Chester: The Emotional Support Tardigrade [Master Doc]

Discovery adopts a baby Tardigrade that quickly becomes the "class pet"/mascot.

They name it Chester and he’s about as big as a house cat and friendly like a dog and his favourite place in the world is either on Stamets’s shoulder or tucked up in Tilly’s arm as she works. Sometimes he’s spotted perched on Reno’s head but that’s only when she thinks no one else is around (she has an Image to uphold and being sweet on this tiny universe travelling gremlin won’t cut it)

Stamets somehow changes the spores so they're little cat treat size and the main gang (Paul, Hugh, Michael, Tilly and Reno) all carry some

Owosekun knits him a blue and silver jumper so he has a uniform. (Detmer designs it)

He gets his own combadge and they train him to responds to certain commands

Commands Chester:

He knows “Bridge” but instead of engineering it’s “Stamets” and instead of Michael and Tilly’s room it’s “Aunties” and he goes there (or just teleports straight to Michael or Tilly)

[Paul (from like a hidden alcove on the bridge or something close): "Chester, Chester, AUNTIE" *pop* Michael: "OH SAREK!" Paul: *just fucking dying of giggles*]

The joke's on Paul though when Michael also trains Chester to respond to “dad” but he apparently gets confused and teleports onto Hugh instead and because Hugh thinks it was Paul’s doing, Paul hides out in Engineering for like 3 days

Hugh eventually teases Paul out by telling Chester to go to him with a little note attached saying "I've retrained him so I'm Papa and you're Dad because it sounds better" and Paul just fucking cries (Which confuses Chester because he knows tears are sad but Dad doesn't feel sad)

Black Alert Chester:

Every Black Alert he pops to Engineering because he knows he can't be with his dad but his also his big sis is always worried so he just like plops on her head. First time it happened they nearly got lost because Paul was laughing so hard

Tilly hit the floor laughing and Paul was so far gone in his laugh that like, you know when someone giggles Real Hard and they’re just reduced to *squeaks*? He was reduced to that

Meanwhile Reno walks in and sees Tilly on the floor sobbing with a tardigrade on her head, and Paul just *wheezing* in the chamber

Hugh is there (because it's now his station during Black alert) and he's dying too but trying very very hard to pay attention because he's worried about Paul

No one replies to post-jump Bridge hails because they can't so Michael is sent and she just walks in to: Tilly on the floor with her face covered by a tardigrade, laughing Paul still in the chamber but disconnected fucking crying Hugh sat with his back against the glass struggling to breathe, and Reno recording it all because she hates (loves) Paul

She tells the bridge “I have no idea what happened but everyone here is either crying, laughing, or crying laughing and Chester May or may not be smothering Ensign Tilly” Saru just fucking sighs like he's given up on the universe (it's because he has)

Emotional Support Chester: (You can’t be sad while a tardigrade is making little beeps and peeps at you)

You know when cats do that thing when they know someone is sad and keeps annoying them? He really really loves Michael

Michael being all sad and then she hears a weird noise and then Plunk! A cat sized tardigrade plops down on the bed next to her and just starts making lil noises until she picks him up and they sit together

Tilly walks in and is just like "awh :(" and sits next to her and hugs her

Alternatively: Same scenario but Plunk! And a fully grown sized tardigrade pops down next to her and just Lays On Top Of Her and Refuses to get up until she’s calmed down

So Tilly walks into that one, says “oh no”, tries to wrestle him away, and then gets sat on herself

They end up projecting a movie on the ceiling because “goddammit, we’ll be here for a bit, might as well watch a movie”

They both miss the start of their shifts so both Stamets and Saru go to their quarters and are all angry and pissy then they open the door and are just like "ah. Emotional Support Tardigrade is on duty. You are relieved from the shift" and they walk out

(Hugh checks on them later with chocolate and a dermal regenerator because emotions and also tardigrades are fucking heavy they've probably got bruises)

They comm them like “why aren’t you at your post” and they manage to wheeze “Chester is kinda crushing our ribs” and they’re like “oh worm, we’ll try and call him away so you can breathe” (They fail)

There's now a certain alert/notification you can send your CO and CMO in case of Chester Hugs (One of the Medical Officers becomes "SCM" which stands for "Specialist Chester Medic")

Havoc Chester

When dogs sometimes do that thing where they like to wander around their owners house at night and check in on everyone when they sleep? Chester uses his travelling abilities to wander around the ship and teleport into people's rooms. He’s almost always found sleeping on top of one of his favourite people on the ship and Refuses to get up unless they give him cuddles and carry him around

