Chevalier.

What are your thoughts on Chevalier and Gilbert’s interactions when they were younger?

Short answer - I love it.

Long answer - Some might think the above is an odd thing to say (esp those who have read his sequel). But I don't think these two can exist without the other. Also, to know that Chevalier had/has a friend - his brothers are his brothers (either scared or don't know/care about him) and Emma is his lover - but Gilbert was a friend, a real friend. Someone who wasn't scared of him. Someone who challenged him. Someone who loved all humans (platonically) - including the beast who didn't understand love.

SPOILERS BELOW FROM GILBERT'S MAIN ROUTE, CHEVALIER SEQUEL/EPISODE 0, AND FUTURE CHEVALIER STORY EVENTS

After Gilbert's Main Route, there is a bit more flashbacks sprinkled throughout routes and events. And there's so many times when adult Chevalier looks back, and is reminded of something (usually about love) that young Gilbert said. And he always looks back fondly. He might call Gilbert the scourge of the world in his head, but he does so with a smile.

Clavis tells Emma that when it comes to those two geniuses, they're different, they're not like us. And he's right. When tehy meet as children, they finally found someone on their level. No one else "gets" them but the other.

When I read Cheva's sequel, I had not yet fully read all of Gil's main. There's a scene where Leon and Cheva investigate Obsidian castle and find a room. Chevalier pulls a book off a shelf - an ancient Acroite law text - and declares that this is Gilbert's room. Leon's overlooking his shoulder, surprised either of them can read this ancient language. Chevalier dismisses him, as usual. My impression then was that Chevalier knew it was Gilbert's room because it had some random ancient book that no one else could read but the two of them.

But in Gil's Both Ends epilogue, they show a scene of two boys meeting and fighting over a book - an ancient Acroite law text. They're both surprised anyone else wants this book, and end up sharing it and reading it together later.

Gilbert kept the book. And Chevalier remembered it. 🥹🥹🥹

Spoiler-ish discussion under the cut - Gil main route, Cheva sequel route

Why I find your idea so intriguing is that it focuses more on these two's friendship/rivalry, and the romance is secondary. And while romance is always the theme in Ikemen series is romance, a very strong secondary theme in both these routes is their friendship - what happened in their past and where they are now.

In fact, Chevalier's sequel dwells far more on his relationship with Gilbert than his main sequel did with Clavis, his closest brother.

They are friends/rivals/enemies with the same common goals. No one understands them until they meet each other. No one else gets them.

Much like how Belle finds her way to her suitor in every AU, these two friends keep finding each other and don't ever end up killing the other.

You know the isekai stories where the character reads a book at some point, doesn’t pay very close attention to it, but then is thrown into that book (and often are “born” into one of the book’s characters, so they start as a baby)?

Isekai AU where that happened to Chev.

He read a book outside of his usual genres on a whim, and he was launched into it soon after. He was an adult when it happened, and a rather competent one at that. Now he had been born into a position of royalty and was fairly convinced he could rule the entire continent with his knowledge. He just needed to win the story’s war against Obsidian, where the story’s timeline had ended.

So he knows *almost* everything that happens, especially key points that would otherwise be impossible to guess. He knows the tragic end of his mother, so he didn’t try to stop it. He knew about Bloodstained Rose Day, so he accepted his decision as necessary. The closer he stuck to the original plot, the longer he’d know what was going to happen.

The problem with the book for Chev was that he thought it was stupid. Because it was a romance novel. He hadn’t really considered looking for it until he came across a ~random~ romance novel in his stack of books, and soon he’s been reading every romance he can get his hands on, on the off chance he finds the book again. He’s hoping there’s a “rare book” somewhere that would become a prophetic treasure for him…

He knows about Emma the future Belle, but he’s convinced that Belle is a pointless position because he plans on firmly changing the plot once she comes into play. By the end of the book, he will no longer need to bother with romance— he’ll have secured an entire continent instead. Surely Emma can pick one of his brothers, so it’s fiiine…

So he’s pretty close to the original timeline, but he’s still a little thrown off when a woman in town slaps a drunkard in front of him. He wasn’t expecting to meet Belle on a random day and in such a weird way (did the original Chev point a sword at Emma’s throat? New Chev can’t seem to remember that part happening…)

Then he had to be on his game as far as pushing her away, toward any of his brothers (he was positive that whoever she chose, they would love and cherish her). He’s spent all of his new life preparing, so it should be easy enough to push one last person away. No time for kindness or love if he wants to rule this fictional world.

And, well, we’ve seen how well that went for him in his route 😅

And his route could end with loving Emma, how it was originally written, even having known everything beforehand. Dude’s a certified genius now, but he couldn’t destroy fate…

Sure would be a shame if another “genius” was isekai’d into an enemy prince’s body that would also want to take over the continent and meet Belle (essentially the perfect, ideal woman with the purest heart). A prince who ended up in a body/family/life that tore his own pure heart to shreds.

He’d read the romance novel because he liked happy stories, and he’d liked how lovely and strong Emma was. So ending up in the last possible person to meet her was a huge blow for him.

Gil couldn’t find the novel in the fictional world, either, though he didn’t try quite as hard as Chev (who he’d met as a child, not realizing that the gallant prince in the story was now the grumpy kid reading in a corner).

Gil gave up trying to find it after realizing survival had to be his ultimate priority. Eventually in his adult years he was able to think about her again. He’d looked back on the stories the bookseller told him, which were curiously similar to the Belle he had read about. Maybe if he couldn’t find the romance novel… he could write it?

And finding out that Emma had finally become Belle at the same time he’d learned he’d had nothing left to lose? Time to visit Rhodolite.

Two isekai’d princes, one the pre-destined lover of Belle, the other an enemy who was born into the life of a doomed side character who had to make himself a main character to survive.

Neither knows the other came from their original universe, so they are both pretty perplexed at how competent the other is. They’ve been side-eyeing the other their whole lives: Gil eventually realizes he’s talking to Chevalier, the ML, but that he’s a lot grumpier than he remembers. Chev doesn’t understand where this prominent enemy character came from or why he wasn’t mentioned in the books 🤔

you’ve finished chev’s route already?! im still in the middleish and im loving it so far. bringing yves and leon along was definitely the right choice out of the cast. i lovee chev a lot but seeing gilbert after reading his route makes me sad😭😭

I loved Cheva's sequel (both ends are great in their own ways) and am glad you're enjoying it!

Leon and Yves as his two companions was the best choice. Yves was often relegated to watching you with Cyran. But Leon, wow. This might have been the Gilbert show at times (like how Comte's route turned into the Vlad show), but Leon SHINES throughout. I beg all Leon fans to read this route when it comes to ENG next year - if for nothing else, the rarely seen interactions between Leon and Chevalier and watching them operate on the sane time.

Oh, Gilbert....that's all I will say about him 😢