One day he sits on top of Tilly but cries whenever she puts him down or tries to give him to someone else, so for that day there's an extra person in the command training program (Saru tries very very hard to be stern but cannot deal with the cries either so just let’s it be and writes in his report that Tilly has “outstanding compassion and an incredible ability to continue working on her jobs even when tasked with protecting another member of the crew”)

Time Travelling Chester

Tardigrades teleport around time just like they do space and one day, when they need assistance and a distraction and just fucking Hope, the Enterprise bridge finds itself nearly jumping out of their collective skins when a sudden loud POP and PLUNK happens and this random creature they’ve never seen before hits the bridge floor, tosses a capsule on the ground with a bunch of notes and PADDs, and then POPS back out of existence on its way to distract their enemies

(It’s a command that takes more preparation bc it’s a longer flight for him, but he knows the command “Captain” as well as anyone, and even better than they could have hoped, considering they had to teach him who he was looking for through Holos and pictures)

Then when Pike grabs the capsule and is like “holy shit, I think I know what that was” he opens it and there’s a note on top of all the PADDs and notes and pictures and other shit from long lost friends, that just reads “We Got You”

Spock is just like "Jesus fucking Sarek Michael can you stop just adopting things really it's getting ridiculous" but secretly looks out for him and tells him to look after Michael (Spock is one to talk considering Sarek is just Collecting Children)

Also the Discovery crew can never tell when the Enterprise gets their updates because they’re all off the books (their entire ship is too, until the 24th century) so they just sort of Send Shit whenever? And sometimes they get capsules back with pictures and notes and recordings on old data PADDs that the ��fleet wouldn’t miss/could easily be explained away as “broken on mission”

Okay so we may have gotten slightly obsessed but it was the best time ever and I want it to happen again (disco-headcannons you're amazing and I love you and your willingness to listen to my headcannon rambling)

Anyways on to the good stuff. In today’s episode of “I haven’t written a story post in 8 years but lets learn more about my characters” welcome to the world of the one and only Johnny Zest. (né Jonathan Landgraab in my universe)

Questions and answers under the cut.

1. How old is your sim? the equivalent of 21/22 i guess? (he’s not a fresh baby YA, he’s a couple days in.)

2. When is your sim’s birthday? again idk, probably in the spring.

3. What is your sim’s zodiac sign? maybe a pisces?? ?

4. What is your sim’s ethnicity? canonically simerican (but idk the landgraabs are basically 50 shades of white)

5. Does your sim have any nicknames? Johnny. (Also Gavin calls him J, b/c why not haha)

6. Do they have a job? He’s a full-time unsuccessful stand up comedian. AKA he’s a barista.

7. Where does your sim live? Oasis Springs.

8. Who does your sim live with? His best friend and most loyal fan, Chester.

9. What environment did your sims grow up in? (strict, loving, cold etc.) Definitely strict, but his parents both expressed their love for him in their own ways. Plus his little brother thought he was simply the bee’s knees. So life wasn’t terrible. It was only when Johnny decided to jump ship and become a comedian that his relationship with his family suffered.

10. What are your sim’s favorite foods? Pizza (probably hawaiian)

11. What is your sim’s favorite drink? anything with tequila.

12. If they have one what is your sim’s favorite color? blue

13. Does your sim believe in any clichés? (i.e. love at first sight) “the grass is always greener on the other side”

14. What is your sim’s sexuality? he’s into dudes.

15. What is your sim’s gender identity? male. uses he/him.

17. Is your sim introverted or extroverted? he’s an extroverted introvert.

18. What is your sims favorite woohoo position? none atm. he’s had one woohoo encounter and it wasn’t anything special. maybe one day.

19. Is your sim a pet person? If so what is their favorite animal? not really but Chester was special and he can’t live without him now.

20. Does your sim have a best friend? As I said: his cat Chester. He’s also pretty close to Cassandra & Zoe but wouldn’t consider either of them a best friend. Growing up his best friend was Sergio. They don’t talk anymore. *tear*

21. What is/was your sim’s favorite school subject? Math

22. Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? high. but if you asked Nancy, not high enough

23. Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? If so, what would be or what was their major? (THIS IS A LAWLESS LAND AND UNI DOESN’T EXIST iN MY WORLD ATM.) He would have majored in econ and secretly changed his major to something like zoology or psychology w/o telling anyone.

24. What are your sims political beliefs? (if they have them) left leaning (not that i have “real politics” in my game)

25. What is one thing your sims wants to do before they die? Make up with his family. (but you didn’t hear it from me)

26. Does your sim have a favorite tv show (cable) and/or movie? he’s a big “Game of Groans” fan. The books were better though.

27. Is your sim a Netflix viewer? If so what are their top 3 shows. yeah but he’ll watch whatever Simflix recommends him. he’s not picky.

28. Does your sim like books? If so what’s their favorite one? Not particularly, he does enjoy graphic novels.

29. Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favorite one and do they play on pc or console? Not particularly; he’s decent at “Incredible Sports”

30. What is your sim’s personal style? I honestly have no idea what to call his style. lol

31. Does your sim have a lucky charm? Does Chester count?

32. Is your sim religious? nope.

33. What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their favorite artist? Johnny listens to anything and everything. From polka to death metal.

34. Is your sim a festive person? If so what’s their favorite holiday? At this point in life, “Rebate Day” is his fave holiday.

35. What is your sim’s favorite type of weather? He likes the sun.

36. Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? To start them. but he’s also the guy who called Nancy a bitch to her face and hasn’t spoken to her since, so a little column A a little column B.

37. Does your sim have a dream job? Full-time successful comedian.

38. Does your sim have any siblings? yep. good ol’ lil bro Malcolm.

39. Does your sim get along with their family? not currently. He wishes he had a better relationship with Malcolm, and father Geoffrey sends him texts and forwards him family emails. But Johnny’s stubborn and never replies... 😭

41. What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? atm anyone who likes him and will laugh at his jokes will do.

42. What is a secret about your sim? he occasionally goes bird watching on weekends

Best Rap 2018

This year has been probably the most packed year of all time in terms of the sheer volume of decent rap releases. Due to the huge quantity of releases it’s easy to miss out on a lot of great music and get lost in the mix. With that in mind, I wanted to create a long list that can be bookmarked and returned to for those who slept.

I could have easily created a top 300 and still felt bad about leaving a few good albums out. That said, I've managed to cut it down to a slightly more definitive (but hardly concise) top 150 so this doesn't read like too much of a phone book.

As in previous years, ‘Rap’ is on the banner, but the list is made up of hip-hop, UK road rap, grime, and anything that can adequately be categorised as a rap sub-genre in my mind.

Finally, as usual, don’t get too hung up on the order. The top albums are at the top and the still-quality-but-not-quite-elite albums are towards the lower end, but there’s no use getting too hung up about what appears as, say, my 57th and 61st favourite albums. This is designed and published primarily for myself to look back on in years to come and reflect on the year, but also for anyone who reads it to see it as recommended listening that should keep you very busy.

jeremy heere - jeremy was born in kanto and raised there for most of his life - eventually moved to alola with his dad and lives on melemele island! his mother is from sinnoh (and lives there now) and his father from kanto.. he’s visited kanto a couple times with his family before his mom left, and plans to just travel the different regions one day! jeremy is the kind of person to have a full team on him at almost all times imo!

his team consists of:

a shiny toucannon! he came across her one day and managed to catch her (as a pikipek) and still cries over the fact he found her tbh. her name is leia and she will fucking fight anyone who messes with jeremy (or any of jeremy’s friends, tbh.) ((michael cries over her. everyone cries over her. the shiny bi birb......... bless..... RICH CRIES OVER HER A LOT BC!!! IT’S THE BIRB!!!!!))

natasha is jeremy’s vulpix! she is a cutie that was given to him by his dad, and she’s not an alolan vulpix (which, jeremy is completely fine with tbh, because natasha is pretty fucking rad). jeremy’s actually grown up with her so they’re pretty close.

ganon is a gengar that will fuck u up. he’s kind of an ass sometimes, but he’s apart of the team nonetheless! jer caught him after he was dared to go into the thrifty megamart (while acerola was off taking care of official business, which is... a no-no, jeremy you fuck).

galileo is an eevee jeremy has yet to evolve - mainly out of uncertainty. he’ll probably end up as a jolteon tho! jeremy caught him since the boy loves eevees. michael was probably like “so what are you gonna evolve him into” and jeremy was like “.... fuck, idk.” he’s a pretty rad eevee, tbh - but he’s a lil smaller than most. he doesn’t let that get him down - fuck you if you judge him on his size, tbh.

kalel is a tirtouga that jeremy revived! he’s a pretty rad dude who acts a lot older than he is. pretty gnarly. michael likes him. they share weird outdated lingo lmao

peggy is an ariados that’s super sweet. gentle spider baby. she’s pretty optimistic tbh!!! jeremy loves his spider baby. he raised her from when she was just a baby spinarak. his daughter. i love her.

michael mell - born and raised in alola on ula’ula island! he’s pretty content to staying in alola, but would 100% travel other regions with jeremy because honestly - that sounds super fucking cool. keeps 3-4 pokemon with him at all times. super guilty about catching pokemon and sending them back to his parents - but they don’t mind! his dad loves pokemon a lot and both of his parents research them!!!

his team consists of:

daxter the decidueye! michael’s parents managed to get daxter (as a rowlet) for him for his birthday and the two are super close! sometimes closer than michael and jer are lmao. he’s a pretty damn cool bird. fuck u jeremy and ur SHINY bird.

christine canigula - also born and raised in alola on akala island, but lived in hoenn for a couple of years before moving back! she loves her team and would fight u. a complete angel tbh, names all her pokemon after theatre characters (same tbh). her father travels a ton and she meets up w him sometimes while she travels!!! it’s fun times

cassie the oricorio! too good for the chorus. christine loves her a ton!!! she is a good bird. very dance and gets along with christine rly rly well!!!! (most often seen as in pom-pom style)

eliza the lilligant! she is good and an angel. i love her. extrmely sweet tbh. the most liked member of the team tbh. (these descriptions get shorter with every character whoops)

macbeth is christine’s machoke! he’s ready 2 tussle if u hurt christine + he’s super gr8 at moving set pieces if necessary! once picked up jeremy and scared the fuck out of him.

puck is a togedemaru! he’s super cute and ready to destroy. probably the strongest of the team tbh. probably fucked up Many ppl. he’s super sweet though??? just don’t anger him lmao. he chills in the light/sound booth during shows. he doesn’t even do anything he just chills there.

rich goranski - from sinnoh my sweet dudes! most of his pokemon are actually like.... sinnoh-native. lives in alola with his older brother now but still visits sinnoh every year. tends to travel rather than just staying in one place. has broken his pokedex multiple times on accident. his bro is pretty laid-back tbh but probably works for aether since they pay is... good and he was support rich that way. has burn scars from a bad run-in w a pokemon :/

buzz is his electabuzz! a good baby, buzz is a big ole softy who cares deeply for his trainer. a tough dude, ready to tussle if someone tries to hurt rich though.

ryder is his mudsdale! a tough, cold dude who doesn’t rly give two shits abt 99% of things. prefers naps tbh. a bit stubborn sometimes too tbh. actually rly loves brooke??? no one knows why.

onyx is his salazzle. a sharp-witted girl who would fuckin stab a bitch for rich. very protective of him. she loves her short trainer. often picks fights with daxter whenever rich and michael are together, but more in the older sister way tbh.

jake dillinger - born and raised in kalos, jake made it his personal goal to travel to every region and beat the leagues. his parents have been sort of absent from his life so he’s extremely independent and tends to mother his team, honestly. he regularly talks with sycamore (and thanks him for giving him the opportunity to travel)! strong boy. loves his team. only carries three pokemon bc he’s always ready to add to his team.

chester the chesnaught! wasn’t named by jake. a timid boy who’s a little bigger than most chesnaughts, ending up around 5′8″ rather than the usual 5′3″. forgets he’s a big boy. has always referred to jake as his papa ever since he was a chespin and he hasn’t stopped lmao. what a cutie

stephanie is his mienshao! a tall babe who is ready 2 tussle. loves jake? he is a good trainer. often spars with chester to keep her skills sharp. i love her?

beans is his reuniclus and he is a smart cookie. awkwardly smaller than most pokemon tbh? he doesn’t care. he’s happy and loves himself and his teammates. often naps but is a strong baby.

chloe valentine - born in kalos, raised in alola on akala island. met brooke there too!!! didn’t grow up expecting to be that interested in battling but something seemed to spark and she’s honestly one of the strongest trainers in alola. honestly, i could see her as an island kahuna??? ready to fight anyone threatening her island.

buster the machamp. protective of everyone tbh, not just chloe. a jolly boy who loves to eat, and often jokes around with the rest of the team and with chloe’s friend’s teams.

marshmallow the bewear. honestly a terrifying bear who knows her strength. very patient with everyone, except buster when he tells shitty jokes. often the scariest part of chloe’s team.

kate the lucario. the real threat. chloe fucking trains with her in order to keep in shape. often responsible for knocking teams out, kate is the powerhouse of the team. marshmallow may strike fear, but kate’s the one trainers should lookout for.

brooke lohst - born and raised on akala island with christine! brooke has always had an interest in taking care of pokemon and aspires to be a nurse someday tbh!!! not interested in battling tbh, but is super supportive of her friends! only keeps two pokemon with her at all times tbh. they’re good friends.

winona the chansey is brooke’s main partner tbh. she plans on staying by brooke’s side when she goes into school and helping her when she eventually becomes a nurse! good friends with rich’s mudsdale tbh. winona is very bold and very strong and i love her

terra the espeon. given to by jeremy! terra is a sweetheart who also helps brooke as much as she can, and can help calm trainers if needed. whoops i love her?
